With that.. lets get back to the point.. I'm pretty sure you said (somewhere in the last couple weeks) you don't want a QB taken in the first round BUT.. you could see Phil's thinking to take one if no one else he wants is there AND he can't trade down. So would YOU rather we pick a BQ or Russell with our first or trade our 3rd for Carr and use the first pick elsewhere ? I'm just trying to figure out if you think a rookie QB (one of these) taken in the first round is a better choice than Carr for a 3rd rounder...

I agree with you that would be the lesser of two evils. I also agree that Savage has yet to prove he knows what he is doing when it comes to QBS.

I will get there eventually, but the football knowledge is still accumulating in my brain.

I find myself on the unwanted end of a flip flop from time to time still. It will cease comeday!

I tend to keep my football opinions short and sweet so I don't prove what a moron I really am.

Personally, I think Carr could be the next Drew Bree's but I really doubt they let him walk this year. For JUST that reason.

Carr as a Brown would make Frye look like the back up he is but I really don't see the Texans giving him up at this point. That is unless they could get Quinn or Russell.

And guess what we have a better shot at those two than they do.

Those of you who want Carr might just get him...The two sides are talking. 1st rounders would probably be swapped.

If this goes through and Cleveland does trade for Carr; I fully expect you to make a thread demanding an apology from the FO for ruining your dream of wearing a Troy Smith Cleveland Browns jersey.

Sorry Mav...I know not in your plans as you are a Frye man. I too like Frye but I always liked Carr. I would of course only covet this if Thomas gets taken at #2...hopefully both would develope into NFL QBs Carr n Frye the team could only benefit.

It's cool, Charlie's my guy, but I just want to win some damn games...if Britney Spears can QB us to some wins, I'm cool with it.

Upon further review...

Carr's contract will have us owing him 5.2 mil this year and a cool 6 mil next year.
When you consider Frye makes roughly $500,000 in salary a year and then look at the numbers for each player, the deal just doesnt make sense money wise...That's a steep price to pay for a QB who MIGHT not be better than the QB you already have.

I'd rather use that money on other areas.

I would do a trade and resign...

I think Carr is light-years ahead of Mr. Frye in the talent department

Without that "cagey" veteran qubee to bring em along (where is the wisdom and results in our thinking last season, for example), I back the O-toad on this one. And I like the "Not the Brady Quinn" option VERY much.

what carr has done behind that o line is pretty much amazing, he knows how to take the sack to and is 50% better then frye imo

id take him for a 3rd any day, a starting qb for a 3rd... that thats worth it imo

I see the NFL channel is reporting he is actively being shopped at this time.. Suppose to be in the 2nd to 5th rounder for a trade value.

The NFL Network reports the Houston Texans are shopping QB David Carr. The team is believed to be willing to take from a second- through sixth-round draft pick for him.

That seems to be a little broad range of picks to me. I guess this pretty much says Carr is definetly going to be gone and who ever bids the hightest gets him. Id give up 4th for him.

I would say so.. When it's on the wire with no denial from the club, I would be packing my bags, finding a realtor and checking my air miles...

Toad might get his wish after all.

Texans receiving some inquiries about Carr

GM Smith won't say who has eye on veteran QB

When general manager Rick Smith disclosed Tuesday that teams have inquired about the availability of David Carr, he was quick to point out that Carr is still the Texans' starting quarterback.

While refusing to disclose which teams have called and what was discussed, Smith made it clear that Carr, like just about every Texans player, is available if the GM and coach Gary Kubiak believe it will improve the franchise.

"I want to keep any discussions I have with other general managers confidential," Smith said. "But my goal is to improve our team in any way possible.

"I want to repeat what we said after the season: that David's our starting quarterback. But we're trying to improve the team, and I've fielded some calls about some of our players, including a couple of inquiries asking whether David might be available.

"If I believe improving our team involves a player on our team, a player on another team, a free agent or a draft choice, then I'll absolutely entertain (doing) it."

There has been speculation about a possible Carr trade since the second half of last season. In his five years, the Texans are 23-53 in games in which Carr has played.

If the Texans trade or release Carr, who is scheduled to make $5.5 million this year and $6 million next year, the salary cap hit would be only $2 million.

The Texans paid Carr $8 million last March to extend his contract for three years. His base salary in 2006 was $5.25 million.

The Texans made the decision to extend Carr for three years early enough to prorate the $8 million bonus over four years rather than three — $2 million per year for cap purposes.

Under a new rule, teams can designate two players as June 1 casualties without waiting until June 1 to trade or waive them. If Carr is designated as a June 1 player, he'll cost $2 million this year and $2 million in 2008 against the cap.

In all likelihood, any team interested in trading for Carr would want to negotiate a more cap-friendly deal. In other words, it would ask agent Mike Sullivan for a longer deal with a signing bonus and smaller base salaries.

Minnesota and Oakland are two teams in need of a quarterback. Other teams that might be interested in trading for or signing a veteran quarterback could be Miami, Cleveland, Kansas City, Jacksonville, Chicago and Carolina.

Is there a market for Carr? The top free agents, Jeff Garcia and Damon Huard, turn 37 and 34 before the season begins. Carr turns 28 in July.

After projected first-round draftees JaMarcus Russell and Brady Quinn, there is a dropoff in quarterback prospects from the college ranks.

Although the Texans have never admitted it, if they trade Carr, they'll have to acquire another veteran to compete with Sage Rosenfels for the starting job. They also are expected to draft a quarterback who fits Kubiak's system and give him time to develop.

The most likely candidate to replace Carr is Denver's Jake Plummer, who was replaced by rookie Jay Cutler after 11 games last season.

Plummer, who turns 33 this year, had the three best seasons of his career when Kubiak was the Broncos' offensive coordinator. Plummer had a 32-11 record as a starter when he played for Kubiak.

Free agency begins March 1. The Texans are expected to have $10 million to $13 million available under the cap.

I don't know much about Carr, so I am not really giving a thumbs up or thumbs down on the deal.....just a thought.

I wonder if a simple swapping of 1st round slots would bring Carr if we decided he is a guy we want?? We drop 4-5 slots to #8 and get Carr...they get our pick.

I guess we would have to wait for the stupid coin flip.....why in the heck don't they just get that done?? Seems you could do it over the phone with Goodel flipping in NY and the interested parties in their own cities. How friggen hard is that??
