This is just the Steve Kerr era in PHX (2007 to present)...lots of other Sarver related cost cutting dating back to 2004:
Rudy Fernandez (Traded to Portland for cash)
Traded Kurt Thomas and 2008, 2010 1st round draft picksto Seattle (OKC) for future second round pick and cash
Lost D'Antoni as coach to NY Knicks
Shawn Marion and Marcus Banks for Shaquille O'Neal
Shaquille O'Neal for Ben Wallace and Sasha Pavlovic (both bought out)
Raja Bell, Sean Singletary, Boris Diaw traded to Charlotte for Jason Richardson, Jared Dudley and a 2010 second round pick
Traded Alando Tucker, a second round pick and cash to Minnesota for Jason Hart (waived)
picked Robin Lopez over Speights and JJ Hickson (thanks Steve)
----------------------------------
Before Kerr: Joe Johnson left because they didn't want to pay him (before the huge contract ATL offered) and sold a bunch of 1st round picks before Kerr was GM one of which turned out to be Rondo.
alot more, but no time for me to look it all up.

yes, and while they are decent in the standings, i think most believe the suns are pretty much done as a threat in the west.
if you had to rank western teams, do you have them 3rd? above okc?
i honestly think they see this window about to shut, nash is probably gone next year, they've gotta have something, even if it is just a role guy like jj hickson.

Wow... that's about as bad as Matt Millen's time with the Lions.
I wonder how much of that is driven by ticket sales (or lack of) in Phoenix. It also makes me think that perhaps we want to keep JJ and the reason Gilbert got involved was to offer cash in lieu of JJ. I have no basis for thinking that, just random thoughts in my head.
Browns is the Browns
... there goes Joe Thomas, the best there ever was in this game.

ok, adding one more:
2004 - Phoenix Suns trades the 7th pick in the 2004 draft which becomes Luol Deng to the Chicago Bulls for a future first round pick (which turned out to be #21 Nate Robinson of the 2005 Draft)
which they obviously also traded away for $$$. so, instead of Deng and/or Nate Robinson....the Suns got nothing.
-----------------------
here's the Rondo one:
Suns trading the #21 pick for Marcus Banks which became Rajon Rondo

Sadly to save $$$.
and people complain about the Cliff Lee trade....imagine if we gave Philly 2 1st round picks to take him off our hands.

Sounds like the Suns chickened out ... they'll probably keep Amare now and lose him in the summer.

If it's the same move as yesterday, it could be Z and Moon ... and we'd get Jamison and James. Hopefully we didn't lose Moon.

Chances are we gave up Moon and kept JJ. Man! What a ride today. I've wanted Jamison for 2 years now, and I'm still a little let down that we didn't get Amare.

not unless it's a sign-n-trade for Jamison....and PHX doesn't sound like the type to take on $$$

Z and a first for Jamison? that's not even a coup, that's a pure conquest.
not IMO Jamison has a big contract and he's 33.

Real GM is saying this:
The Cavaliers have acquired Antawn Jamison from the Wizards, according to the Washington Post.
The deal is possibly a three-way with Drew Gooden being sent to a Western Conference team.
The Wizards will receive Zydrunas Ilgauskas and a 1st round pick, according to the source.
That would be a coup
Gooden to PHX plus some change from us for Amar'e ???
Browns is the Browns

the entire rivalary stuff shouldn't go as high as the front office. but that does scare me. i want z back, i think we need z, as much as the sentimental stuff is awesome. i still think we need z, and some of the abilities he still has.
but think about it. the wizards are toast. butler and stevenson gone, jamison allegedly gone. and you know they are going to try and get out of arenas and his ridiculous contract.
so maybe all that stuff has gone to the wayside.

what i don't understand, unless jamison was our guy all along, is why do this now and not give kerr more time to think about it?
my only guess would be they'd be afraid of someone like boston swooping in and trying to grab him.
i'm just a little baffled.

Amare would of been a heck of a deal ... but Jamison for Z is still a hella-good deal. Jamison is a perfect fit for what we need on offense.

I'm sure Washington and other teams had "Plan B" as well. The fact that they gave us Jamison for nothing more than an expiring contract shows that they were pretty desperate to unload that salary. I'm sure they needed a decision from us ... so that they could move on as needed as well. The Amar'e trade was the first domino that needed to fall for everyone else.
Windy now reporting trade is not final, but everything is agreed in principal.

I'm not convinced this is legit either, so I'm going to suspend judgment (we've heard this before many times with Amare already), but I think our front-office got fed up with Phoenix' mindgames and indecisions. If true, I'm actually quite proud of them for not allowing a team to hold their interests hostage.
Z + a pick for Jamison is basically nothing because if they buy out Z, and he returns.. we gave them, what? A first round pick at #30? My goodness.

Sebastian Telfair might be involved The Cavaliers, Clippers and Wizards are in the midst of completing a three-way trade that sends Antawn Jamison and Sebastian Telfair to Cleveland; Zydrunas Ilgauskas and Al Thornton to Washington; and Drew Gooden to Los Angeles. There may be one or two other players involved in the transaction but nobody of consequence. The deal strongly indicates Amar'e Stoudemire, if traded by the Suns before Thursday's 3 p.m. NBA deadline, is bound for Miami. By shedding next season's guaranteed contracts belonging to Thornton ($2.8 million) and Telefair ($2.7 million), the Clippers reduced their salary cap to the $33 million range, putting it in prime position to compete this summer for the services of LeBron James or another marquee free agent. http://www.nypost.com/p/sports/more_sports/cavaliers_trade_for_jamison_hlNp4gbzxDv0RfFUT2Y4fK

Agreed ... The Suns can now also get taken to the woodshed by Miami, who can pretty much offer them a "take it or leave it" deal, and they don't have any other option other than to watch Amar'e walk in the summer.

Telfair and Delonte on the same team?? Yikes! We could give Washington with Arenas and Crit a run for their money.
