Talking now about Cribbs' new deal done. Been working on it since he was still in AZ. Making it sound like the Browns idea of the new deal and the agent's idea are different. Just reminded us that Cribbs is under contract for 3 more years.

Sounds like Mangini decision is going to be made by the end of the week. Also sounds like there might be a number of requests made by Holmgren for Eric to keep his job.

Dang, I don't like to hear that the sides aren't on the same page. Well, far enough to be talking about it to the media. He's crazy important to us and our future. He's the reason we won anything this year. Pay the man!

To be fair, Holmgren also said that he believes that players should get what they deserve.

Of COURSE both sides aren't on the same page ... an agent is prominently involved.

Says EM has a legitimate chance of staying. Also says that if change is necessary, it will be done. If not, it won't.

I think he was short handing it and meant to say "MH is talking about getting a new deal done for Cribbs"

Cribbs still has 3 years left so he's not going anywhere regardless of the deal getting done or not.

Yes, meant new deal "getting" done. Sorry, trying to hurry to keep up! LOL

1100 just cut into the presser and said the rest of what he's going to say isn't important!! Ugh!! Please keep me posted.

I really wanted to hear what he was going to say about what EM has to say in the meeting tomorrow to convince MH to keep him...

- Missed coaching a lot, would like to approach football in different way.

- Excited about possibilities.

- Will make decisions by end of week.

- Wants to hire people, must abide by NFL rules. Will take longer than he wants.

- Wants to get Browns to playoffs, potentially Super Bowl.

- Question: Did you meet with Mangini? Met with Mangini. But wasn't THE meeting. THE meeting will be tomorrow. Doesn't want to blindside Mangini, gave him some things to think about. Wants everyone to think in a like manner.

- Question: Does Eric have legit chance? Absolutely.

- Key to organization is good people.

- Will not coach team this year.

- Ron Wolf said, "I will never give you a player you don't want." Believes that is correct way to work with coach.

- Power groups within organization not healthy.

Remains to be seen. Nothing is guaranteed. This is the man that lost the SB to Cowher. Let's not anoint him the second coming just yet.

There is one thing that kind of stuck out to me throughout the entire presser. He kept mentioning that the little power groups within an organization deteriorates a team.

Well we have heard all year that its Mangini's show, and that he runs so much on and off the field, that Holmgren may not like that, and may want a different coach because of it. Of course none of us fans know if Gini is really the dictator that the media claims him to be, but we will see what Holmgren thinks.

IMO if he and Mangini can get on the same page, with the way the team is heading, considering the turn-around after the win against Pit, with a decent GM, we might actually have a shot at building a dynasty.

After watching this press conference I think Mangini is toast.

I think Holmgren will give him a chance to save his job but he will be have to be 100% blown away with what Mangini has to say. If there is one thing Mangini says or does that Holmgren doesn't like or agree with he's gone.

I think the most telling thing was Holmgren saying, "The goal is to have everyone thinking in a like manner." That makes it seem like he wants to have his people in the organization.

If you've been listening to Mangini at all, they are very much saying the same things. And obviously both want the same things for the team. Mangini getting fired is not a given by any stretch, IMO.

Good recap...that covers the talking points before the same questions started to be asked.

I will add MH said Mangini absolutely has a chance at staying, MH wouldn't just jerk the guy around if he knew he was a gonner...he wants to have a legit conversation....maybe 2, to see if there is any chemistry there or not.

I think Mangini believes in what he says and is proud of what the team has done. I also believe he is a persuasive speaker in that real...keep him or not, I think Holmgren is going to be impressed and at least feel a little bit like he gave the guy a short stick if he lets him go.

If everybody had like minds, we would never learn.

I think the power base and the "check your ego at the door" sort of comments are telling.

Honestly, I think Holmgren will give him the shot but I'm pretty sure he came here thinking he was 100% going to fire Mangini. Mangini's 4 game winning streak is starting to cause doubt, but I think Holmgren is going to need convinced, IMO.

I see why you would think that....but that doesn't really mean EM and MH can't be like minded. I still stand by my odds I gave a few days ago:

60% EM stays as HC
40% Fired by tomorrow night (though that was tonight - moved to tomorrow )

The above recap covers it fairly well, he didn't say a whole lot, because he doesn't have a whole lot to say yet. Far more answers by next Monday.

What I got out of this was the following :

Eric is safe IF he is on board with a TEAM effort. He must be willing to give up or share a lot of the decision making from now on.

Doesn't give a hoot if the coach runs a WCO, 4-3 3-4 as long as it's successful and everyone has the same vision and direction.

Some changes will be coming.

He's NOT meddling in the coaches job this year at all. Won't be on the field instructing, period.

Seems as honest as he can be and is thrilled to get started.

Will he be successful ? Did we strike gold ? Who knows... But this team hasn't had a shot in the arm like this in decades.

if Mangini gets the boot... is there any guy out there with real coaching "talent?"

I'm almost wanting to keep Mangini, but at the same time, if Holmgren wants to bring in his own people to dictate even his own future as the big chief in charge, then bye bye gini.
