At least he's a man of his word...

Bears Fan Changes Name to Peyton Manning After Colts Win Superbowl
Wednesday, February 07, 2007

DECATUR, Ill. — He doesn't want to do it, but die-hard Bears fan Scott Wiese is changing his name.

The 26-year-old Forsyth man told friends that if his beloved team didn't win the Super Bowl, he'd become Peyton Manning after the Indianapolis Colts star quarterback.

Click here to read the full report in the Herald-Review.

He even signed a petition in front of 200 people last week at Decatur's Katz Piano Bar that he'd do it.

After the Colts defeated the Bears 29-to-17 on Sunday, Wiese started the process.

He trudged to the Macon County Courts Facility yesterday and filed the paperwork. The change still has to be approved by a judge.

Wiese says he really cares about the team and that his sacrifice represents the true passion of Bears fans.

(Forsyth is about seven miles north of Decatur)

Well, at least 'Peyton Manning' is a name tied to a winning team. I think he should have to name himself 'Rex Grossman' for it to be a sacrifice. 'Rex Grossman' will get him dirty looks throughout Illinois for years to come.

I hope the judge throws this request out of court.

If I was Bartman, I would have changed my name on my way home from the game. Its too bad that kid's name was published through the media. I think it would have been better if we never knew who he was.

I was in Mexico at the time and people knew who Bartman was. Kinda freaky.

I wonder if the guy will ultimately get sued, like the guy who pretended to be Ben Roethlisberger...

Unfortunately, along with an offensive line, so do the Browns.

Think about during your fantasy football draft:

Pick #1: "LT"
Pick #2: "Manning"
Commish: "Which one?"
Pick #2: "Peyton"
Commish: "Again, which one?"
Pick #2: "Peyton Manning, laser rocket arm from Tennesse not the undrafted free agent from Decatur"
Commish: "Thanks, next."

Maybe he goes by the name Tyler on a message board, and he is hoping they send him one of the real Paytons checks.
