What does that exactly mean?

It means that you are old and out-of-touch....

Well, if that's what it is to be young and in touch ...... I've never been so happy to be old and out of touch in my entire life.

Hmm ... Being young and liking rap music means you're clueless?

If being older and not being able name rappers or read in text speak makes you "out of touch" then yes, being young makes you clueless.

When someone says "That's dope", and you don't know what it means, you're out of touch.

Considering "That's dope" is like 1994 speak.

I don't know about rap ...... but the part of the song right after Lennon goes "sh" has to be one of the most iconic sets of drum riffs of all time.

The Bad Meets Evil album titled "Hell- The Sequel" with Eminem and Royce tha 5'9 is excellent. Highly recommended. Em and Royce are great together.

How come no one has answered the question if it is such common standard knowledge for the "in touch" people????

What does it mean?

When I hear "That's dope" I envision someone pointing at weed.

It means "That's a drug that you smoke, like as being in eternal damnation"?

"That's Dope" which was popular in the late 80's early 90's means "That's awesome", "That's the cat's meow", "That's Bitchin" ect.

"That's dope as hell" is an extension of that and is kind of like saying "Wow, that is REALLY awesome."

Wasn't it good enough to just say "That's awesome!" in that everyone can understand plain English?

Only reason I watch videos is hitting them on Youtube, to look for new stuff, then listen to them until I actually get them.

Here is kind of a shocker I learned about Tyler the Creator. He says he is straight edge. It's a whole philosophy that one should have pride and respect for themselves or others I guess. It involves not drinking, smoking, or having sex with someone if there is no true emotional bond. I don't know any other rapper like that.

Frank Ocean has amazing talent.

Straight edge as an ideology was born out of the hardcore punk movement in the early 80s, primarily in DC. It then spread later on to other regions, most notably Boston and NYC/Connecticut, but nationwide, really. Google the lyrics for the songs "Out of Step" and "Straight Edge", both by Minor Threat, to see where the movement got its basic tenets (though not necessarily from the band members themselves, aside from Ian MacKaye).

yea....there is something totally, super-hardcore about following all the rules and not drinking or doing drugs----some serious rebellion happening there.....

Leave it to some punks to try to sell people on the idea that being a square is somehow totally hardcore....

yea...if you can't tell, I think the label straight-edge is stupid. Why don't they just call themselves lame....its much more accurate.

I don't really care about the straight-edge thing or not, but I think it's funny that in the past, the people who called themsevles sXe were the same people telling you about how labels are bad, etc..

I have listened to bands that are straight edge, obviously pro drugs, religious, not religous. I don't really care where you stand on it, just like I don't care about their political views. If it sounds good, I will listen.

Bumping an old thread instead of making a new one.

Who are you guys currently listening to?

Who are some of the 'up and coming' rappers you're listening to?

I set Pandora the other day and listened to Young MC, Sugarhill Gang, Run DMC, Grandmaster Flash, Tone Loc, DJ Jazzy Jeff, and Rob Base.... Not what you meant by up and coming?

Reminded me of when I was 20 again.. then I realized I was drinking Diet Coke and driving 52 mph in the left lane.
