does anyone know if Grant is a FS or a SS?
this is a money saving move on Seattle's part and doesnt mean this guy was bad.. though i admit i don't know anything about him.

SS

He's athletic, good cover man with solid tackling. He's a leader, and is tough, not having missed a game in Seattle (don't know before) despite having injuries (he had a torn ligament in his hand or wrist this past season and played with it. At a decent contract, he'd be a pretty solid addition to the team for a couple years.

Not sure if this is one of them but MH mentioned ( when asked) in the presser yesterday that he had a "couple" more player deals possibly working out.

Pool walked, Elam is our best/only Safety currently. Mike Adams is a backup.
If this guy has anything left (he should) and this is just a cost-cutting move by Seattle.... then we should have him on a plane to C-Town this morning.

We don't appear to have sniffed at any of the Safeties on the market, however, so I don't expect us to look at this one. Hopefully that means that we're going Safety in 1st, and probably again in the 3rd.

if we go into the coming season with Elam and Adams as the starters we are in big trouble.

I don't see that happening. This year's safety class is pretty deep. I can just picture Mangini drooling over a guy like Myron Rolle.

I'm no draft guru, but isn't this draft supposed to be deep at the secondary positions?

I would think that the Browns could find a quality Safety (which we do need) somewhere among their 5 picks in the first 3 rounds ....

Do ya think they would have been better off if they had kept Shaun Jones, if they had found a way.
Do ya think they would have been better of if they had kept Brodney Pool.

Why would they draft somebody if they are only going to keep them around for 4-5 years and let them spend the best part of their career as a free agent with another team, unless

Are fans supposed to get excited about the prospect of drafting a defensive back who if they play well won't stick around.
How about Anthony Henry
How about Chris Crocker
How about Michael Lehan ( stretch I know ) and someone I'm forgetting.

Mike Adams is the best safety on the team, not Elam, but we better watch out, if he plays too well he will get shipped off to another team.

quality safety which we do need ... quality safety which we do need ...

quality safety which we do need ...

It is like running against the Falcons. They just don' t figure it out.

Elam and Adams are, IMO, best used as back-ups. Can we realistically start two rookie safeties?

One option is to trade for a starting caliber vet , we have the ammunition, and draft a safety.

16 Months ago they sucked just like they do now. Only difference is some thought they were better than they were.

Pool was decent player but Concussions have put his career in jeopardy. Jones can't get off the pine in Philly. Just because they are one of the better players on bad teams doesn't make them irreplaceable.

Pool is one more headache away from retiring. I don't believe the "one" concussion story from his agent for a sec. Fact is.. some teams don't care and will play him till they cart him off the field for the last time.

Ha, thanks thats what I was thinking it was refering to, but wasn't sure. they say after the first one it gets easier and easier to get the next one. He was an alright player....when he was on the field. Which wasn't very often, it seemed.

Ytown, the guy you couldnt think of is Leigh Bodden. the one we shoulda kept the most.

would mangini replace his boy Elam with Grant at SS. ( ps thanks for confirming safety type clb419)

also for the record I think I read today that Sean Jones signed with Tampa, so he didn't cut it with the Eagles.

Umm .. that wasn't my post ......

In general, I am against signing 31+ year old players to a rebuilding team .... unless they are an absolute stopgap type.

Rob Sims will be the next to go in Seattle
Posted by Mike Florio on March 16, 2010 9:45 PM ET
The same source who tipped us off to the fact that Seahawks defensive end Darryl Tapp was being traded out of Seattle has given us another tip.

The next one to go is guard Rob Sims.

And this time we're beating Glazer to the punch.

Sims, a restricted free agent, is drawing strong interest from multiple teams. One of the teams is believed to be the Browns, who are now run by former Seattle coach Mike Holmgren.

Like Tapp, Sims is being held out of offseason workouts in anticipation of a deal. Unlike Tapp, Sims has not yet signed his RFA tender, and talks have not commenced with any specific team on a multi-year deal.

Sims has been tendered by the Seahawks at the fourth-round level. A four-year veteran, Sims started 14 games for Seattle in 2009.

So stay tuned. Something could happen soon; something apparently will happen at some point before the draft.

I would like to take this opportunity to second this.

And you know that his value is less than a 4th. If a team was going to give up a 4th, they would sign him to an offer sheet. If the Seahawks wanted more than a 4th, they would have tendered him higher.

Give them one of our 5th's.

I don't really know much about Sims, but didn't Seattle have a pretty leaky offense line last year? (Hasselbeck was sacked 32 times in 14 games, Wallace 9 times in 2 games...ouch.)

I just looked him up, and now I know why he's so popular...Ohio State. Got it.

That would make him less popular to me.

He was solid from what i saw. A better guard than Pashos is tackle IMO....and i liked the Pashos pickup.

Has nothing to do with it. It has everything to do with Sims being a very good run blocker and suitable pass blocker.

He and Pashos would be a massive upgrade to the right side of the line.

I'm gonna assume that he is the first person interested in Sims because of OSU. Not that there's a problem with that.

Oh, so close.

Troy Smith can stay in Baltimore now. We have his better, older version in Seneca Wallace.

That wouldn't be that OSU connection would it?

First off, why not Troy Smith?!?!

- He was a great passer at Ohio State has said he wants to come play for the Browns

- He would fit into the Cribbs mold because he wants to be here, unlike players like corey williams or braylon

- It would save us from using a pick on a qb in a weak qb draft... is anyone really sold on any of the top 5 qbs out there?

- Troy smith is only 25 years old!! Way younger than both wallace and delhomme. What is wrong with bringing in players that your fans liked in college??? Seems like a good idea to me... i also wouldnt mind bringing donte whitner in for a visit. We need a safety and we could also take berry cuz abram is garbage.... LETS BRING ON THE BUCKEYES!!!!

That would be considered tampering as Whitner is under contract with the Buffalo Bills.

Hopefully the Browns are interested in Sims rumor is true. An OL looking like Thomas, Steinbach, Mack, Sims and Pashos would be quite good. That right side would be upgraded immensely from last season.

And if we can do that by giving up one of our 5ths? Hell yeah. Pull it.

If you inserted Troy into this draft....he would be lucky to be in the top 10.

So was all the Qbs at their school too that you just said we are not sold on...Whats your point?

So did Brady Quinn!

I would be speaking out of my ass if I said I know much about Sims' performance with the Seahawks. If he can be had for a 5th rounder, something must be up.

Thoughts from more people who have watched him?

The only problem with bringing in Sims would be that Pashos would definitely be our starting RT, which most agree his slow-feet could be a problem. If we would get Sims on paper at least the offensive line would be our strong suit.

Go Browns!!
