The Fujita deal was for 3 years, $14 million. 2 solid pick ups without going overboard. Nice! Fujita gets three-year, $14 million deal Posted by Mike Florio on March 7, 2010 8:40 PM ET The Browns made a big splash in free agency without spending big cash. Tony Grossi of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports that linebacker Scott Fujita's deal is worth $14 million over three years. It's hardly a big-money deal -- and it makes us wonder why the Saints didn't cough up the same package in order to keep Fujita from leaving. Source

thanks cfrs15. I don't recall ever watching Tony play so I dont have an opinion on him like I did Fujita, but those arent exactly glowing endorsment comments.
Eh, I take fan endorsements with a grain of salt, both good and bad.

I like both signings. Not too much money, and both players are solid.
It takes some pressure off of the draft.
I still would not mind seeing a safety and a corner pick-up.
Fot those who want DelHomme, you have got to be kidding.
Welcome back, Joe, we missed you!

Hah, nice.
So we have the obvious speculation about a Kolb and McNabb trade, any dark horse candidates out there that haven't been discussed?
Drew Stanton from Detroit (though he couldn't win a starting job on an 0-16 lions team).

Speaking of QB's,,,
What about Shaun Hill?
I know so very little about him but I did a little Vid watching a moment ago...
not the worst QB I've seen.. certainly not the best... Just wondering what the thoughts on him are.

Not for nothing, but ESPN has a mini headline saying that the rumor is that DA may be heading for the Cardinals... http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/indexIt's the insider which I don't pay for....

It would be great if we could get a box of twinkies for DA What surprises me is that the browns were speculated to have interest in Carr, and then could not convince him to come for a visit?? Makes me wonder if something else is brewing and we backed off. The next couple of days should be interesting.

I saw Shaun Hill play an excellent game against the vikes this year. I remember thinking, wow, they just found there QB. And then the next thing i see is that he has been benched...... Maybe the defenses figured his tendencies out and he did not have the skills to adjust. Or if might have had more to do with Gore getting injured. Seems like he might be the odd man out with the niners, probably not an endorsement of any kind.

Interesting signings... Pashos has been on the Browns radar for several years...and I'd say another stop gap...St.Turnstile is out..but the Browns still need to draft a OT..and there are several in the draft. Fujita..thats also interesting..because Bowens was a decent ILB ,Barton is weaksauce...but consider the age factor..Browsn would do well to draft a ILB..sorry Viekune..

My guess is they're going to send us Larry Fitzgerald AND their 1st round pick this year for DA. *Edit* And I'm willing to be that if that did happen, Django would still find something wrong with it.

i doubt you are an elder. your spelling and grammar give you away. i am not being the grammar/spelling police, but ...
Why would we take on Leinert when our biggest asset is a stud LT ? We don't have a stud RT ... not even an above average RT. We would be starting over from that perspective.
I could see DA doing well in Ariz. He needs weapons around him. He also needs a change of scenery.

Lurking on Arizona message boards, the fans want DA. And lurking on Eagles message boards they do not want Mcnabb anymore. Talk about goofy fans.

Well, they are Arizona Cardinals fans. There reasoning is that with good receivers in a wide open system he would be good. He may have better receivers but he still has to be accurate. Interesting also, they keep mentioning that they heard he is not very popular in the locker room. I wonder where they heard that from.

I type fast and very rarely re-read or spell check or take time to. The reason is simple....guys like you have the ability only to find THOSE flaws...in the end they expose huge flaws with themselves and you find the ones who know football and those who.....well you get my drift. By the way....me and candy are having fun. Opossing view points are fun even if you do have to add fuel to a fire to make it burn hotter. Lighten up sparky....no wonder so many of us old board guys stay away from here now days.

point taken! just get tired of reading boards and comments (esp on cleveland.com) and seeing 10 year olds trying to act like adults. your/you're is my biggest pet peeve so it caught my eye and added fuel to my own fire! lol.
I think DA would be a good fit in Arizona. Lots of receivers to hit and a up-and-coming run game. Their coach is an offensive guy to boot. Release him today!

Even with wide open receivers the dude misses throws. Seriously, have they not seen him play? Maybe they are doing what some here have done and only count his good year when looking at his history?
Whatever. They can have him...it's just sad that they actually WANT him. Seriously crazy, in fact. If they can fix his timing issues and cut his feet in half so he doesn't trip over them he might be okay.

he's still better than Matt Leinart.
AZ fans are definitely hurting this week....
Warner - retired Dansby - left in FA Boldin - traded Rolle - traded
They have been hit hard, so if they are seeing DA as the best of the bottom of the barrel, then you cannot blame them much. In fact, they might be right (with guys like Shaun Hill, Delhomme, Carr, and such as the 'other' QBs out there)

Very happy with the two signings so far; Pashos was someone I wanted us to sign prior to the FA period opening, Fujita should come in and be a big improvement to our LB corps. Neither precludes us from drafting at their positions, but we don't have to be looking early if we don't want to. (Calloway from Iowa is who I would like us to get for the RT position in the middle rounds.)
Back to the main topic of this thread; has anyone heard anything about us bringing in Dwan Edwards? DL out of Balt, he is unrestricted, he is obviously familiar with the 34 defense, 28 years old, did have back surgery a few years ago so that is a concern, but he would be another upgrade in our DLine, valuable depth but most likely a starter.
I would like to see us get at least one or two more 'starter-quality' guys in FA without giving up draft picks.
Statistics are like a bikini; what they show is interesting, but what they hide is vital. Drive for show (1st round), Putt for dough (rest of draft).

I get kidded a lot whenever I say " it's possible" about anything.. well,, let the kidding begin..
For a couple of days now (really since the Cribbs presser), I've had this sneaking impression there was more to the whole DA thing.
Could this be it?

Maybe the Cards remember that DA had a decent day against them in '07 ... 21/41, 304 yds, 2 TDs, 2 Ints (one of the ints was a pick-6). That was the game the Browns should have won except for the non-called forceout on Winslow's TD catch at the end.

They are looking for a backup I think.
Whiz has said Leinart will be the starter this year.
At-least that's what I gather from looking at some of their boards.

Thought this was interesting. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.comTroy Smith wants to be a Brown Posted by Michael David Smith on March 8, 2010 10:50 AM ET The Cleveland Browns are considering a number of options at quarterback this off-season. Troy Smith hopes one of those options is him. Smith, a restricted free agent who was tendered at the original round level by the Ravens, would love it if the Browns would sign him to an offer sheet or work out a trade with the Ravens that would put him in Cleveland. "He would crawl from Baltimore right now to be able to play in Cleveland," Smith's agent Ralph Cindrich told the Canton Repository. "That's clearly where his heart is." Smith was born in Cleveland and won the Heisman Trophy at Ohio State. Cindrich says Smith wants to go home, and that he thinks the Ravens and Browns might be discussing a deal. "Cleveland has been on the up and up on this thing," Cindrich said. "I did hear from a source there may have been discussions between the Ravens and Browns. . . . It would be the ideal situation to see if a trade could be worked out."

PFT says Edwards has ended visits w/ Denver and Seattle w/out a deal. No idea about us being interested. I think he'd be a fine pickup for the right money. I think that back issue definitely makes him risky though . . .
OK, Holmgren, is there going to be a "fun" announcement today, or what . . .?

LOL,, Mary Kay asked him about something happening by Monday and Holmgren quipped that maybe something would happen.,. I wouldn't count on anything happening. It sounded like more of an Off the Cuff kinda remark..
But we'll see I guess.

I also think there's a lot more to the DA situation, and QB situation as a whole, than is on the surface. It seems like Holmgren wants to switch things up, but more and more the QBs are starting to sign elsewhere. Carr with the 49ers and Pennington resigned. Compared to what's out, I wonder if he thinks we're better off just going ahead with what we have for the next year or so. He could also be thinking about drafting a QB. If we had to keep one, I'd still keep DA (with a restrcutured contract of course) over Quinn. Teams may trade for Quinn and we could get something out of it. Nobody is trading for DA's large contract. If he went to the Cards, he'd give Leinart a run for his money. He would do well in Zona imo with their receivers and system.

Benjamin Watson is coming in for a visit: Browns are still chasing free agents Posted by Mike Florio on March 8, 2010 1:03 PM ET With the signing of tackle Tony Pashos and linebacker Scott Fujita, the Browns hardly are finished with free agency. Next up? Tight end Benjamin Watson. Per a league source, Watson has a visit scheduled with the Browns on Wednesday. Watson, as we reported Friday, is meeting Monday with the Seahawks. Watson has a connection to the Browns -- head coach Eric Mangini was an assistant in New England during a portion of Watson's tenure with the Patriots. Link

Here's a nice story about our new LB
Mon Mar 08, 2010 9:14 am EST Scott Fujita knows the right way to leave a city
By MJD
It was heartwarming when the long-downtrodden Saints won the Super Bowl. It didn't get any less heartwarming when Drew Brees(notes) made the media rounds in the weeks after the game, establishing himself as the sweetest and most humble man in America.
Apparently, everyone on the entire team was an absolute ray of sunshine.
Scott Fujita(notes), a somewhat unheralded linebacker on that Super Bowl team, recently signed as a free agent with the Cleveland Browns. Before leaving town, though, Fujita did one more thing for the people of New Orleans: He gave half of his Super Bowl check to charity, half of that going to relief efforts in Haiti, and the other half going to coastal restoration in New Orleans. From nola.com:
"The people of this city and region have been so good to me and my family that we just felt strongly about doing something to protect the city we have come to love so much, " Fujita said. "And helping on the coastal issue has been on the back of my mind since I first got here."
Take note, other free agents. That's how you leave a city. So far, the bar has been set at "hold a tearful press conference" or "thank the fans in a full-page newspaper ad" for a classy exit. Scott Fujita just raised it.
Anyway, he's Cleveland's now, and if he'd like to continue his streak of doing charitable things for cities in which he plays, I'm sure he'll find an option or two in Cleveland.
Gracias, The Huddle.

Soooo it's monday afternoon and still no "fun" announcement
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."
