You could list every position on the team except LT but the 'Need Now' one's IMO are actually hemorrhaging, are approaching terrible. If we found at least a serviceable starter in just the 'Need Now' positions, we'd be a .500 team.

Recognizing we're not going to be able to address all needs in one offseason....
______________________
Need Now:
FS (Day 1 pick please)
RT
QB (With Anderson gone we'll only have 1 QB... a backup at that.)
TE (Especially if we're really going to incorporate more WCO as so many contend. Moore is exciting but we know very little. If Heiden is done we have no one.)
WR (There's no #1. We have a decent #2, maybe a #3? More like multiple #4's lol.)
ILB (Jackson, Barton and Trusnick are fine rotation guys but we need a killer in the middle of the field)
SS (I close my eyes and call whatever spirit possesses Polamalu to possess some player that comes to the Browns)
_______________________________
Can Wait:
CB (If the Safety position is upgraded and the DL line continues to improve we can get by with who we have)
RG (If Fraley and/or Hadnot can stick and possibly rotate.)
RB (We need a big boy but we can get by with what we have)
OLB (assuming we resign Roth. What happened to Alex Hall?)
DL (It think we learned a lot about our depth players that 6 games. Resign Williams please. If Suh is magically available, stuff changes.)
_______________________________

The big wild card is the QB position. It could complicate the whole draft and could mean dramatic things for the whole roster. I have NO idea what to do and I'm thankful for Holmgren's presence.

Biggest needs IMO (in no particular order)

FS, SS, RT, TE

Next biggest needs IMO (in no particular order)

RG, CB, OLB

I have to add in QB somewhere on here, as well as a true #1 WR threat too.

Well we've got 11 picks so I'm going to list 11 "needs". Granted, not all of the 11 picks will make the team and/or play much but we've got FA as well so here goes.

Must upgrade :
RT
FS
CB
OLB
SS

Needs addressing :
QB
CB
TE
WR
MLB
RG

I'd be in hog heaven if Eric Berry would fall to us at #7 or we figured out a way to move up and get him. Everything I've seen and read screams perfect, perfect fit ala Joe Thomas.

Best throw RB in there, as Harrison represents the only "proven" player at the position.

I sincerely doubt we'd be content going into the year with Harrison and a bunch of guys the rest of the league has never heard of as the stable of RB's.

***Gordon, I really didn't think you could be this stOOpid, but you exceeded my expectations. Wussy.

well, you obviously don't like my sig, which is a good reason to keep it

Um no, I love it I really WANT you to keep it...same with the poster who has my Sanchez comment as his sig

@AABF

Since when did KW become a ME ME player? Another one of those board myths...he wasn't the sharpest knife in the kitchen but he always played hard and was a shut up team player on gameday

I did not mention anything about KW2 but since you mentioned it...

KW2 was not going to be in Cleveland after this year. The trade was to get someting while you can. There was no other logical choice.Mangini should be given credit , not discredit, for trading him and BE for the reason mentioned.

Did you hear James Brown on TV asking Rex Ryan if BE's drops were a concern? Huh

BTW, the Bucs were worse than us. Solja did not lift them out of the cellar.

And about my sig, you could very well be correct, but most of your criticisms are based on your anti ____________ agenda and are skewed to one side. Your judgements on Mangini and BQ are just too premature.

I'll wait for Holmgren's assessment if you don't mind. His only agenda is to build a winner.

and since I should address the OP, with every post ideally.

We generally have a concensus here about our needs going into next year.It may be that it takes more than one year, but you never know. How to do it:

1. sign our current key FAs.
2. determine if players on the cusp of retirement( Tucker, Heiden, Pool ) should be re-signed.
3. add a couple free agents in March. Maybe a decent depth player at DB
4. due diligence during the draft. It needs to be near perfect.

I see qb as the top need. As it stands, we are looking at Quinn and Ratliff. I doubt DA is retained, so we need another QB no matter how you cut it, and it best not be a guy to sit behind Ratliff. My thinking it needs to be a guy to start.

After that,,,,

RT....need a bookend to Thomas
DB...either a safety or corner....this might be our 1st round pick
RB....while Harrison looks great, we need a little more past him
LB...I still think a upgrade inside is needed.

I am not that concerned with pass rusher. I think Rubin has gotten to the point he can man the nose full time and we can swing Rogers outside where he will be able to mount a great deal of pressure.

If everybody had like minds, we would never learn.

I also think QB is our top need. We're crippling our offense when we avoid calling passing plays because our QBs can't get the job done. I'd like to see Holmgren or Heckart bring in someone via trade or free-agency. There's a lot of young QBs taken in the past 3-4 years that maybe they were looking to draft in rounds 3-7 that other teams picked up... guys that they thought had good potential. I wouldn't mind getting one of those. I'd rather not use an early draft pick.

Second most important is a RT. I'd like to see us use either our 1-2 round pick on one. Our Oline could be dominate next year with a good pickup here. And with Mack, Thomas, and this player all pretty young, they could be great for years to come (and only improve).

Finally, we definately need a smart, fast safety. I don't have much first hand knowledge about college players, but if everyone talking about Berry is right, then it sounds like he'd be perfect if he fell to us.

Not bad ...

I would move WR up on the chart ( as a need ) : need for a field stretching # 1 is a must ... The need for a Safety ( a couple ) is glaring ... Either a RT or an instant starter at RG... MH. might just go with Brady next year and bring in a Vet... A TE. and a bruiser RB. would be a luxury to have..

I never have been comfortable with DQ. and whom ever in the middle... I hope we sign Roth up but don't think Wimbley is the answer on the other side. If we stay with the three/four , any kind of rotation of Rogers/Rubin/Williams at nose would be fine with me .. Not sold on any of the players we have manning the End spots right now..

Drafting a CB early seems to be one of the bigger gambles ( QB ) for most.. I like the kid out of Florida but would love to find a Big CB some where ...

Going to be another interesting Off season .. Unfortunately , they seem to be more fun than the season itself
