So does Pashos play right guard? Is Womack a better right tackle than Pashos?
I think the ideal situation would be Pashos at right guard and someone else new at right tackle, with Womack backing up those two and St. Clair cut.

Womack isn't even an NFL caliber backup at RT. Pashos is a decent starter there.
Pashos can play guard, but I think he's gonna be playing tackle.

In no way am I trashing the signings because I just don't know enough about either of the guys. Well, I do know more about Fujita, and I think he can contribute, but Pashos I know very little about.
I just hope that we're getting excited because these guys will actually help us out and not because:
1) We just wanted some news regarding the Browns; and 2) These are guys whose names are at least known, so we overhype how good they are.
I am unfamiliar with this feeling of optimism

They booed the McNabb pick in 99,, remember, they wanted Ricky Williams..
Wonder what they think of that now?

It would seem we have added two quality nfl starting players without having to give up a draft pick.
Seems like a successful day.

And a lot of money.
3 years, $10 mil for Pashos, 3 years, $14 mil for Fujita. I'd say that is pretty good for guys that will be starting for us and who should improve our team.

I realize that this may cause a crap storm in my direction...but I will proceed anyways.
It is great to see the FO addressing upgrading our linebackers by adding Fujita.
Here comes the crapstorm.
For 2010 would there really be any difference in quality between the following starting line-ups.
Roth-Fujita-Jackson- Wimbley vs. Roth-Fujita- Jackson-Trusnik
Sometimes, when our team takes a player, the expectation associated with the draft slot (Wimbley-first round) carries into his playing career (and rightfully so). The bottom line is that so far, Wimbley has not played like a first rounder over the duration of his career.
While we do not have a full season of Trusnik at OLB to compare to Wimbley, I could argue that we would not see a huge drop off with Trusnik full-time, especially with a stronger LB core with the addition of Fujita.
Now while I have semi-bashed Wimbley, he may not be a first round talent, but he would be an upgrade for a couple 3-4 teams. Perhaps a team like KC would be willing to offer a draft pick in exchange for Wimbley. This would give them better OLB 3-4 play and also give us a draft pick to build for the future.
I know that Cleveland fans have associated Wimbley's name with "superstar" status. His name is on jerseys and always associated with our future. But the reality is, we have other players currently on this team who can provide the same production.

The majority of people have been bashing Wimbley as barely average for a couple of years now.

I definitely like Trusnik a lot. I'd even consider giving him a shot at OLB position, but I don't think we should in any way just simply part with Wimbley. Marcus Benard or whatever better be pretty good if we're going to just let go of Kamerion Wimbley.
I don't think he's really ever missed time and he has improved every year, except that people figured him out his rookie year so his run around move became ineffective. He has improved against the run and he has improved in pass protection, people make him out to be horrible at it but really it's just that the defense has him do it more now. He isn't Adalius Thomas, but at least Wimbley is average. Plus Wimbley isn't a bad influence in the locker room and you can count on him not getting in trouble with the law. Why throw away our depth at LB core for a bad draft pick?
I wouldn't take anything less than a early middle 3rd rounder for Kam and I really don't think we'd get that.

Likewise.
Fraley was a popular guy, but Pashos is a better player at this point. I'd be more excited to know that Pashos becomes our guard instead of our right tackle, as his limited range and quickness are going to continue to deteriorate. However, he can play both positions and is an instant upgrade over St. Whif.

What's funny is that people always say we have hard time acquiring FAs yet so far both free agents that have visited were signed and not for gross amounts.
Tony Pashos: Could be a stop-gap RT for 1 year or we could just make him our RG and target another RT as St. Clair needs replaced. If moved to guard other than a RT our line is starting to look pretty good LT: Joe Thomas- Nothing needs to be said LG:Steinbach- Just became a much better fit four for new WCO C: Alex Mack- Hopefully went through most of his growing pains last year RG:Tony Pashos- A great run blocker whose slow foot speed can be masked by making him a guard. Probably won't do much pulling (Stein and Mack will be our Pullers.) RT: Myster Man- Most likely would be addressed in the draft maybe Bruce Campbell or Trent Williams. I would not be surprised to see us trade up into the 2nd round to get a Pass Rusher and a Offensive Lineman.
As for Fujita by all accounts is a great humanitarian and brings leadership to this team. He is a pretty big linebacker and really does look like a great fit at ILB. Leaving our linebackers like this: OLB: Roth- Roth looked better as the year went on. Remember the only reason we got Roth was because the Lions beat us if the Browns would have won Roth would be a Lion right now ILB: Fujita: Should be a great ILB ILB: D'Qwell Jackson for now. I always thought DQ would do better with a big ILB beside him and Fujita fits that bill. Hopefully he stops the non-sense about a new contract OLB: Really need some help: Wimbley is not the answer. We will be better the day Wimbley becomes a backup.
Go Browns!!

What I like even more about the signings are how they're reasonably priced. We got good value I think. We aren't going to be the biggest shoppers. The free agency crop this year is the most limited I've ever seen because of the CBA issue.

What's going to be somewhat exciting is when teams decide to go after the RFAs. I mean Seattle is considering giving Denver the 6th pick in the draft for Brandon Marshall.

I caught a lot of flack for thinking that we could start and win with Roth and Trusnik as our OLB's. I don't really think it's Trusnik who makes Wimbley expendable though...I think Marcus Benard does.
That said, I don't want to trade Kam. The guy was on a tear before he got the flu last year (4 sacks in the first 5 games of the season, then the flu bug hit). I'd really like to see a full season of a rotation of him, Benard and Roth at the OLB positions. Matt Roth is the key player in this rotation with Benard as the wild card.
I really like Benard. I'll admit to being one of those people who only saw his Youtube highlight tapes from college but I really liked the way he not only ran around, but through people.

Bernard is a BEAST!!! I agree with you.. He comes off the edge with tenacity. He and Alex Hall are the reasons why I don't think we need to touch the OLB positions.

Yes, Alex Hall has been the most dominating pre-season player we've had in a long time who then never gets to play in the regular season.

Benard isn't as light in the ass as Hall. Plus Benard was signed by Mangini, not Savage, which tells me something.
Turk, I'm all for "upgrading the OLB position" but I don't think it's as much of a need as it seemed even halfway during the season last year. Matt Roth is a BIG reason for that...Jason Trusnik is a lesser reason but still factors in.

Different regime..same approach.....when was the last time this franchise drafted a RT in the 1st 2 RDs and was a main stay for years? Every year the Browns take a RT off the free agent scrap heap and they get burned. Tony Pashos is a journeyman for a reason.....but if you are a journeyman RT,you are targeted by the Browns. Historically he gets abused by speed rushers. Im sure the homers will tell us what great move this is.

You can't say that about this regime yet.,, this upcoming draft will be thier first for the Browns..
If after the 2010 Draft, they haven't drafted a RT,, then you would be correct.. until then,.,, you aren't.......

I don't hear anyone saying we signed an All-Pro RT. We did improve a weakness - the right side of our OL. Pashos may very well end up at RG. Following is a quote from Tom Heckert in yesterday's PD story: "We like the fact that Tony has started a lot of games in this league, and has been a part of some productive offenses with Baltimore and Jacksonville," Browns general manager Tom Heckert said. "Although he's started at right tackle, he has the versatility to play inside as well, and he will come in and compete at both tackle and guard with us." http://www.cleveland.com/browns/index.ssf/2010/03/cleveland_browns_reach_contrac.htmlSigning Pashos does not preclude drafting an RT, imo.

How about before knocking what they do in the draft, you let them Actually complete the draft... Geesh
And whos to say they are done picking up FA's and trading for guys..,

I agree Cap......however....at this point in the process Pashos was probably the best option. I don't think we could have done any better at addressing a need, and FA is all about needs, and getting the best option.
Now we see what the draft holds. Maybe there is a RT to be had, or maybe not...sure, we can draft one but the draft isn't soley about needs as is FA....you also have to look at who is available and when.
Either this year or next we need a RT....no doubt. Maybe the browns just didn't see a viable option at their projected draft positions....we'll see as the draft unfolds.
Next year, hopefully we will be drafting in the low 20's....from that slot, RTs are generally available...at least the type you, I, and everyone else wants.

because there is more to Brandon Marshall than a probowl WR unfortunately. he could easily be suspended 'again' by the NFL and then you are down a WR. or he could be arrested and lose him that way.
anyways, I don't understand if Seattle would rather give up their #14, then why they wouldn't just do that. If Denver says no, then all they need to do is get somebody behind #14 in the draft to give Marshall his contract. Then, once they get Marshall, they trade Marshall to Seattle for #14. They upgrade their #1 pick for free and Seattle gets Marshall. I doubt Denver matches, but there is some risk there.
