I tried to open the original DawgTalk a few minutes ago and found it gone. <img src="/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

It was there not so long ago as I used to stop in every once in a while just to water it and keep it alive. It's history now.

I am so grateful for DawgTalkers.net in that it is so much like the original, sometimes I forget it's not.

Yeah, that new "Browns Chat" totally blows. Why the had to ruin a very good thing is beyond me.

Ditto....the browns chat board I cant handle...the look and mechanics of the board is one thing, but too much negative posting also going on...

I hate that board... I maybe go there once a week.

The original DawgTalk has been gone for 4 or 5 days now.

They'll probably rename the new board DawgTalk ..... but the history of DawgTalk will live on here.

Forums come and they go.

I was really glad to find DawgTalkers, seeing a link on the "updated" Browns Chat. This site is so much easier to navigate and is required viewing every day. Now, if we just had a Browns victory to talk about next week...

I hear ya hoop - its weird to think that this is just "one of those forums" that could go by the wayside in years to come (though I highly doubt). But essentially, this is a fan site - different to think that, because we're used to being affiliated with the organization.

Of course we will schedule a DTers day!!!! We did it last year without the Browns help.

I'm curious, what makes this board so superior?

I have spent maybe 10 minutes on the official board since it opened.

On a technical note though:

[*] Post jumpers so you get taken right to new posts in a thread you've been reading so you don't have to sift past all of the stuff you've already read each time you come back to it
[*] Post/Reply linking so you can actually follow a conversation within a thread
[*] Post tracking so you can see how many new unread posts/threads you have

Those are the biggies that come right to mind for me.

Hoop... you can change the colors if ya don't like em...there's a few different themes to choose from. Granted, a couple of em flat out suck, but they're still choices <img src="/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

This is something we had users ask for on the old board. (visually impaired users) We were told that it would be too much work ..... <img src="/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" />

lol, the thing comes with a few different themes by default...including "Large" versions with increased text sizes for visually impaired.

A couple of things.

The new website uses software that is dated by most available software packages. Very basic, someone tried to recreate the wheel with it, and its functionality is inferior to many products on the market. I really don't understand why I need to login everytime I visit the site, so I rarely go anymore.

The other thing that bothers me, is that posting has degenerated into "he sucks" mentality, rather and any sort of relevant discussion. I get nothing out of this concept.

I voiced my comments when the change was made. No response. I prefer this site because of the quality of the posts, even though I may not agree with everyone, at least they tend to state their opinions with more than the "he sucks" mentality.

The "Official" Board is still there and has been....according to the post dates... Could people be talking about accessing the old software/board through the Official Browns site?

I agree. This board is like going home, if you'll forgive me for sounding sappy.
The familiarity with the posters and the forums themselves are what I like about it.

It is the people. That's the part that makes the world go round. Once you lose sight of the people,people lose sight of you.

That's why we're here. We are and always will be the remnants of the real Dawg Talk. Because the people were what made it what it was and we are here.

A large amount of the people posting on here know that I was Ref1 on the old Dawg Talk board for many years. I am still Ref1 on the new "and improved" BrownsChat board as well. I came back from my "retirement" last January in September to assist with the transition to the new board/site, and I am still there.

If you didn't know this, and it is a revelation for you....I don't care one way or another. If you had a problem with me or one of my fellow mods in the past on the old board or the new one for that matter, I don't give a damn either. As Pit alluded to, the people make this site what it is, and that goes for ANY message board on the 'net. Not just the people posting, but the people that are "running the show" behind the scenes as well. What made the DT board a good board was the fact that Browns fans were the ones posting on it, and Browns fans were the ones moderating it.

Like the moderation or not, the fact that it was stringently moderated with no BS allowed, proper forums created for different topics/discussions, and trolls ran quickly was the thing that made the board work. Same here.

The one thing I would like to pass along in this thread lamenting the fact that the old board is now gone is that a lot of people don't realize how much effort has been put forth to try and fix the problems that plague the new official board. I'm not saying this to pat myself on the back....not by a long shot.

There is a group of people (my fellow mods over there, who all post over here as well) that tried to make the transition to the new board work, but have been limited by the efforts of the folks in Berea. A lot of folks don't understand or appreciate the AMOUNT OF TIME these people have spent there trying to make things work, trying to get the simple things corrected....and I applaud them for it.

This is a shout out to them.....I love each and every one of you for trying as you have.

We are continually told by Berea that they are attempting to fix the problems/issues that we have raised, but here we sit nearly 3 months after the site launch and nearly everything we asked to be corrected sits yet untouched.

It can't be that hard......

Nearly a month ago, I asked for the simplest thing. I asked that the images used on the index pages over there (the stupid assed houses that indicate new posts within a forum) I asked that these be changed to Browns helmets. It's a damned URL change.....I would do it myself, but when I made some color scheme changes to the board to try and make it more of a Browns board, I was given a rebuke by the graphic designer in Berea.

A few weeks ago, I was afforded a telephone conference with the folks in Berea, the folks from DigiKnow that do the web tech stuff for the Browns, and groupee, the creators of the software that is currently used on BrownsChat. This conference was intended to deal with the issues that are a problem with the new board...to try and iron them out and get them fixed.

I KNEW MORE ABOUT THEIR SOFTWARE/BOARD THAN THEY DID!!! This after only using it since September 4th. The new board/site was launched on September 5th (dumber than hell to launch at the beginning of the season...shoulda launched in the offseason and THEN fixed the bugs) and as mods we didn't get access to it until the day before the launch, even after we were told we would get advance access to figure things out and play with it. We were also told by Digiknow that they would give us full support throughout the launch.....but we were soon kicked to the curb. We asked many questions, and they went unanswered.

Here is what happened folks.....to sum up a long story....the Browns media department got hoodwinked into buying a lemon. We are still trying to fix it, and things looked promising for awhile....but the more that time goes on the more I think that things will not change for the better.

We are told that post jumping and the other issues that PPE noted are the reasons that the board was prone to crash at times. This may very well be the case, as the member numbers here and the numbers on the old board are few and far between. They are supposedly looking at workarounds for all of these issues.

The biggest problems with the new board compared to this one are the number of people posting and the navigational aspects. (as well as the fact that you can register repeatedly on the new board with a false e-mail address to get around any moderation and I don't give a fat baby's ass who knows this if they didn't already know because I and I'm sure the others are sooooo ready to tell them to shove that place up their ass it doesn't matter at this point and I may as well keep going with this run-on sentence while I'm rolling and go ahead and add that the STEELERS SUCK AND THEY ALWAYS WILL CAN I GET AN AMEN???) <img src="/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" />

The number of people who post over there and think it IS A DAMNED CHAT ROOM INSTEAD OF A MESSAGE BOARD ARE IRRITATING AS HELL! Excuse my yelling, but it's very frustrating.......

I just felt it was important to let a few of you long-timers know about this stuff. I know this was a rambly post, and I apologize.....but I wanted to let yinz know that there are people out there who are trying to fix it. And they have been trying to fix it.......and they are all awesome people. Not just because they are Browns fans, but because they are good people.

So, when you raise hell about "that new board" like it's that state up North, keep in mind that the attempts were made and are still being made to fix it. I just don't know if it will happen or not. I still got my fingers crossed, but they're slipping apart......

I can't speak for others,but from my point of view,being here has nothing to do with you or any of the refs on the old/new official board. Sure,I've bumped heads with a few of you on occasion,but hell,nothing of any substance IMO. And consider the ones of you I know as my Buds.

I've always appreciated the work all of you put into Dawg Talk and don't have one bad word to say about any of you. This place just feels like home to me,so I'm here. But I wish you all the luck in the world and hope the powers that be can get their heads out of their collective arses and work with you guys to get things straightenned out over there.

And I really hope to see you post more over here as time permits you to. Not having you around is a missing ingrediant to this place even if you are an old redneck!
