If the story going around the local radio shows is true, he threatened to jump out and kill himself if she didn't stop. She didn't. He did.

I feel bad for her that she has to live with those last words and actions.

Chris Henry enjoyed a short, polarizing career in the NFL. As a football player he was a promising wr in Cincinnati, and a dedicated teammate in the locker room. His life off the field was marred with juvenile antics, poor decision and domestic assaults. It reached a fateful end from the tail-end of a pickup truck.

He left a family and an organization behind.

Considering what he meant to so many people, and the way it all ended; its an incredible tragedy for everyone involved.

I live in the Cincinnati market...I'm hearing the radio shows, NFL players & coaches, and friends of CH call in. I suppose you're right...they are all wrong.

First thing here I never said I was right about anything so you can throw that right out the window, I only said does any of us really know....If I would have posted something before this happened about him beating his girlfriend, or giving weed to some underage girls everyone on here would be saying "some people never change", but since he got killed suddenly the guy was a saint and a model citizen....give me a break!

He was trying to beat his girlfriend and she defended herself by trying to leave the situation, that crazy guy chases her out of the house and jumps on the truck trying to punch the window out to get ahold of her and falls out of the truck and dies and you want me to feel sorry for him? that aint going to happen, if this guy was truly trying to turn his life around he wouldnt of been trying to beat a woman who is probably half his size......but yeah real model american there my bad

You didn't make ANY point, but you can go right ahead thinking you did.

And, the reports of him punching at the window were of him trying to get her to stop and telling her "we need to talk". Believe what you wish, as will I. We won't know the whole story...ever. Half of it is dead.

CINCINNATI -- Chris Henry could run 40 yards in 4.3 seconds. Problem was, trouble ran a 4.2. Henry was the face of the Bad Boy Bengals, even when that gaze no longer belonged to the team, or to him. In 2009, Henry was a reformed man, living his second chance to the fullest.
And then he died.
The power of redemption is no match for the power of tragedy. There will be an investigation as to how Henry, 26, wide receiver for the Cincinnati Bengals, happened to fall from the bed of a moving pickup truck driven by his fiancée, Loleini Tonga, in Charlotte, N.C., at about noon Wednesday. The sleuths will offer a cause of death, clinically. No one will ever be able to say why it had to happen. Cause without reason.
"Just at the time he was running to daylight,'' said Bengals president Mike Brown, "his life was snuffed out.''
Henry died at 6:36 a.m. Thursday, in a Charlotte hospital. He leaves his fiancée and four children, three of his own, and the forever wonder of what might have been. That's always the question the young leave us with. Said Brown, "He was starting to blossom.''
It was Brown who proclaimed himself "a redeemer'' and re-signed Henry in August 2008, over the public objection of Bengals coach Marvin Lewis. If Henry were a symbol of all that was wrong with the Bengals between 2006 and 2008, so was Brown, the forgiving owner prone to social work with miscreant players.
Henry wasn't the first player to whom Brown had thrown a rope; he was just the most visible. If you needed a photo of Chris Henry, you browsed the police blotter first, then the team media guide. Drug charges, gun possession, DUI, drinking with underaged girls in a northern Kentucky hotel room. Pretty much the whole bad-boy catalog.
Wasn't that Chris Henry who waved a gun at a police officer on a crowded Orlando, Fla., street a few years ago?
Yes, it was.
The Bengals released him in April '08, after his fifth arrest in 28 months. That time, Henry was charged with assault and criminal damaging, for breaking a car windshield during an argument on a downtown Cincinnati street. That time, he didn't do it. The man who did didn't come clean until the investigation made it obvious. That was after a local judge referred to Henry as "a one-man crime wave.''
Henry's story was not that much different from those of many young NFL players: Talented kid leaves college, drafted highly (3rd round, 2005), gets more money than he's ever seen, hooks up with people he thinks are friends, starts doing stupid, illegal things, believes he'll never get caught.
After Hurricane Katrina destroyed Henry's family home in suburban New Orleans, his extended family came to live with him in Cincinnati. He supported them all. He also ran with some of them. They ran astray.
"Chris could never figure out that some of these people were dragging him down,'' Lewis said. Henry wasn't a bad guy, in the malicious sense. Just very easily led. Then came the charges in April '08, when none of his buddies had his back and Henry realized, as Lewis put it, "these people are not here for my benefit. He distanced himself from [them]. That's when his whole life, his whole career, turned around.''
Henry ditched the hurtful friends, met his fiancée and began the business of career rehab. By all accounts, he was serious. The cure was ongoing. "He was going to have the future we all wanted for him, and he wanted for himself'' was how Mike Brown put it Thursday.
The few teammates present in the Bengals' dressing room Thursday said only nice things. Henry, they said, was kind, gentle, soft-spoken. The teammate they knew in the past two years was not a thug or a criminal or the poster-guy for all that ails the NFL's image. "Heavily misunderstood,'' Carson Palmer called Henry.
"He wasn't the Chris of his rookie year or second year,'' said guard Bobbie Williams. "Chris was responsible, dependable, loved football. He had made the changes he needed to make.''
Henry was always a home-run hitter on the field. He averaged 13.6 yards a reception as a rookie in '05; the following year, the average was 16.8 yards on 36 catches, including nine touchdowns. Before he broke his arm this year against Baltimore on Nov. 8, Henry had 12 catches for almost 20 yards a catch, and two TDs.
The Bengals likened him to Randy Moss, a 6-foot-4 leaper with speed to get deep. Even when Henry wasn't catching a lot of passes, he was stretching the field for Chad Ochocinco and Laveranues Coles. Palmer marveled at Henry's potential.
He was starting to figure things out when he died. His career was a partially opened package. There will be a cause of death. But not a reason. The Bengals didn't give up on Chris Henry. Henry didn't give up on himself. Maybe that's the lesson, if you're looking.
"Hearts ache around here,'' Bobbie Williams decided.

CHARLOTTE — In the last conscious moments of Chris Henry's life, the Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver begged the woman who has been credited for helping turn his life around to stop so they could talk or he would kill himself, a witness said.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police verified that a domestic dispute jump-started the turn of events that led to fatal injuries Henry sustained after falling from a moving pickup Wednesday. Henry, who had a troubled past, was on medical leave visiting with his fiancée Loleini Tonga's family when the fight began Wednesday afternoon.

They were to be wed in March.

Tonga's neighbor, Lee Hardy, was perched on a 15-foot ladder cutting back some trees when he saw the yellow pickup "zooming" up the Tongas' gravel driveway just a few yards away.

Hardy said a shirtless black man clung to the top and side of the truck while standing in the bed, begging her to stop the vehicle.

"He was banging on the top, on the doors, screaming at the lady, 'We need to talk,'" Hardy said. "He said, 'If you take off, I'm going to jump off the truck and kill myself.'"

Hardy said she stopped, hesitating at the end of the driveway, and took off.

Soon afterward, emergency dispatchers got at least two calls to 911.

One came from a woman driving behind the truck.

"I'm driving behind a yellow F-150, there's a black man on it with no shirt, he's got his arm in a cast," the woman said. "He's beating on the truck … I don't know if he's trying to break in it or something crazy."

Then this call: "I need an ambulance now," a man said when he called dispatch. "There's a man laying in the road … he looks dead, there's no movement."

The caller went on to tell dispatchers that a crowd of people were standing around Henry. Someone was taking his pulse.

The spot where Henry hit the pavement was just a half-mile from the Tonga family home. According to police, Tonga stopped immediately and rushed to his side.

"She pulled the vehicle over to get out and help," said Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officer Rosalyn Harrington.

No charges were filed Thursday by police in connection with the incident.

"Even though this is a high-profile case, we are treating it like any other case in Charlotte," Harrington said.

About 6:30 a.m. Thursday, after hours of hoping and praying by family, friends and fans for a miraculous recovery, Henry died at Carolinas Medical Center south of downtown Charlotte.

He left behind three children. He and Tonga had two children together, Chris Jr., 2, and DeMarcus, 1.

Few details of the police investigation have been released. As reporters flocked to Charlotte, neighbors of the Tonga family watched the circus unfold outside their front doors.

Hardy said the Tongas have been great neighbors, occupying three properties that surround his. The Tongas' son often mows his grass without being asked, he said.

He and other neighbors mention that the family has held large luaus at their home, which they attended – with roasting pigs and hula dancing.

"They came and got my girls for trick-or-treat and a big Easter egg hunt," said Jamie Dunn, who is friends with Loleini Tonga's sister and lives across the street.

"They are just a really friendly family," Dunn said.

Neither the Tongas nor the Henrys have released statements to The Enquirer since Henry died. Henry's agent, David Lee, said they are devastated by his death.

The injuries he sustained are a mystery at this point. Hospital officials would not even say Henry had been treated there Wednesday.

According to an investigator with the local medical examiner in Charlotte, Henry's body had not been received by their office or the morgue at by mid-day Thursday. She was not sure if it would arrive Thursday night.

Once the body is received preliminary details like cause of death may be available as soon as Friday, she said.

Witness accounts claim he was threatening to kill himself if she didn't stop and talk with him...while hanging on her truck and banging in it...with a cast on his arm and no shirt on.

His dumb actions led to the end of his life.

Doesn't mean he deserved it...and his past transgressions don't make it any less tragic...anytime a 26 year old dies, there's some serious sadness there.

I believe the story. Yeah he over-reacted and killed himself over it. It is truly tragic and I feel extremely bad.

Has no one on this board ever been in volatile argument with a loved one and done something really stupid ? Seems football players/celebrities are especially prone to 'superman' syndrome where they think they can do anything. Clearly he loved her, they were engaged. They had children together. He went about solving his problem the wrong way and paid for it with his life. That makes me sad. He is with God now.

I agree, Eve, I'm sure we've all said or done something we wish we could take back during an argument.

Exactly. Let he without sin cast the first stones. All of us have done really stupid things, and when love is involved, usually the stupidity is multiplied by 10. I certainly have over-reacted, jumped to conclusions, and acted like a complete idiot on many occasions when emotions run high. It is part of human nature, and that part is stronger in some people more than others.

Lots of times you say and do things when you are mad that can't be taken back.

I have been married for 36 years and I have had my share of spats with the better half.It's all part of being married.You just have to know where to draw the line and just leave the house for a few hours till things cool off.

I keep thinking if I would have shot her when I wanted to,I would be out by now.Just kidding.

All joking aside,physical violence will never solve anything.You will never agree on everything but with the wife and I we agree that we disagree and leave it at that.

When you start getting stupid,that's when things like this happen.Someone pays the price.He should have just let her leave and talked about it later when everyone calmed down.
