Just got back from the midnight release. Must see. One of the most amazing movies I've ever seen. The world was completely immersive, the storyline held together well, and I believe James Cameron should be proud of his work. Two thumbs way up.

P.S. I saw it in 3D and it was awesome.

The commercials kind of remind me of Starship Troopers.

So did you see it in standard or imax 3d? I'm trying to decide which to go see. standard would be easy and close by. Imax is on the other side of the city from me, so I guess to anyone who see it in the next 24 hours. is 3D worth the extra hastle.

Did the 3D bug your eyes or give you a headache? I look at the battle scenes in the previews and think "THAT is in 3D????"

I keep hearing the character development and heart isn't there like in past Cameron flicks. That's a bit disappointing to hear, but I'll still see it in the theater for the visual experience.

The 3D wasn't bad at all. I'd suggest seeing it in iMax because the world(Pandora is what it's called) has so much to offer, I think it would be an awesome sight in iMax)

No Imax theater's within 100 miles of me, so I'll have to see it in regular next week. Our 1 screen theater is showing 2012 this week....

Just got back from it.

This isn't a movie, it's an event, an experience. I'm actually pretty well blown away by how immersive it is.
Some of the story is quite predictable, but hey... it's Hollywood.

Saw it, not in 3D, but stunning and cool. Quite an allegory, and a nice mix of popular culture, cutting sci-fi, and great visuals. May well be a new cash cow. Certainly a spectacle and fine work and incredibly immersive detail I loved ita lot. Get the big popcorn!

Wow... I'm amazed at how many people are coming back from this movie impressed (not just on this site, others as well). The trailers look like complete crap. I just might give it a try afterall...

Agreed. While watching it, I thought to myself "I will always remember seeing this movie for the first time" So unique and immersive. It's got something like 90% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes.

I thought the commercials sucked, too. I thought that they looked too CGI-y.... go see the 3D... it's not even close to the commercials and it doesn't look like a bunch of overdone CGI..... actually - and I *hate* hyperbole... it is the most impressive bit of CGI I have ever seen. It's just... amazing.

I have my 58" plasma and my 3D glasses, I'll wait for the blu-ray.

I have had no desire to see this at all for the same reasons as Yep outlined, but because of your review, I just might go and check it out.

But from the previews, I can't even tell what it's about. Just looks like a bunch of random animation to me.

Unless you have a TV capable of displaying 3-D (Not likely) it wouldn't be the same 3-D experience... Modern 3D is much more than the old style....

Call me odd, I haven't seen this movie yet, but I had a dream I was in it last night.

Yup....I thought it was great too. I didn't expect much and came away surprised. The plot was a bit of copy from a few other movies we've all seen before. Don't use that as an excuse for not seeing it in the theraters. It's worth dough I spent ($14 each ticket) to see it in 3-D.

I'd probably give it 4.5 out of 5 stars. If I couldn't give half stars, I'd need to see it again on DVD/Bluray to better decide which way my rating would move. Right now, maybe 5....but who knows how much influence the movie therater and 3-D experience added to the rating.

While in the breakroom at work one of the ladies I work with was talking about Avatar. She is 70 years old and her exact words were "Best movie I've EVER seen." Then she told everyone that it is well worth paying the price to see it at the theatre.

I've used the term "mind blowing" for a BUNCH of movies over the years. Jurassic Park, The Matrix (first one only), The Lord of the Rings trilogy, etc. . . .

I take it all back. Those movies were great but only Avatar is truly mind blowing.

There was PLENTY of stereotypical corniness to go around, especially the banter of the scientists, marines, and one heartless corporate type at the beginning. And of course, its not the most original plot. It is VERY similar to that of Dances With Wolves.

But once you are thrown into that alien world. Oh my LORD, it is amazing. It is real. You are there. It sounds oh so corny and cliched, but it's like magic instead of technology that you are looking at.

Everybody should go see this in 3D. It is breathtaking. And I saw it on a normal screen because the IMAX showing was sold out. I'll see it again on an IMAX screen in a couple weeks when my dad is in town and the crowds will be thinned out a bit.

AMAZING . . .

Saw it for the 2nd time this past Saturday with my other brother and my nephews. I'm very much looking forward to it hitting the IMAX here in Cleveland.

Do you know when it'll hit IMAX? I'd love to see it on the IMAX screen, would be way cool.

I just checked their schedule... there's not even a blip about it. They have three other movies showing clear through January.
February would be the absolute earliest.. after the Oscars would be my bet.

You can see it on an IMAX screen in Columbus now. Just checked movietickets.com and it really isn't available in that format in the Cleveland area. What's up w/ that???
