Report: Cardinals want a third-round pick for Boldin
Posted by Michael David Smith on March 3, 2010 10:33 PM ET
Cardinals G.M. Rod Graves has made it clear that his team is willing to trade wide receiver Anquan Boldin.

But what would it take to get Boldin out of Arizona?

Michael Lombardi reported on NFL Network that the Cardinals "only want a third-round pick" for Boldin. That's not too high a price for a starting wide receiver.

But, Lombardi said, the big sticking point is whether a team acquiring Boldin will be willing and able to fork over the money necessary to make Boldin happy. In other words, Boldin won't just cost a third-round pick. He'll cost a third-round pick plus a big new contract.

Boldin said after the season ended that he wouldn't request a trade. But the Cardinals may have come to the realization that their offense is just fine without him, and that they ought to get whatever they can for him. If what they can get is a third-round pick, the Cardinals would apparently be fine with that.

Do it... pay him... welcome to Cleveland. Bring in McNabb and our offense is starting to look good. Oh yeah, lets get one more former Jet.... Thomas Jones. Grab a tackle in the draft and I would be excited about our offense.

omg..if that were to happen i would cream my pants...(it's too bad i won't cream my pants lol)
we would hands down have one of the best Os next year in our division..lets face it..steelers r "do nuf to win" offense and bungals might have the best O right now considering they can run the ball and have a legit superstar QB and pretty darn good WRs..baltimore can also run but they have no WRs and a good young QB.

I'd give up a third for him and pay him his money in a heartbeat. Problem is that 25 other teams probably would too.

But we have a high pick in the third round, hopefully Holmgren jumps all over this.

uhhh...i am VERY confused why it would be bad to bring boldin in if all it takes is 3rd freakin round. don't we have 11 picks? he will be hands down better than anyone we draft in round 3 this season for the next 5-6 years.

Sign him to a huge contract for 5-6 years and we are set...#1 WR with couple of very decent #2s in Mo mass and ROBO.

How many 3rd's do we have? Give em another mid round pick and its still a steal. This guy played with a broken face, hard to not want the guy.

Anquan Boldin will turn thirty years old this coming season. He has been injured twice in the past two seasons. And he gets a lot of balls thrown his way because of double coverage on Larry Fitzgerald. With that said, a 3rd round pick for Boldin is nothing. But the 3rd round pick isn't what teams are worried about. They are worried about paying a thirty year old injury prone wide receiver big money.

I didn't think I would be able to say this yet again, but the Braylon Edwards trade keeps looking better and better.

Don't fall for the 3rd round smokescreen... The Cardinals are only hoping for a bidding war that might score them a second, or if they are lucky a first or multiple picks...

With an uncapped year, I don't see why we couldn't do a 5-year deal for the guy that is really a 3-year. Give him a VERY high signing bonus this year and team-friendly salaries the rest of the way so that we aren't affected when the cap comes back.

We could do this with several players we feel would be key, long-term cogs to a championship run for this team. Our cost is the now, when there isn't a restriction on cost and the payoff is setting us up for the future both in preventing a cap hell and hopefully a few FA that boost this team's success (or don't hold them down if they don't).

And the other thing we would be doing...taking him away from Baltimore who is giddy about the guy. Acquiring him would improve us and take him from the Ratbirds.

No signing bonuses!

Give him a year 1 reporting bonus .... and then modest annual salaries.

Year 1 hit? (irrelevant) Massive. The rest of the contract? Completely managable, and even economical.

I would love it if we had somebody could hit him when he is open. Add another QB who is viable or it is probably a waste. Hope I am wrong, but the man could be here. How could anybody give up our winters for Aridzona anyhow?

pass.....too many great prospects in the 3rd round.....

with hank gone, hadnot likely gone, and st. clair being on the bubble, we need to shore up the OL depth....and the 3rd round is when you do it.

boldin isn't going to make us a top 10 offense....not even top 20. this isn't basketball....

You make the move if u think you can win now. IF you are going to need a couple years u pass. Its that simple.

If we make a run at Boldin, you can bet we are making a run for McNabb also.

Agreed. I don't see Boldin giving max effort after he gets his money. I'll pass here.

I don't want Boldin or Brandon Marshall. However, if I have to choose, I'll say Brandon Marshall is a safer bet. - And I am aware of his character issues.

I really want to know what Boldin has ever done in his career that makes you think this way.

I understand the injury-prone and 30yo arguments against him getting that big contract, but everything he has done in AZ has shown he is a player that shows up and works as hard as he can.

From everything I have heard he's a very team oriented guy. As far as injury prone? I think he was pulled a ham once and had a sprained ankle in last years playoffs, and then theres the broken face, which i dont count. Especially, since he played with it.

If you can make the money side of it work, you sign him.

Poison pill the contract along the lines of "if he plays more than 4 games in a single season in the state of Arizona, the value of the contract doubles and is fully guaranteed".... and then ship them a 3rd rounder and focus on getting us a slot receiver.

I think it'd be sweet to have Boldin on the browns. He wants out of Zona, and he'd be an upgrade for sure. The Browns have a lot of draft picks, and it may not hurt to give one up for a solid receiver. I don't think I wanna see them draft one, unless they get Decker in the 4th round or so. Of course I'm from Minnesota and go to the U so I'm a bit biased there.

Sounds like Baltimore is the front runner to land Boldin.

Check out the other headline about that QB in Pixburg!

I wouldn't like that too much. Baltimore for a number of years had Mason (a younger Mason) at WR, but no one to throw him the ball. Now, they have a pretty good QB, but no really good WR (Mason certainly isn't bad, but he isn't getting any younger).

Looks like you hit the nail on the head...

Although it was reported this week that the Cardinals wanted a third-round draft pick for Boldin, it's possible that the presence of multiple bidders for his services has upped the price.

If B-More lands Boldin we absolutely HAVE TO upgrade our secondary.not that we didn't have to already but our division could have the likes of Ward, Holmes,Wallace, Johnson, Possibly T.O, Mason, Clayton and Boldin. The AFC in general is loaded with good receivers, I wouldn't say as much as the NFC but it's getting there.

He was drafted in the '03 draft, the same year we picked Jeff Faine, so he's been around a while now.
