Thought it would be easiest to keep all FA moves in this thread.

Sounds like Corey Williams is on the move.

Report: Browns trading Corey Williams to Lions
Posted by Michael David Smith on March 4, 2010 10:44 PM ET
Browns defensive lineman Corey Williams made it clear last year that he wasn't happy in Cleveland. Now he's on the way out.

Chris Mortensen of ESPN is reporting that unnamed sources say Williams will land with the Lions in exchange for a late-round draft pick. Mortensen writes that Williams is scheduled to take a physical on Friday to finalize the trade from the Browns to the Lions.

Although acquiring Williams would bolster the Lions' defensive line, Mortensen writes that the Lions wouldn't be done upgrading their defensive line there. Per Mortensen, the Lions may also sign free agent defensive end Kyle Vanden Bosch and draft Nebraska defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh.

Williams played in all 16 games for the Browns last year and recorded four sacks.

Williams is going to do well for the Lions.. not to mention if they add Suh in the draft.. but regardless... they need to draft a solid left tackle to protect their QB...

They have Calvin Johnson, Stafford, Smith at RB... Petti at TE... Their offense is there.. they need o-line to win games.

Sounds like we are cleaning house agin. Williams, when given the chance, was making plays at the end of the season. Williams only seemed to get his chance at seasons end when the coaches had no choice but to play him. Whether this is a Mangini casualty or not, I think he had more value than a late round pick.

The low tenders, and this move, give me the impression we are sweeping up the dust mites and starting over.....unfortunately this seems to be including Harrison and Roth. Don't agree with these two being allowed to walk....yeah, yeah, we can always match the offer...

Time will tell....

How are Harrison & Roth being allowed to walk?

Short of having already worked out long-term contracts with them, they are what they are: Restricted Free Agents.

They can't go anywhere unless we give it the Ok, and we are guaranteed some hefty compensation in return for that should we choose to allow it.

Browns is the Browns

The San Diego Chargers have traded Antonio Cromartie to the New York Jets for a 2011 third-round draft pick that could turn into a second-round pick, league sources told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

Cromartie has one year left on his contract and there are no plans for his deal to be redone now.

Cromartie was an All-Pro in 2007 and will team with Darrelle Revis in the Jets' secondary, making them possibly the best cornerback tandem in the NFL. Cromartie replaces Lito Sheppard, who was released earlier in the day after one disappointing season.

Despite 15 interceptions in four seasons, the Chargers were dissatisfied with Cromartie's performance late last season and in the playoffs. General manager A.J. Smith made it clear he would try to trade him.

He had a stud D-line in Tenn, Looks like that's what he wants there.

So 1st and 2nd would be an early round pick right? 3rd-5th a mid-round pick? So that means a late round pick is a 6th or 7th? So we traded a 2nd round pick (pick #36) and two craptastic years of Corey Williams for a 6th or 7th rounder?

Sounds like a good deal to me.

*Players drafted after pick #36 in the 2nd round:

TE - John Carlson
WR - Eddie Royal
RB - Matt Forte
WR - DeSean Jackson
DE - Calais Campbell
RB - Ray Rice
TE - Martellus Bennett

Detroit doesn't have a 7th rounder this year. And per the offensive guys on your list, with Anderson and Quinn throwing them balls, would they be the same?

Well I think unloading his $10 million contract was probably a good thing.

I agree. And with no cap penalties. In most years he would just have been cut outright. But getting rid of his enormous contract (that he did not live up to) doesn't make the original trade any easier to swallow.

So we got a 6th round pick. We probably wouldn't have been as bad if we had one of those guys. I know I would definitely feel better about our overall talent if we had one of them. It doesn't really matter though, I just brought it up because it's always interesting to look at the "What if?" scenarios.

It's not like we dumped a valuable starter. The dude didn't even start until injuries mounted.

The Lions are making a strong push for veteran DE Kyle Vanden Bosch.

Lions coach Jim Schwartz, Vanden Bosch’s former defensive coordinator with the Titans, visited with the former Pro Bowl pick right after the Friday midnight free-agency period began, according to a league source. Schwartz traveled to Vanden Bosch’s house for the meeting.

No surprise here. A defensive line of Corey Williams, Vanden Bosch, Suh/McCoy, and Cliff Avril doesn't sound too bad.

The anticipated re-signing of Chad Pennington with the Miami Dolphins has been snagged by the veteran quarterback's desire to have a no-trade clause in his contract, according to team and league sources.

Pennington and the Dolphins were expected to reach an agreement on a one-year $2.5 million contract on Thursday afternoon before the stumbling no-trade block, according to another team interested in the quarterback.

ESPN.com

Chad Pennington would have top be a top five backup in the league. An experienced veteran who doesn't care if he starts, is willing to help out the younger guys, and could step in and start in a pinch.

Kris Wilson stays with Chargers
Posted by Mike Florio on March 5, 2010 2:07 AM ET
With so many key restricted free agents receiving high tenders in San Diego, one of the unrestricted free agents who could have walked away chose not to do so.

Per a league source, veteran tight end Kris Wilson has agreed to terms on a two-year deal to stay put with the Chargers.

The six-year veteran appeared in every game in 2009, his second with the Chargers. He previously spent four years with the Chiefs.

Let the teeth-gnashing and Ted Thompson-bashing in Green Bay begin.

Jason Cole of Yahoo! says the Redskins! will host Chad Clifton! for a free agent visit! (We've officially entered the punchy portion of the evening.)

Clifton is reportedly looking for $7 million-per-season, and the Packers are only offering $5 million-per-year. He's 33 years old, but easily the best pass protector on the market.

The Redskins are looking to replace Chris Samuels and may be the only team as desperate for tackle help as the Packers. Plus, they are already overdue to make a free agency splash.

In other words, that teeth gnashing is justified

Panthers drop Kemoeatu
Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on March 5, 2010 2:36 AM ET
With one season left on a five year deal, the Panthers released defensive tackle Ma'ake Kemoeatu Friday morning, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The former Raven tore his Achilles' tendon last July and plans to be ready to play football again by training camp.

The mammoth defensive tackle had a rocky stay in Carolina that included more disappointment than triumph. Still, it's hard not to look at the Carolina roster and not see some gaping holes on their defensive line.

"Kemo" will be of interest to 3-4 teams out there willing to take a gamble. There are only so many 345--pound run stuffers out there.

I understand your gumption. And I'm not happy about keeping our 34...

But I take it you watch the football plenty. You should take a look at the other guys who were drafted out there that make a bigger difference than the guys with the ball.

And this is coming from a guy who thinks our skill position players are the worst, collectively, than has been assembled in my memory. For any team.

I know the value of the guys in the trenches. I was just commenting on the guys taken in round 2 of that draft after pick #36. And of those guys only one was an offensive lineman (Chilo Rachal, who is a starter for the 49ers).

Lions sign Vanden Bosch to four-year deal
Posted by Michael David Smith on March 5, 2010 11:20 AM ET
Jim Schwartz's trip to Kyle Vanden Bosch's house has paid off.

Schwartz, the Detroit Lions' head coach, showed up at the front door of the Vanden Bosch residence just after midnight, and before noon Vanden Bosch had agreed to a four-year contract to join the Lions.

Vanden Bosch, who spent the last five seasons with the Tennessee Titans, confirmed the deal in a radio interview with 104.5 in Nashville. It's reportedly a four-year, $26 million deal. There's no word on how much of that money is guaranteed.

It's interesting to note that Schwartz, who previously served as the Titans' defensive coordinator, made such an aggressive move to sign Vanden Bosch. A year ago, when another former Titans defensive lineman, Albert Haynesworth, was on the market, the Lions didn't show any interest at all. Perhaps Schwartz knows something about the practice habits of Vanden Bosch and Haynesworth and thinks Vanden Bosch is the kind of player his team needs, while Haynesworth is the kind of player his team can do without.

The 31-year-old Vanden Bosch was one of the league's top defensive ends while playing for Schwartz, but last season Vanden Bosch recorded just three sacks in 16 games.

Lion's fans sure are having a fun first couple days of FA. Vanden Bosch, Burleson and even Corey Williams to a degree.

I'm a bit disappointed that Burleson got away as I like him, but I'm waiting to see what his contract ended up being. If he signed that quickly, the odds are he got overpaid.

When I think about it, I really get the feeling the Browns are going to try to build a very solid foundation via the draft over the next several years.. doesn't sound as if we are really going to be big players in FA this year at all..

At the moment, I'm not even hearing any rumblings about any aquisitions at all for the Browns.. anyone else hearing anything?

Here is the deal for Burleson...

Lions sign WR Burleson to five-year deal
Posted: March 5th, 2010 | NFL.com Staff | Tags: Detroit Lions, Free Agency 2010, Nate Burleson

The first signing of free agency happened a little over two hours into the signing period early Friday morning, as WR Nate Burleson agreed to terms with the Detroit Lions, a league source told NFL Network’s Jason La Canfora.

NFL.com’s Steve Wyche reports that Burleson has agreed to a five-year, $25 million contract. The former Seattle Seahawks wideout will receive $11 million guaranteed, according to a source with knowledge of the situation.

Burleson drew significant initial interest, and Seattle, his former club, was interested in retaining him as well. He played in 13 games in 2009, finishing with 63 catches for 812 yards and three touchdowns. In seven NFL seasons with the Vikings and Seahawks, Burleson has 263 career receptions for 3,547 yards and 27 touchdowns.

Does this constitute overpaying?
