I posted this as a reply, but I want everyone to see this and contribute to the discussion. Refs, if you feel this is un-necessary, feel free to delete. Who better to run the Organization for the Browns than a guy who has won championships at the college level AND the NFL level. This guy, in my opinion, would be more qualified than Parcells and Holmgren! He obviously knows how to recruit/scout, because he's won a National Title. He obviously knows the pro game because he's won 2 Super Bowls. Why is this guy not even being mentioned?

and he has never been in charge of acquiring personnel before where Holmgren and Parcells have.
he's never been a NFL FO guy....in Dallas, Jerry and Stephen did the FO and GM stuff.

I'm not opposed to Jimmy Johnson consideration.... but he'd probably waste our first round pick on a stupid QB that loses all 11 starts his rookie year, throws 18 Ints to just 9 TDs and posts a QB rating of 55... then we will have wasted yet another QB pick on some bum like Troy Aikman.

Jimmy had final personnel say in Dallas. Why do you think they went to trash when he left and Jerry Jones started calling the shots. Much like when Pacells was in Dallas, Jones was GM in name only when Jimmy was there.........he has the same experience that Parcells or Holmgren had.......and had more success at it by the way. He also had final say in Miami.
The thing with Jimmy though is he likes retirement and fishing in Florida..........he's not coming back.

Contrary to what most think, it was definitely Jimmy's big move to perform the Herschel Walker trade, too.

I think he's not brought up because he's said numerous times, he's done coaching.. Maybe that's the reason..

Yeah, but I never mentioned him as a coach.

Jimmy Johnson....nope...just don't care for him much.
I doubt Jimmy Johnson has given much thought to the Browns past tradition and history but he does like $$$$$$$$.
Jimmy's first move might be to hire Butch Davis as coach and GM....wooooo...bad feeling.
Nix the JJ ideas, OK?

He was average, and some of that was his fault..........and some due to the fact he was saddled with Danny Marino who was old as dirt and well past his prime at that point. JJ couldn't get rid of him, because he was a legend, and he just wasn't good enough to win with.
They made the playoffs (as bottom feeder playoff teams), but overall it wasn't the huge success that he had in Dallas by any means. He did draft the like of Zack Thomas, Jason Taylor, Sam Madison, and others.
I have always mantained that JJ has a great eye for Defensive talent (much like Parcells, but imo better). The problem he had in Miami is he was stuck with Old man river at QB, and despite drafting a lot of RBs he never could find a stud to hide Marino (although he did improve the running game greatly).

I hate to say it but I think Butch Davis the coach would be alright....as long as he had someone to tell him yes or no!
I in no way am saying I want Butch Davis back here, I am just saying I think he is a good coach......

He was the best HC we've had since rebirth. Butch's problem wasn't with coaching, but rather talent evaluation. If Butch would have had a strong credible GM we wouldn't be struggling right now.
With all this said..........no way Jimmy Johnson gives up catching Sting Rays, and no way in hell is Butch Davis coming back to Cleveland for a lot of reasons.............1st of which we couldn't pay him enough to come back here, and 2nd we wouldn't pay him anything...lol

I agree, Butch could be a fine NFL coach.. I just think he got in over his head with personnel decisions.

Brownsbigshot.
Three words describe Jimmy Johnson's success in the NFL. "Herschel Walker Trade". He fleeced the Vikings for a boat load of picks and built his team through those draft picks he acquired in that trade. One move gave him his success.
And the next head coach is ......

too much wind at CBS...the hair just wouldn't look good here.
Good question as far as he never is mentioned with Cowher or Shanahan or now Holmgren for available top spots with teams. He did pretty much build that MULTI Championship team in Dallas that won after he left also but just like 1964 for us...still Paul Browns team that he built.
Why not somewhere else? Probably he's comfortable where he is at...MEDIA is a sluff job for these EX 24/7 guys - I guess it called retirement and they get paid for it to boot
