I dont understand the being selfish part of his statement.

Boo-Hoo. Remeber when you signed that insane 70 mil extension via sign and trade with Atlanta instead of going to a good team?

Looks like tomorrow will be Christmas. I think PHX will hold out until the 11th hour ... and all our other Plan-B's will likely have to hold out until the 11.5th hour.

Marc Stein on ESPN radio is saying that its the Cavs holding the deals up, not PHX like its being reported. He said that both PHX and WAS are waiting on CLE, not the other way around.

Chad Forde is saying the opposite. PHX has an offer, and they are waiting to see if Miami can trump it. Then again, they probably gave Cleveland a ridiculous counter-offer and said they would stop talks with Miami if we took that deal. Probably in the best interest for the Cavs to wait it out and force PHX into taking the lesser offer.

if true....i can see Ferry sitting in his office in Independence like Dr. Evil with the FO assembled around:
"so, do we deal an expiring deal and an unproven youngster for the younger allstar.....or do we deal just the expiring deal for an older allstar and keep that unproven youngster?"
[FO evil laughing]
"stop it guys, I have to call Kerr and sound serious when I tell him that he might need to give US a 1st round pick to seal the deal"
[/FO evil laughing]

i don't think that is a jab at the cavs as much as it's a jab at his own team. he's basically saying, look, the cavs are doing everything to win the title now. they're being selfish. and what have we done?
who knows, maybe jj wants to come to the cavs next year.

i can imagine ferry, gilbert, and lebron, all sitting alongside the school bus a la chris farley and billy madison's 2 buddies, eating all the bag lunches, laughing their rear ends off.

Just got this from RGM, it's from Wine & Gold at RCF: Quote:
Just now recieved a call from a guy I trust. Didn't have much tangible to add ...but, just told me short and sweet that as of right this moment Dan Gilbert has personally injected himself into the discussions with Phoenix for Amare.
Not sure what exactly this means. If possibly he's trying to work somethig along the lines of a financial aspect to the trade talks that will positively impact the current talks and move Phoenix to go ahead and accept our proposal.
But, as I see it this could be nothing but good, and may swing the trade in our direction sooner rather than later.
I think this shows that we really need to just give Phoenix all we can give right now so that we can finally get an answer one way or another. We have Wshington sitting there with something we probably would like to pounce on, but don't want to move on to that until we know exactly where Phoenix stands.
The way I read it is ..Dan Gilbert is trying to set the timetable up so that all parties know that if Phoenix doesn't jump at what we have offered by a specific time, then it's off the table and we move to another alternative.
We simply can't wait on Phoenix past a certain point. It's my impression we would want something tangible back from the Phoenix side ASAP.
Danny's tired of mind-games.

WHOA! I am impressed that things seem to be moving along. Glad that we've said enough is enough and its time to get moving.

From cleveland.com:
CLEVELAND -- There are indications the Cavaliers' chase of Amar'e Stoudemire is about to reach a climax.
While the Phoenix Suns were still hoping to allow for more time, both to weigh the big decision and to see if other bids for the All-Star forward emerge, they are being pushed by both Stoudemire and the Cavs to make up their minds.
According to sources, as time runs out before Thursday's trade deadline and with other trade options on the table that the Cavs need to decide on, the organization has turned up the heat and is attempting to get the Suns to take or leave the Cavs' trade offer. It is believed to center on Zydrunas Ilgauskas and J.J. Hickson but would involve one more player and perhaps a draft pick.
Also on Wednesday, Stoudemire's agent, Happy Walters, told the Associated Press in Phoenix that it would not make sense to not trade Stoudemire and risk losing him in free agency this summer. Walters told the AP that he expected the Suns' game Wednesday night in Dallas to be Stoudemire's last.
Walters and the Suns exchanged contract extension offers last week and the sides, according to a source, were not close.
Both of these tactics seem to have the same mission: force the Suns into action.
There has been some belief that Phoenix is still considering an option of not trading Stoudemire -- they pulled him off the trade market in the final days before the deadline last year -- and hold out hope they could work something out in the summer. The Suns have won six of their last seven games heading into Wednesday night.
If the Suns decide not to make the trade, the Cavs are expected to turn their full attention to making a deal with the Washington Wizards for forward Antawn Jamison.

While having Stoudemire would be pretty sweet, I'm kind of bummed that it's not the Jamison trade. We'd keep JJ, get Jamison, who in my opinion is a better player and teammate, and give up basically NOTHING! Just to let Mike James and the remaining $2.5 mil of his contract sit on our bench the rest of the year? What a gift!

if I was Kerr, I would want to decide before tonights game anyway.
if Stoudemire gets hurt against Dallas....poof goes any chance at a deal.
mitigating that risk is worth not playing him in one game....and missing out on a potential last ditch offer from someone else (they should know most of what they would be offered by now and the most they could expect even if someone like Miami got desperate)

Yup, if Amare is in the lineup....I'd bet he's staying in PHX. If you're that close to trading a guy, you don't risk him tweaking his ankle or even getting a blister on his non-shooting hand.

...And by the way, I was in a work meeting for 90 minutes and when I come back to refresh this page I see 30 new posts. I was for sure something had to have happened to see that kind of activity. Nope.

Let's all jack this thread up some 100 posts, so Ytown freaks out when he logs back on. Went out to pick up some lunch and listened to Meyers and Hartman on the radio (two HUGE Laker homers). They sounded pretty nervous about an Amar'e/Cavs trade going through. They had Mitch Richmond on, and he was saying how Amar'e should want to go to Cleveland. Saying something like: In Miami, they would still struggle to get out of the East ... in Cleveland they would destroy everybody.

and not that it is a huge factor in these guys' decision making, but, have you seen a miami heat game this year? empty seats, lackluster crowd.
it's a bandwagon town and even when they have a top 5 player of wade's caliber, they don't care. cavs fans were jacked and became the most hostile crowd the minute we got lebron.
i would think going somehwere where you arent taken for granted might play a minor role.
i agree, go to miami and compete, or play in cleveland, obliterate every team you play...
win championships, get huge endorsement deals in doing so...
seriously, windy, you can't say this thing is reaching a climax and then not tweet for 45 minutes.

I get the feeling this will be done sooner rather than later. Amare has a game in 3 hours ... I'm not sure the Suns would be wise in playing him, as if he gets hurt, it will really hurt their trading chances.
A lot of other deals are contingent on this Amare deal going through or not as well. If the Cavs don't get him, they likely take Jamison and Wright from Toronto. And I'm sure those teams have backup plans as well if they can't get the Cleveland deal.
You also have to think that PHX will lose considerable leverage if Cleveland sets a deadline and takes the Jamison deal instead. Miami could basically offer them whatever they wanted for Amar'e and PHX wouldn't have much other choice other than taking it, or losing Amar'e at the end of the year.

maybe the fact that it's been an hour means it's going through. windy might be waiting on all the details and also to make sure it is 100% confirmed.
seriously. this is so awesome. so much better than being a team like the tribe and giving up players like stoudemire.

It really is enjoyable to be a fan of a team in a position of negotiating power at times like this.
Our team is at the peak, and on the upswing..... it's just beautiful.
