Not too hard? When you've been playing games since the 80's, it's a little difficult to narrow it down.....man I'll have to think a while on this one.

Ok, well this is just a quick list I threw together. I'm sure if I sat here I could come up with a couple other names. So maybe I'll revise it later, but here's mine....

1. SOCOM 2: U.S. Navy Seals
2. Madden franchises
3. Duke Nukem
4. Super Mario Brothers 3
5. Baseball Stars or Contra (as long as you knew the up, down, up down, left, right, left right, b, a, b, a, start cheat )

Hmm, some of the oldies.

Atari 2600, air sea battles. Played that until the joysticks melted with my dad.

Atari 2600 missile command

Ti99 tunnels of doom.

NES bandit kings of ancient china

Currently, I've been playing call of duty, have to upgrade the OS to get company of heros working.

Halo and deus ex need to be on the list too.

Man, after I did this, I googled NES games and scrolled down the entire list. Remebered a lot of games I played as a kid a lot, including stuff like Fester's Quest, Yo! Noid, Tecmo Bowl, Bad Dudes, Dragon Warrior, Mike Tyson's Punch Out, Track and Field, Super Dodge Ball, Metal Gear, and tons of others. I'll probably next go through the SNES games a little later. Ahhh memories.

Ooo, ooo, ooo, and Skate or Die! That game rocked. Oh, and I may have to make a revision to my list. I may have to throw off, actually I will throw off Contra and replace it with.......

Maniac Mansion!

In no particular order, the games that have sucked away the largest chunks of my life:

Doom/Doom2 (Doom3 sucked)
Myth: The Fallen Lords
Myth II: Soulblighter
Civilization/Civ2
Medal of Honor: Allied Assault/Spearhead/Breakthrough

Honorable Mention to: Railroad Tycoon, Transport Tycoon, Starcraft & Halo PC.

[Edit: I didn't even initially think to include Atari, Commodore64 or NES/SNES titles, but after thinking about it, the list above beats out any of those games anyway ]

Good call on the Baseball Stars! I still have that game.

I remember my dad and I would draft a team of real players and then type their names in and we would do seasons together, good stuff.

WOW this is amazingly difficult question, & some of you have already hit some absolute contenders with Contra, Baseball Stars, Zelda OoT, and Medal of Honor.
No one mentioned the Castlevania series with is up there pretty high for me too. Lets not forget Blades of steal for the first controlable hockey fights LOL.

Well if I look at sheer hours of my life that a game has chewed up, I guess the list might look like this.....

1. Goldeneye N64 (I was done home system games until this commercial)
2. Techmo bowl (impact) / Madden (longevity)
3. Rollercoaster Tycoon (almost lost my job because of this)
4. Super Mario N64
5. Diablo II

Honorable mention - Mike Tyson's Punch Out (ultimate bragging rights game)

I am completely sure I missed many others too. Great & fun post man

P.S.
Anyone remember a game for Intelivision called something like, Atlantis? loved that one too.

Yeah I have a NES emulator and all the NES games on my PC. Aside from tecmo bowl I rarely play any of them but hey they only take up 150 MB of hard drive space I suck at just about all of them now, they seemed so easy when I was younger but now I can't even pass Soda Popinski in punch out.

As far as my list goes....

1. Return to Castle Wolfenstein - played it for 3 years religiously, no game before or since had me addicted like that one. Can't wait for the next edition.
2. Call of Duty
3. Madden/ tecmo -tie
4. Company of Heroes - This game could be alot higher up the list but the intense clicking and controlling so many different units at once really boggles the mind in multiplayer. I'm just flat worn out after playing this game for an hour.
5. Medal of Honor

You've got that right, its really hard, I'm going to give it a try though.

Mario 64
Metal Gear Solid for PSX
Grand Theft Auto
Madden
Goldeneye
Zelda:Ocarina of Time
Frogger

There's so many I can't list them all...

I'm not much of a gamer, I still like the old-school joystick with a single button. I adapted OK to Ninetndo in college for playing Tecmo Bowl seasons, and the 2 button controller was about my maximum. These new ones that have 10 buttons are way too complicated for me

1. Galaga
2. Galaga
3. Outrun & Outrun II
4. Donkey Kong, Jr
5. Tempest

1) Madden Franchise
2) Diablo 2 LOD (pc)
3) Super Mario Kart
4) Goldeneye ( N64)
5) Grand Theft Auto

3 and 4 were the greatest playing with friends when I was younger. 4 you could get 4 people in on, it was awesome.

I used to love that game. I never really played Mario kart for the 64 though. I played it a few times and it was pretty cool but it was alot harder.

Funny, I haven't seen anyone mention Halo???

And that is the one game that pretty much made the Xbox what it is today.

I gave it honorable mention, but it hasn't sucked up the gazillion hours of my life that other games have... even if I am still playing it every Thursday religiously (PC version though, not that inferior XBox thing)

i like halo, but i've played better

the levels in halo can get repetitive, sometimes you'll go through rooms that all look the same, and that gets annoying and confusing, overall it is still a great game though...

i think half-life 2 is better though...

imo halo single player is horrible, i think the only reason its gotten so popular is the great multi player-

No particular order.

1: Final Fantasy VII and VIII
2: Championship Manager series
3: Metal Gear Solid
4: Syphon Filter
5: Civilization III (talk about a game that eats your life!)

Honourable Mention to:

"Wings" on the old Amigas. Great WW I flight shoot 'em up. Supercars was good on multi-player, as was Nitro.

The "Dizzy" series on the ZX Spectrum 48 k. I think you can download them suckers in about 45 seconds nowadays.

Tomb Raider....that T Rex was a great gaming moment.

Resident Evil, Silent Hill and Tekken on PS 1.
