Figured since the other thread was soon to be locked...

Eric Mangini will return for another season as head coach of the Cleveland Browns.

Browns president Mike Holmgren informed the entire Browns coaching staff that they would return for the 2010 season after three days of meetings with Mangini, a team source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

Mangini went 5-11 in his first season with the Browns, who finished with a four-game winning streak.

Holmgren is also interviewing general manager candidates this week. On Wednesday, Eagles GM Tom Heckert visited the Browns. Per league rules, Heckert could not be hired by Cleveland until Philadelphia completes its season.

In addition, Will Lewis, the director of pro personnel for the Seattle Seahawks, will interview for the Cleveland Browns' general manager's job Friday, a source told ESPN.com.

Funny...Adam Schefter was just on my tv screen about ten minutes ago telling me about how it was likely Mangini was gone.

I hope your report here is the accurate one.

I'm ok with it.... I was really 50/50 on the matter so if he gets another year, so be it.

Not pumped that Brian "King of the Bubble Screen" Daboll is back. His playcalling blows.

True, so this is his chance to get better.

As long as he has limited say in the draft and FA, I'm okay with this move.

To me that is the most surprising part. The entire coaching staff. Not just part of it. If that reads correctly we're sticking with Daboll.

As for Gini, I'm glad. I like the culture and principles he's trying to instill in the organization and feel with just better figures in charge of talent acquisition he can certainly succeed.

The 3-4 gets another chance. Make the best of it.

I'm not sure I'd want the HC to have "limited" say, but I wouldn't want the HC having "all" the say.

I think a good team has a lot of equal input from everyone. The key is someone has to have the final say. It seems IMO it's going to be Holmgren or the GM (probably Holmgren).

Wow, I was equally prepared for either scenario, but all the talking heads had me convinced he'd be gone.

Gotta assume everyone's on a tight leash.

The wind in Columbus just picked up w/ Daboll's sigh of relief.

Can't wait to see you next year, Ryan!!!

Hmm... interesting. Perhaps the MOST interesting part about all of this is that the ENTIRE coaching staff is being retained. Apparently, Holmgren is opting for consistency going into next season. I like the call. Let's see if the improvements we saw toward the end of 2009 were real or not.

Now MH can focus on getting his GM and personnel staff in place for FA and the draft. Time to put the drywall up on the frame that was built this past season.

I am ok with Daboll coming back. He was a rookie play caller who improved as the year went on. He realized he didn't have a Qb that could hit an open receiver so he adjusted and we became a power running team. Smart move. With an offseason to review what he did this past season he should improve significantly. Now if we can just give him an average NFL Qb then we will see what he can really do.

Django's head just exploded...

Sorry, couldn't resist.

I'm sure pretty much everyone shares our curiosity/hope that Mangini will continue and build upon the good things that happened at the end of the season. Let's get some upset wins over tough teams next year!

There is no level of sucking we haven't seen; in fact, I'm pretty sure we hold the patents on a few levels of sucking NOBODY had seen until the past few years.

I just do not see the whole coaching staff coming back next year. Daboll doesn't deserve it nor did he earn it.

Whatever. Happy Ryan and Mangini are staying.

This is where it'll get interesting..to see what offense the Browns run, and what type of players are brought in..
EM will have a say what type of players he wants, he won't be touching the draft at all...

Let's wait for the official press conference on all the non-EM coaches. I'm not surprised about EM....little surprised about Daboll though. Maybe those 4 games saved everyone.

WOOOHOOO! Wonder where these talking heads get their info from. I'd say 90% said he was definetly gone. Can't wait to listen to The Really Big Show tomorrow.

At least now we will no for sure if Mangini can coach or not. He's got a good chance now at building something here. I now love Holmgren and am fully on board with whatever he chooses.

This is Hilarious, This particular one right here should be archived.

So Our only hope is that Mangini ages rapidly and decides to do something similar to Urban Mayer, take a leave of absence?

How much ya bet this has some to do with the state of labor relations in the league?
Bengals reaction? Whew
Ravens reaction? could not be reached for comment but Laughing and corks popping were heard over the phone.

Steelers reaction? So?

Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.

What kind of brain power did it take?

Hmm...lessee...I've got a QB that can't hit the wall of a barn from inside a barn. What should I do instead? Punt or run? Hmmmmm....

Not real happy that Daboll will be back.

I don't think Mangini staying is so much Holmgren liking Mangini as much as it is he doesn't like anyone else available this year.

This is a very smart move by Holmgren. He keeps the momentum rolling and gets to see if what we saw in December was an aberration or the start of something good. Most importantly for him, he keeps a number of scapegoats in place that can take the blame if things start to go wrong next year.

In the mean-time, he can take his time setting up the front office the way he wants, and slowly evaluate anyone that might need to be replaced. I think that's much, much smarter than axing everybody and trying to build the players, coaches and front-office from scratch on day one. If things were to go wrong in that instance, he would immediately be feeling the heat.

This is likely going to be a rebuilding year again ... so with the old coaches in place, they are the ones in line to take bullets if the team starts to falter.
