Didn't say they didn't,...said they "shouldn't."
I look at it as though monetary value is abstract. The Cavs "paid" for AJ, no problem. What will we get in return,....abstract. Unknown.

Not sure,...all I know is we got Jamison, and the Wizards got a pick. Why couldn't that just have been the deal in the first place ?
The wizards couldn't, its pretty much that simple. The wizards are rebuilding and get much more benefit from getting rid of his salary than keeping him, so if it were possible to just trade him outright for a pick I'm sure they would have, and I'm sure it would probably have been to a team with a much better draft position than us.
We basically bought Jamison off of them but we had to do it in the parameters of what is allowed by the league. Z's contract is ending and we already paid most of it, Jamison's still has some years on his but their salaries for this season are close enough to each other to meet the league's guidelines. We traded the contracts essentially, and they could buy Z out without costing a fortune (which they could not do with Jamison). We threw in a pick to sweeten the deal a little, but the pick wasn't really all that valuable due to our draft position.

I'm the one who said that the Cavs were listed 8th because ESPN was taking into account LBJ would be in NY.
ESPN has been disresprectful to Cleveland in the way that they discuss Lebron's upcoming free agency. - Very disrespectful.
However, like I noted earlier, ESPN doesn't take itself very seriously, I mean, they are always clowning around on their shows, and their commercials tell us that they want to be laughed at. - They may not really care where Lebron goes and may be making a big deal about the summer of 2010 because it creates a big story for them to report on - nothing else.
This.
People that get all angered over how ESPN "idolizes" the Knicks are just as bad.
Do you really think they want him to play for the Knicks, where they most likely won't be in line to win a championship for 2ish years.
I actually find it funny, when they say "Knicks Forward LeBron James" or something like that.
I read it as them making a stab at the BIG NY homers who actually think LeBron is coming and already are planning a championship parade.
Some of you people get WAY too upset about LeBron to NY talks, seriously why would they not talk about it? You know it gets us to talk about ESPN right?
It is a huge story, of course they are going to talk about it, they need ratings too.

abc/espn televises nba games on wednesdays, fridays, and sunday afternoons.
ratings for lbj in nyc would be off the charts.
so yes, i do think they want him there. some stuff is tongue cheek, maybe, but there is no doubt that there biased coverage is pretty obvious.

Even if you do think that, why should you be mad about that, its perfectly logical for a network to hope for the best player to be in the biggest market.
You know the world is fueled by $$.
I think people believe that ESPN has way more influence on his actual decision than they really do. Its not like LBJ is gonna read a bunch of stories about him going to NY and say "Welp, guess I have to go to NY ESPN said so!"
Its called marketing and the yearn for the never ending dollar.

no. espn is a news source. you're "supposed" to be objective. you're supposed to report what you are seeing, not what you hope happens.
it doesn't happen with anybody else.
and yes, lebron definitely fuels it by not saying anything. he likes the attention. i think he likes the attention it brings to his team and the added pressure.
but did you watch espn's broadcast of the knicks cavs game at msg a few months back? embarassing.
when you are a national sports news outlet, you are supposed to be objective.

i think the funny thing is, they won't let kirk herbstreit, or any of the monday night guys, or jay bilas pick a winning team in the game they are broadcasting, in their pregame show, but the lebron to ny stuff is fair game. lolz
laughable.

Sure they are supposed to be objective, and for the most part they are.
It is their analysts that mostly fuel the LeBron to NY stuff. This makes sense, they analysts are supposed to analyze what they think will happen etc. and their opinion is LBJ to NY, Stephen A. Smith-esque, (or it was, if you have watched over the last few months almost everyone says he is staying in Cleveland)
And about the Knicks-Cavs broadcast, again I saw that as more satirical than actually believing in the NY hype.
IMO.

Personally, satirical or not, I feel that your anchors making comments like "NY Knicks forward Lebron James" or "the Knicks, the team Lebron loves to play for" is less than professional.
I'm not angered by it. I just think the lack of professionalism and the willingness to put your bias out there for all to see is a bit astounding.

I guess if you actually take shows like Sportscenter, PTI, Around the Horn etc. as legitimate news programs then sure maybe it seems unprofessional.
I don't think this is really the case though.
ESPN has always marketed themselves to be informative, yet still "entertaining" at the same time.
You know the E stands for entertainment.
Now there are some programs that are legitimate, like Outside the Lines, The Sports Reporters etc. However these are vastly not as popular as the "entertainment" shows which are shown at more convenient times.
You should really just take ESPN for what is is.

or just not watch, like i do.
on top of the garbage that the usually spew out, you hardly get highlights.
they are quickly becoming to sports what mtv has become to music.

I wonder if ESPN, in it's current form, will be around in 10 years. - The NFL network took a lot of viewers with it. I wonder how popular the NBA and MLB networks will get.

i love nba network. you get fan night, which is an unbelievable idea (if you don't have it, they put up a poll on nba.com and you vote on which game you want to watch) you get lengthy highlight packages of every game instead of just little 20 second blurbs like espn gives you.
the final highlight show of every night repeats itself, so if you're like me where you have crap going on when the cavs are playing, you can still catch the highlights.
although my gf bought me the second half of the nba league pass as a gift..
the nfl network still needs work, it is a ton of filler. there is so much you can do with the access to footage and resources and they continually show the same crap over and over.
nhl network is great too. especially if you wanna see highlights, because espn could care less about hockey.

what i love the most is that these networks don't saturate you with garbage that most of us don't care about.
i don't care about brett favre, red sox/yankees, steroids, tiger woods' personal life, etc... i just want to see what happened in the games.

Back at my mom's house, she gets the NFL network. Less than impressed with their coverage outside of the combine/draft stuff.

I've read the political threads around here....
I love how half of you are trying to hold ESPN to a higher standard of news-integrity than you tend to hold CNN/FOX to.....

J/C..
For crying out loud.. We have a team that is 48-14 going into into the stretch run of the season, and people are sitting here talking about ESPN's view, the summer after the season, etc.
As a side note.. Lakers start a 3 game trip tonight in Miami.. Going to be a battle these last 20 games trying to hold them off for overall homecourt..

Which is good because I dont think their team is that healthy. And having them play big minutes to try and lock up home court will only help us if we end up having to play them in the playoffs.

most things on espn center around sports, but how often is it about what actually happens on the field/court/ice/etc?
they love off the field stories, maybe that is why i hold them to the "standard" of a cnn or fox. they seem like they want to be in that mix.

I agree with everything you said LeBron, I absolutely hate ESPN. The only reason why I watch their crap is to catch highlights of games I missed. I could care less about the yankees, favre or any other crap they talk about. Don't even get me started on some of their crappy shows. Everybody on that around the horn show is a bunch of tool bags.

It would be a pretty unfortunate swing of events if we lost home court.
With the tie-breaker, we essentially have a 2.5 game lead (as of today) because they have to finish ahead of us and not tied with, to secure home court.
The Cavs have 20 games left. The Lakers have 21.
11 of Cleveland's 20 are at home. 14 of LA's 21 are on the road.
Out of their remaining 20 games, the Cavs don't have a single back-to-back of two games on the road and have only 3 back-to-backs total remaining on their entire schedule (all are one home, one away). The sugar on top is that they're all in the midwest as well, so they're incredibly easy travel for the team (Milwaukee, Detroit and Indiana).
On the flipside, LA has (2) 3 game road trips:
1.) Miami & Charlotte in a back-to-back and then Orlando a day later. 2.) Phoenix then Golden State & Sacramento on a back-to-back a day later.
and a BRUTAL 5 game road trip:
@ San Antonio, @ OKC, @ Houston, @ New Orleans and @ Atlanta
AND they have 5 total back-to-backs. To make it even worse (or better depending on who you're rooting for ) , 4 of the 5 back-to-backs are back-to-back games on the road.
That is such a terrible stretch run for LA.
If both teams come out of this last portion of the schedule with the same record, (let alone LA erasing a 2.5 game lead), it would be a big red flag for Cleveland.
Not saying it couldn't happen but it is set up as well as it possibly could be for Cleveland.

The other schedule quirk is we play 5 of 9 at home (until the magic date of March 22nd) and out of the 4 road games, only 1 (Chicago) comes against a team who has a winning record (they're 31-29 but incredibly banged up). They'll most likely be minus Noah when we play them (Plantar Fasciitis) who is said to be out at least 3 weeks.
Honestly, the schedule could not set up any better if the Cavs made it themselves.

i agree, i like our schedule and the cavs should finish strong. i know shaq is out, but they have shown they are good enough to overcome something like that. although, get ready, because they are gonna get out and run on just about everybody.
it's good basketball because the offense has life to it, but they are still defending.

It's as close to official as it gets ...... Z's coming bck .... http://www.cleveland.com/sports/index.ssf/2010/03/zydrunas_ilgauskas_agent_says.htmlZydrunas Ilgauskas has announced his intentions to rejoin the Cavaliers and has asked agent Herb Rudoy to begin negotiations with the Cavs on March 22, the first date he can do so. "It is Zydrunas' desire to return to the Cavaliers if a suitable contract can be agreed upon," Rudoy said in an e-mail sent to reporters. "He has been overwhelmed and deeply touched by the outpouring of support and affection by the fans and by his teammates. He hopes to return to bring a championship to the Cavaliers and to the city of Cleveland." Ilgauskas was traded to Washington in the deal that brought Antawn Jamison and Sebastian Telfair to the Cavs. After the Wizards bought out his contact, he cleared waivers and became a free agent Monday. The Dallas Mavericks, Denver Nuggets and Atlanta Hawks were among the teams seeking to sign him, along with the Cavs, who have been without a true center since Shaquille O'Neal suffered a sprained right thumb at Boston on Feb. 25.

News comes last night that Z wants to come back AND LA loses its' first game of a 3 game road trip to the Heat. Not a bad segway in to the weekend. Cavs can push their lead for home court to 3.5 games tonight (when you factor in head-to-head).

here's a good question for all of you.
lakers at charlotte tonight. who do you want to win?
lakers win, and they keep close with us for the homecourt.
charlotte wins and they inch closer to that 8th spot.
i'm not saying charlotte beats us, but what i am saying is they are 3-1 against us this year (3 of the games have been on our 2nd night of back to back) but if we don't have to deal with a solid, larry brown coached team, i'm all for it.
i think i root for the fakers tonight.

I root for homecourt.
How much did a cakewalk 1st round help us last year? Perhaps facing a defensive team that will make us work on offense could be beneficial to us.
So, I am rooting for Charlotte to get the #8 seed. And I am rooting for the Lakers to lose. In fact, if the Lakers were the worst team in the NBA, I think I would still root for them to lose anyway.
