Professional golfer Tiger Woods was seriously injured in a car accident early this morning, the Florida Highway Patrol just reported.

Woods, 33, pulled out of his driveway in the Isleworth community about 2:25 a.m. when he struck a fire hydrant, and then drove into a tree at his neighbor's property, FHP reported.

Woods was transported to Health Central Hospital in Ocoee in serious condition, FHP said. No other information about his condition has been released.

A Health Central hospital employee said at 2:30 p.m. that Woods was not a patient. A hospital operator would not say if Woods had been treated and released.

FHP said the airbags in Woods' Cadillac Escalade did not deploy, which means the vehicle was traveling under 33 mph.

Orange County Fire Rescue received the call for aid at 2:28 a.m. Woods was transported from his Windermere-area neighborhood by the hospital's own ambulance.

FHP did not report the accident until just after 2 p.m. today. The agency said the crash remains under investigation and charges are pending.

Details are still coming out... I can't imagine him being seriously hurt by hitting a hydrant and then a tree while pulling out of his driveway. Unless something else caused him to hit those things... like a heart attack or something. Either something like that or he passed out while drunk... but still don't think you can get killed going < 30 into a tree.

I was just reading about this. Tiger's been known to hit the sauce before. I just hope he's smart enough to not be driving after doing it....

I wonder what they are not saying. How can you get injuries backing out of your driveway, hitting a fire hydrant, and then a tree ... I just can't imagine he was going that fast.

I think there's going to be more to come ...

I read that the airbags on his Escalade did not deploy, which means he was doing less than 33 MPH.

I don't know how as an investigator, you can say for sure alcohol was not involved when he hits a fire hydrant and a tree, pulling out of his own driveway.... at 230 in the morning...

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Tiger Woods has been seriously injured in a car wreck in Florida, authorities said Friday.

Woods
Woods

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at 2:25 a.m. ET. Woods was driving a 2009 Cadillac sport utility vehicle.

The police report narrative said the "driver had just pulled out of the driveway at his residence ... as [vehicle] began to drive on Deacon Circle, [vehicle] struck a fire hydrant. The front of [vehicle] then struck a tree..."

Woods was taken to Health Central Hospital. His condition was not immediately known, though the highway patrol news release said his injuries were serious.

The airbags in the car did not deploy, according to a report in the Orlando Sentinel. The newspaper said that airbags typically do not deploy if a vehicle is traveling less than 33 miles per hour.

The highway patrol says the crash is still under investigation, and charges are pending. However, the highway patrol said the crash was not alcohol-related.

Woods is scheduled to play in the Chevron World Challenge beginning Dec. 3 in Thousand Oaks, Calif. He last played two weeks ago in Australia, where he won the Australian Masters. web page

I just heard on sportscenter that he had facial lacerations so it probably isn't too big of a deal...

Just heard on the radio that he was released from the hospital and is fine.

Where was he going at 2:30 AM? I'm guessing that he wanted a good parking spot at the local Walmart for the day-after-Thanksgiving Sale that started at 4 AM.

What caused the accident? One of three things: 1.) He dropped his cigarette between his legs while driving; 2.) A bee was in his car; 3.) A cat, dog, or deer ran in front of his vehicle and Woods, unlike Derden, wanted to spare its life.

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Tiger Woods was injured in a car wreck early Friday near his Florida home, but was released from the hospital later in the day.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at 2:25 a.m. ET. Woods was driving a 2009 Cadillac sport utility vehicle. No one else was in the car.

The highway patrol first reported Woods' injuries as serious, though Woods spokesman, Glenn Greenspan, said Friday afternoon that the golfer was treated at the hospital and released in good condition. A statement from the hospital, as well as Greenspan's statement, termed the accident as "minor."

The police report narrative said the "driver had just pulled out of the driveway at his residence ... as [vehicle] began to drive on Deacon Circle, [vehicle] struck a fire hydrant. The front of [vehicle] then struck a tree..."

The airbags in the car did not deploy, according to a report in the Orlando Sentinel. The newspaper said airbags typically do not deploy if a vehicle is traveling less than 33 miles per hour.

Woods agent, Mark Steinberg, told USA Today that Woods is fine. Golf World magazine executive editor Ron Sirak said on ESPNEWS that Woods has "facial lacerations."

Mayor Gary Bruhn of Windermere, Fla., where Woods lives, also said that Woods has facial lacerations.

He won six times this year on the PGA Tour after missing eight months recovering from reconstructive surgery on his left knee. Even though he failed to win a major, Woods said he considered this a successful year because he did not know how his knee would respond.

Woods won a seventh title in the Australian Masters.

Woods, who has won 82 times around the world and 14 majors, returned to his $2.4 million home in the exclusive Isleworth subdivision near Orlando earlier this week after attending the Stanford-Cal football game, where he tossed the coin at the start of the game and was inducted into Stanford's sports Hall of Fame at halftime.

Woods' $2.4 million home is part of the exclusive Isleworth subdivision near Orlando, a community set on an Arnold Palmer-designed golf course and a chain of small lakes. The neighborhood, which is fortified with high brick walls and has its own security force, is home to CEOs and other sports stars such as the NBA's Shaquille O'Neal.

So, alcohol was not involved according to police. Yet he suffered serious injuries......okay, that can happen. It was 2:30 a.m.

And charges are pending? I suppose for destruction of public property? (the fire hydrant).

Something seems to be missing to me.

Failure to maintin control of vehicle.

The destruction of publivc property will just require him to pay for the stuff he wrecked into.

its called a breathalyzer,he blows into a little tube and 5 seconds later they have a reading of his blood alcohol level. If it is zero then that rules out alcohol.

Well they could have, there are mobile handheld units, but even of they didnt the press release about the accident wasnt made until 2 p.m. The accident happened at 230 a.m. They had almost 12 hours to get the info together. Tiger was breathalyzed at the scene or when he got to the hospital.

Police chief: Woods’ wife helped after accident

By DOUG FERGUSON, AP Golf Writer 47 minutes ago

JACKSONVILLE, Florida (AP)—Tiger Woods was injured when he lost control of his car outside his Florida mansion, and a local police chief said Woods’ wife used a golf club to smash out the back window to help get him out early Friday.

The world’s No. 1 golfer was treated and released from a hospital in good condition, his spokesman said. The Florida Highway Patrol said Woods’ vehicle hit a fire hydrant and a tree in his neighbor’s yard after he pulled out of his driveway at 2:25 a.m.

Windermere Police Chief Daniel Saylor told The Associated Press that officers found the 33-year-old Woods laying in the street with his wife, Elin, hovering over him.

Security guards gather near the home, left, of Tiger Woods on Friday, Nov. 27, 2009, in Windermere, Fla. Woods was injured in a car accident early Friday outside his Florida mansion, and a local police chief said his wife used a golf club to smash out the back window and help get the world's No. 1 golfer out of the SUV.

She told officers she was in the house when she heard the accident and “came out and broke the back window with a golf club,” he said. “She supposedly got him out and laid him on the ground. He was in and out of consciousness when my guys got there.”

Saylor said Woods had lacerations to his lips, and blood in his mouth; officers treated Woods for about 10 minutes until an ambulance arrived. Woods was conscious enough to speak, he said.

“He was mumbling, but didn’t say anything coherent,” Saylor said.

The Florida Highway Patrol said Woods was alone in his 2009 Cadillac SUV when he pulled out of his driveway from his mansion at Isleworth, a gated waterfront community just outside Orlando.

The patrol reported Woods’ injuries as serious, although Woods spokesman Glenn Greenspan issued a statement that Woods was treated and released.

The patrol said alcohol was not involved, although the accident remains under investigation and charges could be filed.

Left unanswered was where Woods was going at that hour. Greenspan and agent Mark Steinberg said there would be no comment beyond the short statement of the accident on Woods’ Web site.

Saylor said his responding officers did not hear anything about an alleged argument between Woods and his wife.

“Right now we believe this is a traffic crash. We don’t believe it is a domestic issue,” patrol spokesman Sergeant Kim Montes said.

Woods, coming off a two-week trip to China and Australia this month, is host of the Chevron World Challenge in Thousand Oaks, California, which starts on Thursday. He is scheduled to have his press conference on Tuesday at Sherwood Country Club. Steinberg said he did not know if Woods planned to play next week.

The accident report was not released until nearly 12 hours after Woods was injured. Patrol spokesman Kim Montes said the accident did not meet the criteria of a serious crash, and the FHP put out a press release only because of inquiries from local media.

Montes said the patrol reports injuries as serious if they require more than minor medical attention. Air bags in the SUV did not deploy.

Two troopers tried to talk to Woods late Friday, but his wife said he was sleeping and they agreed to come back on Saturday, Montes said.

She said charges could be filed if there was a clear traffic violation, although troopers still do not know what caused Woods’ SUV to hit the hydrant and the tree.

Woods rarely faces such private scrutiny, even as perhaps the most famous active athlete in the world.

He usually made news only because of what he can do with a golf club. Few other athletes have managed to keep their private lives so guarded, or have a circle of friends so airtight when it comes to life off the course.

Woods’ $2.4 million home is part of an exclusive subdivision set on an Arnold Palmer-designed golf course and a chain of small lakes. The neighborhood, which is fortified with high brick walls and has its own security force, is home to CEOs and other sports stars such as the NBA’s Shaquille O’Neal.

Woods has won 14 majors and 82 times around the world, most recently at the Australian Masters on Nov. 15.

He won six times this year after missing eight months recovering from reconstructive surgery on his left knee. Even though he failed to win a major, Woods said he considered this a successful year because he did not know how his knee would respond.

Associated Press writers Tamara Lush and Lisa Orkin Emmanuel in Miami contributed to this report.

I agree, the way they painted the picture it comes across like Tigers wife smashed in the window and beat him with a golf club

I really hate to speculate but it just seems to me like something here is being covered up by Tiger and his hottie wife. My though is that they were having a fight and he tried to leave and she did a little body work on the SUV,which caused Eldrick to crash.

Tiger Woods said Elin Nordegren, not car crash, scratched face & chased him with golf club: report

BY Rose Davis In Windemere, Fla., and Tina Moore and Larry Mcshane In New York
NEW YORK DAILY NEWS WRITERS

Originally Published:Friday, November 27th 2009, 2:50 PM

Tiger Woods, bolting his Florida mansion after a reported late-night fight with his wife, was found dazed and bleeding Friday after plowing his SUV into a fire hydrant and a tree.

The world's No. 1 golfer was pulling out of his driveway at 2:25 a.m. when he double-bogeyed the getaway in his 2009 Cadillac Escalade, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Wife Elin Nordegren heard the crash from inside the couple's $2.4 million home and went to her spouse's aid, police said.

The one-time Swedish model grabbed a golf club, smashed out a rear window in the SUV and helped Woods out of the wreck, said Windermere Police Chief Daniel Saylor.

But TMZ.com reported that a source said Nordegren scratched Woods' face after she went berserk over reports he was seeing another woman and chased him with a golf club, striking his vehicle as he ran from the home.

The Web site said the source talked to Woods after the smashup.

The crash came on the heels of reports in the National Enquirer and Star magazine that Woods had an affair with a New York nightclub hostess - who denied it last night to the Daily News.

Nordegren told cops she ran outside and discovered her husband bleeding from the mouth, with cuts on his lips, police said. She said she bashed out the rear window with the club and helped the 6-foot-1, 185-pound Woods out of the car.

Police arrived to find Woods, drifting in and out of consciousness, lying in the street with his wife watching over him, Saylor said. He was taken to a nearby hospital about 10 minutes later.

Cops said alcohol was not involved, but offered no explanation for where the world's richest athlete was headed alone in the middle of the night.

Woods and Nordegren live in the Isleworth neighborhood with their two children, 2-year-old Sam and 9-month-old Charlie.

The accident was part of a rough week for Woods, who is on the front page of this week's Enquirer under the headline "Tiger Woods Cheating Scandal."

The tabloid claimed Woods was having an affair with Rachel Uchitel - a sexy Manhattan hostess who lost a fiancé in the World Trade Center on 9/11 and was previously linked to married television star David Boreanaz.

Uchitel, a former party planner who has worked as a VIP hostess at swanky nightspots, denied it in a message sent to The News from her Facebook account.

"There is NO relationship with tiger these girls quoted in the story are not being truthful," she wrote.

"I resent my name being slung thru the mud."

The Enquirer story - and a similar story in Star - quoted a woman named Ashley Samson and said she was friends with Uchitel and passed a polygraph.

"I did not say those things to those 'sources' and im not friends with ashley simpson or whatever her name is," Uchitel insisted.

Woods had no comment beyond a statement that downplayed the accident.

"Tiger Woods was in a minor car accident outside his home last night," it read. "He was admitted, treated and released in good condition. We appreciate very much everyone's thoughts and well wishes."

Woods, 33, was taken by ambulance to Health Central Hospital in Ocoee after the crash, about a half-mile off the main drag in Windermere, just west of Orlando.

Florida Highway Patrol troopers went to Woods' home last night to talk to the golfer, but were turned away by Nordegren who said her husband was resting. She asked them to return today and they agreed, spokeswoman Kim Montes told the Orlando Sentinel.

His neighbors in the tree-lined development, with its private golf course and small lakes, include NBA star Shaquille O'Neal.

Police said the air bags on the 2009 Escalade did not deploy, meaning Woods was likely driving slower than 33 mph.

The crash remains under investigation and charges are possible against Woods, who has avoided public controversy in his stellar career. Woods owns 14 major championships, the second-highest total in golfing history, and earns more than $100 million annually from golf and his endorsement deals. He has captured 82 victories worldwide.

Last Saturday, Woods handled the coin toss before the California-Stanford football game. At halftime, the Stanford alum - accompanied by his wife - was inducted into his alma mater's sports Hall of Fame.

Just a though, but why would you smash out the back window of a SUV to get a passenger from the drivers seat? So he crawled over 2 or 3 rows of seats to get out the back of a vehicle that was fully in tact? It just does not make sense.

That's what I was wondering Kingo.

Sounds like she was trying to think fast and cover up something. Unless she climbed in and unlocked the doors from the inside that way. Who knows.

Of course it doesn't..she is a domestic abuser. She clobberd Tiger in the face with the club, he took off, she smashed the rear window as he was driving away, then he crashed as he was still woozy from getting hit in the face with a golf club.

Just add it up....this isn't rocket science, nor is it a courtroom.

The latest is security cameras on the property show her driving a golfcart with a club in her hand, before the crash, where before she said she went back inside to get a club after the crash.

Trust me, this story doesn't work. LOL

I do give Tiger credit for trying to keep his wife out of jail.

He knows he boned some chick, so he is paying the price.

The two of them need to get over it and move on.....together if possible...that's up to her.

My advice to her is stuff happens. If he is really ready to reconcile, then she needs to be ready to accept it if she loves the guy...there is a difference between a thing and fling.

The advice would be the same had it been the other way around.

He's got a wife (and more importantly, two young kids). Only a greasebag screws around in that case.
And not that it matters, but his wife is very attractive, too.

And not that it matters, but his wife is very attractive, too.

I am not trying to diminish the transgression....just saying if the marriage is worth salvaging, he isn't the first spouse to dip in to another well.

If everybody had like minds, we would never learn.

Who is this Tiger Woods person again, and why do people care again?

So he's a golfer - some say the best ever. And he wrecked his car? And the earth stops?

There is no doubt in my mind this was a domestic dispute gone awry. Why else would he refuse to talk to the FHP?........3 days in a row.

Scrub this mission. Tiger ain't the world......he's not even the country. He's a good golfer that has gotten rich. Nothing more, nothing less........well, a good golfer that pissed his wife off.

it's a chance for the media to obliterate the perfect image of a star athlete.

same thing with kobe, same thing with bonds,

i'm not saying that what those guys did wasn't wrong, but the media went absolutely nuts when they did it. where you have guys who did the same things and didn't get a quarter of the coverage.

Breaking out the common sense here, all I know is that there's too much NONsense here for this thing to make legitimate sense on it's own.

In all actuality, this thing could be explained away in a heartbeat if alcohol WAS involved, as that'd give him a legit reason why he hit a damned water valve before he ever got out of his driveway.

But he didn't.

There's nowhere Woods would legitimately be going at 2:30 in the morning which is so strange that he couldn't come right out and talk about it in his statement.

I won't speculate why he and his wife may have had a potential fallout, but it sure looks to me like that's what was happening.

***Gordon, I really didn't think you could be this stOOpid, but you exceeded my expectations. Wussy.
Manziel, see Josh Gordon. Dumbass.***
