The American people, that's who. It appears the public is abandoning their golden boy.....just like his congressmen are. I do apologize for using such a biased source.

http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2010/images/02/16/rel4a.pdf

Seems like the public is wising up. Interesting poll all around, but here's the meat:

Quote:

6. Do you think Barack Obama deserves to be reelected, or not?

Feb. 12-15, 2010

All/ Registered Americans Voters

Yes, deserves reelection 44% 44%

No, does not deserve reelection 52% 52%

No opinion 4% 4%

Before you start questioning the process, 96% of the people polled were working class/middle class with a 3% margin for error.

I am biased, and he should have never been elected, but it is a little early to say if he is going to be elected again.

Never underestimate the the stupidity of the American electorate.

I think we should have changed the rules and elected gw a third time. I still kick myself over never voting for him.

On a serious note, one year is all you need to judge a presidency. The fact presidents serve 4 year terms was a typo.

LMAO. 2 whole posts before the Bush haters chime in.

Sure it's early, but shouldn't Obama be getting the most props early in his presidency where his blaming of the previous administration for his woes is believable to more people?

Yeah, these numbers are very convincing. - Kind of like the numbers that told us that the Presidential race was going to be so, so, close last time around.

Exactly.

First of all, the public is prone to re-elect, without regard for logic. Look at the moron we re-elected last time around.

Also, it depends on the opposition ... perhaps Bush would've been ousted in '04 had he not been faced with such weak competition. Credible candidates are a rarity these days, to the point where they're almost un-electable.

McCain was a horrible candidate for the GOP to run against Obama ... McCain himself wasn't an awful candidate, but it was what they call a match-up problem in sports.

If the GOP runs a dud like Palin or something, I can see him getting re-elected.

I also find that folks tend to take what they see and hear around them as a general consensus...

There's a lot of folks who love the guy, those who are willing to forgive the guy, those who fear change (no pun intended), those who strictly vote 'D' ... for all his buffoonery, Obama stands a good chance at re-election unless the GOP runs a strong candidate (which I doubt they will).

My biggest complaint with Bush: it is my belief when you have somebody under your thumb you keep them there. Thus I wasn't part of the 70% that approved his handling of Iraq. I didn't care for McCain's position on the war either which is why I abstained instead of voting for him. I'm very glad he is still my Senator.

Now there's an old saying about "either crap or get off the pot". I think that's where Obama sits in regard to healthcare reform.

From my perspective, the biggest challenge he faces is to get the democrats in line. I wish he had more moxy than he is showing.

I view the republicans as sticks in the mud... they say they want a voice, get a voice, and then vote no, and then say... we never really got to voice an opinion or get a vote.

How many republicans have we seen handing out stimulus checks after they voted no on the stimulus bill. There was an article today in the wall street journal detailing the letters written by republicans lining up at the trough for stimulus money for their District, complete with quotes about how the stimulus failed after it passed.

So if Obama has failed at anything it is for being too "bipartisan"

It is too soon.

No, not the hopey changy thing, I am more into not trying to be lied to, and acting respectible, and honoring things like the geneva convention.

I am still ripped about the WMD's, the deficit, and a few other things.

Thanks squires. In a different thread I said something along the lines of "idiots shouldn't be allowed to vote".....and she was one of the people I was referring to. Someone mistook what I said to mean that people that disagree with me shouldn't be allowed to vote - that is NOT what I meant.

Here is the problem. According to most economic forecasts that I've read, the economy is going to be very sluggish through 2010, then in 2011 it's going to pick up and should be fairly strong through 2012... So whether you want to give Obama any credit for that or not, the long range forecast says that we are going to be in a pretty strong recovery come next election and that will be enough to get him re-elected.... So unless he royally screws the pooch in the next couple years or unless the economy takes an unforeseen nosedive, my prediction is that he will be re-elected.

Thanks for yet another relevant reply to a topic.

You can count me in as one who is disgruntled with the state of the current Republican Party....although not as bad as a few months ago. Hopefully they've learned that the people are sick and tired of uncontrolled spending and will take advantage of the political suicide the dems are committing.

You must have missed the part of the CNN poll where the working/middle class would be more inclined to vote republican than democrat.

I believe they will ... and then spend just as hard.

And for that reason, I do see a third party movement from the right coming down the pike. It may not be successful, but it will grow.

sigh: I know this is old news by now...but it really irks me when I read stuff like this. My Son is in the Amry. He was over in Iraq. I ask him about the WMD's. He told me that they found small pockets of them, here & there. But, the news media seemed to ignore this fact & report that either it was a small find or more often than not, they did not even report it at all. Also, what really upsets the guys over there was the fact that it was reported by the media that we could not find anything. He said it was reported to them that 6-9 months before we attacked, SH removed alot of them & sent them into Syria.

Make no mistake, SH had lethal weapons there for yrs. & used them to wipe out the Kurds. You cannot trust the Media, at all. They had an agenda against Bush, so did the Dems. No Way Bush could win this media war.

blee...there were stockpiles of conventional weapons found, all over Iraq, that is true...but the WMDs Bush claimed were a threat to the United States..the WMDs we went to war over...were never found.

As for the claim that the WMDs were moved...did Bush ever say the WMDs he started the Iraq War over, were moved?

I have no doubt, if there was evidence that WMDs were moved, Bush would tell everyone about it. The fact that Bush has remained silent about the claims that WMDs were moved, should tell you something about the claims as well as those making such claims.

My son was in Iraq too...and no WMDs were found by his unit or any of the units he came into contact with on a daily basis.

You should read the post before winding yourself up into a lib tizzy. I plainly said that the margin for error was 3% and posted a link to the entire CNN poll...which is 6 pages in length. You'll have to figure out how to click on a link all by yourself....if you're able to do that, it's the first question on the third page. I'm sure you'll grasp and point out the percentage falls right at the margin for error, but regardless the dems fell from a 6% advantage to a 3% defecit in the course of 3 months.

BTW...the margin of error is 6%, not 3%...which means your claims of a 6% drop in dems chances of being re-elected falls within the margin of error..but you know that.

You might try clicking on your own link and reading.

Also, the number polled was less than 1000 registered voters...a very small sampling. I did not see a break down of how many of the registered voters were GOP, Dem or Independent, further adding to the "insignificance" of this CNN poll.

Jfan...there was good news for the GOP in the Gallup Poll that I posted...the Congressional approval for the GOP was up from 10%...all the way up to "11%". Now that should put a smile on your GOP face...

There is no significance in polls at this point.

Bush I was up into the 80s in approval early in his Presidency. Bush II had 1 of the highest ratings for a sitting President, and then 1 of the lowest to ever be re-elected.

Polls have become increasingly less reliable over the past decade or so. A large part of the general public has no clue what's going on anyway ..... almost half of the general public won't vote ...... and many voters will vote their party line no matter who or what that candidate is.

Umm mac I'm pretty sure you are reading that Gallup poll incorrectly.

The question you are referring does not ask for GOP congressional job approval. The question asked for congressional job approval and then was broken down in percentages by the respondents party affliation (as all other questions listed on your link were, such as Obamas approval rating). i.e. Democrats responded to the question with a 30% approval rating for congress (down 15%), Independets responded with 13% (down 3%), and GOP responded with 11% (up 1%).

Also, statistically you are incorrect the margin if error in the CNN poll is 3% and 100 respondents in not a small sample size. You are correct in a sense with the 6% number but are wrong in your application. The 3% m.o.e. means the democrat candidate number could be as low as 42% or as high as 48% and the GOP number could be as low as 44% or as high as 50%. That's the way margin of error should be interpreted.

Do you really want 4 major parties? Do you want presidents getting elected with 30% of the vote?

This is just my opinion but I believe what would happen, if we had 4 major parties is that they would start to create aliances until it was very much like having 2 parties again... parties 1 and 3 would find common ground and start working together, as would parties 2 and 4... which in reality isn't a bad thing... We can't get anything done with 2 groups bringing ideas to the table.. could you imagine 4 different groups with 4 different healthcare ideas? Some people think that would create a best case scenario of inclusion and reaching the best possible solution. I think it would create a mess where we end up with some watered down version of nothing after twice as much deliberation.

A third party puts one party always in play, which I think could help... 4 parties would end up looking very much like 2 parties...

Yes...it's sponsored by your second favorite news source (after MSNBC of course).

Poor mac, why is it so hard for you to grasp the fact that 3% +/- doesn't mean that the margin for error can swing 6 percentage points in one direction?

What I found significant is that 96% of those polled were working class/middle class Americans. I'm sure there's a real possibility that CNN's going to sponsor a poll where the majority of respondants are Republicans.

Well, I sure hope the dem implosion doesn't hand the Republicans anything before they realize how upset we conservatives are with the way they've been spending like drunken liberals.

Phil I have a question:

Ron Paul won the conservative Straw poll by a wide margin yesterday...and many in the GOP are coming around to him, and its early.

IF Ron Paul wins the Republican Nomination, would you vote for him?

Obama would probably refuse a debate with Paul because Paul would make him look like a fool

I just wonder, if the GOP sees Paul as their best chance to win(and may have to swallow it to get the Presidency) would you vote for Ron Paul if he was on the ticket?

I personally could see this happening as I think the GOP trying to take over the Tea Party will backfire and the Tea Party will have a majority control in the GOP by 2012....

I just wonder how many Americans would vote for a man with Ideals like a modern day Thomas Jefferson

I think No Income taxes, no Fed, and No policing the world sounds pretty darn appealing...

Ron Paul is a libertarian, not a Republican.

He is a staunch supporter of individual rights, and an isolationist in terms of foreign affairs. He has vigorously opposed the wars. The religious right and neo-cons would find another.

He is a true free market capatilist and does not believe in any government regulation whatsoever. That bothers me.

He also believe that the federal reserve should be abolished. He and socialist Bernie Sanders have co-sponsored legislation to have the federal reserve audited, which I believe is appropriate.

His small government message is appealing, but few have any clue as to the net impact of the country.

Not necessarily, Thomas Jefferson campaigned against John Adams on the basis that the Federal Government had gotten too big. He used the phrase "that government is best that governs least". To be sure, he was a staunch small government advocate before/while he was running for President.

Now, when he got elected thats a bit different of a story. He more than doubled the size of the United States despite the fact he thought it was unconstitutional.

In principle and before he was elected he was an anti-federalist, but as president he certainly wasn't.
