"We are pleased to announce that Mike Holmgren has agreed to join the Cleveland Browns," owner Randy Lerner said in a statement. "We will spend the rest of the week finalizing the details of the agreement."
YES....
YES, YES, YES...
Merry Christmas Browns fans...thank you Randy Lerner
I believe the Browns struck the right note in keeping the announcement low key, thus not raining on anyone parade and successes related to the Browns two game winning streak.
The part about finalizing the details does leave room for speculation but the main news here is, Mike Holmgren is a Cleveland Brown.

I would love for nothing more than to dance and be merry but honestly, I'd like to see some results before I go all willy-nilly. I thought we had it right with Policy I thought we had a coach in Davis I thought we made the right move with Savage I thought we did right by getting Crennel . . . Here's to hoping Holmgren does for us what he did for Seattle! . . . Here's to success in Browns 3.0!

great news....let's right this ship going into the '10 draft and put a team on the field that we can be proud of. It's been far too long.

Holmgren can now make his mark on the game by taking his third team to the super bowl and his second team that had never been before he came. Okay, unlike bluecollar, I'm willing to go a little willy-nilly.

Good deal. Not a huge Holmgren fan, but this puts us on the right track. He's been a winner everywhere he's been.
Today is a good day for Browns' fans.

Considering it's been 10 years and we still haven't found our franchise quarterback, this fills me with a lot of optimism... at least in regards to that position.
I also hope this really motivates the players to perform at their highest. I've love to see us finish with 2 more wins and hang onto Mangini through next year. I like the discipline and work ethic his team plays with.

Well..Rac flipped a coin and couldn't determine which one to call..Manpolen doesn't know head from tails but Holmgren can flip it,call it in the air and get this train wreak upright... I will say Heckert was my choice but I give Lerner props for identifying the target and going out to get him..

I only have one question in all of this... what the heck happened to the "Lerner doesn't care" crowd? They disappeared faster than a Bengals fan in January.

Oh he cares and you know how? He took himself out of the football equation!
The one guy who couldn't get things right and now he need not worry about it.
I'm certain nobody is happier and more relieved than himself!

So what does the president do? Is that the same position Parcells has in Miami?

j/c... This is outstanding news. Great to see a proven winner with respect and credibility come in to take over the Browns and get this ship righted. This should be a very interesting offseason. Go Browns

Nice response.
I think I've detailed a lot more than just not caring.
Hey, he made it happen. I appreciate that. I'm not eating crow.
I hope he continues to do things that make it appear that we are going to be a first class, professional football organization. Randy, thank you, and... your father should have hired Holmgren's NFL mentor in 99. If so, we wouldn't have had to put up with much of what we've endured the past decade.
Now, to get away from the drama, I bet that Holmgren does a complete rebuild. Read "The Genius" and the suspicion is that he will do it much the way Walsh did it with the 49's. JMHO

I think he's the guy that will hire the GM, make the final say on the coach, and make sure both guys follow the direction he dictates. Essentially, he's calling ALL of the shots about everything on the football side. So maybe the coach and GM are his puppets but....maybe having a clear man in charge will help this team.
This mean Randy won't need to be in a single football side meeting. It's The Big Show's show from here on out.

Oh for cryin out loud,,, with all due respect Olskool
The ENTIRE argument about lerner not being a good owner is garbage..
TOTAL GARBAGE....
He hasn't done anything that every NFL Team Owner hasn't done before.. He's made mistakes,, THEY all have... and they all will again.. count on it.
it's like telling me a pastry chef isn't any good before the damn cake finished baking..
