At the mid point of the season, they should take the worst teams in the league and allow them ot opt out of the Super Bowl. They could then play each other fro the rest of the season. I wouldn't mind playing Detroit some more. At least we looked like we could paly football!

Howdy TENN.....hadn't heard from ya in quite a while.

The only problem i see is that then season ticket holders would prolly want their money back....

Excellent thread for Pure Football. This really needs some serious discussion.

Actually, this is pretty interesting. It is thinking outside the box and inventive.

Taking this concept and running with it, the first ten weeks could be spent playing division games (6games total) and playing 1 complete division (e.g. NFC North)

Then there could be a cut system and a re-pairing of games based on records. This would make games more interesting and competitive for losing teams and also give fans more marquee match-ups for winning teams.

Never will happen but fun to think about.

Sure why not, take the 6 bottoms team from each league and have minor league football. .. sorta a race for the lombardi trophy...

Come on MAN!

Seriously, while this is tongue in cheek, I've never really like the schedule. There is little wiggle room in scheduling. I understand playing our own conference, but the rest make for very rigid scheduling. Surely there is a better way.

I just don't know how.

That rigid schedule was put in place precisely to do away with any chance of favoritism because in the past, schedules became very unbalanced.. now it's simple, it's structured, there is no guess work or room to criticize everybody in the division plays almost exactly the same schedule... I love it.

As for your plan... what happens to the teams that played the difficult part of their schedule first, with Detroit, Cleveland, KC on the backend of their schedule, they sit at 6-4 now but those easy games will now have to be replaced with harder games, where as the teams that played those easy games first got the benefit of them?

Forget that - how do teams sell tickets? If you change the schedule mid season, not every team that was originally going to have a home game on "x" sunday will be able to.

I sure wouldn't buy a ticket for a home game "to be played on "x", or "x plus one week", or "x plus 2 weeks".

If we continue with this line of rationale, the NFL will be separated into major and minor leagues. No thanks.

This is why Oklahoma does not want to play Boise State, if and when they lose, it is really a hard day.

I agree with the schedule structure, but that doesn't account for the difference in talent and coaching from year to year,....I would rather have a new "reallocation" draft EVERY season,....each team gets to keep 20 from last year and everyone else is up for grabs,.....

Why?

That sounds like some liberal's "hey, things aren't fair - they have, we don't, so we should be entitled to get their players" kind of argument. Ooohrah, don't tell me you've turned into one of them.......have you?

Also it could be argued that the quality of football would go down somewhat, because of continuty.

And good luck running it by the player's union - 40 per cent of players from every team could be moving from city to city.
