While watching a highlight film on him, I noticed a small, yet concerning thing.

When running the ball, it seems as if he likes to keep his elbows away from his body a touch too wide for my comfort level, with all the ball punching that goes on nowadays.

Is this a coacgable/correctable thing?

Coachable?? Sure

Correctable?? Maybe, maybe not.

Did he fumble a lot in college?

I remember them teaching up Tiki Barber in the pro's. He was fumbling a lot then they changed the way he carried the ball. After thaqt he rarely fumbled. Can they do that with him is up to him and his coaches.

According to this he didn't fumble one time in his four years at Stanford.

Well, if that's the case then, doesn't this thread resemble chicken little screaming that the sky is falling?

The thing is you have to have someone like Tiki determined enough to actually teach himself to run that way with the ball and make it natural. This guy Gerheart is good at baseball and football, he's gotta be a coordinated guy and I bet he's competitive enough to take on a difficult challenge like this.

I say this to back up Tiki Barber, I live near NYC and have always loved him as a RB. He had one really bad year where it seemed his fumbles needed to be addressed, he addressed it and continued to be productive.

What about taking Gerheart in the third round if he's available as our thumper back?

I don't think many would complain about that.

I was originally hoping that Ryan Matthews could be had in the 3rd round....but it seems that the scouts have him properly graded as a late-1st to early 2nd round RB now.

Gerhart is not a bad consolation prize and would be a good value in the 3rd round (if he makes it....I could see a team valuing his goalline acumen as a 2nd round pick).

Matthews or Gerhart would be a welcome addition.

When people make comparisions to Chris Johnson they never seem to mention the one guy who resembles him the most -- Matthews.

(I'm aware that he doesn't have Johnson's speed, but his ability to shed tacklers is unreal.)

Potential beast.

more Gerhart info...could be good for us...if he's available to us in the 2nd round...id be alllllllll over him.

• For all those fans (yep, including me) of Stanford running back Toby Gerhart, the guy who barely lost to Alabama’s Mark Ingram in the Heisman race, the news later this week might not be so good. According to two people, Gerhart’s medical report is likely to feature a number of lingering injuries from his hard-running college days. It likely will be enough to drop Gerhart out of the first round.

Gerhart jokes about only being compared to white players
Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on February 27, 2010 5:37 PM ET
One of the laziest and more annoying phenomenons in sportswriting is that white players are only compared to white players. The same thing happens with black quarterbacks.

Stanford running back Toby Gerhart knows the phenomenon well.

"I was talking with John Lynch, and joking around with him, that he was in the same situation as a safety. We're often only compared to other quote unquote white guys that play our position," Gerhart said.

There aren't many players to choose from, so writers have stretched to say Gerhart is like John Riggins and Mike Alstott.

"I'm color blind," Gerhart said. "I'm a running back, I'd compared myself to the running styles of Eddie George and Corey Dillon." (On cue, the next question was about Gerhart playing fullback. Sigh.)

ESPN's Chris Mortensen said he's found a team that "really, really likes" Gerhart. "Some functional/scientific testing they've done suggests better athlete than perceived," Mort tweeted.

Gerhart said his goal time for the forty was "fast," which was typical of his assured time with the media. He and Joique Bell are the winners of our total meaningless and subjective favorite interview from the week.

Gerhart, who weighed in at 231 pounds, looks like a second-round pick. He should go to a team looking for a power runner that welcomes contact.

But no, he doesn't play like Mike Alstott.

I can't link it, but have read in several places that Gil Brandt said on Sirius Radio that he believes Gerhart is a "lock" for the 1st round if he runs in the 4.5's at the Combine. He benched 22 times, 3 better than Ryan Matthews, who is favored by some here.

Huge times for both Matthews and Gerhart. Matthews probably solidified himself as a 1st rounder, and Gerhart in the 2nd.

Yeah I just saw that. Both guys are blazing fast. Should both go in the first two rounds.

Spiller goes to Seattle at pick #14 as the first RB off the board? Sounds reasonable to me.

Way! He won't be there at 14 when the Seahawks draft again...

Have you witnessed what Chris Johnson has done in the NFL?? Spiller can do the same, and the Seahawks have no running game. 6.

He could very easily be there at 14, and they need an OT just as much as a RB. The value for an OT will be much better.

Right now, I'm giving them Okung, but Berry is very possible.

The Rams possibly taking Bradford would really help the cause of him being there.

1. Rams – Clausen
2. Lions – Suh
3. Bucs – McCoy
4. Redskins – Bradford
5. Chiefs – Okung
6. Seahawks – CJ Spiller
7. Browns – Eric Berry

this is my guess.. and I could really care less how 1-6 goes, as long as 7 is right.

I see no way Clausen goes before Bradford. Also, Berry falls to us, I would dance in the streets naked

After seeing Gerhart at the combine, I would take him in the second or third without a doubt, although I want OL before a back is taken.

I also see Spiller going top ten, the guy is a stud.
