[color:"white"]As always, I'd encourage you to download this game via bittorrent and see it with your own eyes. These are my words, but I'd encourage you to judge what I've seen for yourself.
Falcons first drive: We see what a difference a legit 3-4 OLB makes, as Willie Mac doesn't lose any ground and forces Dunn to his inside. Washington, who's been coming on as of late, doesn't go down, slides down the line and makes the tackle. 2nd and 8 at the 17.
Falcons out of the power I, Dunn off left tackle. Wimbley shows he's a rookie by not holding his running lane and going upfield. That opens up the inside for Dunn. Jackson also shows he's a rookie by getting sucked to the inside, as Dunn set him up. Dunn for 21. After praising Washington for a good play on 1st, he doesn't do his REAL job which is to eat blockers. He let's the center release into Davis which helps open the huge hole. You're a 2-gap NT Ted. Act like one. 1st down.
Power I reversed from the 21 yarder by Dunn. Browns still in a standard 3-4 allignment, playing it conservatively. Playaction draw, but the coverage was apparently good, as Vick had to pump, pull it down, and throw to the sideline. Jackson had the receiver on the release. 2nd down and 10.
2 TE formation, Beverly split wide, Vick in the gun. Crumpler with a short gain, covered by McGinnest. 3rd down and 6.
Spread offense, Vick in the gun. Jones runs to the line trying to time his blitz. He was early, DAvis on a delay blitz. McGinnest made the incompletion happen as he blew through the blocker and got in Vicks face, forcing him to throw it just out of bounds. Even at his advanced age, he can still provide solid rush in spurts. Punt, first down Browns.
12:36 at our own 23. Standard 2 wide power I, Winslow in motion. Winslow comes back to the left side of the line and shields his kickout block. Smith leads Droughns through the hole as Druzzi and Fraley block down, Coleman coming over the top of them both. There wasn't much of a hole, but Smith got enough of a block to open a crack for Droughns who slid through and got 5. 2nd and 5.
Smith out, Heiden in. Straight 3-step drop and throw by Frye to Heiden. He was open, Frye hit him, but he dropped it. Fraley was blown into the backfield by the DT, Droughns cut the rusher as his job was to get him to the ground to open the passing lane. I liked that it was a timing throw, and Frye put it on the money. Luckily, Atlanta penalty, 1st down Browns.
11:51 at our 33. Power I as Smith is back in for Heiden. Draw to Droughns up the gut for a short gain of 2. Fraley or Coleman failed to release to the second level, and the defender split him and Smith to hit Droughns. A niftier runner may have tried to bounce it left, but there were unblocked defenders there. Not sure if Droughns saw them or not, but all 3 second level defenders had a run to the middle of the running play. Not much push by the interior of the line. 2nd and 8.
2-TE's, Smith out. Play action to Droughns. Jackson blows through Fraley even though he puts his hands to his face and blows his hat off his head, Frye steps up, has a wide open Edwards. Coleman puts a move on Druzzi, gets by him, and plants Chuck as he throws. 10-yard penalty on Fraley. Frye misses a wide open Edwards who had a couple of steps. 2nd and 18.
3-wide, spread, Frye in the gun. Quick WR screen, Northcutt for 6. Pretty nice play call to get some of the yards back. 3rd and 12.
10:37 left. Frye in the gun, Droughns in the backfield. Straight 4 man rush. Fraley missed on his DT, Frye feels it looking left, steps up, looks right.....and overthrows into double-coverage to Northcutt. Punt.
10:11 to go, 1st down Dirty Birds. Power I strong left, 2-WR right (same formation as the 21 yard run). Vanilla 3-4 by the Browns. Same play call as the 1st of the game. Roye beats his guy and grabs Dunn in the backfield, supported by Davis who gets help as Washington slows down 2 blockers. That's more like it. DE shedding blocks, NT eating two guys, MLB helping.
2nd and 10 from the 10. 2-TE set fleaflicker. Andra Davis takes a bad angle as Vick runs by him. He was unblocked. Jackson was juked by Vick, hehe. 1st down.
2-TE set. McGinnest holds his block and sheds it. Washington is pushed back a bit, but fights through it, stays on his feet, and clogs the middle stopping Dunn for 2. The interior isn't being pushed around and Ted is looking like he did in his prime. 2nd and 8.
Motion to a Power I, draw to Dunn up the gut. Roye pushes through his blocker, getting his hands on Dunn before he can get past the LOS. Washington does his job, eating 2 blockers, freeing up Jackson and Davis to take on one blocker and make the tackle. That's how it's supposed to be done. Gain of only 2.
7:50 left, Vick in the gun. 3-man rush off a delayed fake blitz, Wimbley flushed Vick to his left, Leon Williams spying, forcing Vick to dump the ball short for an incompletion. Good scheme and execution, but it started with the pressure by Wimbley. Punt.
1st and 10, 7:33 left, our own 40. Power I. Droughns up the gut. Falcons stacking the middle. Shaffer is beaten by the DE, and Fraley is pushed into the hole by Jackson. On one hand, the defense stacked four guys between our tackles, but on the other, Fraley can't handle Grady Jackson, and Shaffer was handled by the DE. 2nd and 7. Power I, false start called on Coleman, but Fraley moved first. 2nd and 12. Heiden in for Smith, Tommy Jackson in for Grady Jackson (Tom Jackson's 7th and 8th cousins removed?). 2-WR left, 2-TE right. Blitz by both LB's. Before Frye can get to his drop, Coleman is beaten to the outside, ILB is coming up the middle. Droughns stuffed him, but Frye is forced up into the rush because of Coleman. The DT's sack him in the confusion. 3rd and 17, quick hitter to Cribbs. Gain of 10 on the quick slant, smart call, but a gimme 10 by the defense. Zastudil with the side-spinner going out at the 5. Thank God we have a good punter.
5:14 at their 5. Dunn to the left. Looks like Kelly in for Washington. Falcons throwing chop blocks Davis is there to make the stop, but doesn't get the tackle, giving up 8. 2nd and 2.
Power I, Browns stacking the middle. Dunn up the gut. Kelly got a huge push on the center blowing up the timing of the play. Wimbley pushes down the line and helps make the stop. Unlike most of the games in this 3-4 era, we're controlling the LOS. 3rd and 2 after no gain.
Bootleg Vick, Wimbley chasing him as he held his responbility, Leon Williams shadowing Vick. Russel has the INT if Vick makes a decent throw. He was all over that route. Great play Browns. Punt.
1st down Browns at their 46. 2-TE set. Frye straight drop, pump N go to Winslow down the sideline. It was a really good throw by Frye, as well as really good blocking by the line. Coleman actually handled Jackson by himself. It took Fraley to help Druzzi to stop the other rusher. 1st down, 3:24 left.
3-wide, fade route to Joe. That play is there all year if Frye puts it on the money. Just wasn't a good throw. 2nd down.
same set, straight drop, catch by Edwards, but the pass was almost too far to the inside. Nice catch Edwards. That ball should be lower, as it was head high and arms width away from his body. fake draw Frye rollout. He can't get in. Dinkins is blown into the backfield as Kerney chases Frye and ruins the design of the play. Frye almost fumbled the ball trying to stretch out. Not a wise choice. 4th down and goal, Browns going for it.
What I've always called the Powerhouse Backfield (3 guys behind Frye) Druzzi on the pull to the right, Smith gets his kickout block. Droughns rides Druzzi into the endzone. TD. It worked because Coleman got his downside block, Druzzi got just enough (he's got little power) and Smith nailed his guy. A smaller back probably can't push in. Gutsy call for a TD where the blockers deserve the credit.
1st down Falcons 1:31 left. Power-I 2-wide, Crumpler in motion left. Playaction against a 3-man rush, but Roye is allready into the backfield as he pushes his guy right back near even with Vick as he plants to throw. Good power. Davis is all over Jenkins for a gain of 5, but that was a good play by our guys. 2nd and 5.
Offest I left, motion by Cumpler right. Playaction to Dunn right, Vick rolling left on a designed keeper. Roye chasing (yeah, that's a knife at a gun fight). McGinnest runs up to stop him, so Vick shovels the ball to avoid the hit. Nice play Roye, nice play McGinnest. 3rd down.
Vick in the gun, Browns moving around trying to disguise....a 3-man blitz. White is wide open, Perry nowhere near him. Looks like Davis was trying to creep up to get Vick if he ran, but it was a mistake as Leon was spying all the way. That opened up the zone. May not have been Perry's fault. 1st down.
Vick in the gun. Draw to Dunn left side. Looks like a hole, but Davis fought his way around a blocker and made the tackle. That's what he's supposed to be doing. Good play.
End of the 1st quarter. Falcons line isn't doing a very good job of beating a rather pedestrian defense. 1st down.
Straight drop by Vick out of the strongside, offset I. McKinley really beats the guard, forcing the back to pick him up. It forces Vick to slide to his right, perhaps disrupting the timing of the throw. Jones slides in front of a pass which was a little behind the receiver. GREAT INT by Jones. And FINALLY, the Ref's call the Falcons for their cut blocks. It wasn't nearly as bad as the ones not called, but I'm glad the zebra's were looking out for it. I wonder if the Browns coaches were barkin' in their ear prior to the play, hehehe.
1st down Browns, 14:51 to go. I formation, Winslow lined up as the slot receiver, motion left to off Tucker's hip. Delay to Droughns. As I stop the replay, I see very good blocking by the line. The defense bought on the delay, all their guys to the left are engaged. Shaffer has his man kicked out 2 yards past the LOS at the 41, and Smith is engaging the 'backer in front of Droughns. It's up to Reuben to pick a hole and go, as the middle opened up on a defensive slant. He was tripped up by the diving defender behind him. It was a good run for the line more than a good run by Droughns for 7. He'd have gained more if the defender hadn't gotten him diving from the side. Reuben knew it too as he was slamming the ball and his hand on the ground. He wants to hit people, hehe. 2nd and 3.
2-TE set, 2-WR left, Droughns handoff to the right against a stock defensive front. Guard and center pulling to the right. Here's where people view Droughns as slow, and I can see how people will say that. If he were a pure speed back, he might have been able to get all the way outside before the OLB slips in for the tackle. LT probably does. However, with 2 pulling linemen, they BOTH let the 'backer run right up field to tackle Droughns for a loss of 1. Poor blocking by the line ruined that play IMHO. Sure, a fast back might make the cut, but a North-South runner doesn't. I just don't see how two blockers should miss a guy who's obviously an assignment.
3rd and 4, 13:31 to go, Frye out of the gun, 2-wide, 2 backs. Frye has a good pocket. Nice blocking by the guys. Droughns helps Winslow who isn't a good blocker. Kerney goes inside of Tucker and Frye starts to scramble. Le's rolling left and looking downfield. He throws to a wide open Winslow who releases (what else could he do? He whiffed on his block *L*) and makes the catch for a 1st down. Sadly, he'll get credit by 95% of the fans, but he really didn't do anything special. Droughns picks up his guy, Frye rolls out, and Winslow is open. All in all, a good play for a 1st down.
12:50 remaining. Frye in the spread gun empty backfield. 4 man rush. Another good pocket by our linemen. Kerney is ridden upfield by Tucker. Not a thing of beauty but a good play against a guy who's a sack machine. Shaffer hasn't given much ground at all. Coleman and Druzzi are pushed but hold their ground. Fraley is looking for someone to help out on, but there isn't anyone Frye puts it right on the money to Edwards on what looked like a hook. Edwards used his body to shield out the safety. Nice play, 1st down.
Frye in the gun on 2nd and 1. Fake Draw, good blocking, Frye throws in time, and hits Edwards for a wide-open TD. Again, Frye looks his best when he's throwing in time. For those interested, Frye also faked the handoff, LOOKED LEFT, came back right, and hit Edwards in stride. Nice play by everyone, and it was nice to see Edwards catch the ball with his hands.
1st down Falcons trailing 14-0 from their own 24, 11:52 remaining. 2-TE set, White in motion right to left, going against a stock 3-4 front. It's the same kind of run play that we're used to seeing for Droughns. Dunn to the right, looking to make a cut to a hole. The blocking slides right, Dunn cuts back left. Simply put, our guys are engaging and either shedding or beating their blocks. McKinley takes the inside cutback lane, and the left TE barely tried to block Wimbley who had the outside. STuffed for a gain of 3. 2nd and 7.
Playaction off a 2-TE set. Davis on a blitz where he lined up over the left guard. Vick has a nice pocket, but he steps up to within arms reach of where Davis is engaged with the guard. Odd. Davis can't make the sack even though he had him in his arms. It is Mike Vick afterall. Vick scrambling around, headless chicken style, stops and throws to a well covered Jenkins who's smothered by Holly. 3rd and 7.
11:08, dime back in the game, Vick out of a 3-WR 1-TE gun. Browns show blitz then back out. Wimbley nearly has Vick, forcing to step up in the pocket. He throws a strike to Crumpler for the first on a hook. Just a nice play by Vick and the pro-bowler. 1st down.
2-TE set, Frasier in the game. 5-man front, 7 in the box. Standard look. Playaction to Dunn left, no pash rush at all. Vick way downfield to a well-covered Jenkins. Nice play by Ralphie.
2nd and 10, 10:24 left in the 2nd. Power I 2-WR left against a 5-man front. Dunn on the cutback right. Dunn only got a yard, McKinley blew the play up by forcing his blocker into the backfield. Alvin is having a good game. This is how you stop the run people. Dunn is forced back to the inside because of McKinley who's 2-yards deep into the backfield. Jackson hits the running lane and engages the blocker behind the LOS. Davis forced his way through the traffic and made the tackle. The unit looks good, 3rd and 9.
Vick in the gun, 3-WR Dunn in the backfield, dime package. Browns on a corner blitz from the left, Davis blitzing up the middle. Vick throws left to a well covered White. Brown was all over him, but Vick made a good read and an even better throw. No defense can stop that. 1st down.
9:22 to go. 2-WR 1-TE, power offset I left. McCrary motion right, handoff Dunn to the right. Ladies and gentlemen.......we have a Matt Stewart sighting *L* He blew into the backfield from the left, shed the blocker, and tackled Dunn at the LOS. Textbook play by a guy who isn't visible. 2nd and 9.
Vick in the gun out of the spread, 1-back formation. The right tackle is pulling left to lead through a hole on a draw. Looks like Roye was on the nose, but whoever it was, they stuffed the blockers in the middle and clogged the run lanes. Nice play. 3rd and 5.
Vick in the gun, Safeties on a zone-blitz. We started in a 3-man front look, then the safeties came up to the LOS. Our FS came free and nearly had Vick. However, Vick knew the blitz and went to the slant. The problem was that Ralphie read it and beat the WR to the spot. Good play by Grantham and Brown. Punt.
1st down Brownies. We come out in a 3-WR, 1-TE formation. The falcons are in nickle, and with only 4 men on the line with 2 'backers stock at 5-yards back, we should be able to run against this all day. Handoff Droughns to the right as we're trying to zone block. However, our guys can't get it done. Andruzzi simply drops his head and moves forward, letting Coleman essentially go unblocked down the line. Shaffer was beaten badly by Kearney who met Droughns in the backfield on the cutback to get away from Coleman. Oddly enough, Fraley did a really good job on his man, pushing him well off the LOS. The left side of the line simply blew it. Pretty sad. 2nd and 11.
2nd and 6 after an encroachment. 2-TE set, Droughns alone in the backfield, 2-WR left. Old school looking pulling with Fraley and Coleman going left while Druzzi and Tucker are blocking down. It looks like Kearney over committed and ran himself out of the play. Heiden with a REALLY good block on the ILB pushing him backwards. I'm not used to seeing that out of him, as he's a shield blocker, not a drive blocker. Droughns is following Fraley through the hole, then cuts back to the left making #56 miss. He also was fast enough to get past the free defender coming from the inside. Well past the 1st down marker, he puts a final move on the safety that looks like it broke his ankle, hehe. Too bad it didn't, as the safety stuck it out and tripped Droughns Great run, as he gets through the trip, keeps his balance, and gains an extra 5 yards. Almost a gain of 20. Great play by everyone. 1st down.
40 yard line, 6:13 to go. I formation, Winslow in motion left against a stock defense. False start Jurevicius. 1st and 15. 2-WR left, 2-TE right. TE by Droughns, something was jacked up. Same formation. Falcons think they know what's coming, as they stack 6 on the line and shadow Winslow in motion. Playaction to Droughns. Druzzi is beaten like a rented mule. Good block by Droughns to give Frye a view to throw the pass to Winslow. Not a big gain, but against a blitz and a flailing Druzzi, it was positive. 2nd and 10.
Playaction to Droughns right, rolling left, throw to an open Heiden who actually breaks a tackle (or did they just miss on their own? *L*) and gets 8. This is the play where Kearney got hurt. 3rd and 2.
Power I strongside right, Winslow the TE, handoff to Droughns following Smith to the left. Winslow is a great receiver, but he sucks as a blocker. His guy not only pushes him down the line, but also into the backfield blowing up the play. Chauncy Davis abused Winslow. Droughns never had a chance. Truth be told, there wasn't any push by the line either. Gain of nothing, time to punt.
1st down Falcons at their own 20, 3:55 left. Crumpler on the left, strongside power I. Zone pass blocking on a straight drop by Vick looking left. Dunn is releasing into the right flat, looks like Crumpler engaging Wimbley, but Kamerion appears to be learning very quickly. He doesn't rush, but instead drops into coverage right as Crumpler releases. Sure enough, Vick has turned to look back to the left again after looking downfield. That's EXACTLY where Vick was trying to go. Great job Wimbley. There wasn't any real pass rush to speak of. Roye finally gets past his guy and forces Vick out. Wimbley forces Vick back inside, and Davis plants him, hehe. 2nd and 7.
Power I strongside right, WR in motion right. Handoff Dunn strongside. This was a great play by Washington. He fights through a cutblock and forces Dunn to the outside. Washington is so freakin big he plugged the middle by just fighting foward on his hands and knees, hehe. Meanwhile, Davis fought through a block and finished off the play at the LOS. Nice play by Davis. Crowd is boo'ing now. How great is that? Vick is a little goofy after gettin' planted by Wimbley and Davis on the play before. 3rd and 6.
Vick in the gun, 2-back set (could be a TE). Browns stack the line showing blitz by Davis and Leon. Davis drops out, Leon shadowing Vick, 3-man rush. Vick has time, is looking, can't run because of Leon, throwns downfield into a 1-yard window. It probably could have been caught if the throw was a little better. Time to punt.
1st down Cleveland after Heiden deflects the punt! How good of a deal did Butch make when we traded for this guy? He's not shifty, he's not a great blocker, and he doesn't have any moves, but he can catch all the passes thrown to him, is a good special teamer, and is the consumate 2nd TE.
2:32 to go. Power I, receiver in motion from the right. BUT, Frye stopped him and audibled. I don't remember what happened, but I'm glad to see Frye change a play. It means he has the freedom and the coaches trust. Screw Mo (where's the middle finger smiley when I need it?) Pathetic blocking on the handoff to Droughns by Druzzi. He can't get to the defender who blows into the backfield. Carrington is left unblocked and brings Droughns down behind the line. Either a sad audbile or poor blocking.....actually, both. 2nd and 9.
Heiden in for a 2-TE set, 2-WR left. It's the same pull play that gained 20 earlier in the game. The line did a good job of opening a big hole, though the MLB blitzed up the middle. Droughns hit the hole at full speed then fumbled as Brooking stuck his helmet into his gut. We caught the Falcons in the right blitz, but Droughns fumbled. That could have put the game out of reach if we'd have scored. 15-yarder on Brooking *L*
1:54 to go in the 1st half. 3-wide for the Falcons, Vick on a straight dropback. Nick Eason did a good job of pushing the guard into the backfield, forcing Vick to dump it to Dunn for a gain of 6. Vick in the hurry up.......quick pass to Crumpler for 8.....to the line.......under center......quick drop looking for White on the slant to the right......catch good for 10......no huddle in the gun........52 seconds......drops....takes off and is landed on by Roye. They called Roye for an elbow to the head. I dunno, BS call IMHO. I think he's going for a hard hit, but I know the Ref's are calling that kind of stuff. Players have to be smarter than that, especially a vet like Roye.
Schaub in the game. Fine, if you're going to call us for a penalty, I'm glad it counted for something. Schaub in the gun at our 45, 45 seconds left. Schaub high and wide to the right.
Vick back in with 41 seconds left. Vick in the gun, 2-backs. No rush, Jones at the LOS with Pool. Short gain of 4 with 35 seconds left. Vick looks gunshy, as if we're really gettin into his head.
Vick in the gun at our 41. Showing blitz with Jones. Vick being Vick, buys time, dumps to Dunn, chased down by the fast Wimbley. Gain of 15. No pass rush is a problem in allowing Vick time to do that. But he is Mike Vick, and sometimes he's amazing. 1st and 10.
Eason in the game. Leon Williams who's shadowing Vick knocks down the pass. Nice play, or poor play by Vick. 2nd and 10 at the 26.
Vick inthe gun, fires left, incomplete to Dunn. Leon is forcing Vick to throw the ball on these spies. Vick is very aware that he's there. 3rd and 10.
Stunt, vick throwing to the endzone, but Russel made a GREAT play in coverage at the goalline. Russel got maybe his longest finger on the ball, but he was there. Favre makes that throw, but it was pretty good coverage. 44 yarder by Methuzela is good.
HALFTIME.
So far, this is a game of two defenses who are doing a pretty good job against two very iffy offensive lines. Frye has passed for only 102 yards, but has been very efficient. It's been a point of mine to say that we need to get him to throw on time, and in this game, we're seeing the benefits of that philosophy. Vick for only 89, and the shadowing by Williams has played a role in keeping him in check. The Falcons have rushed for 71, but a big part of that is on the ever-present Vick scrambles. Outside of one or two runs, Dunn has been held in check, as has Droughns. It's nice to see our defenders getting a good push against the Falcons line, as that's something they've been missing for most of the season. Our backers are playing a very good game, as is our D-line. The interior of the Falcons D-line has pretty much handled our interior guys.
On to the 2nd half.
1st down Browns at our own 28. Droughns by himself in the backfield, 2-TE's left, 2-WR's right. Playaction Droughns, Frye looking right off the fake then back left. Davidson is getting some current criticism for being too conservative, but he does come out throwing on 1st down. Druzzi can't handle Jackson, Frye see's it and steps up in the pocket. He makes Williams miss on the 17-yard scramble. Very good play by Chuck, not only for looking off the safeties, but for the run. 1st and 10.
Reversed formation, Droughns running off tackle to the 2-TE side right. Coleman and Fraley pulling, TE's blocking down. Our guys simply can't get out there quick enough or strong enough to get to the 2nd level, clogging up the running lane. Droughns puts his head down for 3. The 'backers did a good job reading their keys and sniffed out the play. We had the advantage in numbers and formation, but it wasn't enough. We're just not athletic enough.
2nd and 7. Real quick hitter to Joe on the right. Hall isn't fooled and Joe is tackled for a gain of 1. 3rd and 6. Never heard it called a "stork" route before.
12:56 remaining at our own 49. Frye out of the gun, 3 receivers left, Droughns on his right. Falcons rush 5, Winslow's guy coming free off of Shaffer's left. Frye makes a good move to avoid the sack, points downfield, then takes off. He smartly put the ball in his off-hand to protect it, but he's taken down for a gain of only 1. On the blitz, Shaffer should have probably recognized it and picked it up. I don't know if it's coaching or Shaffer, but that's a pickup that good O-lines make. Punt. Another good backup punt by Z, they get it near their own 10.
1st down. 2-TE's, motion by the 2nd WR right. Brown stack 9 within 5 yards of the ball. Looks like they expect run. Our safety makes a good tackle on nice blocking by the Falcons. Gain of only 4.
Vick in the gun. He takes the snap, has all freakin' day to throw. Is finally pressured by Eason and Wimbley, but nobody is open so he throws it away. Good coverage (unless Vick just can't find a guy. Announcer says the routes were confusing. I can't verify it. 3rd and 6 their own 13.
Vick out of the gun, trips left including Crumpler with Dunn on his right. Browns appear to be rushing four, McGinnest is trying to twist, but Roye can't even get upfield enough to make the move effective. Pool is covering Crumpler well, but he makes the catch and gets the first. Nice throw Vick. 1st down.
Straight I, TE left, 2-WR right. Handoff Dunn to the right, following the fullback. He cuts back as McGinnest takes on the fullback. Washington again does his job, as he eats two blockers. Davis only has to do his job, which is fill the hole and make the tackle. Unlike in the past, he does a nice job of it and stops the gain for only 2. 2nd and 8, 10:23 to go.
Offset I, Crumpler in motion left. Vick with a half-hearted playaction. No pass rush whatsoever to speak of. Vick dumps it off to Dunn leaking out of the backfield. Davis with the tackle, but he and Jackson had Dunn locked down. 3rd and 1.
Browns do a nice job of eating of filling the middle, but he breaks a tackle and is brought down by Frasier. 1st down at their own 40.
I formation, 2-WR's left, 1-TE right tight. Handoff Dunn to the TE side following McCrary. We're giving a little ground at the LOS, but the LB's fill. Dunn cuts back but Wimbley is there to tackle him for a small gain of 4. Dunn has 60 yards on 17 carries, but it doesn't feel that effective, no long runs. 2nd and 6.
8:31 at their own 44. Oddly enough, they liked what they saw so they call the exact same play. This time, McGinnest blows up the blocker and cloggs the middle. McKinley does another very good job of fighting through the blocks and cloggin' the middle. Davis and Wimbley get the credit, but McGinnest and Alvin deserve the credit, mostly McKinley. This is one of the best games I've seen him play. I've been thinking he was dissapearing, but he looks like he did when he came on at the end of last season. 3rd and 4.
Vick under center, pro-set with Crumpler in the slot left. Davis on the blitz up the middle, picked up by the back. Jones on the delayed blitz doesn't get there. Perry covering Lelie who was open. Vick just didn't make a great throw. Punt. Holding on us, putting us in the shadow of our own 6.
Offset I, TE right, 2-WR left, Smith to that side. Handoff to Droughns up the gut following Smith. Druzzi is helping on Jackson, but that leaves 2 'backers to fill the hole. Smith takes on one guy, leaving the other to make the play. Droughns cuts inside but can't get through the traffic. Gain of 2. We need more athletic guards. 2nd and 8.
7:00 to go, I formation. Playaction Frye rolling right. He takes off running and gains 7. 3rd and 2. Nice to see Davidson moving Frye around.
Power I, 2-TE. Tommy Jackson slants to the inside and Druzzi can't get him. We're stuffed. It looked as though the Falcons just beat us to the spot. HOwever, even if Druzzi had been able to block Jackson, Winslow dives at Kerney's legs and completly whiffs. He'd have made the play had Droughsn gotten past Jackson. Punt. It's apparent Winslow is a serious liablility as a blocker.
5:37 at their own 30. Vick on playaction rolling out left and running. Davis again takes a poor angle and misses the tackle. Sorry Andra, but Vick is faster than you think. 1st down.
Power I at our 40, Crumpler in motion blocking right. Handoff 250 pound Jackson right. Roye clogs the middle, McGinnest beats his guy to the inside and helps. They aren't moving us much at all. 2nd and 8, our 38, 4:35 remaining.
Offset I strongside left. Vick on playaction, no pass rush to speak of. Vick steps up and throws downfield and hits Jenkins right in the hands. Dropped *L* 3rd and 8.
Vick in the gun, safety blitz. Vick see's it, throws the hook left to White at the marker, 4th and 1, Falcons going for it. They had to call timeout as they only had 10 men on the field. Vick drops, throws to the endzone, picked off by Pool at the 1.
Now people are getting on Pool for not dropping the ball intentionally, but most of those people never played football. Your instincts tell you to make the catch before the other guy can, so you do what comes naturally.
1st down Browns at our 2. Smith up the gut. Hard to see what the Hell is going on in all the traffic, but it looks like Fraley gets one back against Jackson, pushing him backwards. Smith only gets 2 (but what, was he supposed to break it for 50? *L*). 2nd and 8.
3:00 left in the 3rd, our own 9. 2-TE's both lined up on the right, I formation. Handoff Droughns left following Smith up the gut. It's just a freakin' mess, as our guys can't get any push. Droughns sticks his hat in there and gets 4. 3rd and 4.
Frye in the gun, split backs (but one is Dropcutt). Very good blocking......by everyone not named Cosey Coleman , but Frye just sits back there holding onto the ball and looking downfield. We've talked about this play ad nauseum. Simple 4-man rush. Coleman simply beats Coleman with an inside swim move. Droughns rides him to the left, but Frye had slid that way as he stepped forward in anticipation of the throw. Droughns seemed surprised that Frye was still back there with the ball. Simply put, Cosey missed the block badly, and Frye should have gotten rid of the ball or stayed in the middle of the pocket.
1st down Falcons after a poor punt. McCrary motion to the left, Vick drops. McKInley beats the guard and Wimbley's speed forces the throw out of bounds. We couldn't get the right guys on the field so we had to call our 2nd timeout with 1:12 left in the 3rd quarter. Eason was busting onto the field, but Vick saw it and was about to snap the ball. McGinnest saw it and burned the TO.
2nd and 10. Vick is having a poor day. 12 of 30, 117 yards and a couple of INT's. For every hot streak Vick has had, he's gone cold. Good thing for us he went hot a few weeks before this game, hehe. Fake toss right, throw left, TD Jenkins. Jones is mad, as it looks like he's shocked that Jenkins actually went fo the endzone .
1st and 10, 59 seconds left, or own 28. 1-back set. Frye with a straight drop, looking to the middle. He doesn't like what he sees, comes off the primary and hits Heiden on a short out. Only a gain of 3, but it's nice to see progression in his reads. 2nd and 7.
Droughns in the backfield. 2-TE right side, Joe on the left. Against just a stock 4-3 with the backers all 5-6 yards off the ball, we should be able to really crack a good run here. Straight handoff Droughns left up the middle. Fraley tries, but just can't handle Jackson who sheds and tackles Droughns, who had no choice but to try and power through the tackle. He gains 1 yard. That wasn't Grady Jackson, but Tommy Jackson. Smith doesn't really make a good block as his guy finishes off the play.
Start of the 4th quarter.
14-10 Browns, 3rd and 5, Frye in the gun by himself at the 33. ROLB is moving up towards the line looking as though he'll blitz. That would make 5 rushers against our 5. 'Backer blitzes. Fraley correctly passes his guy off to Druzzi who can't even remotely handle him. He blows by Joe who can only turn and watch. Fraley finds his rusher, but is blown into the backfield. Both guys are back their at the same time as Druzzi and Fraley look bad.
1st down Falcons at their own 46 after a very poor punt. Handoff Dunn to the right, cutting back left. Both teams run the Hell out of this play. Washington again does his job, as does Wimbley and McKinley. Washington takes his two guys, Mckinley stands his guy up as does Kamerion, and Davis fills and makes the tackle after a gain of 1.
2nd and 9. Power I. Ralph Brown on the corner blitz forces Vick up. Wimbley takes advantage of the fact that the left tackle doesn't know where Vick is and sacks Mike as he stepped up in the pocket. Great play and good call Grantham. 3rd and 12 at their own 43. Vick in the gun. Fake 4-man rush as Williams spies in his drop. Vick rolls left, can't find anyone downfield and steps up. Roye chases him (like Orpheus has a shot *L*) Vick gets away and dumps it to Dunn in the right flat for a gain of 1. Great coverage (I guess, since I couldn't see it). Punt.
1st down Browns after a 3-and-out. At our own 9, 12:33 remaining. Power I, Winslow in motion back to Shaffer's side. Falcons creeping up looking for the run. They get it, handoff Droughns off guard right up the gut. Coleman and Fraley blocking down, Druzzi pulling to the right. At this point, the design appears solid, as Druzzi is coming free to take one backer while Smith should be able to take the other. BUT.....Fraley's guy is allready 3 yards in the backrield right on SMith's hip. Looks like Fraley just wasn't as quick as the defender who was shooting the gap. I'm inclined to say that's better defense than poor blocking. However, Druzzi does a [censored]-poor job of pulling and doesn't get any movement onhis guy. That forces Smith, who was leading through the hole, to ALSO take that guy on. That leaves the other backer free to plug the hole, which he does. Droughns is held up by two guys simultaneously as a 3rd lays the wood on him. Freakin' sad blocking by a bad set of guards. Coleman was losing his battle as well, wrapping his arm around Jackson's neck trying to keep him from the play. It didn't help Droughns that he had to jump over the body of Druzzi which was, by this time, laying on the ground beaten. 15-yarder on Winslow who can't help but act like a [censored].
2nd and 13. Offset I right, 2-TE set our own 6, 12:09 remaining. Delay to Droughns running left, following Smith. Shaffer doesn't get enough of a shove on his guy who can come around him and get Droughns. We're just not athletic or physical. Smith is met in the backfield by the backer, shutting off anywhere for Droughns to go.
So far in this game, there hasn't been anywhere for our backs to go. More burst won't help here.
3rd and 13. Falcons blitzing, knowing they aren't going to meet much resistance. Frye hits Winslow on the quick out, which is the smart play. Punting from our own endzone.
1st down Falcons at midfield after a really good 53-yarder.
10:32 to play. 2-TE set, playaction (a poor one) to Dunn. Vick to his left. Davis is lined up a the LOS over the left guard. Davis does a REALLY good job of shedding the guard, going inside of him, and bangin' Vick to the ground. Vick can only throw it away. 2nd and 10.
Vick in the gun, fake pass clearly a draw. Gain of 20 as our guys were rushing the passer. 1st and 10, our 29.
Vick on the pumpfake, had time, but had to get rid of the ball as McGinnest was coming from his backside. At this point, Vick has a 38.7 passer rating. Vick in the gun on 2nd and 10.
Draw Dunn to the right, defensive line still holding their own. Tackle McGinnest and Jones, as both were holding their ground after the draw. Smart play. 3rd and 4, 9:05 remaining.
Vick in the gun. He throws to the corner to Jenkins. He and Holly were tied up under the underthrown ball. Jenkins is arguing, but Holly had good position and the ball was badly underthrown. Vick isn't a very good passer. Field goal Methuzela from 41.
1st and 10 Browns at their own own 20 as Cribbs inexplicably decides to leave his feet and nearly coughs up the ball.
8:47 at our own 22. 1-back set. Frye on a quick drop, Falcons are looking for the quick pass and knock the ball down. 2nd and 10. I can't say that Davidson is being too conservative, considering how poor we're blocking. Playaction, short throw to Heiden, gain of 7. Smart play by rolling Frye on the 'action. 3rd and 3, 8:01 remaining.
Frye in the gun, Droughns wide to the left, empty backfield. Shaffer is beaten by Kearney, but Frye gets the ball into Heiden on the quick hook, 1st down Browns. Druzzi was beaten as well after watching the realtime replay. We aren't a very good blocking team at this point in the season.
1st down Browns, 2-TE set. Frye on the drop, decent protection, he stares down Winslow going down the sideline, heaves it down there, and Winslow makes a pro-bowl catch on a ball that Frye should have never have thrown. Amazing catch Winslow. 1st and 10 at their 29.
Offset I, playaction to Droughns. Frye gets greedy and AGAIN forces the ball downfield to Winslow. Very dumb play by Chuck, especially on a play where he had very good protection. 2nd and 10, power I.
Quick hitter to Joe for a measely gain of 3. Davidson is being conservative, but Frye has given him very good reason not to trust him on this drive, and the line has given him reason not to trust the run. Short passes are the answer. 3rd and 7, all out blitz. Heiden doesn't recognize his blitz pickup soon enough (Maybe Dinkins?) and Frye gets popped as he throws it away. Dawson on for a 43 yarder. That was a freakin' slice if I've ever seen one. Rossburg is the first one there to get Dawson's ear as he hits the sideline asking "What the Hell was that?!" *L*
17-13 Browns, 5:37 left, Falcons in the gun at their own 31. Vick going downfield on the short rollout. Jones drops into his zone and makes a very good play on the pass deflection. It was nice positioning by Jones, but a bad read by Vick. 2nd and 10.
Handoff to Dunn up the middle from a power I, getting 4. Roye made that play as Dunn had a cutback lane, but Roye shut it down, forcing Warrick into the pile. 3rd and 6.
Vick in the gun, firing to Crumpler. Pool was all over him. Great coverage. Pool is slowing growing up as a player. Punt. Browns up 17-13.
1st and 10 Browns at their own 22, 4:34 remaining. Power I, Winslow in the game, Edwards in motion back to his left. Falcons have run both safeties up to the LOS expecting run. Wouldn't you? 9 defenders in the box and only 2 yards off the ball. Droughns makes a great move 4 yards deep in the backfield to get past the guy that Coleman couldn't handle. There was simply no way we could run against 9 guys in the box. He got 1 which is about 4 more than he should have gotten. 2nd and 9.
Power I, same formation and motion. Playaction Frye to the left, throwing back to the middle. Edwards should have caught the ball, but it was a poorly timed play. 3rd and 9. After a penalty, it's a Northcutt draw up the middle. 4th down, punting.
Vick in the gun with 3:31 left. With the slight blurr on the VLC Player, Vick looked alot like Chris Rock Vick with the bomb, great catch Roddy White inside our 20. 55-yard bomb.
Vick playaction, Davis almost has him but can't hold onto him. Holding Beverly who's flippin out. I'm not sure it was holding, but who am I to judge?
1st and 20. Vick in the gun, 2:31 left at our 27. Vick has his pass deflected by Frasier. It's a case of "he sucked so bad on that play he was good" as he got no movement, then simply got his hand up in the passing lane. 2nd and 20, 2:28 left.
Vick in the gun, dime package in for Jackson. Vick all by himself, lined up behind the guard, fumbling all by himself. LOL!
1st down Browns. We all know Droughns is going to get the ball, and we all know the Falcons won't let him get anything
Power I, Droughns right up the gut. Fraley can't handle Jackson and Heiden can't handle his guy, both defenders meeting Droughns at the LOS. Two minute warning.
Power I, playfake. Frye takes off and takes a shot around the neck. Gettin' up in a woozy way. Announcer says that Heiden was open on some "Naked Action." Riiigghhtt....*L* After a replay, I can't say if he was open or not. Frye was trying not to screwup, which is the right thing to do with the lead.
3rd down. Power I again, Falcons stacking the line, Druzzi is blown into the backfield, as is Coleman. Loss on the play.
Anyone wonder why Droughns' yards are so poor? *L*
Punting, Browns screw up by taking the clock down too far. You can tell we're not used to playing with a lead Crennel is upset. He looks like he needs a Twinkie.
Z with a horrid punt, so bad it was good.
That's where my copy of the game ends.
All in all, it was a baby-step forward game for Frye. He was very smart and on time with the ball in the 1st half. The more Davidson goes in that direction with Frye, the sooner we'll find out if he's the guy or not. That's the best thing to get the most out of Chuck, as well as speeding up his developement.
On the defensive side, it's one of the best games I've seen out of Davis. It's also one of the best games I've seen out of the D-line. Washington was eating his two blockers, McKinley, who's drawn ire from everyone, had a strong game. A REAL strong game. Remember, 3-4 DE's aren't supposed to make big plays. They are supposed to not get blown away so that the backers can make plays. In this one, he stood his ground and did in fact make a few plays. Roye was good as well. They won the game for us.
As for Droughns, there wasn't anything much for him this game. He broke one long run, and had another stopped by his fumble. However, there weren't any holes for him to get through at all, and no amount of burst would have solved that one. Dunn didn't have any holes either, and was held in check much the way Droughns was.
Our O-line in this one simply sucked. Coleman and Druzzi look slow and lost. Shaffer looks like he has no power. Fraley had good and bad moments, though I'm inclined to give him a small pass because he was going against Grady Jackson. However, he was handled often by guys named Coleman and the rookie free agent Tommy Jackson, and there isn't much excuse for that, not if we're interested in giving him a longterm deal.
By reading the board, I trust I'll see better line play against the Squeelers. The copy I downloaded of that game was corrupted during a power outage at my house, so a fellow Dawg is sending me a copy. He'll be making an appearance with some commentary.
Until we fix the line, we're not going to get the most out of our running game, which will hurt Frye, which will hurt our skill position players.

What on earth would compel you to write all of that? That had to take more than a few minutes.

Great stuff again Toad.
I just might try that bittorrent thing.
I like hearing commentary about our O-line...at the very least, you have made a case for replacing the guards.
I tend to disagree with you about RD. I think he's done as the #1 guy...but RAC will play him as one anyway.
All-in-all very good read. Thanks.

[color:"white"]Frankly put Peen, I do it for ME.
You'll forgive the tone of what I'm about to say, as it's going to sound harsh. It isn't directed to you or anyone inperticular, but........
We all talk out of our butts when we've either not seen anything more than parts of the game, or have only seen it once at full speed. Even then, how many people stare at the QB and nothing else when on offense? They see the game through their Homer eyes or their Pessimistic eyes, and people tend to see what they want to see when they only get one crack at it at full speed.
I go back and watch this in slomo for MY OWN personal good. I like to know exactly what the Hell I'm talking about when arguing on this board. Many don't and it pisses me off. That other board is full of ignorant idiots who don't know the first thing about football, so by watching the games in slomo, watching the plays again to grasp what's happening, I can make informed opinions. Posting the ENTIRE thing simply gives me a chance to again review my own thoughts and process it, while offering insight to people who can't get copies of the game. Not everyone is on broadband, so downloading an 800 meg file would take weeks. Some few people even believe me when I say I'm honest in what I see Setting the joking aside, I'm hard on the players and honest in what I see. I'm no Homer, I'm no pessimist. I'm a realist, and too many people have their heads firmly planted on one side of the fence or the other, and it blinds them from what's going on.
So why do I do it? First for my own sake because I love football and the Browns, second so that people who don't have the ability to see the games again (if at all) can get some kind of perspective, and third, to shut the people up who talk out of their ass
Lamp, making a summary in just a few paragraphs would be the true waste. That's something that is done by people over and over again. Yet how many people break down each play? People don't have to read it. This is for those that gain something from it. You didn't. That's fine. Peen didn't. That's fine. WSUWillie did, and THAT'S why I do it. Finally, God forbid that it actually starts some kind of REAL discussion or debate. /off sarcasm. I want each poster to get the gumption (gumpsion? *L*) to download these games and watch for themselves. Do you believe me and want to see what I see? You'll download the game. Want to prove that I'm talking out of my ass? You'll download the game. Want to shut me up? You'll be motivated to download the game.
That's why I do it, so that the fans who talk can be better informed, which is what I've always wanted.

Two people can view the same play in completely different lights. I am one who knows I have to watch and rewatch games( yes in slo motion) to feel comfortable about posting my opinions. Some have done this for years and I aplaud them. What they don't do is break down the game the way you do so don't stop. It's educational for some of us and as far as the rest of the people who cares? They aren't being forced to read these threads.
About Droughns, you know I'm a big fan of his but I do think you're taking it a little far in his defense. The only assesment that matters is Davidson's. If we continue to see him in heavy doses we will know what he thinks.

I saw your first one of these Toad and said to myself .. wow ... great work ... was looking forward to talking football as the thread was around 3 pages ... I was excited .. some real football talk ... then i made the mistake and went to the thread and was absolutely dissapointed as maybe 2/3rds of the responses were just negative BS saying u had an agenda .. hey, I can be the biggest jerk on here when i want but even if I thought u had an agenda I'd have just said great work cause of the effort U put in ...
so I decided next time U did it I'd do some work and at least U and i could talk football ... like U and a few others I want to actually know what I'm talking about(actually more importantly I just wanna know what the hell is going on with the Browns and this is the best way to do it ... posting and having a clue is just an added benifit) instead of talking out my ass .... so heres what i got so far ... will do more as time permits .... so here goes ....
[color:"white"] Dirtty Birds first drive : Roye gets doubled by the G and T witch frees Ted to slide down the line ... nice play by willie and Ted ... .....
on play 2 they pretty much leave Ted unblocked .. the C chips him and then goes and seals Dra .. it was a run the the left and the RG actually circles around Ted and tries to chopblock him .... based on the first two plays when they run anythng not directly up the gut it appears there going to single block Ted due to his lack of mobility ... hurt them on play when willie held his ground and worked great on play 2 when wimbely didnt' and DQ got sucked in ....
Willie makes a nice play on 3rd and 6 .. makes there RT look like ours on most passing plays .. .... noticed wimbely took an inside rush .. I'm sure it was desigend that way cause of the blitz .. but he still got in pretty quick although he ultimatly ended up on the turf ...
I was actually impressed with the blocking on the first play by us .... granted the DT on the side we ran to moved into the gap between Druzzz and Fraley and was almost a NT kind of creating the hole we ran through .. but none the less everyone did their jobs for a change ,.,,,, shaff pushed the DE out ... Druzzi blocked down onthe DT who was lined up over the C ... coleman pulled and took care of the ML ... Smith came through and get the outside LB from the other side (who was lined up inside like a 3-4 LB would be ..
I thought it was a nice hole for us the d just clogged it up about 4 yards dowfield cuase or OL couldntn keep them sealed ... for us ... a nice hole and one of the very few times the entre OL did their jobs ...
[color:"white"] 11:51 at our 33. Not much push by the interior of the line.
on this play .... they lined up the DT on Tucks side of the line over Fraley ... so Fraley engaged him first and then attempted to go to find the LB but by that time the LB had come in and IMO was the reason Rube cut it in .. dont think Rube could have got by him if he cut it out as he was right there being chipped by Smith ... all smith could do was chip him cause he got there so quick and Smith's momentum (in this case not a bad angle cause Smith was going further outside from the start) ... Rube may not have saw it and he may have been able to go outside .... IMO based on where the LB was, Rube did see it but didnt think he could get out .... but i could be wrong ...
the DT basically lined up as a NT helped on play 1 and destroyed the blocking assignments on play 2 as Hank had to help with the guy lined up over him, freeing the LB to run free to make the play ..
Frye misses a wide open Edwards for what should have been a TD ... not that it matters cause of the penalty ....
. [color:"white"] 1st and 10, 7:33 left, our own 40. Power I. Droughns up the gut. Falcons stacking the middle. Shaffer is beaten by the DE, and Fraley is pushed into the hole by Jackson. On one hand, the defense stacked four guys between our tackles, but on the other, Fraley can't handle Grady Jackson, and Shaffer was handled by the DE
As good as the OL blocking was on the first play from scrimmage IMO ... this one was as bad ... fraley cnat handle jackson .. well not many can .. Grady is one of the priemere run stuffers in the league today ... but Shaff and Druzzi ... UGLY ... Shaff doesnt do damm thing ... he stands his man up and stays on him but his man does whatever he wants and moves LATERALLY (ie: no push what so ever either downfield or away from the play by Shaff) down the line right into the hole .... Druzzin meanwhile heads directly downfield to level 2 and runs right past the LB coming in to the line towards where the hole should be ,, he would have filled it if there was one to fill .. *L* ..
UGLY!!!
[color:"white"] 3rd and 17, quick hitter to Cribbs. Gain of 10 on the quick slant, smart call, but a gimme 10 by the defense. Zastudil with the side-spinner going out at the 5. Thank God we have a good punter
I have no clue if Charlie took what they give him or that was just the play call .. but i like the fact that Charlie took what they gave him and didnt try and force something trying to get the 1st ...
[color:"white"] Bootleg Vick, Wimbley chasing him as he held his responbility, Leon Williams shadowing Vick. Russel has the INT if Vick makes a decent throw. He was all over that route. Great play Browns. Punt.
Toad .. I didnt' even see Williams out there bro ..... 20 the DB was the other guy over there behind Wimbely chasing him .. where was Williams on this play??/
[color:"white"] 1st down Browns at their 46. 2-TE set. Frye straight drop, pump N go to Winslow down the sideline. It was a really good throw by Frye, as well as really good blocking by the line. Coleman actually handled Jackson by himself. It took Fraley to help Druzzi to stop the other rusher. 1st down, 3:24 left.
it was a good throw in that by the time he FINALLY threw it he had to put it behind KW2 in the hole he had cause the safety was almost there .... but it should have been thrown alot sooner .. HORRIBLE MECHANICS on Frye on that throw ... after the pump fake he held the ball way to long ... he shuffeld his feet and took to long to reload ... that ball should have been thrown about 1 second sooner .. if he does that KW2 would aghve caught it and had time to put a move on the safety and waltzed in ... as it was he had to turn completely back to the LOS to make the catch .. and at that point it was a good throw by Frye cause if he led him the safety very well may have broke it up ... ball should have been throw alot quicker by charles ...
[color:"white"] fake draw Frye rollout. He can't get in. Dinkins is blown into the backfield as Kerney chases Frye and ruins the design of the play. Frye almost fumbled the ball trying to stretch out. Not a wise choice .
HORRIBLE FAKE .... Charles needs work on his play fakes .... had to *L* on this one .. poor coleman out there bare naked in the open field trying to block a CB ... poor fella did his job and had no shot to block a CB in the wide open space .... had to *L* at that one ...
[color:"white"] What I've always called the Powerhouse Backfield (3 guys behind Frye) Druzzi on the pull to the right, Smith gets his kickout block. Droughns rides Druzzi into the endzone. TD. It worked because Coleman got his downside block, Druzzi got just enough (he's got little power) and Smith nailed his guy. A smaller back probably can't push in. Gutsy call for a TD where the blockers deserve the credit.
Gonna mention this one for two reasons ...
1. GUTSY ASS CALL .... tippin my hat to showing some confidence in the D's ability to stop them and trying to get the OL sme confidence ....
2. since our return I been saying the OL will be well below avg. until we can CONSISTENTLY make 3rd or 4th and short by just lining up and running the ball ... I dont think this OL is capable of doint that on a consistent basis ... but in this instance they did a GREAT JOB .... it was a very very nice job by the entire OL and i bash them enough so when they do good ... I need to pat them on the back ....
NICE JOB GUYS ...
[color:"white"] Vick in the gun. Draw to Dunn left side. Looks like a hole, but Davis fought his way around a blocker and made the tackle. That's what he's supposed to be doing. Good play.
Same thing here ... I think Dra is way over rated and not very good at all ... but he made a real nice play here .... so i gotta give him kudos .... what the hell kind of a tackle was that though?? *L* .. it was ugly .. but affective .. *L* ..

Bootleg Vick, Wimbley chasing him as he held his responbility, Leon Williams shadowing Vick. Russel has the INT if Vick makes a decent throw. He was all over that route. Great play Browns. Punt.
Toad .. I didnt' even see Williams out there bro ..... 20 the DB was the other guy over there behind Wimbely chasing him .. where was Williams on this play??/ [color:"white"] I'm at work, so I don't have access to the game (yeah, but I've got time to screw around on the net, as it's Thanksgiving and everyone is out *L*). My recollection was that Williams was shadowing near the LOS. He'd been doing that all game, so I think Vick was aware of him which kept Vick in the pocket. Now, having said that, it's always possible that I've mixed up numbers, but Williams has a distinctive look on the field. Something with a doo-rag or longer hair. it was a good throw in that by the time he FINALLY threw it he had to put it behind KW2 in the hole he had cause the safety was almost there .... but it should have been thrown alot sooner .. [color:"white"] I agree with ya. Frye looks like a guy who is STILL waiting for the recievers to come open instead of simply throwing it on time. That hesitation causes doubt, and doubt causes the mechanics to hitch. It's definitely something he needs to work on. The developement of Frye continues.
I need to pat them on the back .... [color:"white"] I'm anxiously awaiting the chance to see the Steelers game to see if the line actually started to do something, or if the weather played a role. Offensive lines always have the advantage in bad weather, much like the '02 game where they couldn't get a hit on Holcomb. However, this game included and to this point, these guys are just plain bad. Shaffer looks like a complete whiff on Savage's part, and Coleman and Druzzi look badly outmatched. They look like backups. Fraley has good plays and bad, but I think if he had some decent guards around him he'd be pretty decent. I've always noticed how our former center now in NY looks good when surrounded by guards who aren't overmatched. All he has to do is shield and assist, which is something Fraley can do. I've seen his head on a swivel pretty often. I don't think he's worth the money he may want on the open market, but with Bentley's future in serious doubt, he's worth bringing back as long as he doesn't want top-dollar. Vick in the gun. Draw to Dunn left side. Looks like a hole, but Davis fought his way around a blocker and made the tackle. That's what he's supposed to be doing. Good play.
Same thing here ... I think Dra is way over rated and not very good at all ... but he made a real nice play here .... so i gotta give him kudos .... what the hell kind of a tackle was that though?? *L* .. it was ugly .. but affective .. *L* .. [color:"white"] I've been a huge detractor of his as well, and he'd earned it. However, he played rather well this game. I can only hope he keeps it up and starts earning the dollars he got to sign that new contract. Lastly, thanks to you and P. All I really want is other people to get something out of this for their own benefit. As far as Droughns goes, I've always accepted what he can and can't do, but with a good line, he's good enough. Having a homerun threat would be nice, but I believe our picks are far better served in other areas. We can get a new back, but if we don't get a line, Frye won't develop. If we don't get help on the defensive front, we'll never stop the run. Getting a running back early means those positions aren't getting help, and to me that's the wrong way to go.

I sometimes forget to put one of these:
I was just kidding, man. Of course I didn't read the whole thing, but I scrolled down until I caught your summation in last few paragraphs... giving myself my own cliff note version.
Don't worry about it (and I know you won't ); keep on keepin' on.

Here's a little more .... 2nd Q ,,
[color:"white"] 1st down Browns, 14:51 to go. 2nd and 3.
Shaff didn't drive anyone 2 yards on this one bro ... u missed what he did or mis typed what he did .. he had a nice seal job on the OLB from his side .. the play was designed to go the right ... so Shaff let the DE end go and left him for Druzzi to seal ... Shaff immediatley released to the 2nd level and sealed the OLB .... they blocked very well but when i read it, it sounded like Shaff drove someone 2 yards of the line and thats just not what happend ...
the slant was the key to this play ... it was a perfect call for the O against that D call ... just like the first play of the game the entire D went the opposite way of the play we had called ... the line did block it well ... and Smith went untouched to the LB and KW2 also sealed his OLB nicely ... his OLB is the one that made the shoe string tackle ... but he held there for a split second ...
[color:"white"] 2-TE set, 2-WR left, Droughns handoff to the right against a stock defensive front.
On this play Friedman actually tried to block the LB that made the tackle ... it was a futal attempt but an attempt none the less ... it seemed like neither Fraley or Friedman saw him until it was to late ... Friedman then tried to dive at his legs and take him out but he had to dive almost backwords .. didn't work ...
it did look funnyy as it appeared two guys just ran right by him .. but one actually tried to make the block ....
Nice pass blocking on 2 plays in a row .... not used to saying that .. *L* ...
WOW .. make that 3 plays in a row .. nice play action froze them ... but that maybe the best 3 consecutive plays I seen by this OL all year ...
TD Brey .... and as toad said it was nice to see brey catch the ball with his hands for a change ...
going to play some poker in a bit so I wanted to get this up ... may do a few more plays till my ride gets here .....

well wait till U get home then ... *L* .... the dreads coming out the back of the helmet was one of the things i was looking for .. I think U just made a mistake on that one .... not that it matters ... wimbely was chasing him and #20 was the one that was out there "shadowing" him ... he wasn't really shadowing he was just out there in no mans land kinda lost .. *L* ..
[color:"white"] I agree with ya. Frye looks like a guy who is STILL waiting for the recievers to come open instead of simply throwing it on time. That hesitation causes doubt, and doubt causes the mechanics to hitch. It's definitely something he needs to work on. The developement of Frye continues.
yup .. absolutely ... hopefully he gets thais one real soon as its a big one and more instinctual than learned ... he needs to trust what he sees and if he cant see it hes done ... this one is actually sumptin thats not learned ... hopefully he saw it and just didn't trust it ... cause that was a real easy one to see ... the CB bit bigtime ...
[color:"white"] Lastly, thanks to you and P
No need to thank me ... it gives me someone to talk about the stuff i see .. this is fun for me ....
[color:"white"] As far as Droughns goes, I've always accepted what he can and can't do, but with a good line, he's good enough. I have no problem with Rube .. he is what he is .... most on here cant see all the good he does and they see someone like wright and harrison and their speed to the hole and thats all they see ... they dont see them getting Frye killed or see them not moving the pile .. there new and shiny and DIFFERENT ... so they get all gooogooo ... it starts with the line .. and i've said it for years ... dont matter whos running or throwing or catching if the line can't block .. were done ...
as for the draft ... i would LOVE to draft OL and front 7 on D ... (actually i think U can get 3-4 DE's and NT later unless there an absolute stud like Hampton was) ... but in rnd 1 it depends on where were at and whos available .. just for arguments sake if were at say 5 and Thomas is gone and Peterson is available ... if we can' ttrade down I wouldn't be upset if we took Peterson even though we need the other positions .... to me its where we pick and whos there ... with OL and front 7 the optimal picks ...
How many dinners u served tonight?? others than yours ...

so I decided next time U did it I'd do some work and at least U and i could talk football ... like U and a few others I want to actually know what I'm talking about(actually more importantly I just wanna know what the hell is going on with the Browns and this is the best way to do it ... posting and having a clue is just an added benifit) instead of talking out my ass .... so heres what i got so far ... will do more as time permits .... so here goes .... Well, not being able to see the games myself i'm extremely thankful for all football discussion and IMO this is a fantastic thread. Don't keep it underground (pm's) chuck it out there for the viewing public to digest.,......heaven forbid people should be talking football on a football board. Good work both of you Guess that makes me a tad-pole

Late post. Time to be looking AHEAD to the bungles this Sunday. Hard to evaluate a game yet to happen innit. That would be a prediction post. I can imagine the Coaching staff's reaction if the players said of previous games in evaluation meetings, "Hey that's in the past....it doesn't matter...."

How many dinners u served tonight?? others than yours ... [color:"white"] Oh my freakin' goodness About 5 minutes after I finished my post from work, I heard the room service phone ring. Then again. Then again. Then I heard my chef's printer going off 5 times in a row. I leave the office and look around the corner, and I see that half my freakin' restaurant is being sat This is at around 6pm. I was floored, and couldn't believe what I was seeing. Then the front desk manager comes back and says "Kurt, you do know that every restaurant in town is closed, right?" Er.......sure......I knew that I'm home but I know my Chef is STILL up there cleaning the kitchen *L* Big night man. It hurt me, hehe. Riddler, I'm glad you're getting something from this. As noted, I'd be rewatching and breaking down the games for my own benefit anyway, so if I can help posters, we all win. Folktown, if, for some reason, the Ref's decide this should be deleted, I've saved it and can send you a copy. Groza, that's two weeks in a row. Yeah, it's a full 11-days back, but as you can see, it's not a time to look ahead for everyone. I'll be getting a non-corrupted copy of the Steelers game, and probably won't be posting it until after the Bengals game is over. Just a heads up. I'll actually get to watch the Bengals game myself this week, and will have thoughts, but I won't get to do a breakdown until I've recorded it and properly broken it down. Same goes for that one.

OK ... i'm home now ... gonna have a few brews before i hit the hey ... hopefully I can make it to halftime ....
[color:"white"] Playaction off a 2-TE set. 3rd and 7.
Wow .. that was brutal .... no clue why Vick stepped up right into Davis .. he was stonewalled by the gaurd .. but Vick literally steps right into him ... Dra wraps both arms around him and Vick just runs backwords out of the tackle ... Vick is good and all ... but sheesh .... this is the 3rd tackle I've seen him miss all ready ... he is a HORRIBLE TACKLER ...
OMG .. they just showed a slo mo replay of it ... he has Vick run right into his lap and he flails at him .. would be funny if it wasnt so sad ... its like he was so shocked at what vick did he got overexcited and just flailed at him .....
[color:"white"] 11:08, dime back in the game, Vick out of a 3-WR 1-TE gun. Browns show blitz then back out. Wimbley nearly has Vick, forcing to step up in the pocket. He throws a strike to Crumpler for the first on a hook. Just a nice play by Vick and the pro-bowler. 1st down.
I liked the power Wimbley showed on this play .. he drove the LT straight back ... was nice to see for a change from him instead of just the speed move ... your boy leon was in shadowing vick on that play ...
[color:"white"] 2nd and 10, 10:24 left in the 2nd.
This was a nice team effort ... alot of guys did their jobs correctly on this play ... and Dra did a real nice job of filling the hole and making the tackle for about a 1 yard gain ... that was one of the very few times I've seen him do that since hes been here .... I would like to see more of that from him ....
[color:"white"] 1st down Brownies. Pretty sad. 2nd and 11.

that was really wierd .. watch that play again ... Shaff was almost standing up like it was a 3rd an 10 and he was in pass block position with the rest of the line including the TE next to him in their 3 point stance ... Shaff looked like a fish out of water before the snap ... he seriously reminded of a humped back whale the way he looked .. *L* ... then he tried to chop Kerney and missed badly .. he just cant make that block .. ill designed play when u ask him to do that ...
[color:"white"] Power I strongside right, Winslow the TE, handoff to Droughns following Smith to the left. Winslow is a great receiver, but he sucks as a blocker. His guy not only pushes him down the line, but also into the backfield blowing up the play. Chauncy Davis abused Winslow. Droughns never had a chance. Truth be told, there wasn't any push by the line either. Gain of nothing, time to punt.
that was a very odd blocked play .. the entire right side of the line seemed to block down on their guys pushing them left towards the hole ... the play was obviously designed to go that way and everyone blocked their men that way ..... very strange ...
and now we know why KW2 shouldn't be on 3rd and short ... as big of a plus as he is in the passing game hes as big a negative in the running game ... that was hard to watch ...
[color:"white"] Power I strongside right, WR in motion right. 3rd and 6.
Nice play by Davis ... he filled the hole and fought off a block ... very nice Dra ...
[color:"white"] 2:32 to go. 2nd and 9.
I dont know what happend .. but the guy that made the tackle .. was the RDE .. Shaff just took off after the ML or someone downfield leaving the RDE unblocked .... must have been a mix up somewhere ....
[color:"white"] Heiden in for a 2-TE set, 2-WR left.
Nice job by everyone ... including KW2 ... he seals his man properly this time .... damm Rube ..... i hope to see this play a couple times in the first couple series in the 3rd Q.... its by far our best running play ...
[color:"white"] Leon Williams who's shadowing Vick knocks down the pass. Nice play, or poor play by Vick. 2nd and 10 at the 26.

This was the first play on this drive that he was in on .... why did it take so long to get him out there?? very strange ...
and WTF did Frye do on the play before halftime ,,,, wtf was that .,.. throw the ball idiot ... your trying to buy time to throw a hail mary??? sheesh ... HORRIBLE ... does this boy have any sense of the game .. that was pitiful ...
OK .. I made it to halftime ....

[color:"white"]Makes one wonder if the line really understands how they are supposed to block on certain plays, doesn't it? When you combine very poor blocking with the teams we've played, it's no wonder we're one of the worst rushing teams in the league. Here's the defensive rankings against the run of some of the teams we've played: Baltimore 3, San Diego 7, Pittsburgh 8, Atlanta 9, Denver 12, Carolina 14.
Bad line play equals no rushing ability, no matter who the back is. We rank 30th in the league in rushing yards per game. What's interesting are the names of the backs who are down there at the bottom with us:
Edge James Kevin Jones Reuben Droughns Cadillac Williams Steven Jackson Deuce McAllister and Reggie Bush Jamal Lewis Willis McGahee Ronnie Brown Rudy Johnson
Those are in order from the very worst team in the league on up through the 23rd spot. Those are some 1st rate names in there.
So far this year, Droughns is averaging 3.1 yards per carry on 153 attempts, Wright is averaging 3.1 yards per carry on 36 attempts, Harrison is averaging 2.8 yards per carry on 16 attempts, and Smith is averaging 1.5 yards per carry on 4 attempts.
That's horrid. It's all on the line.

[color:"white"] 1st down Browns at our own 28. 1st and 10.
I thought that Druzzi actually did a good job of riding jackson out on this play .... i thought it was a pretty good pocket and the middle opened up like the red sea for Frye to romp through ... the pass rushers just took bad routes to the 'QB ... the two DT's went to the outside like DE's and our Gaurds just rode em on out ...
[color:"white"] Reversed formation, Droughns running off tackle to the 2-TE side right. We're just not athletic enough.
your right were not atheletic enough to pull ... and the db's and backers sniffed it out .. but the BIGGEST PROBLEM on this play was the RDE that I never heard of .. the announcer was telling us who he was and that he was taking Kerney's place as he was tossing tucker aside like a rag doll and then just going through Hank (hard to blame Hank as Hank was running by him and had to stop and turn sideways while bending down to make a block .. he didnt do it well .. *L*) ... this one just had BUST written all over it and was just tottaly blown up when Tuck couldnt even slow down the guy right in front of him when were trying to run outside that way .....
[color:"white"] 12:56 remaining at our own 49.
Shaff should have probably recognized it?? thats like saying Custer should have noticed a few more Indians than he bargained for .... this play really TICKED ME OFF and shows just one of the reasons I line is so bad ....
the guy was LINED UP RIGHT OVER SHAFF .... not like he came from the corner ... and there was NO ONE THERE TO BLOCK HIM .... Joe was the closest player to Shaff and he was 5 yards away ... and the Falcons had the DT to Shaffs side lined up as a NT and the DE Shaff would normally be responsible for was lined up almsot directly over Coleman ... and then the blitzer was almost right over Shaff with no one there for him to cover ... what was Shaff thinking (ASSuming he was thinking) ... oh and in case anyones wondering the RB was lined up on the other side of Frye and at the snap immediately ran a route going out the other side of the backfield so Shaff knew there was ABSOLUTELY NO HELP coming ..
it was kind of funny watching shaff chase the DE around Coleman blocking him as the blitzer just took a b-line to Frye ...
HORRIBLE ..... NO AWARENESS at all ...
[color:"white"] Straight I, TE left, 2-WR right.
Nice play by Willie to force it in ... and then a nice play by Dra ... he filled the gap nicely and made the tackle .... this is the best game I've ever seen him have as far as filling gaps (hes done it 2 or 3 times this game and I honestly dont know if he had done it 3 times in all his time here) ....
he's playing very good so far ...
[color:"white"] 8:31 at their own 44. 3rd and 4.
not sure who gave Dra and DQ credit but neither of them did a damm thing .. *L* .... Willie blew up the blocking focing it back in and the middle took care of it .... Dra was beingblocked and didnt' get within 5 yards of the runner (not Dra's fault .. he went where he was suppose to) and DQ looked like Dra does on way to many plays and was cuaght behind the pile ...
its nice to watch Willie .. hes blowing up alot of blocks and disrupting alot of plays ... hopefully Wimbely will be more disruptive with another year under his belt ....
[color:"white"] Power I, 2-TE.
WOW ... that was really bad .... it seemed everyone of their DLmen was at least a yard in our backfield .... Pssst ... were suppose to push them off the ball fellas ... the only diff between Druzzi and the rest was that the others just got pushed back not completely beaten ....
and KW ... best TE in football?? *LMAO* ... that boy has no clue what a block is ....
[color:"white"] Droughns in the backfield.
Hank was in trouble from the get go as Tommy was lined up over his left shoulder witch was the way the play went ... so he just could'nt get the proper angle on him and he isnt strong enough to push him down the field so he just slid down the line with him and bingo ... no place to go ...
and Smith didnt make a good block and his guy helped and so did Druzzi's ... Dru released on the snap to go to the 2nd level .. well he barely hit his man and his man just made it another body right there ....
I have never been a big fan of Druzzi's (Iove the guy and the experience and heart he brings.. hes just past his prime that wasnt' that good to begin with .. ).... but this has to be the worst game I've ever seen him play .... he is just a total non factor out there .... its almost as if were playing a man short ....
end of the third and my night ....
I noticed that Wimbeley was dropped in coverage almost exclusively this quarter .... he hardly ever rushed the passer .... and we didnt see much of Leon Williams either .....

Nice work Toader...Time consuming...But nice nonetheless...
Diam...HTF r ya'?...Happy T-Day to ya'...
Sooooooooooooo...I've read every word so far and I see Andruzzi missing this...Shaffer whiffin' that...Tucker just sittin' on his ass...Or standin'...lol...We've got a serious problem goin' on here and Frye/Edwards/Winslow aren't going to mature as we need them too until this is rectified...
Andruzzi's DONE...One G spot open... Coleman's a FA...TWO G spots open... Tucker's beyond prime...RT open... Fraley's a FA...C open... Shaffer's middle of the road...LT SHOULD be open... Bentley's knee rehab ??? Sowells unknown??? Dorsey/Butler/Friedman JUNK???
We're settin' Frye up just like Couch...Only with more talented weapons...
WTF r we gonna do??????????
Toad...Been at Indian Lake all week with a peak here and a peak there on the hotel puter in the lobby...If u do the Stiller game we'd see a Defensive DOMINATION in the 1st half...This gives us serious hope on the defense for the future with a few added pieces...Notably Front 7...But what these guys have done with the 4th/5th/6th and a FS playin' Corner is approaching MIRACLE.....
Ya' gotta think a guy like Holly will stick with Baxter gone...
Go Browns!!!

[color:"white"]That's a football addict if I've seen one. Go Browns, go DND
I have to admit that my opinion of McKinley and Roye have changed after watching just the Falcons game. I saw two guys who looked like real NFL starters, not part timers or guys past their prime. Now that was going against a line that isn't nearly as good as advertised. If they then flowed that over to an honest to goodness solid line in the Steelers, we do have hope for the future, though some of these parts have to be replaced due to impending old age.
What've I've noticed in these games I've broken down is that when Washington stops trying to be a 1-gap DT, our entire defensive unit plays better. When he tries to defeat a blocker and penetrate, everything starts to fall apart. Our defense really does start with the front-3. Our linebackers aren't gifted playmakers outside of Wimbley, so the interior has to control the line or Davis and Jackson aren't going to make tackles right now.
Yeah, our corners are playing well considering who they are. I can't envision a scenario where Baxter makes it back (not like he was playing well to begin with), so at least one of those guys will stick. Brown hasn't played that poorly either, and looks like he could make a good dime back.
Even though it'll be late, I will be doing the Steelers game. An uncorrupted copy is on the way.

well first we have to believe and act like LaCharles will be back ... we may as well as u can only fill so many holes at once .. but if in feb when FA begins were not sure on La we see what kind of offers Hanks gets and see if we can't work sumptin out with him for 1 year but we'll ahve the $$$$ ... just doubt Hank wold go for it as he's looking to get paid and if La comes back Hank loses alot when he goes to FA the following year .. so thats why we have to wait and see what Hank gets offered (unless he can play other positions and be a utility guy) and if we can work sumptin out if La isn't on track ...
secondly we need to see what FA's are out there ... we know there wont be any good LT's and more than likely not very good RT's .. so we need to focus on any potential gaurds .... where we may pick up a good player .. hopefully we get the opportunity to overpay for one above avg. gaurd and then go the cheap route on a 2nd one like (and god this hurts to say) maybe even re-signing Coleman for a year or two IF SOWELLS isn;t worth getting a hot ...
thirdly look at the draft .... we need to draft at least one OL on day 1 9the hogher the better) but alot of this depends on where we draft and whos available ... IDEALLY we'll get a LT ... if not a RT .. if not we best get a DECENT GAURD ... but its clear we need to start drafting OL as more than mere afterthoughts ..
it pains me to say this but next year it would shock me if Tuck and Shaff arent' back where there at now and DEPENDING on where we draft and whos available it may be the right thing to do ....
thats my plan ... what do u think???? *L*

Brown hasn't played that poorly either, and looks like he could make a good dime back. Brown, you say? From what I've watched this year, I'd keep Perry and then Holly before Brown.

thats my plan ... what do u think???? *L* First I think this has been a great thread. I record the games too and now I feel like I've seen it four times. I think Shaffer's a young player and hopefully he can learn to be an LT for a right-handed QB as I don't really see a drafted LT in our near future. I hope for one but doubt we'll get that shot. We never seem to. I see him doing some body blocks and wonder if that's what a LT is supposed to be doing. LG needs replaced. Some have seen Shaffer there if we do get an LT. I would like to get a LG from FA. I have no idea who is available, but if we drafted an OL on day one as we all hope, he's probably going first to RG if I understand the progression. If that's true, then LG won't come in the draft. At least not an immediate one and immediate is the need. Sowell's may work out at RG but who knows? Savage said they basically red-shirted him his rookie season. Perhaps they wanted a year to coach him before they took a shot with him. He was a LT in college. So I don't really know where they are projecting him playing. LG or RG? Maybe we'll find out next training camp. Coleman seems on the verge of crapping out, but he has been playing on a bum knee all season, (as has Andruzzi). That can't be good. To think, when Savage picked these two guards up, they missed a total of 4 games due to injury in their collective careers. Since they've been here they have each "had a knee" all season long. Playing hurt can't be all that effective. LCB is a real concern. What an unfortunate injury. I know it's been talked about on here a lot, but I still don't know what his chances are of coming back fully recovered if and when that might be. I would fear a re-injury. If Hank can man the center spot, and I think he can if he has upgraded guards, then LCB could play LG instead of spending the money on a FA. That's not an original thought of mine as many have said it before. But I do subscribe to it if Hank can handle being the center. I see a lot of good from Hank, but it's hard for me to judge him because the line is only going to be as good as it's weakest link and I think he has a weak link on either side of him. Tucker will be back. I think he still plays at a high level. He missed a lot of training camp following some surgury, and just as he was beginning to get back in form he contracted the mysterious injury that caused him to miss some games. Now he's been back for two games and should be getting back in the swing. He still has a year or two left. Good to see you posting Diam. Great thread again Toad. I love it. I don't even know why I'm posting. I've been content to just read these threads and see if others are seeing the same things I am. I don't have slo-mo, but I do have instant replay , sometimes I have to watch a play 8 or 9 times to really get a grip on what happened, who blocked who, who missed what, who allowed the sack and where the hell did that defender come from in the first place?!? These "upon further review" threads have given me a second, and in this case, third set of eyes to help me interpret what I'm seeing. I love that this thread didn't turn into a pissing match.

[color:"white"] I see him doing some body blocks and wonder if that's what a LT is supposed to be doing.

good LT's do it seldomly .. bd LT's do it all the time .. hes bad .. so he does it more than he should ....
also it wouldnt be so bad if he actuallty made the blocks ... u actually should have said he ATTEMPTS alt of body blocks ..
when we signed hm I thought (was hoping and praying) he could be moved to gaurd ... after seeing him I no longer feel this way .... he has ZERO POWER .. he can; tmove DE's off the line .. DT's would kill him ... we need him on the bench or someone elses team .... and eventually that will happen ...

Well...Sittin' here with the 2nd worst record in the league with 4 others doesn't say much after 10 games...We blew another one Sunday...I gotta believe we'll win another 2 and maybe 3 this year...
I see no way we'll be anywhere near even sniffin' this Thomas kid from Wisconsin...Top 4 material...Now if Baker of USC declares???...Anything can happen then with 2 premier LT's in the top 7...Seems we fall into this every year...Not high enuff for the Elite LT...Too STUPID at 15 or so to take the waiver on the STUD GUARD...
And there's ONE this year in Blalock of Texas...RT playing RG this year...And that is exactly where I would project em'...And again...A STUD GUARD prolly in the 15-20 range...We'll MISS YET AGAIN...
Jake Long of Michigan is another mid to late round 1 LT who I think will be a RT at the next level...Doesn't have the super duper lateral and feet for LT...But again...We'll miss because of where we're slotted...Same ole' BS different year...
We've got a problem because of the huge contracts for Shaffer & Bents...Do we allot a 3rd big contract for an OL???...I have no clue how Savage & Co percieve this...And Sowells is a NOBODY until proven otherwise...
There's 2 potential G's available if they get away...
Steinbach Manuwai
I see Shaffer and Tucker as our Tackles yet again...So concentrate on the INTERIOR of this line so we can develop some semblence of a damn running game and take the fricken pressure off Frye...I don't care if Northcutt flies the coup...We best not touch Ginn...
As a matter of fact I wouldn't touch the Offense unless Peterson is there or we just LOVE Lynch of Cal...
I agree with u on the Front 7...Specifically Linemen being had in rounds beyond one...Branch of Michigan is the STUD NT this year and is worthy of top 10...If he's there I'd bet he's a Brown...Do we go with another DE to OLB conversion in Gaines of Clemson???
While Steinbach's price gets bid up I'd concentrate on Manuwai and be done with LG...
Why Steinbach ain't a Brown is beyond me and just blows my mind...
We gotta Cover Our Collective Asses with Bentley...I ink Fraley to a multi-Year decent contract just in case...I also seriously think about inking Coleman to a 2 year deal at or near minimums for RG protection and preferably depth...
Worst case scenario would be an upgrade...Without Bents...
Shaffer/Manuwai/Fraley/Coleman & Sowells/Tucker
Best case scenario would make me do things I don't normally do...If by some wild chance a Blalock was sittin' there for us in Round 2 U SNAG EM' and answer questions later...There's your immediate RG and future RT replacement for Tuck...
Shaffer/Manuwai/Fraley/Blalock/Tucker
If Bents comes back we get even stronger...
Shaffer/Manuwai/Bents/Blalock/Tucker
And if Sowells pans out in year 3 u have numerous YOUNG TALENTED linemen playing TOGETHER for more than a year at a time...And an interior that would rival the Cowboys of the 90's...
Shaffer/Manuwai/Bentley/Sowells/Blalock...
I'm OFF THE LT thing because I think Savage is set on Shaffer even tho some don't agree with that...IMO Shaffer is the LT on this team for the foreseeable future...So concentrate on the MIDDLE...It ain't that hard to do...And can be done with simple moves...
Go Browns!!!

[color:"white"]I think you had a valid point with Shaffer...........before today's game.
If Savage leaves him out there for another year without having a really solid backup plan (not a backup player, a backup PLAN) in place, he needs to be fired.
It's been a looooooong time since I've seen one of our left tackles handled like that. He made Justin Smith look like Lawrence Taylor out there today.
