I bought a 3" foam topper. It is great. I imagine a tempur-pedic bed is amazing. I say buy one it will be expensive but worth it.

my brother has one and I slept in it for a week while watching his kids. It was amazing! I have a very bad back(3 herniated disks) and I felt great! I would get one if I could afford it.

I've got a crappy pillow top from Sears. Stay away from a pillow top... While it might be nice at first. They tend to get worn down and even lumpy in some spots. Who needs a bed, when you're single and you got a couch? jk

Seeing as you spend more time in that single space then anywhere else over the course of your lifetime, it doesn't make sense to go cheap on your mattress.

We purchased a tempur pedic made in the US. (not the original swedish company) It was about half as much as the swedish co, about 1300 dollars with 15 year warranty.
It is a great investment. It took me a week or so to get used to it as it is firm if you are used to a softer matress but i dont know what I would do without it. It really helped with the periodic sciatica I deal with from time to time.
I will never own another type of mattress again.

I never tried a Tempur-Pedic matress ...... but I do like my Posture-Pedic matress with the memory foam built in. I just wish I'd invested in the even thicker memory foam. They had 1 with 3 inches of memory foam built in that I passed on for the next lower model. Next time .... I go for the upgrade. lol

It will last a long while if you take care of it.
About every 3 months or so, turn the mattress, then 3 or so months later, flip it....do that and it stays in pretty good shape for a long time.

That will be my next bed. Still have a pretty good mattress and pretty good condition. Will get about another 5 years out of it. But, I SO want a Sleep Number bed. The husband prefers a soft mattress and I like them a little firmer. Seems an ideal solution.
My boss has one and she loves it. She bought it based on recommendations from 3 other co-workers.

I would like to buy a Craftmatic bed with Sleep Number Adjustment and Tempur-Pedic Foam Mattress, with optional variable speed massage and adjustable heated mattress. The only problem is it would cost about the same as a Cadillac Escalade.

I slept on one when were vacationing in Philly over the summer, and I didn't care for it that much. You can adjust how soft or firm the mattress is, but the feel of the mattress didn't seem comfy to me.

From personal experience: I love ours!! Prior to getting one it would often times take me a good 10 minutes to get out of bed in the morning because my back tightened up so much throughout the night.......I slept fine, I thought - just needed too much time to even be able to walk - let alone bend over.
Since we got one? I LOVE it. Would recommend one to anyone! Only problem I have with it is my wife keeps her side on 5, while I prefer about 50. If, in the middle of the night, I get too close to her side it feels like I'm dropping off a cliff!

That probably would help. The hotel we stayed at didn't have a pillow top. The concept was cool, liked they idea of adjusting the bed, but the mattress top itself didn't feel soft enough.

I can't say, as we've had the pillow top from day one. No idea what it would be like without it.
I do know I love it.

If you have allergies, be wary of the tempur-pedics. They off-gas all sorts of nasty things. We were going to get one until we heard the stories of how bad people ended up breathing while sleeping on them. Instead we went with the Select Comfort Sleep Number. It is quite nice and adjustable to your needs/moods.

Aha, I've got a similar testimony... My ex-fiancé kept her side at 40/50 and I prefered the 70/80, and like you said... It's kinda like rolling over a cliff.
Ill say I've slept on a walmart tempurprdic knockoff, and a problem I had personally was that it sorta softened up after a little while to where it wasn't supportive anymore.
A sleep number bed I can say is vey comforable for someone who likes a stiffer mattress, becaus it will 'form' to you very well without givng way... But for softer settings I can't say.

I've had one for about eight years. I found it to be a very good mattress. If you don't get their box springs for under the mattress, you'll need a heavy duty set. The mattress is heavy and very durable.
Your body will sink into it, as the temperature of a cold mattress is warmed by your body. The mattress is more stiff when cold. Once it is warmed up, it fits your body like a glove. In normal non winter conditions, you will just sink in to a comfortable depth.
Test out as many beds as you can and get what you like and feel good about. I'm not sure if they have the 60 or 90 day trials or not. It would be worth looking into.

We have the pillow top for ours as well Arch, I sleep so much better on this bed, and it helps with my aches and pains as well. But I sleep with mine on 90

Did you get the frame with it?
Only ask, cause when we got ours.....well, my wife works nights. So when she left at about 10, I decided to get rid of our old bed and assemble the new one.
About 1 a.m. I just grabbed a blanket and slept on the floor. Too many adult beverages I guess. Never got the thing together until the next nigh. Although, funny thing, I was drinking then too.
