I think Spiller would be a terrible pick - Justin Forsett is a speed back and the only back taht did anything last year - they'd have 2 and Julius Jones who you and I could give a run for the money - he was terrible last year. Terrible. Of course, if Seattle got rid of Forsett, then Spiller would be a good choice. If I were Schneider (Seattle GM), I'd take Bulaga, Davis, or Williams for LT at 14 and grab a Hardesty, Tate, or Blount in 4.

I'm trying to keep the faith but it seems like the past few seasons we have been trying the addition by subtraction approach. If we get rid of enough underperforming players we will end up better, right? I can see the logic in all of the Browns moves so far but it is still frustrating. It would be nice to see a big name signing, but again I can see the logic in not doing it.

Well, the Browns aren't going to be getting any high powered FA...hopefully we can still add some solid ones later on...

rvr...if the Browns were one or two players away from making a run for the playoffs, you might see them be more active in the "high dollar" free agent market...
But, the Browns are in the process of laying a solid foundation that will help take the team to the next level.

I think that is the plan.....allow the feeding frenzy to subside, then go after a few of the "lunch bucket" guys.
Not superstars by any means or guys who will even seem to be doing much to help the team win....but solid players who give solid reps when in....be it the whole game or just as a ST player.
It may not be "sexy" signing good players to the bottom of your roster, but it is vital you do so.
It also has a big impact on how you look at the draft. If you have added a few solid, proven players, it allows to to go for broke with a few of those early-mid to mid round picks. Picks you normally look for at least solid production.....like the guys signed...and use those picks to go for boom or bust factor guys with the hope they boom, or trade the picks away to move up.
It sounds great to have 11 or 12 picks, but i seriously doubt we make that many selections. No team really wants 11-12 drafted rookies running around. Some of those picks are going to be used in trades of some sort. In the end I could see us with 7-8 drafted players by the time all is said and done.

we now have 12 draft picks in a deep draft class.
That is how this team needs built. The heck with high priced FAs.
and I agree some of those picks should be used for trades.

As far as I know, we still have 11. (with compensatory picks not yet announced)

I am pretty sure thats how it went.....when it was first announced they didnt say anything about us giving our 7th pick along with williams then it came out later.....maybe he didnt catch that part

I think if you check, Vetrone was kind of a special team ace.. I'm sure it's not for huge dollars.. Just taking care to bring back guys that produce in unique and special ways.. you need these guys at the bottom of the roster that do some dirty work. guys like him and constanzo...

I remember reading that yesterday, but today's Dispatch said we got two low round draft picks for Williams. I hope that the Dispatch is accurate, but I doubt it.

Right on. I'm glad to see that we locked Ventrone up for a couple seasons. I hope we can do the same for Blake Costanzo. Those two were a big part of why the Browns had one of the top-ranked special teams units in the league last season.

I agree to an extent, you can't do what the Bears are trying to do: sign everyone. But you still have to bring in talented players in small doses or your going to be rebuilding through the draft for 5 years (if you don't have any busts). Kinda like what Savage was trying to do; signing Baxter his first year then LCB the next. If your as talent starved as the Browns you can't just rely on the draft, though it should be what you mainly build around.

The Bears had no 1st or 2nd round pick, so they could afford to do what they did.
While I agree on building thru the draft, IMO we still need to sign a couple good FA's. The bottom of our roster was built up last year, now's time for some starting talent.

Adam Schefter is reporting that the Bears are getting carried away, they just signed their groundskeeper to an extension of 6 yrs 72 million. I believe that makes him the highest paid artificial technologist in league history.

Baxter and LCB are perfect examples of why I'm leary of high priced free agents.

In hindsight they were busts, nobody could've predicted that both players would eventually have freak injuries that cost their careers. They were solid pickups at the time

Baxter was never that good even when he played (not often).
Savage had no plan if they didn't work out and it showed.
We're trying to throw the ball downfield and he checked the ball down to Trent Richardson and the Indians on the choice.

I personally hope we go after Mike Bell. He would be a perfect compliment to harrison, he's only 26 and doesn't have a lot of mileage on him.

And it wouldn't hurt anything to offer him a contract. The Saints tendered Bell at the lowest level this past week (right of first refusal). So if we offer him a contract the worst that can happen is the Saints match our offer.
I don't think Bell is even really worth an offer. Guys like him are a dime a dozen. He rushed for only 3.8 yards per carry last year. I think we could draft a guy in the 5th or 6th round and get production equal to what Bell would provide at a fraction of the cost.

I'm already at the point where I don't care who it is, I just want to know who it is so I can have a head start at talking myself into that person, for example:
Brady Quinn...He hasn't really been given a full season as the unquestioned starter. And he did look pretty good against the Lions and Chargers.
David Carr...He wasn't that bad for the Texans. He just didn't have any protection.
Seneca Wallace...He's been alright when he has started some games. And he already knows Holmgren's offense.
Derek Anderson...no comment.
