Where do you rate the positions of need, and how would you like to see the team approach filling them ?
IMO, our needs are in this order:
S
CB
ILB
TE
WR
RT/RG
P
RB
QB

Would you want us to draft a lineman at 7 ? Or address that in Free Agency, as you put it at the highest priority .

IMO, just b/c its a need, does not mean you have to invest high..
I have been thinking Sam Young in the 3rd Round... and also Sergio Render in the 4th Round.
O-line issues officially ADDRESSED!

As much crap as the Browns got for their trades last year, I would use a couple of the 6th and 7th rounders (where the quality that is usually found there can be had in Undrafted FA's as well for the most part) ... and package them together to move up from our 2 thirds into getting 2 more seconds .... I'd def. trade 2 thirds and 2 6's for 2 seconds (depending on how high the trade is of course) ... and walking away with a first and 3 2nds ... I'd like that considering we would STILL have 5 picks from rounds 4-7 .... It's not COMPLETELY like last year where we needed ANYTHING .... we def. have the back end and backs ups for the special teams squads ... now we need playmakers, and I would sacrifice a few 6th rounders for a better shot at a guy rated in the top 50

Great post . Agree 1000000% .
As for Punter .. Hodges really isn't going to cut it . Is Zastudil still with this team ? There are some pretty solid guys coming out for the draft this year, and I believe we should use one of those 6th or 7th rounders on one

You and I see things just about the same way. I'm still confused as to why the majority does not have QB at the top of the list.
The only changes I would make is that I would move RB to the bottom of the list and move ILB above RT.
I'm hoping we resign Roth for OLB. I'll consider that less of a need then.

Not a chance. He would have been gone by the end of the 5th. The Pats just drafted a lonsnapper in the 5th this year.

A longsnapper like Pontbriand doesn't make it to free agency. You can make fun of it all you want, but it's true.

Because drafting a long snapper really puts a team over the edge to make the playoffs. There are 100+ college teams that all seem to be able to snap the ball back to the holder and punter just fine. You add Chaun Thompson in the second round to that draft and fans get frustrated that we can't just break even two years in a row.
He is a fine snapper and I'm glad we have him now, but I think we could have been just fine without him.

If we intend to keep Brady Quinn at QB (I'm not saying we should or shouldn't) then tight end definitely moves up a couple slots on the "To do" list.

I believe Zas had knee surgery on his non kicking leg. The cause of his injury was never made public.

The reason our long snapper gets so much praise is because this team is so bad. When you have a bad team, you cannot overcome any mistakes at all. Since Pontbriand is pretty much mistake free he gets a lot of love.
HotB is correct. It was a bad pick. You rarely see botched long snaps.

Tell the Bengals that.
No one appreciates a longsnapper until their's screws up. Ponty will never lose the Browns a game. Most teams can't say that.

who cares... as someone else mentioned there are a lot of NCAA teams that lose their "long snapper" to the NFL...
it was stupid, just like drafting a punter is stupid!

That is what I was hinting at. Every other team seems to do fine snapping the ball and so do like 80% of college teams. Long snappers are out there. So are punters and kickers. And I hate to burst everyone's bubble on Cribbs but kick returners are a dime a dozen too.
The reason Cribbs broke that record is because most returners if they are worth a darn are usually worked into the starting lineup and taken off of the high impact return game. Love the dude pay him but DON'T overpay.

You're wrong. Almost all teams can say that. That's the point.
1 out of 32 teams hardly proves your point.

I bet you can go on almost any team's message board and they will complain about their LS. We don't realize how many bad snaps happen.

I watch a lot of non-Browns football. I also visit a lot of other teams message boards.
I'm not seeing or reading the same things that you are.
Sorry.

And here's another question. Since when is using a 5th rounder on a sure pick, who will never mess up and do his job to perfection a bad pick?

1. It's not...but I honestly don't expect you to get it by now
2. Deep is right
3. You should watch more NFL games...since we have Ponty I pay a lot more attention to snapping...there's lots of horrible snapping in this league...point in case I've seen esp. a lot in the POs...they mess up the whole kick, the holder, the timing and ultimataley the K....think all those missed Ks in the POs are coincidence? Rewatch the snaps-holds on them
4. I wouldn't draft a Specialist in rounds 1-4...but from round 5-7 it's reasonable, they are an underrated part of the game and can decide games (or seasons in a PO game...ask the Chargers or Bengals)....so, fixing this position (if needed) HAS value...you just don't let a K or LS go if he's good/very consistent....Deep is right here

Actually, the 5th round has been pretty kind to us Browns fans. It has given us Brandon McDonald, Jerome Harrison, and Andra Davis. Not a bad group of 5th rounders.
But to answer your question. I take Pontbriand every time if I need a long snapper. Great pick.

Of the 8 teams in the divisional playoffs today, 6 of the long snappers were originally rookie free agents.
The Jets LS was drafted in the 4th round and the Saints was drafted in the 6th. The Saints LS is well traveled ... I believe 4 or 5 different teams in the NFL.
It's about value and risk. The value doesn't go down all that much and the risk doesn't go up all that much if you wait until after the draft. Those picks are best used on other positions.

Would you rather have Pontbriand or a guy who is most likely out of the league right now, or a 3rd stringer?

You are assuming if our LS was originally a rookie FA he'd be out of the league?
That's a bit shortsighted.

I don't know who the Bengal's LS is but he's BY FAR the worst I've seen this season...I feel sorry for their holder because this guy is all over the place on his snaps...Graham is a great K and made up for most of this guy's mistakes but he still had a sub par season by his standards and had 3 kicks blocked (2 by Rogers)
I wouldn't draft a dime a dozen LS...but Ponty was the Joe Thomas of LS, really..he was well worth the pick and I'm saying this as someone who cursed at that picked back then

My point is you don't need the Joe Thomas of LS's to be a successful team.
What's done is done, and I'm glad he's ours. But I wouldn't do it again.
And Cincy's LS was pretty bad. But that was pretty extreme. When's the last time we've ever seen anything like that? Nothing I can think of in recent memory.
