NFL.com At the top of the page it reads "Breaking News: Eagles release Westbrook. The Philadelphia Eagles release running back Brian Westbrook, Michael Lombardi reports." Two great NFL RB's released in two days. Thomas Jones is probably next. Edit: Here's a better link from Philadelphia Eagles.com

Wow, that's surprising to me. He's like the eternal Eagle... or, he was.
Browns is the Browns
... there goes Joe Thomas, the best there ever was in this game.

LOL The link takes you back to this thread...
Anyway, I'm shocked, I didn't even think they were talking about releasing Westbrook...

Let me be the first, Just Say NO! Speculation will emerge because of the Heckert ties.

His knee is destroyed, I really don't think we would have any interest.

I didn't know his knee is destroyed. I thought he was released because of concussion problems.

You can really take your pick as this guy could NEVER stay healthy. Always something with him, seems to have had it all.

Yeah, he was hurt alot,, but when healthy, the dude could play.. I'm not at all interested in picking him up however.. if he still could contribute, no way Philly gets rid of him..

I don't think they cut him, his contract ended and they didn't re-sign him.

One last thing, I've never in my life seen a player sacrifice a touchdown for the win. He was a true team player in my mind.

MoJo did it as well last year (though it was a tie game and his coaches told him to do it despite that they would still need to make the short FG to win).

Don't worry, there's a reason Heckert drafted Shady McCoy last year and it's not because he thought Westbrook had a lot left in the tank.

Maybe he wanted to stay, but paying the big dollars it would have taken to keep him wasn't worth the risk as he was 35 years old.

I think he's 30 too. I see Westbrook as a Harrison type player..........and we have Harrison already. Westbrook has a lot of wear and tear. I think Sproles could be a free agent too if the chargers don't want to pay him.....do we? Or is he even more a harrison type player?

Westbrook has had a great career. Harrison has had a few good games on a really bad team. I think we should compare Harrison to Westbrook.
I'm a really big fan of the guy. He's one of my two favorite Eagles, him and Brian Dawkins. Those guys were really good. Dawkins is a HOF safety and Westbrook was the offense's main target/weapon for may be 5 years.
I don't want to sign him because I want to go a different way with RB, but Brian Westbrook would be a good option for a team looking to find a RB to be one of the final pieces of their puzzle.

Who takes Fred Taylors place in New England? Westbrook, Tomlinson or Lewis?

I was responding to a comment about the Eagles choosing to not re-sign Brian Dawkins last off-season.

This is a shocker. Gotta get out from under the rock a bit more often. He has been the Face for them in my book, and I didna even know they were considering him for this. That's why it is important to read the news, kiddies! Wow. Played some solid ball.

I would think Tomlinson....he's more durable (they already have a bunch of RBs with injury concerns), a better pass blocker, and almost as good of a receiver as Westbrook.
Jamal wouldn't give them anything Sammie Morris doesn't already (at this point of his career).

^This.
Maybe we shouldn't be all that surprised. As the season went on, even when Westbrook was healthy, McCoy got a pretty big percentage of playing time. The writing was definitely on the wall.
I like Westbrook a lot, but I'm not sure I'd want anything to do with him.
I am unfamiliar with this feeling of optimism

Ditto! I would not even take a second glance at a flyer.
LT before Westbrook if that messed up scenario would happen.
Do not touch that dial!
