Quote: Different regime..same approach.....when was the last time this franchise drafted a RT in the 1st 2 RDs and was a main stay for years? Every year the Browns take a RT off the free agent scrap heap and they get burned. Tony Pashos is a journeyman for a reason.....but if you are a journeyman RT,you are targeted by the Browns. Historically he gets abused by speed rushers. Im sure the homers will tell us what great move this is.
cap...What do you know about Pashos?
He started 47 games for Illinois All Big Ten, Academic All-America and Academic All-Big Ten
Drafted in the 5th round by the Ravens in 2003... ...started 7 games in his 3rd season (2005) with the Ravens, ...16 starts for Ravens in 2006 ...15 starts for Jags in 2007 ...16 starts for Jags in 2008 ...1 start for 49ers in 2009, broken scapula/IR.
Pashos is a workout warrior and dedicated weight lifter dating back to high school when he earned MVP honors in Rudy's 1997 Powerlifting meet, breaking meet record for deadlift at 660 pounds and total weight at 1,610 pounds.
I remember watching Pashos when he played for the Ravens and he was an absolute stud especially when it came to run blocking. His pass blocking was not bad either. After he left the Ravens, I did not see him play so I can't vouch for his play but it's obvious he started for them for 2 seasons, 2007 and 2008. Before last season (2009) when he broke his scapula, he had a string of 47 starts with the Ravens and Jags.
So, what are the Browns getting in Pashos?...He sure appears to be an upgrade at the very least and could develop into an outstanding RT for the Browns at best. He is not lazy or out of shape and he is smart..so with the proper coaching, he could develop into an anchor on the right side of the Browns Oline for years to come.
Though Pashos has been in the NFL for 7 seasons, he did not start his first two seasons and was injured last season so he has 4 years of playing experience in the NFL, so it's not like we are getting a broken down vet who has seen his best years.
If you want to learn a little more about Pashos...watch this..
I don't see any benefit so far. I had confidence in Fraley, I don't know about Pathos, But it seems like the exact same reasoning as the signings of Ryan Tucker, Ross Verba, Cozy Colman,, , yes N, Dorsey, just a long line including Steinbech, I think Steinbech has shown to be a liability in the divisional games, but in situations he can be a benefit, he just has to be used right.
The linebacker move strikes me as similar to when the Browns brought in the former patriot, or the former Falcon defensive end about 4 years ago.
You can't win a divisioin in March but you can get in position to lose it. Someone had to remind me Trusnik is on this team, I don't like the idea of watching him play, but I'm just one person.
I don't think the philosophy should be to sign free agents from other teams this time of year, UNLESS THEY ARE ARGUABLY SUPERSTARS. Free agents from your own team should be given more benefit of the doubt.
We have seen what the signing of a bunch of free agents this time of year has gotten the Browns over the last 10 years.
They should bring back Hadnut.
Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.
Mac, with all due respect, Pashos pass blocking is below average at best. He'll make us forget about that bum St. Turnstile, but he is roughly the same as Kevin Shaffer as a pass blocker.
His run blocking, though, is fantastic. He is a bulldozing mauler, one of the premier run blockers in the NFL. He has slow feet so getting to the second level is sort of tough, but he wipes out anyone he blocks.
He's a good NFL starter, NFL quality tackle. Nothing more, nothing less.
Since he was a 4-3 OLB most of his career, it's tough to figure out if he will be successful with us.
He did play 3-4 ILB for Parcells in Dallas in 2005, but I do not remember much about his stint there (anyone a Cowboy follower that can chime in?)
His other 4 years were in a 4-3 for KC. So, 8 years in a 4-3 and 1 in a 3-4. He seems like the type of guy who can make the transition to 3-4 ILB pretty seamlessly (used to taking on blocks and good at getting tackles, bigger LB), but you never know until you see them do it.

That said, Fujita is definitely a Mangini-type player. Always getting credit for his community work, every coaching staff he's played for seems to rave about his work ethic/character.
Be interesting to see what he has left in the tank.
I think Pashos would fit best at RG with a new guy at RT. This is a pretty deep draft. Hopefully a guy like Charles Brown from USC falls to us in the 2nd round. That would be ideal.
Maybe the signed Pashos with the thought in mind that if they can get a yound stud RT, Pashos can slide over to guard.. if they don't, then they leave him at RT..
Just thinking out loud

I was reading about Pashos a little, and believe he is definately an upgrade. From what I read, when he went to San Fran, he was reunited with his line coach from Baltimore. It said that he worked on his lateral movement and improved his pass blocking skills. This guy is no bum like St. Clair. And if he is as good as Tucker was, then some around here should be salivating with the love he recieved for average play.
IMO, Pashos is still relatively young, and is a player that has developed better skills. Lineman do that. Not every guy comes into the league a stud. Many lower round picks develop over the years into decent starters. I think the RT spot is fixed for now, which it was in dire need of. If the FO waited for the draft, there is no certainty that a RT prospect will be available. This move sures up the position, and is insurance in case a rookie is not gotten.
I'm not trying to sound like he is the long term answer, but he could be. We have had below average at the RT spot for years now, this guy is considered a decent NFL tackle.
Upgrade....I think so. Also a good value move. He is no bum like St Clair, I would wager on that.
From Peter King The three best decisions teams made in free agency over the weekend:
Quote: 2. Cleveland got a good right tackle, Tony Pashos, for smart money -- $3.4-million a year. The first weekend of free agency is not usually for spending wisely. But this decision was smart because Pashos is a strong, passable pass-blocker who should be a C-plus booked for left tackle Joe Thomas.
and up until heads began to roll in week 13, he was 100% correct.
But I suppose he is a turd for not having the foresight to know we would have a running back run for almost 500 yards in two games and we would win three games in which our qb would compete less then 8 passes.
Crowded elevators smell different to short people...
people also seem to forget he put himself on the line by being the only person saying we'd explode in 2008 and wrote that long article on us. everyone else just said "going to be the same old browns."
