I understand most franchises have QB's as the face of their team. I could care less, Josh represents himself with class and gives 200% every game. I also love how he always plays pissed off when we face pukesburgh
The guy deserves every single penny IMO
All the more reason to trade DA and BQ and make Cribbs our franchise QB
Kool-aid anyone?

You know .... I could see why Cribbs, his agent, his friends, his family, and other people close to him would be happy and dancing and stuff .....
But in the end, the Browns took a guy with 3 years left on his deal, and turned him into a guy with ..... well, 3 year left on his deal.
I mean, congratulations to Cribbs for getting a raise .... but it realy doesn't affect me in the slightest. It doesn't improve the team at all.

I would say it keeps us from getting worse. How many times did special teams get within two first downs of at least a FG.(past the 50)
He earned it, he got paid, I look forward to three more years of the same production. And now he's happy.

I am sooo happy they did this if everyone played as hard as Cribbs we would be a top 10 team, and it sets a precedence that we pay our playmakers.

I'm kinda okay with making sure our field position is happy with us.
That is what Josh is.

The only thing that changes is that Cribbs gets more money. That's it.
Same years ... same team ..... same position ...... just more money.
This move doesn't change the team one bit. Not better ..... not worse ..... it's a neutral move except for more money in 1 player's pocket. (well, and his agent's as well) If Crinns would have had to play out the next 3 years under his old deal ... then that's what he would have had to do in order to get paid and "provide for his family".

Wow.. how insightful. I believe that for one thing, remembering that this is a business, that it will show that this F.O. is willing to put the money where their mouth is. Many have complained about the past regimes not being more business minded and thus hurting our chances bringing in quality free agents. Not that it would be important or anything...

Wow... are you always this cheerful?
Glad we got this behind us and we can count on having one of the most exciting players in the league to watch for at least the next 3 years!

Not saying I disagree in terms of the length of the contract. But if he had decided to sit out or demand a trade. That would definately hurt the team.
loss of field position FA's feeling we treat players unfairly losing a team leader etc..
Maybe now the FO can focus on an O that can muster more than a FG when he returns it to the other teams 12.

Hmm,, not sure I agree with you.. What I mean by that is that it changes the perception by current players and potential FA's.. is it significant,, I can't really say yet.

Cribbs brings so much more to this team than just his electrifying play on gameday. Signing Cribbs to this new deal not only makes him happy but the fans as well. To me, this is a huge step in creating a true and positive identity for this team.
Congrats Josh!!! you da man!

Not to mention a stronger bond between the team/organization as a whole and a fan base that has felt somewhat disconnected from the team due to a host of things..

I totally agree Daman. Cribbs brings the same intangibles to this team as what Bernie did back in the day.

I have heard a number of talking heads around the TV talk about free agents .....
And the general consensus is that players sign for 1 of 3 main reasons.
The money.
Close to home and/or family.
The team is a contender.
Mostly, players sign for ...... money.
I would bet that not 1 NFL player read about Cribbs' deal and said anything to himself except maybe "Good for him". I bet that they won't give it even a 1st thought when deciign whether or not to sign here or elsewhere.
I don'r begrudge Cribbs his money at all .... but it neither improves nor degrades the team at all. Cribbs would have been here next year or he would have lost money. In the end, he was under contract, same as he is now, and is bound by that contract if he wants to do what he professes is important to him ... and that's playing in the NFL. The contract length is unchanged. He was under contract for 3 more years ... and he still is. If fans want to feel that this is somehow an improvement to the team ... go right ahead .... but to me it's almost a meaningless lateral move that does nothing except put extra money in a player and agent's pockets.

If it made a difference teams would give their players raises every time they "outperformed" their ciontract ..... because then everyone would like them and want to play there .......
The Browns and Cribbs felt that he deserved a new deal, and worked things out so he could have one. That really is all there is to it.

Oh so you think we would have won 5 games without Cribbs this past season?
And just because he was under contract means (in your mind ) he would have still played for us next season. Have you heard of hold out or locker room cancer?
Geez gang it comes down to being rewarded for performance as everyone in a job should be done. If it comes down to a contract that is fine except the teams have a right to terminate a contract and the players do not. In my mind that is wrong!
Just wait till next season, I have heard that for over 40 years!

I am glad to see that the deal got done, however, as Ytown has pointed out, he was already under contract for the next 3 years. So that really does not change. Yeah, he could have held out or became a problem in the locker room, but he was still ours for 3 years.
Does this contract help the team....sure in different ways, but I would have like to see them add a year or two to the lenght of the contract, especially since they decided to redo his contract with 3 years left (almost unheard of). I hope that this does not open the door for every player that feels they have out performed their contact.
As I said, glad it is done but would have like to see an additional year atleast.

What Ytown and you are both missing is that if we hadn't gotten this contract done, Cribbs could have sat out this year.. In doing so, he could have forced a trade.. then he'd be gone.. or at the very least be a distraction all season. but I'm betting we'd have traded him to end the debate..
And I guarantee you, if we trade him, his new team would have paid him...
Do you want to see this team without Cribbs on it? I sure as hell don't.
I don't believe there is a question what losing Cribbs would have done to this new management team....Talk about starting off on the wrong foot.. wow..
So I do believe that redoing his contract was SMART and REQUIRED and it will have a positive effect....
But that's JMO

Don't know about Ytown but I do understand as stated in the rest of quote.
I understand that this will help the club in the impression that they take care of their own and will help in FA.
I'm glad the deal got done, just would have liked to see additional years added and not just a pay raise for the 3 years that he was already signed for.
We restructered his deal with 3 years left on it and didn't add additional years? Kind of unheard of in the NFL.
Not missing any point, but would hate to open a can of worms for any other player that feels they have out performed the contract they signed that may be out there.,
