just clicking...
I'm listening to Mike & Mike this morning and they touched on the Kolb to the Browns story and they did not poopoo the story but claimed that Mike Vick was not really in the mix at Philly, despite the Feb 2 story from Michael Lombardi, claiming the Eagles were keeping Vick.
If the Eagles do not keep Vick and are considering a deal with the Browns for Kolb or McNabb, it might mean that Quinn or Anderson are part of a deal.
Quinn or Anderson, plus Shaun Rogers...for Kevin Kolb???
I would do it and "hope" the Browns get another player or low round draft pick from the Eagles.
I'm not wanting to give up a starting defensive lineman for Kolb. We need a quarterback, this is true, but I'm not sure trading Rogers is such a hot idea. Since this year's draft is kind of thin on QB talent I'd maybe consider our 1st round pick for Kolb before unloading Rogers. Is Kolb the only option? I'm thinking not.
Anderson? He's getting cut. We're spending far too much money for what we're seeing out of him.

DA is good as gone. I would gladly give up rogers for Kolb. Not sure thats all it would take to land Kolb though. I would not give up our 1st rd pick though.

Backup QB options:
Derek Anderson on a re-worked contract? ok, probably not.
Tavaris Jackson as a FA sign (he has played WCO in Minny at least), more likely.
I don't think the problem Philly would have is their backup QB....i think the problem they would have is balancing short-term goals (winning superbowl) with long term goals (who will their QB be for the next 10 years)

Just thinking out loud here.. On DA: All we've heard from Holmgren is that he had a great game against the seahawks.... I'm of the opinion that he'll be cut, but there are no guarantees. On Quinn: It all depends on what Holmgren sees.. and the last time he spoke on the subject, Holmgren said he hadn't looked closely enough. To me that is the kiss of death.. On McNabb: I think he ends up in Minnesota if Favre retires.. On Kolb: I get the feeling he's considered the future in Philly so I'd say he's off limits On Vick: He stays in Philly as an insurance policy ON ?: Otherwise known as the "Unknown'.. I'm convinced that there is a QB out there that we aren't thinking about and who hasn't been brought up that Holmgren and/or Heckert has thier eye on. That's our future starter... The above is my best guess., I reserve the right to change my mind at a moments notice as new information becomes available.....

For the amount of money Anderson is going to cost the team (more than $9 million) he's either a starter or a goner. There aren't any in-between's when that kind of money is involved.
Holmgren is playing his cards right by not saying anything negative about any players, but his skillfully crafted persona showed a fissure when he said great things about Cribbs. By saying good things about one player while saying he had to take a longer look at Quinn on film he DID give him a very bad signal. It wasn't a true "kiss of death" but it was neither an endorsement nor a viable excuse benefiting Quinn.
As it stands right now, I'm laughing my arse off at all the media talk regarding McNabb, Kolb, and the Eagles. The media..............and specifically Sal Palantonio...........have built this to be EXACTLY what they want it to be. Despite the Eagles, through the mouth of Andy Reid, saying that both guys will be back, Sal and Pals are stirring the pot. Can either guy be had? OF COURSE! Who wouldn't trade a QB for three 1st round picks Any player in this league can be had for the right price. Remember, it was Sal Pal who EMPHATICALLY stated a couple of years ago that the McNabb era was over.
Except he was dead wrong and is still wiping egg off his face for that one. Still, that hasn't stopped them from getting right back up on that horse.
If the Eagles want to win the Super Bowl this next year they know it'll be because McNabb is at QB, not Kolb. The learning curve for a new guy is just too steep. Furthermore, by knowing McNabb gives them by far the best chance to win, they also know he's fragile these days and they need insurance. That's Kolb.
Unless the Eagles are knocked over with a big offer this is a story only because the media has made it one.

Tavaris Jackson is a restricted free agent. And is terrible. And we don't run the West Coast Offense.

Exactly my point. if he's here, he's starting. otherwise, he's a gonner.

Which is why I think it IS the kiss of death. no way does holmgren come here without having reviewed hours of tape on Quinn and DA... But says all those nice things about Cribbs.. not after saying that the QB is the most important position....
I've never believed that the eagles would let Kolb go for any reasonable offer. (an extreme as you pointed out,,three 1st rounders,, yeah, sure)
I've always felt that vick is gonna be there for another year.

I would hesitate at giving up a proven, talented D lineman for an unproven QB. I would definitely not give up more.

ok, maybe not....but Schott in NY ran a power run-based offense, but the passing tree was WCO-style. we took that same style here with Daboll, but notice we went away from the power-running near the end of the year and featured more zone-blocking
that OL blocking shift leads me to believe that Daboll is open to change to do what works best....with Holmgren and Haskell on-board, I am leaping to the assumption he will use their knowledge to help continue building our offense. Even if it is not a true-WCO, I expect the QB-reads and throws to be very similar.
I could be wrong of course......
also, Tavaris is no worse than DA as a backup....terrible as a starter, but has enough talent to give a boost off the bench when called on. and we were only talking backup QBs.

I wonder if Holmgren has considered Cribbs at QB? He's got the arm and accuracy, and has the absolutely perfect amount of athleticism for a WCO style "running" QB... all that remains is whether they feel he can make the throws and have the intelligence to learn the system.

I don't know if he's ever considered him for that...
does he really have the accuracy?
The other thing is if you make him your starting QB.. you really have to take him away from what made his career thus far.. Just a thought

I'm pretty sure that everyone would prefer to see Cribbs play quarterback rather than see DA play ever again.

Outside the box? Purp, I don't think you can even see the box from where that tought is.
Not sure about that, does he have accuracy? The only throw I remember him making in the pros was a pick that would have made DA blush.

With as much ability as Cribbs has in certain areas of the game ... and with the positive press he gets because of his special teams play .... added into his success in the Wildcat ...... and the coupled with the fact that this team is severely QB deficient ...... if he had even the slightest possibility of being a QB, the team would almost certainly have tried it.
How much QB did Cribbs play when we were down to Dorsey and Gradkowski? If he didn't see the field as a QB in those desperat times ..... it's hard to imagine a time he would.

Cribbs at QB?? C'mon guys! I mean the big show is in town but that doesn't mean the team has to be a circus.
I like the idea of McNabb in town. As someone stated earlier, I wanted him over Couch too. It may have been a rough road for Donovan here instead of Philly, but ya never know.

The throw was terrible though, and what's worse is that Quinn fought for the ball better than our receivers do.

there is no need to romanticize a trick play that only caught the other team by surprise.

I don't know his status. But someone like him is what I'm saying.. someone that hasn't been talked about. Someone that is sitting behind an established starter that isn't going anywhere.. that kinda person...

Isn't that the only way to watch a Browns game?
