This is a bit off topic but ESPN said that USC has cleared Stafon Johnson to play in the senior bowl. I'm really pulling for this kid. It's amazing that he's still able to play even after the doctors said he could have been on a breathing tube for the rest of his life.

Until we trade or sign a new FA QB, I am going to fully expect the Browns to draft a QB.
Well our mock drafts are almost worthless until we find out who the coaches are going to be next year. Offense is fairly easy to see were the big needs are but the defensive needs change completely depending on if we go 3-4, 4-3. If we change to 4-3 I think it improves the chances of us drafting Derrick Morgan or G. McCoy. If we go 3-4 I think it improves the chance of E. Berry or R. McClain.
At this point we are in the dark with no flashlight.
Go Browns!!

I want absolutely nothing to do with Clausen. I really hope we go after Bradford if we're going to run the west coast offense.

Matt McGuire on walterfootball.com has a new two round mock.. Link It looks just like my first mock. 1) Eric Berry - S 2) Brandon Spikes - ILB I would be ecstatic if that happens.

I would do cartwheels if that draft happened. DQ and Spikes in the middle, Berry playing in the defensive backfield and Rogers up front. Every level of our defense would have a stud.

From the same site Walt's mock: 1 Cleveland Browns: Sam Bradford, QB, Oklahoma Here come the e-mails! I've received tons of e-mails from Browns fans who have expressed their disdain about their team drafting a quarterback. As several e-mailers have said, "Defense, defense, defense." Same story, different year. Twelve months ago, I received a barrage of e-mails from Lions fans who didn't want Matthew Stafford. "Defense, defense, defense, offensive line, offensive line, offensive line," they said. Ultimately, Detroit did what any new regime does - the team drafted a quarterback. The Browns also have a new regime in place. Mike Holmgren was just hired to be their czar. He'll be looking for a quarterback because Brady Quinn is horrible. If he doesn't trade for a signal-caller, he'll heavily consider Sam Bradford. Bradford has a lot of issues. He was featured exclusively in the shotgun at Oklahoma; his arm strength is very questionable; he barely played this past season; and he's coming off shoulder surgery. The big key for Holmgren is that final item. If he's convinced that Bradford's completely healthy, there's a very good chance that he'll take him. If not, Eric Berry will be the guy. I'm about 50-50 right now; we'll see what happens in the next couple of months. 2 Cleveland Browns: Jared Odrick, DE/DT, Penn State Here are your defensive players, Browns fans. Cleveland's starting defensive ends Kenyon Coleman and Robaire Smith are 30 and 32, respectively. An injection of talent and youth is needed at this position. Jared Odrick is a first-round talent, but he has some off-the-field incidents in his past that might drag him into Round 2. 3A Cleveland Browns: Eric Norwood, DE/OLB, South Carolina I know the Browns had eight sacks against the Steelers, but they only have one reliable pass-rusher in Kamerion Wimbley. 3B Cleveland Browns: Ciron Black, OT, LSU Taking a break from defense, the Browns really need to upgrade the right side of their offensive line.

Take away bradford and that is a pretty good draft...I like Norwood.
If we go QB, Bradford is just too frail with a gimp arm. I would take Claussen, McCoy, Pike or Tebow before I took Sammy.
If we take him, I hope I don't find a string of strong rope in the garage as I might be tempted to hang myself.
If everybody had like minds, we would never learn. GM Strong

If we are going to the West Coast offense and if Holmgren wants his guy we'd be stupid as hell to pass on Bradford. If we draft Tebow I'll use that rope you were going to use.

If we take a quarterback, I'll trust Holmgren to make the right decision... He's coached... Joe Montana and Steve Young in San Francisco Brett Favre in Green Bay and Matt Hasselbeck in Seattle.

While I've admittedly only watched a limited amount of both, I have similar thoughts, especially with Williams. Williams just looked like he could catch the ball, and Benn has great athleticism. I need to watch more of them.

Draft order update:
If Dallas wins and Washington loses, we pick 6th.
If Washington wins, we pick 5th.
Berry is potentially becoming a long-shot to be there. I'd rather keep winning, but I want Berry as well.
Statistics are like a bikini; what they show is interesting, but what they hide is vital. Drive for show (1st round), Putt for dough (rest of draft).

It's looking like Berry, Suh, and Maybe even Clausen and Bradford would be off the board. St. Louis: Jimmah Clausen Detriot: Russell Okung Kanas City: Wildcard? Eric Berry Tampa Bay: N. Suh Washington: Sam Bradford Cleveland:
That would be a bad day for us...as the only two elite players are gone and the only QB who I think would be good for us would be gone too.
Go Browns!!

We saw what the Steelers look like without Polamalu.
The stock of safeties will rise over the next 5 years...book it.

Sean Taylor went 4, so there is a chance he goes that high. If people knew how good Ed Reed or Polamulu were they might have went in the top 3.
I would be more surprised if Suh went 4. He would really have to screw up here until the draft for that to happen. It will be interesting to see who the rams take. Chris Speilman made a great point on who should the Rams take. He said defensive tackles don't win super bowls, and Quarterbacks do. We'll see.

Well looking at the needs of team and what's available who would you give them? I think we can agree Berry is an elite player so here's my thinking;
Chiefs- -Have a QB in Cassel. They traded for him and give him big money. No QBs -Have drafted Glenn Dorsey and Tyson Jackson so very unlikely for Suh -No RBs worth it -WR Maybe but at this point no WR is even close to being rated this high -best Player on the board Eric Berry -They have Secondary Problems
Where am I wrong? What would you have KC do?

Don't think logically when it comes to Pioli and drafting. The Patriots do everything differently.
I think it is very possible he could draft Suh with his emphasis on the DL, as well as him being the BPA. I also think Rolando McClain is a very possible option. He is a top 5 player IMO, the Chiefs really need linebackers, and Pioli did draft Mayo 7th, which was quite a bit earlier than most of the experts predicted.
But what I really think will happen is Detroit will take McCoy, and the Chiefs will snap Okung.
But at this point it's speculation. However, history has shown that safeties tend to drop.

Those are good points however, how many times in history has the Safety been the BPA in the draft. Sean Taylor draft yeah but other than that?
Seriously I think this is going to be a tough draft to predict. The Browns and Chief's picks will be the most intriguing.

McCoy? really? Once Bradford got hurt I admit I didn't watch a lot of OU football. Would you post your opinion on him and why you have him rated higher than berry? I'm curious

Watching Kentucky vs Clemson and man is CJ fast. If CJ Spiller runs in the 4.2-4.3 range does that make him a top 10ish pick?
It would be interesting to see say the least. Honestly i think he has the only chance of a RB being drafted in the top 10.

The higher Spiller goes, the better our pick gets.
I have a number of guys that I would be happy with. Eric Berry, Okung, Dez Bryant, and Relando McClain would all be bigtime difference makers on this team.
When it comes to QB, that's a decision for Holmgren, I don't trust any QBs in this class really.
We have major holes. This team needs a safety, it needs a number 1 cornerback (Wright stays, McDonald still sucks but can be backup, Poteat sucks, and Mike Adams sucks. I haven't seen or heard from Coye Francies). Teams can pass all over us if they want. And we will never beat legitimate teams until we can defend the pass and get off the field on third downs (unless the weather is awful).
Whether we go to 4-3 or stay with 3-4, McClain of Alabama could be extremely useful. He would do a number for this defense, and I see him filling into a Ray Lewis-esque leadership role in due time. In a few years, this could become "his" defense. The same way that Dawkins and Ray Lewis have taken over in the past.
Dez Bryant would be great. I've always liked him, and he's a guy that I've watched when possible. (may be 3 or 4 times?) He gets seperation, has good hands, and runs strong routes. He's very productive, has a knack for making big plays, and he can go vertical as well as run short routes. While I don't necessarily think he'll become the next TO and he isn't as athletic as Braylon, I do think he definitely is a number 1 receiver. And I do think he will develop into the type of player that defenses have to gameplan around. Bryant, Massaquoi, Robiskie, and Stuckey wouldn't be a bad tandem.
Okung is a name I throw out there because he's generally refered to as a really good tackle. Well we can really use a good RT to help us control the line of scrimmage and run the ball better. Sunday against the Raiders showed how controlling the LOS can help your offense.
And I'm not counting Suh, who probably wouldn't fall to us (which if he did would probably be the pick). And I don't really know anything about Gerald McCoy either.
CJ Spiller isn't on my radar really at all..... He's impressive, but I'm not spending my top pick on him. He's very fast, and an electrifying player, but I'm not sure if he's an everydown back and if he can handle the NFL workload of an everydown back.
May be I just have trouble with high pick RBs

LaRon Landry also went 6th.
BTW, Landry and Taylor were never widely considered to be top-3 players in their drafts.
I definitely could see Berry going top-5, but what might save us is other teams' needs. St. Louis desperately needs a QB (but same could probably be said for us) and Washington likely will take one. Detroit just took a safety early last year and needs to improve their run D. TB needs DT as well so it looks likely that Suh and McCoy are going there. However, if Suh isn't there for TB I wouldn't be surprised if they or KC takes Berry, as neither have got much invested in the S position.
If we win again we might be picking after the Raiders and Bills (in addition to Washington.) Chances are getting slimmer and slimmer of getting Berry.

Landry wasn't a top 3 player, but of the players available he was the best fit for Washington. Taylor was definitely considered a top 3 player, and most had him as their best. That simply isn't true.
Loki, I just think McCoy is a very good player. He's a better version of Glenn Dorsey to me. Great penetrater and pass rusher, who is also good against the run. I don't like him in a 3-4, but as a 4-3 tackle, he's my 1b to Suh's 1a.

One of KC's biggest needs is Oline. Even if Okung goes before their selection I can see them still taking a LT - Williams from Oklahoma most likely but also possibly Campbell from Maryland, Davis from Rutgers or Bulaga if he declares are other considerations for KC.

Well, since I'm actually old enough to remember that draft, I can tell you with full confidence that Larry Fitzgerald was firmly thought of as the top prospect followed by Robert Gallery. Eli Manning was the next-highest for many people, although Taylor was thought by many (including myself) to be the top defender.
Either way you have to go back further to put a safety as the #1 or #2 prospect in the draft. Maybe to Eric Turner? Were you born when he was drafted?

That was one of the best drafts of all-time. 14 pro-bowlers in the 1st, and even 4 that were undrafted. (Willie Parker, Wes Welker, Jason Peters, and Mat Mcbriar)

A: I remember it vividly. I was sitting in my newly redone basement, hoping that by some miracle the Browns would get A: Robert Gallery (because we really needed a left tackle) or the most talented player in the draft, Sean Taylor. I then remember being ecstatic when we got Winslow, but extremely pissed when I learned we gave up our 2nd rounder.

Scott Wright is consider by many as a top scout in the league. He is used and quoted in many medias. And can you produce something saying that Taylor isnt a top 3 prospect? You guys seem adamant to say that a safety isnt valued that high yet fail to produce some validation to this statement.
"The medium for the bad news was ESPN, which figured. The network represents much of what is loud, obnoxious and empty in sports today."

I wasn't saying a safety isn't valued that high. I'm saying that berry's pre-draft ranking as the #1 or #2 prospect is unprecedented this decade and that there is a very strong chance that berry will go #3 or #4 to Tampa or kc. I certainly hope he doesn't because I want him to be a brown.
