Holmgren said they were looking at doing something "fun"

Mary Kay asked if it was true that something was going to happen on Monday.

To me Carr is a logical fit, he will have more than an honest shot to start, given the lack of production from Quinn.

If I were Carr, I would be looking at Cleveland, Carolina (where he played) and St Louis, where he could be more than a backup.

Not so fast: Pashos leaves D.C. without a deal, visiting Cleveland
Posted by Michael David Smith on March 6, 2010 7:46 PM ET
Contrary to what we told you a few minutes ago, it's not a done deal for free agent offensive lineman Tony Pashos in Washington.

We're now hearing that Pashos left his visit with the Redskins without a deal and will pay a visit to the Cleveland Browns before he signs anywhere.

Pashos is coming off a 2009 season in which he started just one game for the San Francisco 49ers, but he's a 29-year-old with the talent to be a starting tackle in the NFL, and he'll talk to multiple suitors before signing.

Hopefully it's not a David Carr or Seneca Wallace signing.

I don't think I could stomach watching our QB play if that happened.

I'd be perfectly happy signing either guy- as long as they don't plan on starting them.

If Holmgren is getting all "giddy" over David Carr.. I'm going to vomit and disregard Brown's news until draft day.

Actually I think that David Carr might be a pretty good option.

He's one of those highly rated high draft picks who doesn't pan out ..... but who stays in the league for quite a while learning .....

He was beaten mercilessly during his initial years in the league .... but then went to the Panthers and Giants. He's had a chance to sit, reflect, and absorb.

He just might be a guy worth taking a chance on.

I just don't think that either he or Wallace qualify as "something fun".

Didn't seem to fit into another thread too cleanly. Sure there will be other visits schedule.

Cleveland Browns schedule visit with New Orleans LB Scott Fujita
By Tony Grossi
March 05, 2010, 12:30PM
CLEVELAND -- The Browns have a visit lined up with New Orleans Saints linebacker Scott Fujita, an unrestricted free agent who could be in big demand.

A league source told The Plain Dealer that Fujita will visit the Browns Saturday. It will be Fujita's first visit. It will tell us about the Browns' new management team's ability to close a deal, because Fujita is expected to be highly sought-after.

Fujita, 6-5 and 250 pounds, was a mainstay on the Saints defense that rode quarterback Drew Brees to an unexpected Super Bowl championship in 2009.

Fujita, 30, orginally was a fifth-round draft choice of Kansas City in 2002. He signed with Dallas in 2005, and then followed coach Sean Payton to New Orleans in 2006.

He played strongside outside linebacker in New Orleans' 4-3 scheme. In the Browns' 3-4, Fujita may be moved inside. He's a smart player with eight years' experience and made the calls on the field for the Saints' defense.

Hmmmmm this is Saturday Night and no announcement.....he must of left town without a deal....

The only thing I'm worried about is Carr may be considered "damaged goods". I firmly beleive a QB can only take so many hits before affecting his mentality.

Is anyone else getting anxious for the Browns to make a move? I firmly support building through the draft but think a guy like Kevin Walter or Dunta Robinson would have really helped this team.

While i wouldn't be excited if we signed either guy to start, I still think it's amusing that most of you guys don't say the exact same thing about Quinn...

Seneca has a 83QB passer rating, Quinn hasn't even managed a 5.5yds/pass avg in over 350 NFL pass attempts

I think Seneca sucks...but I'd rather have him starting than Quinn. I'm happy MH was as disgusted from Quinn's play as I was....Quinn will be traded, I think the writing is on the wall..and it's the best for this franchise to move on without him and DA

"Signs look good" for Carr deal in San Francisco
Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on March 6, 2010 10:11 PM ET
The improbable David Carr sweepstakes may begin and end with the 49ers.

Mike Garafolo of the Newark Star-Ledger reports that Carr's agent is talking contract with San Francisco Saturday evening. According to someone briefed with the progress of negotiations, "signs look good" for Carr to complete a deal.

Carr, who also has received some interest from the Cardinals and Browns, left the 49ers facility without speaking to reporters as promised Saturday, possibly because he didn't want to answer questions about Patrick Willis' welcome-to-town tweets.

The two men may be able to hash things out in more than 140-character bursts soon enough.

I agree with everything you said YTown. Somewhere on this board, I recall someone posting that Mort twitted (or whatever the right word is) that the Browns were very aggressive. I know I'm going WAY out on a limb here but am guessing one of three things (a) going after a big RFA (b) big trade or (c) we've already signed a couple players and they're going to announce them altogether.

Or maybe we're offering Willie Colon and Ryan Clark contracts just to mess with Pittsburgh.

I don't know about anyone else but my response to this is ??????????????

Let me put it to ya like this, if we are going to scrape the bottom of the league for a starting QB what do we have to lose (except draft picks and money) by starting Quinn for an entire season with a little more talent around him to see if he can develop into a serviceable QB?

Quote:

Seneca has a 83QB passer rating, Quinn hasn't even managed a 5.5yds/pass avg in over 350 NFL pass attempts

I would venture a guess it could have something to do with Seneca has never played for the Browns!

Quote:

Oh you and MH have had a meeting of the minds or you can read his.
Anything that you think you know that MH is thinking right now could be a smoke screen at this point and you could be buying it hook line and sinker.

Thanks guys......I seriously hope we can land him....I got a feeling that we might be pulling a suprise on Monday....McNabb just might be a Brown! I dont think Holmgren would be that excited over David Carr....it has to be a pretty meaningful signing in my opinon.

Also I will ask it again what are your thoughts on Pac-Man.....is he worth the risk....I would give him a one yr deal loaded with incentives, and see if he can produce. the kid can ball if he keeps himself out of trouble.....

Tubby, there is an elitist gang on here that think they're opinions are of higher intellect than others. Don't take it to heart! We all love the Brown's but there are some that just aren't so keen on other humans feelings.

yeah I have noticed, haha

We are all Browns fans or we wouldnt waste our time on these boards the way we do. I know I enjoy talking football, and it gets a lil frusterating when no one answers your post........but anyway back to the topic at hand.....I want us to start getting busy with either trades or FA pickups....this team has lots of holes and most of the "elite" FA's are now gone....wonder if we will make a run at Ryan Clark.

I don't want Pac Man "Adam" Jones at all. He's proven he can't stay out of trouble. And he's also proven he's not that good of a football player. And that was before he sat out a year and a half. He had one really good trait and that was kick/punt returns, and I'd say we already have that position filled.

yeah I have to agree....the kid is a flat out thug!

But with the shape of our DB's we need to start somewhere....would of liked to of got cromartie (sp?), or Rolle to help out....both are gone....Ryan Clark is still out there right?

Yea I'm a little disappointed we have done nothing in FA at this point but we still have time to make some moves.

I don't buy into the idea that the only way to go is building through the draft. Once you draft someone it takes at least a couple of years to reach they're potential and a couple of years later they are eligible to be a free agent.

In my opinion you have to have a mix of both to stay on top and be really good at both with your selections. So far in this FA period I'm not impressed!

IIRC, Fujita was scheduled to visit LAST NIGHT. Maybe a bit too late in the day to make any announcement. Also there was talk of another mysterious visitor.Maybe that was Pashos??

Back in the day the army got the Indians drunk and then had them sign a treaty. That might be the plan with Fujita and the other "visitor". They are all sleeping one off.

In the Savage years we would have signed 3 or 4 new players by now.

IMO, getting into bidding wars for FAs is not the way to go. True , there is no guarantee with a draftee, but there is no guarantee with a FA either. RE: Baxter and LCB.

The perfect example is the Redskins: They are in the mess they are in now b/c of trading away their draft picks and overpaying a few high priced free agents.

The " Miss Cleo" inside me believes that we will get some new players next week via trading draft picks.

PS, if one of those players comes from the Redskins it's going to get awfully "moist" somewhere in Texas.

Yeah and I agree that he is a headcase....but if we put stipulations, and loaded his contract with incentives he just might keep his nose clean.....leauge minimum loaded with esculators (so many tackles, so many picks, so many starts, NO TROUBLE WITH THE LAW, bed before nine haha) that kind of contract might work....one year deal....if it dont work out this is the year where you can take a lil bit of a gamble as cutting him wouldnt hurt in the long run!

The crazy thing is, didn't we have a chance at this guy when he was released from the the Jags. Or did the niners pick him up on waivers before we had the chance?? I can't remember how all that went down, other than i was disgusted at the time that we had a chance to upgrade the tackle and we did not get the guy. Anybody else remember how he ended up a niner?

I have read Pashos was a good run blocker, but had trouble with speed guys on the outside. Isn't that what we've had here for years?

We need to draft a good RT early in the draft. These old retreads are not working.
