http://news.yahoo.com/video/health-15749655/inside-the-obamas-winter-white-house-17278813$4000 per night. For 2 weeks. They flew in a Christmas tree for them - that's a nice touch. Our president rented the 2 homes beside this one for friends and family. Let's see - at $4 grand per night, for 2 weeks - that's $56,000 - which doesn't even include the other 2 houses. If I'm not mistaken, the pres. makes $400,000 per year. He used over 1/8 of his gross income for a 2 week vacation. (actually, more than that, because of the other 2 houses rented) Won't even mention the cost of flying Airforce One their - or Marine One........... Obama does need to pay for this out of his pocket, right? This isn't a taxpayer thing, is it?

Keep in mind he lived in Hawaii and has family there so it's not like he's going there just for fun, he's going to see his family. As for the price, his net worth is over $1 million so I'm pretty sure he can afford the vacation. George W. Bush spent nearly 900 days on vacation in his 8 years as President link so why is a 2 week vacation that upsetting?

I understand that "high up" people take more vacations than I do............heck, I expect them to.
My biggest question is: Is this coming out of his pocket, or mine?
If it's mine, somebody has "some 'splainin to do. I have a chance to go skiing this year - again. With my family. All paid for by mom and dad. But it's during the week I'm usually busiest with my work. Plus, my wife can't get off work until friday morning...which would give us a 6 hour drive after she sleeps for a few hours....which puts us there at 5 in the evening or so. No skiing on New Years eve day. So, we could ski on New Years day. On sunday, we still have a 6 hour drive home, so at best we could ski for a couple of hours. At best. My wife, on sundays, takes a nap in the evening so she can work all night.
As of now, we're not going. Too much drive time for too little ski time.
I hope I'm not paying O's vacation expenses. With all the other things he wants me to pay for, I'm about ready to give up.

Can you name me one person from his family that lives there? I know he spent time there as a child - but exactly what "family" does he have there?
Thanks.

It's not a simple 2 week vacation that is upsetting. Not at all.
Ah, back to the "Bush did it, so .....". According to your numbers, Bush spent 1/3 of his time on "vacation". Fine. Lemme ask you this, since you're so concerned about Bush: Where was his "vacation" time spent? Camp David? His home in Texas?
Where has O's vacation time been spent? Oh, and Bush has a fair amount of wealth also........so why wouldn't he be able to afford it when he did it? According to your requirements, that is.

My house is 3 miles away from where they're staying. It's on a country club where Obama has rented out the entire course for the day for himself and many other politicians to play on Christmas day.
And I have a friend renting his house out to members of the secret service for $3k a night. They're probably spending a total of about $30k a night with 8 different homes.
They're doing it up big time.

Interesting. So the costs go up and up.......
I'd still like to see where O is paying, out of his pocket, the $56,000 rental for the home he'll be staying in.
After all, for those that want to bash Bush.......he spent his time at Camp David - his house in Texas, or family owned properties. He didn't bill the taxpayers for most of his "getaways"........do congress people get to bill the taxpayers for them taking a trip to their own house? Nah - and Bush didn't either.
And when you go to a gov't. owned place -.....well, that's a touch different than billing the taxpayers for your $56,000 rent.
Unless O is stroking a check for it.....and even if the homeowner is giving it to him for free, ol' O is still on the hook for taxes on $56,000.
So, can anyone tell me - is O paying for it out of his pocket? Or is he just paying roughly 35% in taxes?

I know that he lived there with his grandparents for a number of years but other than that I'm not sure. I guess that was an assumption on my end, but I think it's fair to say that he has a number of friends there and Hawaii is his "home" so to speak.

I'm not concerned about where either one of them take vacations personally. I wasn't mad at Bush for taking vacations and I'm not mad at Obama because they can get plenty of work done outside of the White House. The point was to show that taking vacations is commonplace with Presidents so it's not like Obama is doing something no one else has ever done. They both spent vacations in places they consider "home" so it doesn't matter if it's Texas or Hawai'i..it's still their home.
As for who paid for the vacation, beats the hell out of me, and I have no desire to look it up since pretty much every President ever has taken plenty of vacations and I'm sure most of them were on the taxpayers dime.

Wrong answer.
Of course, the other side of that is "why aren't people concerned with a waste of taxpayer money like this?"......and the only answer would be "cause it's Obama - who cares?".

Yes this is "upsetting". No more upsetting than any other president's vacation though... THe political system is a joke. No point at pointing at one party when they both suck.

The Obama's made most of their money on the sale of books. Last time I remember seeing the numbers, it was over 3 million in a year.
Not as a state, or US senator, or lawyer, but as an author, he has done well, which is the route that Sarah has followed.

If "one" hates Obama, they are likely to "nitpick" everything he does.
Arch...Just fess up, your a bitter GOPer who hates having Obama in the White House and you don't care if your "petty" or not, your gonna show your ___ to everyone.
BTW, do "you" have a clue as to how many security personnel travel with the President and his family?
Also, how many vacation days did our last pres. take off?

Good, the Obama's needed a nice vacation. Maintaining that three times a week television appearance schedule they've had over the last 11 months has probably taken a lot out of them.

Yes, I would guess that if "one" hates anybody, or anything, they are likely to nitpick. However, first of all, I don't hate Obama. What I do dislike is his policies. There is a difference there, mac.

Bitter GOPer? Hardly, mac. Bitter about who's in the white house? No. Upset at the amazing spending he has done/said had to be done "immediately or else"? Yes. Very. You see, mac, there's a difference between not liking someone, and not liking their policies. Just because I feel one way doesn't make me a bitter person at all. Throw the D or R denotation out the window - I don't care about that.

"I" have a clue - my guess is not many people know for sure though. Tell me again why that matters?

Somewhere around 900 I believe. Federally owned camp david (which is set up, security wise, for presidents and all that goes with it......to his home, or to a family members home. Also, lets say you had a job - worked monday through friday. And you got 2 weeks of vacation time each year. I could say, and be correct, that you had 912 days of vacation over 8 years. (2 days per week - sat, sunday, 52 weeks a year, 8 years, plus 10 days a year for 8 years........
Let me spell it out for you mac - let me be clear: I don't care that Obama and his family are taking 2 weeks of vacation. He's the president. I don't care. It's the money being spent.

No, sir - you are exposing YOURSELF more than anything. And it's irony at the utmost.

I believe some of us who didn't even vote for Obama are willing to give him a pass until he too starts a war for no good reason. Plus while I don't care for the taxpayer portion of what is being spent there in Hawaii, in comparison to the daily cost of establishing an Islamic Republic there in Iraq, I'll settle for Hawaii.

I would not be in that group. I don't measure the success of a person by whether or not they are better than the absolute worst thing their predecessor did. That, to me, seems like a stupid way to judge anybody and sets the bar awfully low.
But by your standards, the next guy that comes into office will get a pass until he does something worse than print billions of dollars in new money thus deflating our currency and risking creating hyperinflation..... as long as he doesn't do THAT, then he gets a pass? That's insane. Of course Obama did that in just his first year so I guess even he still has time to out-do himself.
Obama is the President, he gets no passes from me because of anything Bush did. Bush made his mistakes, Bush got raked over the coals for his mistakes many times.. it's Obama's turn and his actions need to be judged on their merit, not on a sliding scale of things other President's have done that were stupid.

And it's not me making this about Obama - it's me making it about MONEY. Just so happens Obama's name is involved.
Bush and his vacations at his home, or Camp David, or Kennebunkport (where his family owns a home) has nothing to do with this.
And please, if you'll read, I have no problem with a president taking a vacation. None whatsoever. Chill dude - leave the flotsam of your history and my history at the door - read what I'm saying. This is the highest spending president yet - his spending apparently knows no limits.
Call me an O hater. Call me a GOP lover. Both would be wrong, but who cares, right?
When our taxes go up next year - you work, right? (I know you do), and we pay for 4 years before anyone sees ANY benefit from this "must have by Christmas" health "reform"......what are you going to say? Pay for 4 years before anyone sees anything? That's a good thing?
O and his Hawaiin vacation - and he has no family there, so everyone can drop the "he's going to see family" crap........Bush took a lot of vacation - to his dang home, or to a family members home, or to a gov't. owned camp. O has been to camp david - and Hawaii, and New York for a "date night"
This guy hasn't lived up to anything he campaigned on. Not a thing. He's presided over raising our debt limit to, what, now $14 trillion dollars?????
Barack the man is, I'm sure, a great guy. Barack the president is a huge spending liar. I'm sure.
Wait till you get your tax bill. And wait till you see what is "covered" and what isn't. Perhaps I'm wrong, and if so, you know me well enough to know I'll admit it - but if I'm not wrong?????

Yeah hyperinflation. Now there is where politicians pay the price for their financial follies. $4 a gallon gasoline prices and costs going through the roof at grocery stores certainly moved the people to boot Republicans out of the driver's seat in the 2006 Congressional elections. Yes, hyperinflation will get people ticked and we'll substitute one DUI violator for another to place the pedal to the medal down at the federal printing press.
But Hawaiian vacations? Not a chance.

Arch, If you would use some of your energy and look up the information, the Pres and family Pay our of their own pockets for the vacation rental. The flight on Air Force One is covered by the taxpayers. Just like every other Presidents vacation trips. Secret Service is covered by taxes but then again, they protect the President and Family 24/7. Again, that service is done for every President. Also there is a travel budget for the President/White house.
So there is your answer! Unless you are trying to say that the President or just this President does not deserve time off at Christmas???

Wrong. Again. I did. And it seems you still are.
You just don't pay attention do you.. I think presidents NEED that time away..
The Obama family vacations in Hawaii every year.. what makes this year any different.. His Grandmother lived in Hawaii for many many years.. so please, check your facts.. and yeah, I know, she died...
One last thing and then I'm outta this conversation.. Every Pres works 24/7 they always do, they are never without the "football" they are never without staff.. Be it in Washington or Hawaii..
Yeah, I do think you hate Obama, you can try and say you don't all you want, but you do hate him.. I'm not certain if it's that you just disagree with his policies or if there is some other issue....
Oh,, as for money,, Let's look at W.. vacation on his ranch in Texas.. Not as far as Hawaii, but miles and hotel costs are the only difference... Still gotta use AF1, still gotta have protection, still gotta have all the same things and people that Obama needs around him.
The only way anyone thinks this is a legit complaint is if they just hate Obama..
Having said that, I wanna wish you a Merry Christmas... and I really do mean that Arch.....

Yeah, I do think you hate Obama, you can try and say you don't all you want, but you do hate him.. I'm not certain if it's that you just disagree with his policies or if there is some other issue....
Interesting......I've explained my feelings. And then you pull this "this is my last post and I'm outta here" thing.....and your last post says "......or there is some other issue.".
That's a cheap shot. A shot that should be beneath you, but obviously isn't. Especially since I laid out exactly why I feel like I do. You call it hatred of O. It is NOT, but I'd rather you say that than insinuate what you did.
Either way, have a good day. I don't expect an apology from you for your insinuation. I know you better than that.

Keep in mind that is where he was supposedly born...except those in another country that claims he was born in their town.
I don't see an issue with this at all. And I didn't vote for the guy.
We foot the bill because he has use of a secure flight and a security force. For those griping about paying for it, would you rather the guy on an American Airlines flight?
And I doubt he actually pays a dime. He probably has a few campaign friends with him that do more than foot the bill.
We are looking at such a small amount of money compared to how our debt is growing. Keeping this country from spending itself out of existence is a far bigger issue than him visiting where he lived after he was born.

President Obama....he goes to the state that gave his American birth legitimacy....which I say with a wink since I don't believe the guy is actually legal to be President

He got the majority of votes no doubt, but there is no doubt the majority of people in this country are stupid or misguided.
With that first quote, you truly proved your second quote!!...

At least I didn't open the question of why a Muslim is celebrating Christmas in the first place.
