I think with MH... and a good GM....Mangini may have a good year ahead...

I really wonder if behind closed doors MH met with certain players: Cribbs, Thomas, D'Q, Wright; our few playmakers and asked how they felt about Mangini.
If he did, I'm sure that helped sway his opinion a bit.

He's gotta know who the GM is then. From what I gather, Mangini, the GM, and Holmgren will all have input on the draft. Holmgren presides and has ultimate authority and uses it as he sees fit, the GM makes most of the personnel decisions, and Mangini takes care of the x's and o's.
Sound about right?

This is a very smart move by Holmgren. He keeps the momentum rolling and gets to see if what we saw in December was an aberration or the start of something good. Most importantly for him, he keeps a number of scapegoats in place that can take the blame if things start to go wrong next year.
I would agree..plus the HC he may really want isn't available this year..
But EM has survived for one year..

With an offseason to review what he did this past season he should improve significantly. Now if we can just give him an average NFL Qb then we will see what he can really do.
He also adjusted to the no-huddle, something Quinn was better suited for. Plus, I'm sure he could pick up a few tips from Holmgren.

By keeping the whole coaching staff, if the team struggles, Holmgren can say he gave Mangini all the opportunity to succeed. Then he can fire the whole lot without anyone questioning him - including the owner.
If he fires the bunch and keeps Mangini and the team struggles, it would look like Mangini was handcuffed and doomed to fail. There will be people quick to criticize him.
So, if Mangini & Co. fail next year, it buys him an extra year to build up the talent on the team. If Mangini does well, Holmgren looks like a genius.
Basically it's a no lose strategy.

The cleveland.com article says "most" of the coaching staff, not "all." Guess we'll find this out soon enough.
I am still hoping Mangini and Ryan stay and the New GM, MH with involvement of Mangini bring in an establish OC to run a version of the WCO.

Halfway through the season I thought Daboll was about as good as any random drunk at the local bar.. maybe worse, but he improved throughout the year, and btw, he's got a true offensive genius watching him in Holmgren, so I STILL expect improvement from him next year. Who knows, we get a QB that can throw a decent ball and he might surprise some of us.
I like the way Mangini brought in other teams' scraps and turned them into overachievers without all the natural talent of the headcases we let go. I like the discipline he's instilled in the team and it's overall hardworking culture. I also like having Holmgren and his GM on board to assist with player acquistion and to help make decisions and steer the ship WORKING TOGETHER. Mangini would fail if he had to do it alone. Together they can make it work.

Interesting...Heckert leaves after a good interview and cancels a trip to interview with Seattle...Can't be hired yet but sure sounds good for him coming here...He woulda never canceled Seattle if he didn't want Mangini around...

The whole "Heckert doesn't want Mangini" thing was not the problem, IMO.
The problem was that Heckert didn't want to be hired by his head coach. He didn't like the structure and the setup. If Heckert is hired by the president and given a large say on personnel matters, why wouldn't he come to work with the Browns?

Holmgren is essentially saying "what these guys want to do (in terms of philosophy) will indeed work, it's now my job to get them the talent they need."
Kudos to Mike for evaluating the situation. A little continuity / momentum heading in to next season isn't a bad thing.
