I began to think about the weirdness that only happens to the Browns. Taking stock for posterity. Let's make the list.
The pass interference - pass interference at the end of the game to give a game winning touchdown after the clock expired.
The helmet toss - Kansas City, helmet taken off giving the Chiefs a game winning TD
Bottle-gate - instant replay after one play had been run (or so we say!)
The field goal tragedy - Pitt gets an extra chance at field goal because the kicked ball never passed the line of scrimmage and Pitt recovered.
The drive - That horsed toothed jerk Elway drives at end of game to win AFC Championship.
Help me out. I know there are more!

I'd contribute to this thread .... but shoving toothpicks in my eyeballs sounds like more fun.
Micah 6:8; He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.

Browns playing at Arizona, early in game. Browns hold them on 3rd down but Browns defender playfully kicks ball that bounced perfectly before him. Browns penalized giving Cardinals 1st down, they subsequently score TD on the drive. Browns lose close one in desert as Winslows catches ball in final seconds forwhat would be winning TD but doesn't get call that he was pushed out of bounds by Cards defender (from what I saw that final call coud have gone either way).
Within last few weeks I saw another playful kick (not a Browns game), no penalty call, don't know if rule has changed?
Also recall game in K.C. in closing moments of 1st half, time running out, Chiefs have no T.O.'s, ref spots ball just in front of Big Money who is walking back to position. Big Money walks into ball, Browns again penalized for kicking ball.

Ahhhn yes, you're refering to the "Push that would change the rules!" I remember it fondly!
How about the "Kick that would befuddle the Refs" - Browns kick the ball, it hits the up rites and bounces off the neck of the goal only to go forwards out of the goal. Somehow this worked in our favor (I still can't believe it) and the rules were forever changed again.

Ah, yes. Fond memories. Since our return we have actually lost two games where we were ahead when time ran out in the 4th quarter.

Just yesterday, Carson Palmer was trying to get out of bounds with no time on the clock at halftime. Rogers - wanting the sack, I guess - horse-collars him which is a defensive penalty. Since no half can end on a defensive penalty, the ball is forwarded for the 15 yard penalty, the Bengals get a shot at a long field goal which, of course, they make. The halftime field goal ends up being the 2nd score in a 2 score game ... at 13-7, its a whole different game. Ridiculous? Yes. Typical? Only for the Browns.

The "Phantom first down" vs. Pittsburgh this year. At first I thought it was just a weird camera angle until I saw where Ben Rothlisberger said "I don't know how they gave us the first down".

Too many to list bro. It's obvious that the officiating in the NFL is part of an agenda. Across the NFL, I've seen officials throw flags that extend drives, or that negate big plays, or that negate big punt/kick returns.
One thing that is very, very, obvious to me - it's the officials, not the players or coaches, that decide who wins.

2001- Browns were about to go 5-2 but blow a two touchdown lead on the Bears with about 1:30 left. The Browns were packing away their gear, kicking net, tees etc... but Shane Matthews hits a hail mary to force overtime.
Before overtime my buddy said "Mike Brown's going to intercept it and run it back for a TD" which subsequently happened.

My wife and I were there, along with her sister and husband.
Suffice it to say I sat my butt down quickly when it was over.
The bears fans were great though.

Eh, not bad at all. My bro in law really doesn't care about football, my sis in law had her say early. I get along with her great. She's the spitting image of my wife, and honestly, aside from her liking the bears, we get along great.
Plus, I slept most of the way home.
Really, though, they are great people - easy to get along with.....heck, lots of times my sis in law stands up for me when my wife and I "can't agree".

Wasn't that the game where Northcutt was busted for taking a leak on the sidelines? DURING THE GAME!

How about the Houston Oilers pass backwards .. sometimes known as a lateral... the ball is dropped. Clay Mathews Sr picks the ball up and runs it in for a TD oh wait that wasnt a lateral it was an "illegal backward pass" no TD. I think this might have kept us out of the playoffs, I forget.

Good call on Zeus getting hit in the eye with a flag. I was picking up some chicken wings when I heard that on the radio. I hear " He just hit the ref to the ground" me and the passanger just looked at each other in disbelief and flew back home to everyone packed at the TV saying "geuss what you guys just missed!" The memories of being a Browns fan.

I wonder if we can enter phantom penalties. I remember a close game in the expansion season that should have been the browns first win. A Browns player returns an int. only to be called back for defenseive holding. Replays couldnt find it.
I dont know how many returns Northcutt had called back and no show of a replay of the phantom calls.
I swear something is being fixed. When as much money as the NFL has, can you blame me for thinking that? Its more often than not, when that much money is involved, something is up somewhere.
Like the Detroit pass interferance call. Detroit didnt have many fans at the stadium BEFORE Turkey Day. I swear the Browns had more "of their own" fans at the Cincy game last year (week 16) in the freezing cold knowing our coach and GM were going to be fired and the team was on its 4th QB. So the league is thinking that Detroit needs the win and money more than Cleveland does. Their fans are still just happy they have a team. They sell more tickets for a lossing team than anyone. Just ask Jax whose in a wildcard race. I think you can reply every hail marry ever thrown and possibley more than half the time your going to see more contact with a receiver than the one in Detroit.

The NFL is totally fixed---just look at Tom Brady. There have been two rules made up, just because of him!!!! And he isn't even that good!!!! They fix the game to make it "more exciting."
And its undeniable that the officials put a framework on the game and help guide it in a specific direction. Thats what rules are there for, to control the game.

Its true. Laugh all you want. Refs put their mark on each and every game. That is the NFL's way of controlling the chaos. Its that way with every sport. You have league officials who call the fouls and the leagues make up the rules. That pretty much suggests that the leagues control the action through officiating.
And Tom Brady is a system QB, put him anywhere else and he sucks. Look at Matt Cassel---he put up ridiculous numbers in NE. He plays for the Chiefs and ain't anything special. Its the system. Cassels success proved to me what I had always suspected. It isn't Tom Brady, its the system they have there in NE.

1. What is the 2nd rule you're speaking of? (no leg hits was his) 2. He is that good. 50 TD's in one season and 3 rings says he is. I would KILL for him to be our QB.
System-schmisstem. A QB still has to read the pre-snap coverage, call the right audible, make the right decision, and execute the throw. No system does that for you. He's a leader man. The three rings he has were on his back on the final drive.
If your "system" acusation were true, you could argue Montana & Young were both system QB's too. They both won in the same system back-to-back and neither won elsewhere.
Does that mean I think T.Brady is the best QB of all time and I want him to be my best friend forever......no. But he's on the Mount Rushmore of QB's of this decade.

Tuck Rule
That rule was in the NFL books way before to that snowy playoff game. Heck, there's a reason why the Pats knew it was going to be overturned that day....they had the Tuck Rule happen to them in reverse earlier in the same season while playing the Jets. Trust me, the NFL did not "create" the Tuck Rule for Tom Brady. It was made famous by that playoff game.

the league isn't fixed. i just think there is so much madness during a football play that the refs can't get everything right.
although i have no rebuttal for those that bring up that pittsburgh first down after the chains showed they were short by a hair. and it wasn't the angle, that's a crap statement, even pittsburgh's players said they were shocked, and they were right there.
not that it mattered anyways. just like the detroit hail mary (which was a correct call) the browns still suck.
maybe when we actually put a good team on the field we can stop with the whole "OMGZORZZ THE EN EFF ELL IS FEEXED!!"

1980 Vikings game....Vikings down by 1....throw 30 yard hook and lateral followed by a 50 yard Hail Marry TD from Kramer to Ahmad Rashad to beat us.
80 yards in about 12 seconds.

This thread reminds me of a crotchety old man who was a regular at this Browns Backers bar I watched games at for two seasons....
Late in games, even when we had things seemingly locked up, he'd angrily call out *exactly* what was going to happen, wave his hand and go to the bathroom.
4th and 18? "Their quarterback will run for it!" He walks off, it happens.

We had one of only two players in NFL history to blow out BOTH ACL's on ONE play!
Gary Baxter...the other guy was a no-name with the Raiders so I guess we are the only team with a starter to blow out both ACL's on one play....only the Browns.
We have to have the most coaches who have been fired from our team only to win a Superbowl in the same position - Belechek has 3, Arians has 1; I'm sure there are others.
We will be a part of history most likely after this season for firing the only head coach to be fired by two different teams in back-to-back seasons.
