Prp...that would make you one of the few who thought it was a good idea too, but if you remember, many thought Rogers just loved playing in Cleveland and no way should the Browns even think about trading Rogers.

Like I said, that debate was fueled by the article that pointed out that the defense played well late in the season even though Rogers was on IR.

I'd trade Williams for Corn on the Cob.
He's out of positon here and needs to go to a 43defense.

No Mac. Really the debate was all about you saying that you didn't think Rogers was happy in Cleveland and everyone saying that your evidence to support that notion (that Rogers wasn't happy) was outdated and meaningless. That was the issue, not trading Shaun Rogers, it was your statement that he was unhappy in cleveland, which was based off only your own speculation and OLD evidence.

Most people agreed that in the right circumstances, trading Rogers away for the right compensation would be a good idea.

If Heckert thinks that Kolb is better than what we have and is worth a 2nd round pick, i'd be fine with that decision. Same thing with Rogers (who i view as worth an early 2nd round pick), if Kolb is worth an early 2nd round pick, then we could trade away Rogers also.

We do need a new QB, but I don't really know too much about Kevin Kolb. His action has been limited, many QBs look good on the Eagles for short time periods (AJ Feely, Koy Detmer) and this makes me nervous about Kolb. But I'm not in a major rush to upgrade the QB spot, we can use a lot of new talent at many different positions which will make us much better. And we could also draft Clausen or Bradford instead of trading away for Kolb

I'd rather give up our 1st round pick from this year's draft than the 2011 draft. 2011 is likely to be the first draft with a slotting system, making the picks more valuable.

This draft is stupid deep in Safeties & Corners, two things we desperately need several of. Our pick this year is also a very, very high pick.

I'd rather trade away next year's which stands to be a much lower pick.

11th season...played 14 games last year...the guy has only played 4 full seasons in 11 years. His average is 13 games a season. If we get him, we better have a great back up (which we don't) . And besides, he'll be 30 in November. With his bum ribs and our o-line on the right side....I dunno...

So you are saying since we don't have a legit backup we shouldn't go get a proven winner as a starter? We don't have a ligit STARTER let alone back up. It's insane to not look at McNabb. Even if he gives us "only" 13 games (his average) we have a much better shot of winning 50%, or better, of those than without him. Regardless of who's holding the clipboard on the sideline.

He's not 100% dependable and he has injury problems, historically. Sure, anything is better then what we have now, but I think we could do much better. He's not a long term solution. I seem to remember a lot of folks screaming on here, "Yeah! We got him!" when some fellow from...ummm...let me see here...San Francisco...came to Cleveland. Remember him? I think he was in Philly in 2006 and again in 2009.

Jeff Garcia was a good QB for us, I don't care what anyone says.

I'm not sure why we let him go, either. He was the best QB we've had since Bernie by a very wide margin...too bad we didn't have a coach or team that could utilize him at the time.

You'd be average too if your coach tried to fit a square peg in a round hole with you.

No audibles? C'mon, Terry Robiskie!

Garcia actually started to play better once they started using more rollouts and pocket movement...then our already poor line got hurt and that sent everything straight to hell.

Conventional NFL wisdom says that the value of any given draft slot loses one round in value if the selection is for the following season.

Considering we're not likely to be a good team in 2010, that would mean the odds are likely that acquiring Kolb would be valued at an early 2nd round pick.

My open-ended question is this: Have many of you seen enough of Kolb to form an honest opinion?

Rogers for Kolb............that would make me think. Next year's 1st rounder? I saw Kolb play numerous times in college, but very little as a pro. I haven't seen enough of him to be comfortable doing that trade..........

Petey...yea, you were on that ship, weren't you...the SS Rogers Love Boat.

BTW...I posted more evidence that Rogers was not happy here in Cleveland than you or any of the other Rogers lovers ever posted saying he was happy as hell in Cleveland. Some of the Rogers lovers just didn't like my evidence and rather than accept it, made up the excuse that it was old evidence...lol

Regardless...like I pointed out, I would trade Rogers fat butt in a heart beat...and that's the bottom line...I'm not in love with anyone on the roster.

LOL no,, wasn't the captain of that ship,, not sure I was onboard really..

Just an FYI,, I, for better or worse, have faith in this new managment team led by Holmgren.

If by some chance they are able to trade anything for anything, I'm more than likely going to accept it blindly for the time being. I know that that's not an acceptable avenue for many of you to take,, and I get that.. but I'm gonna float down that river in the good ship Holmgren...

Is he not the guy that filled in for McNabb the one year where he missed most of the season and they just kept right on winning and the offense kept right on clicking?

That was Garcia. Kolb has played in 12 games in 3 years starting 2. He had an 88.9 QB rating in 2009 and a 21.8 rating in 2008.

He (Kolb) may be a good QB but by these numbers I don't know how anyone could be getting too excited just yet.

McNabb got hurt the first game of the year against Carolina, Kolb filled in the loss against NO and a win versus KC.

He looked decent enough to me. Certainly better than Quinn or Anderson, but then the Browns didn't have Celek, Jackson and Macklin to throw to either.

We have very little to go on as far as Kolb. He has started 2 games, games 2 and 3 this year, after McNabb went down with an injury. The Eagles had an early bye and McNabb returned after the bye.

The Eagles also were dealing with problems on the offensive line at the time, and Kolb's first start ever was against the Saints, who were playing lights out. Kolb put up 300 yards and kept the game close in the first half, but the Saints prevailed. Kolb had 3 INT's in that game, but 2 of them were in the late part of the game where the Eagles were trying to catch up with the long ball from far behind. The first one, though, was very poor judgment on Kolb's part. Still, it was his first start, against a great team.

Kolb also put up 300 yards in a winning effort against KC the following week.

Under Kolb, the Eagles ran a crisper offense, he's an accurate passer, he has good technical ability.

I'm not sure what the Eagles want to do. They have 3 QB's in McNabb, Kolb, and Vick, all going into the last year of their contracts (if Vick's option is picked up, that is). I'm sure Reid knows what he wants to do, but he's not saying, and fans in Philadelphia are split between McNabb and Kolb.

Most people think that either McNabb or Kolb will be traded, though there is no guarantee of even that.

As far as whether Shaun Rogers would be a good fit for the Eagles, I think he would be. The Eagles defense, though 4-3, has moved over the last few years to a system where the tackles are ideally bigger guys who can occupy a blocker or two, and no longer smaller, faster guys going after the QB on the snap.

Most actually think both will return, but that doesn't drive interest, so speculation that one or the other could be traded persists.

They probably will not be able to extend both as Kolb wants a chance to start and McNabb isn't going to hang around as his backup. So if they don't want to lose one or the other for nothing at the end of 2010, or have to use a very expensive franchise tag, they will most likely want to make a trade if it gives them an opportunity to improve the team some other way.

Lombardi's proposed trade makes sense to me, but I have no idea what the Eagles are thinking, either about which QB they are going to use in 2010, or about whether they are interested in Shaun Rogers.

Sometimes the simplest answer is the correct one, and in this case that answer would be in response to the following question:

Which guy gives them the best chance to win a Super Bowl this year?

That is clearly McNabb.

It would be a severe gamble to jettison him and install Kolb as the starter. While Kolb may eventually be a good QB, it's extremely unlikely he'd be able to produce at a Super Bowl level.

Beyond that aspect of this, Kolb has no leverage. He is under contract for another year, and cannot demand anything. The Eagles own and control him without any worries. Besides, he knows he has the keys to the car when McNabb moves on.

Getting back to McNabb, any team that trades for him would only be getting him for one year. As a result, they'd be unlikely to get a high pick for him. Furthermore, the team trading for him would have to deal with McNabb wanting a contract extension, and while McNabb is still a very good QB, he's been injury prone in recent years and won't be long for this league.

Last but not least, even though McNabb gives them a Super Bowl caliber QB, the Eagles need insurance. Kolb makes the most sense as the future signal caller of the team. I sincerely doubt Vick plays a role in their plans as a future starter.

Lombardi is doing what he's paid to do this time of year: Stir the pot and keep people interested in the NFL. Talking potential trades is how these guys stay employed.

The odds of the Eagles sending either McNabb or Kolb packing are slight.

You aren't sure which way the Eagles are leaning.............Reid has stated he intends on McNabb being his starter. There isn't much left to interpret with that statement.

The guy I was thinking of - not Garcia - was a 3rd stringer that filled in for an extended period on season (perhaps 2006?) and they rode him to the playoffs.

In looking at those stats, it was definitely not Kolb, so he isn't the guy I was thinking of. Based on that, I fully retract ALL of what I said as far as what I would give up to get the guy.

The new millennium would see Donovan McNabb take over the Eagles starting quarterback job for the rest of the decade, only relinquishing it due to injury. The primary backup quarterbacks during this time were Koy Detmer, A.J. Feeley, Jeff Blake, Mike McMahon, Jeff Garcia, and Kevin Kolb.

McMahon (2005) went 2-5, 2006 was the year of Garcia, so I would bet you are thinking of Feeley who went 4-1 and lead them into the playoffs (only to have McNabb come back for the first playoff game) (2002)

I should have been a little more concise by saying that any player in this league is available if enough draft picks are thrown at his team. If we throw two 1st rounders at the Eagles for Kolb they'd probably bite. God forbid we'd do such a thing but the point is made............

A Kolb-Rogers trade with the Browns is a win for both teams.

QUOTE: “Every man in the world is better than someone else and not as good as someone else.” -- William Saroyan

When Mike Holmgren first went to Green Bay in 1992, the first personnel action the organization took was to make a trade for quarterback Brett Favre. Even though Favre was drafted in the second round, Packers GM Ron Wolf and Holmgren both thought enough of him to part with a first-round pick to acquire him from the Falcons. Then, when Holmgren moved to Seattle, he took some time before he made another trade for a quarterback, acquiring Matt Hasselbeck from his former team, the Packers. Hasselbeck was originally a sixth-round pick, but Holmgren was more than willing to pay a first-rounder for his rights because he knew the centerpiece of the organization had to be the quarterback. Now, with Holmgren in Cleveland and again faced with uncertainty at quarterback, the question remains: What will he do at quarterback?

Is the draft an option, or is making a trade? I’m not sure the draft is a viable option for the Browns, based on the talent available. With all the recent speculation, it appears that trade rumors are running rampant in Cleveland, many centering on the Philadelphia Eagles. The Birds have two quarterbacks (Donovan McNabb and Kevin Kolb) who may be of interest to Holmgren and his new general manager, Tom Heckert, who also came from Philadelphia. In spite of all the talk, it would be hard for me to imagine that McNabb would not agree to a contract extension to join the Browns, nor would it be hard to imagine the Browns would trade for McNabb without an extension. So that leads me to believe if the Browns have interest in an Eagles quarterback, it would have to center mostly on Kolb. Heckert loved Kolb when he was in Philadelphia, was responsible for drafting him and can accurately describe him to Holmgren with regard to work habits, character and, most important, his potential as a full-time starter.

So what’s Kolb worth? I’m sure if the Browns offered their first-round pick, the seventh overall, they would get the Eagles’ full attention. But do they have to offer that much? Better yet, is Kolb worth that much? The Eagles might say that’s not enough, but they also once said they’d never take less than a two for Lito Sheppard, so we know if the Browns offered that pick, the deal is done. I strongly doubt that will happen, but what if the Browns offered Pro Bowl nose tackle Shaun Rogers for Kolb?

Don’t laugh. This kind of deal would allow the Eagles to close the gap between them and the Cowboys. Even Eagles president Joe Banner admitted Tuesday in his talk with the team’s Web site that there’s a gap. Here’s what he said: “I don’t think the difference is as dramatic as one may think just looking at the scores of those two games, but there is a gap there. We have to figure out how to close that gap and be ready to go next year.” For me, the gap is in the Eagles defense, specifically their front seven where, other than Trent Cole, they don’t have a player who can win a one-on-one matchup against the Cowboys’ line.

Rogers would be a gap closer on the field. He would give the Eagles a dominating inside player, something they don’t currently have on their roster and someone who can match up with the Cowboys’ size along their offensive line. Rogers is signed to a long-term deal, he’s kept his weight down and he was a model citizen in Cleveland last season — all of which would be appealing to the Eagles. Kolb gives the Browns a future quarterback, something Holmgren knows he needs, without having to part with a draft pick. This trade might be a win/win for both teams.

If the Eagles add Rogers and then sign potential free agent defensive end Julius Peppers of the Panthers (they were not a final-eight team, so they can sign anyone), they would do more that close the gap on the Cowboys -- they would pass them. The Eagles will be one of the teams pursuing Peppers since his kind of game would fit perfectly with their defense and give them a blue-chip front seven player.

If the Eagles make these two moves, they’ll be a final four team next season, regardless of what they do in the draft. In fact, they can use the draft to help them find a young quarterback to replace the departed Kolb. They know they must close the gap, which is the first step.

These moves make sense to me. What do you think?

But how can this be? We all know he is terribly unhappy being a Brown, and when he's unhappy, he becomes a distraction, doesn't play hard, and eats his way to the point where Jaba the Hut looks like he's been doing the South Beach Diet!

Gotta love the speculative articles this time of year. We get more drama from them than any housewife gets from Days of Our Lives...........

I would do Kolb for Rogers straight up if Kolb is the real deal. Hopefully we would be able to keep our 1st and 2nd, and we could use of those picks to draft a starting RT to protect our new QB and help guarentee us a consistent running game.

No matter what, if we get a new QB this year, upgrading RT is going to be necessary. I've found that most FA tackles suck, at least FA Left Tackles do (Right tackles i'm not that sure of and I'm still wondering who the FA RT class is going to be) But a real RT is necessary, someone at least at Schaffer's level, and definitely someone much better than St. Clair.

Ryan Tucker was a free agent Right Tackle... and he was exceptional.
Like any other position, it just boils down to what teams have, what they can afford to keep and what they are forced to let go.... every year is different.

Very true, and that's the kind of player i'm looking to get to fill the RT spot this season for us.

It would be very frustrating to have bad play on the right side of the O-Line as an excuse for bad production from QBs, RBs, and WRs. If there is someone like Ryan Tucker available who is willing to play on our team, then that's one less worry in the draft this year.

I just want to recognize that no matter which young QB we have playing, RT is a position that needs to be addressed somehow in someway for us to get quality play out of our offense. And it can't be a bad fix, it has to be a real solution.

I do agree that Williams is out of position in the 3-4 and he is up around the $8 million a year price range. After being franchised by GB, Savage made the trade for him and then gave him a big contract for over 3 years. Right off hand I would say 5 years. Williams was hurt the first year and was disappointed last year when he wasnt starting. But when Rogers went down, Williams was the guy who was the benefactor of receiving more playing time. The defense played better and Williams was the d-lineman who created the most havoc behind the LOS.

Not saying it was all Williams and that he outplayed Rogers, but I also think that Rob Ryan was allowed to unleash the hounds and play more of his own style of defense. After going 1-11 and a couple key defenders(Jackson, Rogers) got placed on IR, Mangini finally let Ryan have the defenders pin their ears back and blitz more. I could be wrong, but as a Belicheck disciple, I think Mangini is more of a Zone read and react 3-4 guy. Like Crennel seemed to be. Belicheck has always stated that sacks arent important and is one of the most overrated stats. To me, Ryan seems more like an attacking 3-4 defense that I like to see. Like his brother and Lebeau, a 3-4 guy that wants to put pressure, disguise blitzes, and dictate what the offense does. The Browns defense dont have the experiance or playmakers to read and react. More attacking the offense and make the offense make mistakes.

Maybe with the emergence of Williams when he finally did get playing time, is one reason the Browns would consider parting ways with Rogers.

IMO, trading for McNabb is a huge upgrade. Especially if they only have to give up players and not high draft picks. That would mean DA is outta hear. I was never a fan of the Quinn pick, especially after holding out. But he is better than DA, in this offense, and not even half the price. Then draft a QB in the mid 3rd to 5th round to be an upgrade over Ratcliff and possible groomed QB of the future. I didnt even think Ratcliff beat out Barnes for the 3rd QB job.

One reason I really dont want the Browns to give up picks for McNabb and more willing for them to give up Rogers is because McNabb would have a small window here. 3 years tops? Granted he almost annually took Philly to the playoffs without weopens, but the Browns have alot of holes they need filled besides QB. Hopefully they make Cribbs happy and re-sign Harrison, Vickers, Jackson, Roth and Furrey with his versitility. If they happen to re-sign all those guys, they still need 3 guys in the secondary, a WR or 2, 1 or 2 guys on the right side of the line, and Im up in the air as to what to do about the LBs. Wimbley will be back, Bowens impressed as an ILB, Barton will be back but Id rather see him come off the bench, and we dont know if they will have Roth and/or Jackson next year. None of those 5 LBs just mentioned are "game changers" or "play makers" but Im satisfied with them enough to have them back next year to address other needs.

just clicking...

I'm listening to Mike & Mike this morning and they touched on the Kolb to the Browns story and they did not poopoo the story but claimed that Mike Vick was not really in the mix at Philly, despite the Feb 2 story from Michael Lombardi, claiming the Eagles were keeping Vick.

If the Eagles do not keep Vick and are considering a deal with the Browns for Kolb or McNabb, it might mean that Quinn or Anderson are part of a deal.

Quinn or Anderson, plus Shaun Rogers...for Kevin Kolb???

I would do it and "hope" the Browns get another player or low round draft pick from the Eagles.

I keep asking myself,, why would the Eagles let Kolb get away... What is there plan for McNabbs back up?

If someone can tell me what thier plan is to back up McNabb,, and if it's reasonable then maybe I could be convinced they would let Kolb out of the nest...

By the way,, I don't think I would buy into Vick being the back up.
