Tony Pashos reaches agreement with Cleveland, after visiting Redskins

If there was any confusion Saturday night about whether tackle Tony Pashos was Washington-bound, there shouldn't be now. Pashos is signing with the Cleveland Browns, according to ESPN.com.

Pashos, a free agent from San Francisco, was in Ashburn on Friday and had dinner with Coach Mike Shanahan and offensive line coach Chris Foerster that night at Morton's Steakhouse. But the two sides couldn't hammer out a deal Saturday. Pashos's agent, in fact, characterized the talks as "nowhere near close."

"He left the building," agent Rick Smith said Saturday night. "He's headed to Cleveland right now."

According to the ESPN.com report, Pashos's contract with the Browns is a three-year deal for $10.3 million. Pashos might've seemed like a natural fit with the Redskins because of Foerster, his position coach in Baltimore and San Francisco.

Though the Redskins' have signed Artis Hicks, a versatile lineman from Minnesota, they still need to address their hole at left tackle. Pashos was brought in to discuss the right tackle slot, so it seems they might be looking for an upgrade there, as well.

Isn't our 1st signing worthy of its own thread, though?

I think it is. JMHO of course.

This would seem that we are still going to be the power run game, which I am absolutely fine with.

The WCO doesn't need dominating pass blockers for it to be successful, so I'm glad to see them get some O-linemen that can run block.

I guess this is what Holmgren meant when he said something "fun" was about to happen.

EHHHH I dont know, while this is a solid signing it isnt exactly ground breaking. I donmt think this would really qualify as " fun".

Lets keep the dream alive, I think " fun" would be pulling off a trade for Peyton Manning

I think something bigger than this is coming. Soon.

I don't see this as a sign of the power game. I see it as us needing a right tackle.

Anyone know what his injuries were lately? Looks solid there for a few years
and I believe he missed time in SF last year

The only thing I remember about Pashos when he came out was he looked like he wore lead shoes when he played.

He made Paul Zukaskis look pretty nimble.

But, footwork can improve with experience, so he is still around and a player we deemed we wanted.

No way St. Clair would start over Pashos. Pashos is a much better run blocker and a better pass blocker.

Not to say that Pashos is all-world, just that he is an actual NFL Caliber RT.

He's always looked that way to me to Peen. I don't mind him at RG (and think he could be very good there), but I hope he isn't our "answer" to the RT spot........however St. Crap was making me miss Knecktie for goodness sakes so he is an upgrade compared to the Saint.

I think he's the short term answer, and I'm okay with that. You can't have a star at every position.

As I said, I'd prefer we get a better right tackle and play him at guard, but I don't think it will happen. We do still need another starting lineman though.

A buddy in Buffalo says they're trying to ship Donte Whitner. Maybe we go after him?

I just can't get excited about this idea.

Something tells me McNabb would probably feel the same way-- Nearing the end of a career and traded to a team that is light years away from the superbowl. Does McNabb have any say about being traded or where he is traded?

I think a QB is in the works as well. I am hoping for Kolb.

so, right now the OL looks something like this:

LT: Thomas
LG: Steinbach
C: Mack
RG: Womack
RT: Pashos

Backups:
St. Clair
Yates
Kooistra
Capizzi
Murray

Hadnot is listed on the roster, but is a FA. Maybe he will be re-signed for veteran depth?

This signing makes it unnecessary to spend a high draft pick on a tackle. This year.

I just dont see why they would trade him after all the grooming they have dont for him. I think its going to be McNabb....I guess we will just have to sit back and take a wait and see approach....what if it is number 7 tho? haha

I think we are trying to set up where we do not have to go need with any of our high picks............strictly BPA. Imo you are looking at a trade up, a trade down, or the BPA...........which if you are like me and think Berry is long gone, probably means Dez Bryant.

If the Iggles part with McNabb there will be rioting in Philly.
If the Iggles part with Kolb there will be rioting in Philly.

But remember Philly is the same place they booed and pelted Santa Claus with snowballs.

It all depends on if they feel they can go on a championship run this year.
If yes, they will keep McNabb.
If not, they may trade McNabb.

Finally! Welcome aboard the best afloat, guys! I like us strong up the middle first. This can't be the "fun" Mikey mentioned, I hope. We get Favre or Manning next year, or Brees adopts a new "cause" and suits up with us. That WOULD be fun. But maybe we are bundling extra picks and moving up. Hope it's Christmas and not April Fool's Day. I will just go back to holding me breath . . . .

Sounds like Fujita is inked as well

Cleveland Browns sign linebacker Scott Fujita, who helped New Orleans Saints win the Super Bowl
By Tony Grossi
March 07, 2010, 4:41PM
NewOrleansSaints.comScott Fujita is expected to play a key role at linebacker in the Cleveland Browns' 3-4 defense. The Cleveland Browns have confirmed the signing of former New Orleans Saints linebacker Scott Fujita.

Fujita, 30, was an unrestricted free agent. He started at outside linebacker the last four seasons, including last season, when the Saints won the Super Bowl. The Saints did not believe he would leave them because of his strong ties to the New Orleans community.

The 6-5, 250-pound Fujita was picked by the Kansas City Chiefs in the fifth round of the 2002 draft out of California. He played three years with the Chiefs and one with the Dallas Cowboys before going to New Orleans.

Fujita could be a candidate to move to the inside in the Browns 3-4 defense. Terms of the contract were not immediately known.

I copied from another board....can't find a link.....maybe some of you sleuths can help me out.
