Not bad... may as well go back and look for where he said he'd CoachB2 if mangini didn't get fired too lol

Nope, that was whether or not we'd install some form of the WCO.

He's back bc there is going to be a lock out after next season. This was a financial move.

I don't think that's it at all. One, Holmgren couldn't care less about spending Lerner's money. And two, the league remains optimistic that a lockout will be avoided, and I don't think there will be one either.

Not sure how much stock I put in this.

If it is so, Manginis plan must have mirrored Holmgrens enough that if he or someone else should take over the change would be minimal.

Dabol?... Really?...can't be.

Financial move? I highly doubt that. If there is one thing we know, it's that Lerner doesn't care about his money going to unpaid coaches.

STATEMENT FROM BROWNS PRESIDENT MIKE HOLMGREN

"I'm happy to announce that Eric Mangini will return as head coach of the Cleveland Browns in 2010. Over the past few weeks Eric and I have had a chance to talk on a number of occasions including our meetings over the last two days. I was able to gain some tremendous insight into his thought process and philosophies, and came away from our meetings very impressed. In my opinion, Eric has gained the respect and admiration of players, coaches and others in the organization, and with him continuing to lead the team I feel that we are headed in the right direction. Working together, our goal is to build on the strong tradition of this franchise and help get the Browns back to the playoffs."

STATEMENT FROM BROWNS HEAD COACH ERIC MANGINI

"I want to thank Mike for the opportunity to not only meet with him and share my thoughts and vision on what it takes to lead a team, but also to continue what we started here. I believe we made some real, tangible progress throughout the course of the season, culminating with wins in our final four games. I feel as though the culture and mindset that we established this year have laid the foundation for success in 2010 and beyond, and I'm looking forward to working with Mike and a general manager in making this happen."

I just can't seem to get into the groove.
I honestly thought he'd be gone.I've gone from dislike to acceptence, and can see both the benefits and negatives of retaining him.
Daboll,I thought he did a very good job molding the crap pile he was given.I'm glad he's back.
Selig was outstanding, and Ryan was allright.A good coaching staff.

Which would be this statement.

Quote:

It's a lock.

If we're not running the WCO next year, I'll change my name to CoachB II.

Holmgren all-but-said he's going to run the WCO. Paraphrasing, he said he's going to bring an offensive scheme here that he's familiar with.

That doesn't leave much to the imagination when you combine that with the fact he's just brought in a WCO GM......

After I said this

Quote:

And also why is everyone so convinced that we will be running a west coast offense because Mike Holmgren used to run it? I never seen Bill Parcells run a wild cat offense. Holmgren isn't the coach so if he was going to bring in new coaches wouldn't you think he would want the best coaches available regardless of the scheme and bring in players to fit whatever they run?

The season hasn't started yet and theres still a possibility we could switch to the WCO. So we won't make you change your name just yet,

I think two things (in addition to his team finishing strong) saved EM's butt.

Slim pickings that Holmgren would have been content with.

Lerner (I suspect) probably put forward a good stand for Mangini. Lerner likes him, was sold on him, and would love to see him suceed. I'm not saying Holmgren made his decision because of this, but I believe it made the decision a lot easier.

Next year will be interesting.

clicking.
Glad to hear it.
After initial misgivings, I was impressed with what Mangini brought to the table this year, in terms of discipline and accountability. He deserved another year at least.

I also am very skeptical of the idea that this gives Holmgren "a scapegoat" if things go wrong in 2010... I doubt he's looking at things that way, I'd prefer to believe he feels he has a good coach and a solid foundation already in place. If he didn't believe in EM, do you think Mangini would still have a job today?
Holmgren seems to have a lot of integrity and IMO he wouldn't be that manipulative...
As for Daboll, I've been pretty quiet on him... I will say that a I've seen a lot of posters critical of his playcalling, but rarely do they offer examples as to why.

Go Browns, let's make some noise in 2010!

I agree,, Holmgren wants to win, he's a winner. he's not going to keep Mangini to use as a scape goat if things go south.. He's keeping him cause he thinks he can do that damn job.. JMO

Just curious, the way that they are now saying that most of the staff will be back may be a nice way of saying we're going to revamp the offense.

Curious to see who gets fired and hired *if anyone, that is.*

Sweet! That article that was just posted a coupleof posts ago states that we will in fact be hiring a new receivers coach, since our former has joined Rutgers coaching staff.

I agree with you. I think that maybe just maybe,he was actually impressed with Mangini. Mangini seems to be very smart, maybe not the"Mangenious", but smart anyway. And he does seem to know the game of football better than alot of coaches that we have seen around here in along time.

I have to say I didn't think that Mangini would keep his job. I'm not exactly surprised by it because I think he did some good things as the head coach. My problem with him was more on the personnel side. I wasn't impressed with his draft or the players he brought in.

I am however very surprised that we kept the offensive coaches in place. I was very much looking forward to seeing the WCO similar to what I watched him run in GB. (admittedly I didn't see many Seahawk games so I can't comment there) It looks like that isn't going to happen.

Someone else said a while back that if they brought in one of Holmgrens people to run the offense and we had his offensive philosophy coupled with Mangini and Ryan's vision of the defense we would then have the best of both worlds. I guess if Mangini was staying this was what I was hoping for.

j/c You guys might be reading too much into this "told the whole coaching staff" thing. Just because he told the coaches, doesn't mean they are all staying. It just means he probably hasn't made those decisions yet...... Getting a GM and determining the HC is probably higher on his list.
