Gruden I don't want any part of, but Reid is a great coach. He'd be my #1 choice and it wouldn't even be close.

Can't win when it counts... not that great.

I'd take his .608 winning percentage in a heartbeat. That's 11th all-time.
He's made a winner out of a screwed-up franchise.

I love their drafts. He has a winner's winning percentage. They're loaded with talent. He still sucks at coaching the game when the season is on the line. Let's see if he loses to Dallas three times this season. I'm betting...

He does have a 10-7 playoff record.

Until? Let's hear it... The Championship Game. When the season is on the line and it's time to put up or go home he folds like your grandma's card table after TG dinner.

Have you ever seen Reid?
I hardly think he's capable of "folding"

Lay down then. He can still do that, can't he? Getting up would be the problem.

This discussion border on pure insanity, the Browns have had one winning season in 10 and you think that Andy Reid is a loser because he can't win the big game. The Browns can't even sniff the playoffs, let alone be in the position to win a game. I will take my chances with a winner every year, the more chances you play the more you have a chance to win it. I have liked Philly for years, they do it well, they draft great, and develop their own players.
Welcome back, Joe, we missed you!

I see this kind of thing alot, and you obviously do not watch Philly games on a regular basis. It is a rare day that Andy Reid is outcoached. The Eagles problems in the playoffs, the many playoff games they have been to by the way,, have been 2 big factors. No receivers who make plays during crunch time, and McNabb choking the life out of their offense against playoff caliber defenses. He is a solid, steady, well prepared coach who believes in investing in the lines, both offense and defense. I dont know that their is an active coach in the league who is better than him right now. Maybe Bellichik.

So does that mean that an announcement will come today? Am I reading that right?

"I didn't see where McManamon threw EM under the bus in that article"
Could of sworn I quoted exactly what I read that gave me that impression. Its in the red portion that was found in the article that set me off on that point. Cause really the only positive shown from this team HAS BEEN ITS LAST 4 GAMES...and when I read "it doesn't seem to matter if the coach was Eric Clapton, Eric Mangini or Eric the Red, this team would have competed in each of the 16 games."
and yet most of these players were part of a team that didn't compete in each of the 16 games in 08!!! Sure we changed the roster a bit...but who changed it? Who created the environment in the Locker room...Who created the discipline, character, brotherhood??? The players by themselves? Not Mangini and staff...ok PAT get Eric Clapton here and see the results...
As mentioned just hate on Mangini from a Bozo

Thanks
Given that Mangini left at 5:30 or so last night,, wouldn't talk to the media,,, I'd say yup, he's gone.. Actually, I thought so when I saw that on TV...

Daman...we are getting closer to knowing as I believe Holmgren said he wanted to make a decision by the end of the week. If we are talking work week, tomorrow is Friday.
There will be a lot of speculation as various E-news outfits want to be first to break the news on Mangini, either way it goes.

None of the news reports I saw showed his face from the Front.. just a side few as he drove off.. SO I can't really say one way or the other.

"keep his job when team president Mike Holmgren announces a decision on his future Thursday, Jan. 7."
This soon? First impression tells me he is gone, I thought the longer he's in the house the better off he will be.
Then a little part of me says...whoa, not so fast, what if Holmgren came into the meeting with his mind mostly made up that he has to stay and nothing Mangini stated changed his mind... well I don't really believe that but still wish to.

Well .... if this is the case, then Holmgren better get it right on "his guy" ..... because I think r'd be dumping one hell of a good coach.

If he does dump 'Gini, you should blame Lerner, not Holmgren. It was Lerner who wanted to bring in a Czar to rebuild the football side of the organization, which is exactly what Holmgren is doing.
It's wouldn't be Holmgren's fault if he's doing what he was brought here to do. It just makes too much sense to rebuild with people who do things the way you do and are familiar with the offense that you are.
Mangini built this thing in HIS image. It failed. If he's fired, he has only himself to blame, good coach on the field or otherwise.

To be fair I don't think you can say it failed(nor succeeded) when he didn't get the chance to make it succeed. You....me....and everyone with even just a thimble's worth of football knowledge knows that it was going to take more than one year to turn this team around. Even Mangini's biggest detractors are saying he has the team in better shape than when he first got here.
But as for the rest of your post...I agree 100%
I thought I was wrong once....but I was mistaken...

I don't think one year allows you to make a fair enough assessment as to whether Mangini failed here or not.

To you and Pete, I should have been more detailed. (I just had this conversation with someone in PM, in that I try to be overly-detailed so this type of thing doesn't happen)
With the firing of Kok and Erin whatshername, The regime of Eric Mangini failed. Handing absolute power to him was a failure. It's that failure which brought Holmgren here.
Nobody should have ever expected a one-year turnaround. I don't think any reasonable person did. I'd point to my staunch defense of Mangini's teardown in the face of fans and media criticism as my own personal proof (even though I blasted him for not even trying to sign at least one 1st or 2nd tier free agent). But when it was Mangini's regime which got indicted by Lerner leading to the hiring of Holmgren, then it's fair to say Mangini was a failure.
I always liked what I saw as a coach, even though I think his handling of the QB situation to start the year was beyond idiotic. What I saw as a Grand-Poobah was the epitome of failure.
