I'm not really a U of Cincinnati fan, but I've enjoyed watching a few of their games this year. I woke up this morning and turned on sportscenter to hear that Brian Kelly can't guarantee he will coach the Sugar Bowl b/c he might be the ND coach. When are one of these guys going to have the guts to say, "I would love to be coach, but can it wait three weeks so I can coach the bowl game?" I guess we'll just have to see if he does or not.

Is there really that much of a recruiting advantage to three weeks?

Couldn't agree more. You recruit these kids promising them a chance at greatness, to build something special, they come to your school and lay it all on the line for several years, finally achieving that which you promised them... a chance to play in a major BCS bowl game.. and 3 weeks before the game, you take the fame that they helped you achieve and you abandon them... it sucks.

I would agree if it weren't for the fact that their bowl game is meaningless. I know, I know...bowl games are what the players play for, the school is judged on, and bowl wins look amazing when recruiting. However, it's an exhibition game with no factor to the championship.

Supposedly, coaching ND is a once in a lifetime opportunity. I would think the players would see the situation from both sides and be happy for coach. Well, it still sucks he might leave but that is a constant in college football. Players leave early for the pro's and coaches jump to the bigger, better school when they can. It's how it works.

Personally, I'd rather stay in Cincy if the money were close or the same. Unless you win a championship, the ND fans and media will toss you aside in 3-4 years.

I agree Cincy is a hotbed for recruiting anyhow.

But I don't think Cincy could pay 5 million a year, which is what Kelly might get from Notre Dame.

Notre Dame is one of the jobs where if you hit, you will go down as an all time great. An icon so to speak. Plus with all their tradition if you get the ball rolling, you would probably be at the top in recruiting every year. I think that's why so many flock to ND. None probably thinks they will fail. They have the perspective at hitting it big, and what comes with that success.

Yes.

Just remember. John Calipari brought in Eric Bledsoe, John Wall, Demarcus Cousins, convinced Patterson to return to school, kept Daniel Orton and John Hood....

In 3 weeks.

3 weeks is a lifetime in recruiting.

I agree.

Especially for Football players in December/January....these are the most critical weeks as it is when most of the top recruits make their final decisions.

If Kelly waits until after the Sugar....it might be harder to change the minds of those recruits rather than starting now.

I hate the system....I think signing day should be moved out to late March, but it's how the system works right now.

That's why it has to be a "right fit" guy. No way to find out unless you put him in there,...it's what ND had hoped for in Weis.

Right now, I'm not hearing of any other candidates that peak my interest. Maybe Kirk Ferentz,...

What a bum, I hope he bombs out.
What really needs to be quoted is what Herbstreit said a few weeks ago:

I don't care if Charlie Weis is the coach at Notre Dame next year or not! Why are we still talking about Notre Dame? They're not anything special anymore! They consistently win 7 or 8 games a season. They don't put up 10 or 11 wins a year anymore. Newt Rockne is gone!...

I thought Notre Dame was looking for a defensive coach. Kelly isnt thier man if they want to improve on defense. As fun as Cincy was to watch this year, thier defense was horrible.

You know they lost like 10-11 starters on defense right?

Don't really know I didn't really watch them. As with all college defenses they can look good until they get exposed example Florida's D was top ranked in everything and Alabama just crushed them. I think for that reason is it extremely difficult to judge a college D.

Cinci's D was much better last year....not top-flight, but definitely good enough in the Big East...

Guys like Connor Barwin (a converted TE into a pass-rusher) were on that defense.
