Ben Watson would be an upgrade. I've always like Watson when he was with NE, and would be a solid TE for us. Hopefully, they wouldn't have to pay too much money for him though. I know last year, until the end of the year, the TE position left a lot to be desired.

My first impression would be that Watson, Moore, and Gaines would be our top 3 ...... but that's why we have training camp ... lol

lets not get too excited on Watson, anyone who's job it is to catch passes in this league, Cleveland unfortunelty won't be the first choice.

What surprises me is New England kind of seems content to let him walk. They are looking at other TE's and do not seem to be pursuing Watson. If it comes down to playing time- Cleveland should win out over Seattle. If the money is equivical- i think he will sign as a brown. I hope he has a good visit and signs today.

I don't know, I thought somone wrote he was a RFA so I assumed he was.
If we didn't re-sign/tender him I will be dissapointed. Gaines and Estandia were on the team that finished very well last season. Estandia dropped a few passes but seemed good enough to be on the team because he was tall, could run TE routes and get open, and he was a decent blocker. He was kind of young too. I just wish we could see more of them, so I hope we at least bring Gaines into camp.

http://www.cleveland.com/browns/index.ssf/2010/03/source_pro_bowl_quarterback_ja.html Source: Pro Bowl quarterback Jake Delhomme will visit Cleveland Browns Thursday By Mary Kay Cabot, The Plain Dealer March 10, 2010, 3:41PM
Paul Battaglia / Associated PressFormer Carolina quarterback Jake Delhomme will visit the Browns on Thursday.
CLEVELAND -- Former Carolina Panthers Pro Bowl quarterback Jake Delhomme will visit the Browns on Thursday, a league source told The Plain Dealer today.
Delhomme, who was cut by the Panthers last week, went 58-40 for them as a starter in seven seasons, including taking them to the Super Bowl after the 2003 season. The Panthers lost on a last-second field goal to the Patriots.
In Cleveland, Delhomme would most likely come in to challenge for the starting job. ESPN is reporting today that the Browns are shopping Brady Quinn, although a league source told The Plain Dealer that the Browns have not actively tried to trade anyone.
Delhomme, 35, was released with $12.5 million in guaranteed money still owed to him to make room for starter Matt Moore.
A fan and team favorite, Delhomme fell out of favor with the club this year when he threw a career-high 18 interceptions.
Panthers coach John Fox got emotional in the press conference last week and said, "He's done some great things for this team. Two (NFC) championship games, a Super Bowl, all those comeback victories. I'm not sure I've had any more respect for an NFL football player than Jake Delhomme.''

I called it... Wallace, Delhomme, and Draftee will be QB's next year. Wallace starting and a bag of balls for Quinn. Lets move on people...

Ugh, I dunno about this one. Delhomme has a very weak arm and he's not that accurate. He is not a favorite of the Panther fans that I know.

He's a very experienced QB that has had tons of success in the NFL. His experience alone would help groom any young QB. This is how things are done.

What if we sign Delhomme and trade Quinn?
The only way I would even consider accepting Jake Delhomme as a Cleveland Brown is as a 3rd string QB. That's it.

People were saying Seneca Wallace would be Brady Quinn's Trent Dilfer.
Is it possible Jake Delhomme will be Seneca Wallace's Trent Dilfer?
Jake freaking Delhomme? Is Brady Quinn really that bad.

No.
All this is, is Mike Holmgren wants HIS guy at QB. We WILL draft a QB this year, to be groomed for our QB of the future. It will be Bradford if he's there.
We are trying to sign a veteran presence for whoever we draft. Say what you want about Delhomme's ability, but he's a vet. who has been in the league for 11 years.
He knows what it's like to be a back-up, and he knows what it's like to be a starter, and most importantly, a winner.
Jake Delhomme is obviously not our plans for the QB position in he future. But if we sign him, he WILL be our Opening Day starter this year, Seneca Wallace will be #2, and Bradford (or other draft QB) will be our #3, then Bradford (or whoever) will take over next year.
If we sign Delhomme, I'll be VERY surprised if it's for more than 1 year.
So guys, step away from the cliff.... No need to jump, yet.

Is it really okay for Delhomme to even start one year? Didn't he prove last year that he is washed up? If Delhomme is being brought in to be a 1-year starter then why not just start Seneca Wallace who at least has a little upside?

Does 1 year prove a player is washed up? (no need to answer that, its rhetorical)
He may be brought in as veteran backup. Obviously Quinn and Ratliff don't have a lot of experience, and maybe Holmgren wants a vet over 2 guys with a total of 14 games worth of experience.
Here's hoping that if Delhomme comes in, a change in venue brings him back to his glory days, as average as they were.

that's Seneca's job.
Delhomme doesn't know Holmgren's offense and his skills are diminished.

Supposedly visiting tomorrow now. Quote:
Ben Watson, a free-agent tight end who played for the Patriots the last six seasons, will also visit on Thursday.

Browns bring in Fargas for a visit Posted by Mike Florio on March 10, 2010 7:10 PM ET With the Browns not yet showing interest in veteran running backs like LaDainian Tomlinson, Thomas Jones, and Brian Westbrook, they've found another guy who'll they'll be bringing to town. Jodi Bacon of KHTK in Sacramento reports that former Raiders running back Justin Fargas is in Cleveland, visiting the Browns. Fargas, a third-round pick in the 2003 draft, recently was cut after supposedly failing a physical. He visited the Chiefs, who have since signed Jones. Link

I'd rather take a one-year chance on Delhomme knowing that at best he's a one-year guy while we draft someone else for the future, as opposed to sitting back and hoping that Quinn becomes something he isn't.
At least we know Delhomme had "it" at one point. Quinn...........never did.
People profess their absolute trust in Holmgren. If he sees something in Delhomme and Wallace that he didn't see in Quinn, ok, I'm on board.
