Joey Porter requests trade
February 1, 2010 5:25 PM ET, by Evan Silva
Appearing on ESPN's Jim Rome Show Monday, Dolphins outside linebacker Joey Porter said he wants to be traded."I don't get paid like a rotation guy," Porter said. "So I'm not ready to take that role. I'm still a starter. I can honestly say I won't come back to do that. Why keep a guy there that you want to make a role player?"
Just last week, PFT's Mike Florio reported that the team does not intend to bring Porter back anyway. Tony Sparano's coaching staff is sick of Porter refusing to come off the field when told. Porter was also deactivated for a November game for off-the-field reasons.
Porter, 33 in March, had nine sacks in 2009 and could probably still help a team as a pass rusher in the nickel defense. But he obviously believes he's more than a situational player. The trade market will be barren for Porter because of his attitude, so-so production, and relatively hefty contract.
Most likely, he will be released later this month.
For everyone that wants Peppers, I'd rather take a shot at a guy who has played in the 3-4, and probably would like to stick it to Pittsburgh.

he's got an awful alot of confidence for a guy who LeBeau and Parcells both thought needed a reduced role in their defenses at this stage of his career.
but, those guys must not know anything about what you need to run a 3-4 defense.

Don't forget old.
Why are people so hung up on age. early to mid 30s is not that old for a player. Outside of running backs most NFL players continue to get better in their 30s (Look at Clay Matthews and Ray Lewis) its not like he is approaching 40. If he can produce why not give him a shot its not like our young players are doing anything. Who cares about age

Joey Porter = Donkey!
No thanks, I still remember him out on the field during pregame warm ups yelling up to us that "he runs this %$&!@" then later in the game he ends up flying across the field thanks to K2!

I question why everyone calls him a cancer, sure he's a guy with an attitude, but everybody always claims they want our defense to have an attitude.
Because Pittsburgh didn't resign him when they never resign people, and because he wants to play more than Miami wants him to, that means he's a cancer?
If he's still got something I don't see why not.
I don't see it happening though.

Why would Porter even come to cleveland, it would only take a few minutes to dig up the trash talking that he threw this way.
He would have to eat a lot of words, mostly from steelers.
Welcome back, Joe, we missed you!

He was probably the biggest scumbag on a team of scumbags. I wouldn't sign that d-bag if he were just coming out of college.
I HATE that jerk. @ 33, causing all kinds of trouble for his last team and refusing to be a team guy, you'd have to be nuts to sign a guy like that.
We spent a whole year purging the team of jerks like him. No way they bring him in here.

well... while I personally don't think I'd WANT him (at least not unless it was a LOW salary for a low risk opportunity) .... don't forget the dolphins didn't want matt roth either ....
doesnt mean they aren't great evaluators of talent ... but it doesnt mean that they wont let a guy slip through either ..

I was thinking about Joey Porter today suprisingly. And that was before this article.
Anyway, what I was thinking about was how much of a punk he was to have to fight Levi Jones with his boys. Joey Porter talks a lot of trash and respects nobody. He is not tough, he is a punk and a thug. And if it comes down to it pre-game, I hope someone like Lawerence Vickers handles his business and puts him in his place.
Definitely not a Mangini guy, want nothing to do with him. I would like to see no team sign him so he can retire and be forgetten. Not an NFL HOFer, he'll be out of many people's minds in no time.

The Browns need good players with class- -Not an aging ex- All-Pro who's crass... ...And got punked by K2, (On yard line 42....) ...And was dumped on his shrapnel-filled ass.
thank you.... I'll pass on this FA waste of money.

There is a big difference between WANTING to play as much as possible and whining when you don't get to play as much as you want.

So you'll take someone who you don't even know can play the position for twice if not three times the money?
Um ok...
I question, not putting words in anyones mouth specifically, but I assume the some of the people that mocked Jamal Lewis, called him and drug dealer and a thug, loved him during 2007.
Would Porter still be a thug and a cancer if he came in an had 13 sacks and helped us win games?

Crazy.
That kid is just as much a punk in New York as he was here. It took him exactly 5 games to start bitching about his team.
Our team was made better by the subtraction of that fool.

Peppers, yeah. This one, NO to Porter. Willing to wreck current team, so he will screwe the stranger picks him up. Old, poison, and diminishing. Gotta get beyond being the NFL Elephant Graveyard (Raiders have that sewn up).

After further consideration, I don't want Porter. I only thought about his physical attributes when thinking about him on this team. I forgot the guy is an idiot. Not only that, but his attitude would never fly with Mangini.

Porter declined to visit with Cleveland the first time he was a FA. I doubt he would even give the team a chance if he did get a call from the team.

I see the Raiders in his future. He was raised in Bakersfield, which is in central California, about 5 hours separate the two cities by car.

this is wierd,, they cut Porter then had to bring him back because of a salary cap issuen. I thought we were headed to an uncapped year? I am really confused... http://www.nfl.com/news/story?id=09000d5...mp;confirm=true Quote:
Salary-cap problem prevents Porter's release from Dolphins for now NFL.com Wire Reports
Joey Porter's wish was granted -- for a little while.
The Miami Dolphins released the four-time Pro Bowl linebacker Friday, then had to place him back on their roster about three hours later because of a salary-cap issue.
Releasing Porter would have put the Dolphins over the cap. According to NFL Network's Jason La Canfora, the team could release another player to clear enough space to be able to cut Porter before a possible uncapped year begins March 5.
The Dolphins declined to elaborate on why Porter couldn't be cut, as did NFL spokesman Greg Aiello, who called it "a club matter." Porter still is expected to be released or traded in the next few weeks.
Porter said last week that he wanted to be released, not traded, by the Dolphins because he was frustrated about his reduced role with the team. Porter also doubted that his relationship with coach Tony Sparano could be repaired, and he said he had stopped speaking with general manager Jeff Ireland and football czar Bill Parcells.
"I asked the coach if that was the situation you planned on using me, just let me leave. I don't want to be traded nowhere," Porter said. "If you don't want me to play full time, just make it easy on both of us and release me. I'm not asking for no more money. I'm not asking for nothing different. I'm just asking to play. If I can't do that for you, then why you want to keep me there, knowing that I'm unhappy? Bringing that negative vibe?"
Porter then appeared on NFL Network's Super Bowl pregame show and said he wanted no part of the Dolphins' youth movement.
"If it was a situation where the guys were better than me, then you just have to move on," he said. "But if it's not a changing of the guard, they just have to sit and wait their turn. Nobody is that good enough behind me to be stepping on my toes."
Porter originally signed with the Dolphins as a free agent on March 7, 2007, signing a five-year deal for $32 million, with $20 million guaranteed. In his time with the Dolphins, Porter started all but three games, registering 32 sacks, including a career-high and AFC-leading 17.5 in 2008.
However, things went south in 2009, when Porter -- who was slowed by a sore right hamstring -- missed two games, including being benched less than 24 hours before kickoff for a Week 10 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers because of a coach's decision.
"It was because I went out to get something to eat from 9 to 10:30 (two nights before the game)," Porter said about the benching. "I've never heard that before -- telling a grown man what to do on a Friday night."
From that point on, Porter's playing time diminished. Porter was angered after being replaced by pass-rush specialist Cameron Wake in some situations.
"I'm an every-down player," Porter said. "I'm supposed to be out on the field when the game's on the line. I was on the sideline in the fourth quarter cheering. ...
"My mind wouldn't be there because I'm frustrated that I'm on the sideline. It's hard for me to accept that after being in the Pro Bowl just a year ago. Now all of a sudden I'm taking a back seat -- for who and for what?"
The Dolphins' defense deteriorated at the end of the season, and the team failed to make the playoffs, finishing 7-9. Porter's sack total in 2009 fell to nine, still the Dolphins' high, and he was named to the NFL's All-Decade team for the 2000s in January.
The Associated Press contributed to this report.
What's funny,, didn't we just swap Cap Specialists/contracts negotiators with Miami.. They got Dawn Aponte and we got Thomas
Quote:
Salary-cap experts Thomas, Aponte trade Browns, Dolphins jobs Associated Press
CLEVELAND -- The Cleveland Browns and Miami Dolphins have swapped salary-cap experts.
On Monday, the Browns hired Matt Thomas as their vice president of football administration. He replaces Dawn Aponte, who accepted the position of senior vice president of football operations with the Dolphins.
Thomas spent 12 seasons with the Dolphins, most recently serving as a vice president. In Miami, he worked under president Bryan Wiedmeier, who recently joined the Browns as their executive vice president of business operations.
Aponte spent one year with the Browns and was their chief negotiator on contracts. She previously served on the NFL's management council and also worked for the New York Jets with Bill Parcells, her new boss in Miami.
Just thought this was funny... maybe it's nothing...

No thanks. This cancerous poison disrespecting his current team offers high-priced baggage and problems just like we got rid of. Overaged, overpriced, and needs to go to the Elephant Graveyard. I think that's about right. That last part might be a referance to releasing Porter and then un-releasing him.
