I don't know if that is overpaying or not because of the nature of NFL contracts.
How much is guaranteed?
How much is in the first 3 years of the deal?
I was thinking he was probably worth $3-4mil/year. If they got him for $12mil/3 years with a ton of the other money backloaded on the deal that he will never see. That's a pretty fair deal.
I'm guessing it ends up being a bit more than that since he signed so quickly, but even at $5mil/year, I don't think it's drastically overpaying for him.
But that's just me.

thanks. that's what i get for skimming.
$11mil guaranteed is right in line with that first 3 years at $12mil. So, it sounds so far like a fair deal.
strange that a fair deal would happen so quickly in FA. perhaps his agent is worried about this offseason being bad on players.

Fujita was a strong-side linebacker in New Orleans' 4-3 system for the past several years, but could be the ultimate "Ted" inside linebacker in a 3-4. The signing would make sense for the Browns with Fujita as the two-down crash dummy next to sideline-to-sideline "Mike" backer D'Qwell Jackson.

Kampman and Cole on the edges seems pretty deadly to me. Now just give us McNabb for Rogers and they could have a very formidable defensive line.

I know this may sound crazy, but I was thinking this the other day. Why not the Browns showing any interest in Owens? He didn't seem to cause too many problems in Buffalo, and doesn't cause many problems in the first couple years he's with a franchise. He'd be decent no. 1 receiver, and better than what we have now. Considering his situation with Buffalo last year, his numbers weren't terrible (900 yds, 5 TD). I don't know how much money he wants, but I think he'd be kind of productive. I think the Browns need a receiver.

i'll be interested to see how many of these FA deals are front-loaded like that.
$7mil of the $12mil in the first year. and it just happens to be the uncapped year.

only if the other team refuses to deal with them and they sign him anyway. they can work directly with Denver to have them compensated with the #14 pick. or even a 2nd round pick if Denver is inclined to accept it for Marshall.
just like we did with Corey Williams after GB franchise tagged him.

Which in a twisted way is a pretty smart deal for Seattle. They wouldn't have to pay him the money he's going to be expecting as well as #6 (if they'd have traded #14), and also if WR is that high on their list of needs (crazy in my eyes when they can't protect Hasselbeck or put pressure on the QB), they get someone who is a known quantity instead of taking a chance on Dez Bryant or another early first rounder. Basically it will end up being a Brandon Marshall for Alphonso Smith trade...

I agree. The Seahawks have two 1st round picks. Say they use the #6 on Brandon Marshall and take C.J. Spiller or Bryan Bulaga with the 15th pick. I'd say that's a pretty successful draft.

I doubt CJ Spiller is available at pick 15. Therefore your hoping to get Bulaga..... Definitely a better possibility, but I definitely wouldn't be suprised if he gets picked before then...........

Matthews ceiling is MoJo
No idea if either can/will hit their ceiling, but it depends on which type of RB you prefer as to which you would rather have. I would take MoJo, but I see the argument for CJ (either one)

Yeah I mean I know that Spiller is more of the receiving threat but I just don't see Spiller carrying the workload. In my opinion he's gonna have to share carries at the next level, so to me and it's merely my opinion I see Matthews as the more valuable back.

I dunno, Spiller is not that much smaller than the stockier Matthews. I do believe he is an NFL running back. And watching both of them, CJ Spiller lights it up against better competition than Fresno State Ryan Matthews. CJ Spiller has been the man for at least the past two years at Clemson U. He's good at catching the ball, he has good instincts and great quickness.
If we're picking a RB at the 7 spot, I'd be pretty annoyed if Ryan Matthews is the name that's called

How many RB's carry the load by themselves in the NFL anymore anyway? I'll answer that question for you, seven (MJD, Frank Gore, Matt Forte, Chris Johnson, Jamaal Charles, Cedric Benson, and Steven Jackson).
The NFL is now a two back league.

And you just named (give or take a few) probably 7 of the top ten rb's in the league.
And that's kind of my point, why would a team spend such a high amount on a player like Spiller who would have to share the carries. It doesn't seem to me that he is holding his value if he is only seeing 10-12 touches a game.
