He doesn't have the speed or quickness that Jamal did. He's too slow footed.

I've said before, Gerhart reminds me of a young Jamal Lewis.
that's funny because I was going to say the same thing about Ryan Matthews.
I like our RB options on the second day of this draft (2nd day is 3rd round and later still, right?)

Gerhart doesn't have the speed that the "young" Jamal Lewis had.
Blount is more similar to the "young" JL. Thats why I want him more.

Jamal Lewis ran a 4.58 40 yard dash in 2000. The year he came out of college. Gerhart will run pretty much the same 40 time.

Gerhart is just as fast as Jamal Lewis on the field.

We'll see, but there is a reason Jamal went top 10 and Gerhat is a 3rd rounder at best.

anyone know of a good site for college stats.....
i wanted to compare "long runs" between Jamal and Gerhart to see if there on field speed really has been a difference.
thanks.

So how about you tell us what it is Deep? Folks are right...you've been a bit arrogant in draft discussion lately. How about you start backing up with fact rather than just telling people they fail?
I'm willing to give you cred as an informed poster but how about you back it up like you typically do.

I have backed it up several times. He doesn't have the speed, quickness or bust to be successful IMO.

Their's an easy way to end that. Just make sig bets with him. I have plenty of Tebow sigs to go around.

All sig bets I make exclude any picks made by Al Davis, and I will not be making any prior to January in the future.

I would like someone to back up the Gerhart/Tebow/Rolle love with some fact other than the kid is a winner and plays hard. DT is 100% right on this one. Comparing Lewis in college and Gerhart is a futile arguement, they dont compare at all. Lewis = FAR superior prospect and I would challenge anyone to find some real scout's take on him to which they think he deserves a top 2 round grade.

Gerhart can be good in the league.. but to compare him to Jamal Lewis is a no no.
Gerhart is a bruiser.. No doubt.. But he doesn't have the speed to dominate in the league.
Legarette Blount is my pick. Watch the youtube highlights and see how fast Blount hits the hole.

I do agree that Jamal was a superior prospect which is why he went, what, 5th overall that year. All I was saying is that I'd like to see people put forth ideas apart from what they read on draft sites...especially when the person who is espousing the wisdom was six years old when Jamal was drafted.
The main difference that I see between Jamal and Gerhart is not top end speed, its the speed of the feet...the little steps. This is something Jamal had, allowing him to be a big back with a deceptive amount of wiggle. Gerhart doesn't really have this...he looks to be more of a long strider.
What Gerhart does have is a good burst to the hole and nice vision to go along with the boom he can provide being 235 pounds. If he runs well at the combine, he could potentially go second round.
That being said, I don't think he'll be a great one. A good one perhaps with an ok career but not great.

One thing I have to say about Gerhart, is that I could be eating crow about his ability to be a big name back.
The guy DOES have skill. Anyone can see that. And believe it or not.. I think he has a good shot at being a Brown.

Matthews will be better than either of them.
But, if his draft grade continues to keep going up, he may be gone by the time we come up in the second.
Ask Boise State who they think is a better back, Matthews or Blount?
not even close.

There is no way this regime takes a db this high. No way. We're going to get a qb, or an ot, or we're gonna trade back.

I vehemently disagree.
I see zero chance of us going OT. Right tackles are rarely drafted top 15, let alone top 10. Add in the amount of needs the Browns have, and I see no chance.
The fact of the matter is that it sounds like the Browns love Haden. Where there's this much smoke, there's fire. Our secondary is a huge need, and you know Mangini will be pushing for a DB.
Heckert has typically drafted for BPA, and Holmgren did that quite often as well.
If Berry and Bradford are gone, I fully expect the pick to be Haden, But even Haden may be gone by then, assuming he has the big combine that is expected of him.

One of the old standards was that when you're talking about a very high pick.......say top-10 or even better........the most important positions are LT, QB, and CB. So I would be surprised if we took a RT, Berry, a RB, or even McClain (and keep in mind I'd prefer McClain over Berry, which is unpopular, hehe).
Since we have a LT, that'd leave QB and CB. As bad as I think Quinn is, I can make an argument that he and his play is tougher to evaluate than McDonald's, so replacing a McDonald may be more vital than replacing Quinn with the 7th pick. It's worth noting that Haden is unquestionably the highest rated CB in this draft. As with my opinion regarding Berry, I'd rather take the more unpopular stance and take Bradford instead of Haden.
Taking a right-tackle with the 7th pick would be a pretty big reach on the part of Holmgren and Heckert. I think there'll be just too many higher ranked players available to us at 7.

Only part I disagree with you on is the probability of us taking Berry. Not only is Berry thought of as corner by many teams, but when a player is at his caliber, he breaks the general rules.
He is the consensus #3 player in the draft, at a huge position of need for the Browns. I think he's the pick if available.

Yeah, I'm going against the consensus opinion regarding Berry. I'm not sharing the opinion that he's going to be moved to corner. It could happen, but I don't think teams that would throw huge dollars at him will screw around with making him change positions. Being a Safety got him here, so I tend to believe that's where he'll stay. Making a guy who has earned his reputation facing the football turn around and put his back to it is risky.

Well, he was the #1 CB recruit coming out of high school. It seems like UT (yes Toad and other Austinites, the 'other' UT) moved him over to safety just because he's such an impact player and he has more of a chance to be in on every play at S. I'd keep him at safety, too... but I think he could be an upper-echelon corner.

I'd rather go with a SS at #7 than a db. - SS has to cover more of the field.

1) Eric Berry 2) Brandon Spikes 3a) Brandon Ghee
Best thing that could happen for the Brown's defense.

How about we add Alex Carrington with pick 3b?
Of course we would be totally neglecting our offense, but what an upgrade to our defense if somehow we got all 4 of these guys.
Am I perfect? No Am I trying to be a better person? Also no

I was thinking we go:
3b) BPA or Best Tackle Available 4) Blount, HB 5a) LeFevour, QB 5b) Sergio Render, Guard
