never panned out. he's pretty much just gonna be extra baggage. i would not expect him to even sniff the rotation, could be wrong.

He's an expiring contract too, so he's not going to hurt us down the road.

[edit] 2007 handgun incident
Telfair and a friend, Al Eden Fuentes,[9] were arrested early on April 20, 2007 and charged with felony possession of a weapon, after a traffic stop.[10] The traffic stop was prompted when Telfair was spotted driving his 2006 Range Rover 77 mph on the Bronx River Parkway, a 45 mph zone. Telfair was driving under a suspended Florida license. When the police searched Telfair's vehicle, a loaded .45 caliber handgun was found under the passenger's seat. Both Telfair and Eden claimed to not have any knowledge of the handgun. Police had yet to determine the registration status of the handgun.[9]

In September 2008, Telfair pleaded guilty to criminal possession of a weapon and received three years probation. In October 2008, the NBA handed down a three-game suspension following the guilty plea.[11]

as much as i am disappointed we didn't land amare. i'm happy for jj. the last week had to be killer, from playing with lbj on a contender, to having to change teams and go to a team that really doesn't have a chance.

do we star antawn or work him in? i really like how we look with jj starting but there is no doubt antawn is the better player right now.

Sources: Cavaliers agree to 3-way trade with Wizards and Clippers; receive forward Antawn Jamison and guard Sebastian Telfair
By Brian Windhorst, The Plain Dealer

UPDATED: 7:04 p.m.

Frank Franklin III / Associated PressAntawn Jamison (above, against New York's Wilson Chandler) is reportedly very close to becoming a Cavalier.CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The Cavaliers have agreed in principle to a 3-team trade with the Washington Wizards and Los Angeles Clippers that brings forward Antawn Jamison to Cleveland, sources said Wednesday night.

The Cavaliers are sending Zydrunas Ilgauskas to the Wizards and this year's first-round draft pick to the Clippers as part of the trade. The Cavaliers are expected to receive Clippers point guard Sebastian Telfair as part of the package.

The Washington Post first reported the trade.

The Cavs made the move after they were unable to complete a trade with the Phoenix Suns for Amare Stoudemire. After nearly a week of talks the Cavs pushed for an answer Wednesday afternoon. Either they were told no or told to wait by Phoenix, who was hoping for better deals to mature.

So they moved on to Jamison, who has been one of their top trade targets since the fall.

Jamison, who is averaging 20.8 points and 8.8 rebounds for the Wizards, is the good-shooting power forward the Cavs have been looking for since last summer. He has two years and $28 million left on his contract, which prompted the Wizards to look to move him as part of a rebuilding process.

Telfair has played in 39 games this season, averaging 4.3 points and 2.9 assists

Just to note ... Jamison was the guy Cleveland's wanted for months. We were talking about having to give up Hickson up for him no less than a few weeks ago, and now we got him for almost a second round draft pick (#30-ish)

We'll get Z back in 30-days, and we've pretty much done nothing to mess with our chemistry. With Powe coming back, we're completely stacked in the front court.

Why would Washington want to keep Z? They are in complete rebuild mode, will want to use games ... and only want his contract so it comes off the books at the end of the year. I can't imagine them wanting to tick off a player by holding on to him just to spite another team ... wouldn't look very good to other players who might consider signing with them as a free agent in the summer.

I don't see why some people would be upset with this?!

We just traded Z, who we'll most likely get back and a meaningless draft pick for a guy averaging 20 points and 9 rebounds! Not only that but he fits PERFECTLY in to this team.

Sure, Stoudemire would have been nice but that apparently was a pipe dream. Ferry leveraged Stoudemire in to a ridiculous deal with Washington. We kept JJ, kept Moon and even got a serviceable guard (Telfair) for free.

This trade was a homerun. We didn't have to sacrifice our best young big and we get a throw in player who could be packaged in another smaller deal tomorrow.

POSTED: 6:52 pm EST February 17, 2010

CLEVELAND -- While rumors have been circulating all week, sources are saying the Cavs made a deal that will bring Washington's Antawn Jamison to Cleveland.
NewsChannel5 contacted the team and they are not confirming any deal.

Both Jamison and Phoenix's Amare Stoudemire had been tossed around as possibilities to put on a Cleveland uniform.

Jamison was not on the court with his team Wednesday.

The NBA trade deadline in Thursday at 3 p.m.

If Dan Gilbert doesn't mind blowing a wad of cash, we technically could still get Amar'e too ... sign Wally to a $12 mil, one year contract and then trade him and Hickson to PHX. Of course, that would cost about $24 million (prorated though), with the cap penatlies and all ... but we would still have the Bird rights to Amar'e.

It's not ... Due to the CBA ... a team cannot agree to buyout a player as part of a trade condition. So it's really up to the Wiz if they decide to do the buyout or not.

Can't imagine why though wouldn't thought. It would be a pretty sleazy move on their part not to, and it's not like they need minutes from Z anyway.

I actually like the Jamison trade better than the Amar'e proposed deal.

Basically since Z will be brought back in 30 days, we're getting Jamison for a first round pick. A pick where there's probably not going to be anyone there we want to give a guaranteed contract to, anyway.

I love this trade.

i think he's more motivated right now. he's 34, he's at that point where it's put up or shut up for winning a ring. i think he wants it more than amare right now.

although with age comes durability and his health worries me.

but he will have to pass a physical, so it's all good.

can't wait to see what they look like.

one other thing that we haven't mentioned.

z goes to washington, but i don't expect him to even suit up. so he gets a month off, 30 days plus the week off from the all star break.

time to rest his legs, rest his mind, gather his thoughts and prepare for probably the most important stretch of his career. z wants that ring as much as anyone else, maybe more than anyone else, he and lebron have seen it all with this team.

the other thing i like is that windy likes this deal. he was skeptical about the amare deal, he understood the potential but also thought it was risky, he was much more on board with going with jamison.

and windy is a guy with great knowledge, knows his stuff, knows the team better than almost anyone.

He sure sounded like he liked the trade. I'm excited, and can't wait to see him suit up in a Cavs uniform. Great trade given we get Z back, and even if we somehow don't. (but that would suck, Z deserves to get bought out and come here get 2 million and win a championship!!)

This is just the Steve Kerr era in PHX (2007 to present)...lots of other Sarver related cost cutting dating back to 2004:

You might be able to add this "non-move" to your list. Kerr balking at the Cavs offer may leave the Suns in a serious bind.

Now that the Cleveland Cavaliers have made their big trade all eyes turn to Phoenix to see what the Suns will do with Amare Stoudemire.

Two sources told ESPN.com that the Suns called the Cavs this afternoon and told them they had decided against sending Amare to Cleveland. A few hours later the Cavs had completed a deal for Antawn Jamison.

That leaves the Miami Heat as the only known suitor for Amare. One source close to the process disputed what a Suns source told me earlier today about Miami's reluctance to give up draft picks for Amare. The Heat own the Raptors' and their own first-round draft picks this year.

"The Heat have offered a pick," the source said. "I think this comes down to, will they offer their second first-rounder as well?"

The question is, will the Heat offer more now they know their biggest competitor for Amare is out of the picture? Remember, the Heat can sign him straight up as a free agent this summer without giving up either pick.

If the Suns balk at making a deal with Miami, chances are they're keeping Amare. The only other potential suitor may be the Chicago Bulls. A source said the Bulls expressed interest in Amare earlier in the week, but they've been quiet on the Amare front since then.

If the Suns can't make a trade before Thursday's deadline, expect Amare to be unhappy.

"He's going to be upset," one source familiar with the process told ESPN.com. "He's been reading his names in the headlines every day. He's been wooed by Dwyane Wade and LeBron. It's time to move on."

They're down to one trade partner now ... who has no real reason to offer them anything more that what's on the table now ... and a PF/C who will probably be quite upset that he WASN'T moved, and likely won't be back next year.

cavs are 2nd in 3pt %, .3 behind phoenix, and they just added a sniper. this guy is gonna see more open looks than he ever has.

all he has to do is buy into mike brown's system. that's all. play a little defense for a few months. he's known as a bad defender, but under mike brown, he'll get him to be serviceable. that's all we need.

we don't really have a ton of defensive zealots. andy is a defensive guy. lebron plays great defense but he's aside from this because of how talented he is.

under mike brown you just have to be willing.

also according to windy, this happened now, and not at noon tomorrow because of what happened last year. we didn't get anything at the deadline, we didn't get shaq or anyone else and we suffered. i think ferry said strike now and make sure we get this guy.

and for all you conspiracy theorists, you could also say that the cavs had zero interest in stoudemire and ferry asked kerr to pretend they were doing things, i wouldn't completely throw that out.

just the fact that we didn't have to give up jj which probably makes lbj happy because that is his guy, is amazing to me. danny ferry is the freaking man.
