"I like Eric Mangini"

Then basically says I'd fire him if I were in charge.

The thing he likes the most about Cleveland is the owner.

How is that for irony considering everything I've read on these message boards

BEREA, Ohio -- The Cleveland Browns could get word from Mike Holmgren on the radio.

The Super Bowl-winning coach is scheduled to appear on Seattle's KJR on Friday, when he may announce his future plans. Holmgren spent two days earlier this week meeting with Cleveland owner Randy Lerner, who wants the former Seattle and Green Bay coach to run his team's football operations.

Lerner is seeking a "serious, credible leader" to take over his struggling franchise's front office and has targeted Holmgren, who served as the Seahawks coach and general manager for four years.

AFC North blog

Walker ESPN.com's James Walker writes about all things AFC North in his division blog.

• Blog network: NFL Nation

The 61-year-old Holmgren spent Monday and Tuesday in Cleveland with his agent, but left without accepting a deal, fueling speculation that he may want to weigh other options. One of them could be returning to the Seahawks, who have yet to begin their formal search for a general manager and may or may not have interest in bringing Holmgren back.

On Thursday, the Browns said they have not discussed salary with Holmgren, who made $7 million last season as Seattle's coach.

Browns coach Eric Mangini's fate could be tied to Holmgren or whomever Lerner hires.

To this point, Mangini's first season in Cleveland has not gone well and he could be fighting for his job over the final three weeks. Mangini, who was fired after last season by the New York Jets, is confident that he has made progress with the Browns, who take a 2-11 record into Sunday's game at Kansas City.

"I've been a head coach for four years now -- different places, different experiences, different players," he said. "I feel good about the things that I've done in that role and there's a body of work there. Each situation is different. Anybody that comes in can evaluate that. I feel really good about the things that I've done in this role. Has it always produced the results that you wanted? No, because the goal is to win every game.

"You make decisions as you go and you continue to improve and progress."

Mangini and Holmgren have known each other for a few years, and they got a chance to get reacquainted during Holmgren's visit this week. Mangini would not say if he wanted Holmgren to accept Cleveland's front-office job.

"I don't want to get into that component of it," he said. "What I will say is, I want someone to come here that can help us improve, that can be part of giving the city of Cleveland what they deserve, which is a consistent winner year in and year out and a team that they can be proud of on the field and off the field. That's what I believe in."

he is on 950 KJR right now if you find the online stream. I am listening to it but I am not sure if I can send the link to the stream on this board.

Not a fan of the word Czar.. doesn't like it.....

Went for a ride, Looked at houses. In the Cleveland area on Tuesday!

No Money talked about.. Just a getting to know each other...

Wonderful trip, great people, great owner,, lots of work to do...

He had a pretty good feeling when he left... The owner is an honest man,, he liked everything he heard and thinks he's got a good chance to get the job..

The Structure is somethimng he's still thinking about., not sure how he'd structure the FO.

Timetable: Wanted to talk some foks about it... (I'm guessing family)

Wants to have his situation resolved sooner rather than later..

Mangini discussion.... It would be unfair for him to discuss it.. He likes mangini, works hard yada yada... He thinks everyone needs a chance..

Mentioned that Parcells made a change in one year, but having been a coach,, it's not fair.... to change coachs after 1 year.

Why the timetable,, fairness to thier (browns) organization... about as good a situation as you can ask for. He says he's not playing teams off each other.

Biggest attraction for him is Ownership... the owner wants the team to play well and do well for the city.... Genuine guy..

No layers between him and Randy... Very appealing.

Quinn.... He hasn't watched him very much,,,,, Anderson he knows more about. Bad to juggle two guys.. bad for the guys, bad for the team... and the Browns have done that..

By the third year, if the guy has played,, you know what you have... QUinn hasn't played enough to know. He'd have to study it more.. much more.

Family: Wife Kathy... how would it work? They've been talking about nothing else for the last couple of days... He makes the decision, but he involves her in the decision... His wife has to go with him,, where he goes, she goes or they don't go..

Times change, life changes,, they can fly to whereever they want to go... they'd miss the kids and grandkids.. but they'll make it work..

Commercial,, Next up,, discussion of Shanahan and DC and the Seattle job.

Well, some pretty good stuff.

Loves Randy Lerner.

Danced around Mangini and Quinn.

Says rebuilding is in his blood, loves to rebuild teams.

He'd only answer to Randy Lerner.

All he has been discussion the past few days was about the family situation.

Sounded pretty positive to me. Oh, there is also a timetable on the decision and Holmgren said he wanted to settle it soon. I'm sure there will be an article up soon.

So did anyone else come away thinking Randy would let him do whatever he wants? President, GM or coach? He said it was all open to him and an incredible opportunity.

Seems like a shot against Seattle.

Sounds like Cleveland is the more fitting gig for Mike.

Any other teams contact you......YES.. won't say more..

Damn,,competition........:(

Seattle: He hasn't been told he's out in Seattle...

But who knows! They are going to a process and they intend to look at some people.. But nobodys said no to him for Seattle..

There is a time crunch.... with cleveland and others...

He didn't campaign for the seattle job.. but it's not a secret that he'd love to be considered for a position with the seahawks..

Organization have to do what they have to do and sometimes your not included.. and you just have to live with it.. he'll wish them well..

It's a business.. do the best job you can do and let the chips fall where they may..

Break time again..

AHh, that's right,, it was reported they contacted him and he declined to interview...

We gotta come up with a list of places that may have contacted him for either GM or Coaching jobs....

I've gotta say this... this man is so damned articulate, direct and honest.. Ya know, he's exactly what we need here.. Damn,,,

Back,, last segment.....

announcers talking... one has a sliver of hope he may still be here .. no much.. sounds like these guys aren't happy it isn't a done deal with Seattle..

Lots of respect for Holmgren.. Oh man,, the Hawks are gonna get lots of run from the media and fans if they don't get holmgren.....

Damn,, holmgren is a funny guy.. good sense of humor...

Man he hates CZAR.... lol

He likes Locker, thinks he needs that extra year...

He had to run because of a conference call..... could it be RANDY..

The end

It sure sounds like he's leaning towards a job with Cleveland...but he seems to also really want the job with the Hawks if they were willing to give it to him.

It sounded like a goodbye to Seattle on the radio...but who knows. After listening to Holmgren...I will be really disappointed if he doesn't come here.
