Again,, we got him towards the end of his career.. lots of players stay too long..

Some might say that his performance here was at least somewhat related to those playing around him.

But he wasn't always awful (not that I agree with that statement at all really) he was once good enough for a team that won several superbowls.. I think he either 2 or 3 rings from NE..

So I'd venture a guess that most folks that REALLY know, would tell you you are wrong in your assesment of Andruzzi in an overall sense..

what's the point of disliking a player? you can be frustrated he's there but to dislike someone for their play? for the most part, they're giving their all. it's not their fault they were in place if there was superior talent available. that falls on the FO. sounds petty and childish to me.

The point of disliking him is that he sucked and held the team back. He was awful. As far as the FO's fault, anybody would have been better than him, even Issac Sowells. Perhaps it was RAC's fault I dont know, either way he was terrible and I disliked him because he almost singlehandedly ruined any offense wwe could have had while he was a brown.

For someone who hates people who sucked because they held the team back, your screen name is awful ironic.

Stems back from the old boards when the place was beside itself because Andra wasn't in the pro bowl when he led the league in tackles with 199 (unofficially).

Ugh....too late in my opinion. We should have let him walk for a 1st and 3rd pick after the 2007 season (if indeed the Cowboys were going to pull the trigger signing him). Regardless, ever since that Bengals game he's been mush. And you can make a pretty good argument that he was mush before that too.

IMO, I don't think he should be allowed to call himself a pro bowl QB. Yes, he played in the pro bowl but it was only because 2-3 QB's backed out. The real term should be "the Browns announced they released the one-time Pro Bowl injury-replacement quarterback."

Just clicking...

I wish him well wherever he ends up. One of my favorite DA memories was that Monday Night beatdown of the Giants in 2008. It was definitely a bright spot in a pretty crummy season.

Good luck DA (unless you're playing against the Browns, of course).

ESPN's Adam Schefter believes the Cardinals will "make a bid for and eventually land" free agent Derek Anderson.

Beat writer Kent Somers has also wrote of the Cardinal's interest in Anderson, who would conceivably push Matt Leinart for the starting job in training camp. Leinart will look fantastic compared to the erratic Anderson, so it would do wonders for his confidence.

Cardinals are interested in him?

They'll probably have him start.

I can't help but

About that!

The Cardinals really are rolling the dice with him. Funny thing is we all already know how the story ends!

I'm much happier that the era of DA vs. this years challenger QB controversy is over than I am that DA is gone. This team needed that to end.

I wish him well.

Anderson has had one VG season and some memorable moments.

Wallace has done exactly what?

I'll believe it when I see it that the DA for Wallace trade off is an improvement.

Salary dump?.... well OK. It was inevitable. Who said we should have traded DA? That is 20/20 hindsight. Branch Rickey would have pulled the trigger , but Branch Rickey is dead

and Peen's take on Wallace being the starter is interesting........

LOTS of us wanted him traded ASAP after that 2007 season. LOTS of us saw that he was fool's gold and that his value would never be higher than at that time.

I have mixed feelings about this.

I am we finally released him so there will be no more heart stoppages when he drops back and I also no longer have to read a bunch of posts about how awesome DA's arm is and all that.

On the other hand, I only had one day of getting to call him Anderception and that is such a good nickname... Maybe he'll sign with someone we play against and I can use the word for at least one day.

unfortunately, Anderson seemed like the kind of guy who could ride the wave when things went well .... but when the tide turned, he wiped out. He seemed like a guy who would be mentally strong ..... but didn't turn out to be.

He is still, arguably, the best and most productive QB we've had in a decade and a half .....

including me,but :
A. that was not really a clear call back then and
B: DA's career is not over.

Would you bet the farm that he never throws 25 TDs again?

Now that he gone, when do we start the BQ vs SW threads?

I'll second that, GM. Even though he had me pulling my hair out at times, I always thought he was a good guy, and when he got hot as a QB, he was frigging insane. But when he was cold, he was COLD.

Good luck DA!

A lot of hate for the guy, geez. QB wins again pitt LOL. Quinn didn't do poop against pitt, they imploded.

Good luck DA, unless you play the Browns.

Because he was FREAKING terrible. A dumb dufus who never learned to read a defense or throw a short route. Never got better and never seemed to care to get better. Thank goodness he is gone. I would have KINDLY driven him out of town myself 2 years ago.

If you hated terrible players 1/2 the Browns squad would get the same venom. I know he isn't any good, but damn.

I won't hijack the thread anymore, I just don't understand the amount of venom DA gets. He wasn't a good qb, but he was a hard worker and a good team mate. Hank got a lot of props for being a good guy, and DA got cheered when his knee got blown out. If you don't like that he started in front of BQ then admit it, otherwise just let go of the hate.

Thanks DA for being part of a fun season, a season that was actually fun to watch.

DA was one of my favorite players, and will still be one of my favorite players as he goes to a different team (unless they play the browns or packers). 07 was one of the most exciting seasons for me, being a young Browns fan. He had some great games, and they were never really out of a game with him in 07. I sometimes wonder if things would have been different without the concussion or the dropped balls in 08. I don't think he gets benched if Edwards doesn't drop a TD pass that would have put us at 4-4. That's all hindsight though, I know he gets a lot of hate, but he was a good dude. He signed my hat back in the day when they visited Minneapolis and shook my hand. I understand why they had to release him though, it's better for the long run for both sides. Best of luck to DA and best of luck to the Browns QB in 10, whether it's Quinn or Wallace. GO BROWNIES!

Derek Anderson's contract was terminated on Tuesday.

His parting message to Browns fans will ring long after his passing statistics from the past five years fade into obscurity.

"The fans are ruthless and don't deserve a winner," Anderson wrote Tuesday in a terse e-mail when asked for a reaction to being released. "I will never forget getting cheered when I was injured.

"I know at times I wasn't great. I hope and pray I'm playing when my team comes to town and (we) roll them."

Anderson was cut one day after the Browns traded an undisclosed 2011 draft choice to the Seahawks for quarterback Seneca Wallace.

In the weeks leading up to the trade for Wallace, which occurred on the fourth day trades could be made this winter, Browns president Mike Holmgren remained vague on his assessment of Anderson and Brady Quinn.

He would say Quinn hadn't played enough to be judged fairly and say Anderson had passing skills but threw too many interceptions.

Holmgren said he met with Quinn once after moving into team headquarters in early January. He lamented never having hooked up with Anderson, who headed home to Oregon the day after the 2009 season ended. Anderson was the winning quarterback in the final two games of the four-game winning streak at the end of the season. His overall record as a Browns starter was 16-18.

"I never heard from anyone until today," Anderson wrote in his e-mail response. "Nobody ever tried to reach out to me, which is fine."

Anderson was with the Browns for five seasons after being picked up on waivers from the Ravens in 2005. He always had a strong camaraderie with his teammates in the locker room.

Anderson's high point during his time with the Browns was his Pro Bowl season in 2007, when he was 10-5 as a starter while completing 298 of 527 passes for 3,787 yards and 29 touchdowns. He threw 19 interceptions.

The low point occurred on Nov. 30, 2008, when, with 1:16 to play in a 10-6 loss to the Colts, former Browns tackle Kevin Shaffer gave up a sack to Robert Mathis. Anderson suffered a torn knee ligament on the tackle. Fans at Cleveland Browns Stadium cheered as Anderson lay on the ground in obvious pain.

Earlier in the game, with the Browns leading, 6-3, Dwight Freeney beat Joe Thomas, sacked Anderson and forced a fumble. Mathis picked up the ball and returned it 37 yards for a touchdown.

In 2008 and 2009, Anderson and Quinn were up and down as the starting quarterback. The back and forth changes, by Romeo Crennel in 2008 and by Eric Mangini in 2009, did not work out for the Browns or either player.

"I want to thank Derek for everything that he gave to the Cleveland Browns organization over the last five years," Mangini said in a statement released by the Browns, a kind sendoff that was a sharp contrast to what Anderson had to say a couple hours later. "He did everything we asked of him, and it was a pleasure to coach such a competitive person. I want to wish him all the best in the future."

Anderson never came close to matching that magical 2007 season before or after it, but his success in 2007 earned him a three-year, $24 million contract from former general manager Phil Savage.

In part, the huge contract led to his release. Anderson was due $2 million in a roster bonus a week from Friday and his 2007 contract was for $7.45 million. As Anderson was leaving the locker room after the final game of the 2009 season, he predicted his career in Cleveland was finished.

"They're not going to want to pay me that much money," he said.

This was more than a salary dump, however.

Anderson's strength was throwing the ball downfield, and that does not fit the offense the Browns are transitioning to.

Everything now points to the Browns becoming a West Coast offense — a system that emphasizes short passes to receivers in stride to open the running game. Holmgren coached the West Coast in Green Bay and Seattle for 17 years, and his right-hand man in the Browns' front office, Gil Haskell, was the offensive coordinator for Holmgren in Seattle.

During the scouting combine in Indianapolis last month, Holmgren said Haskell has been going over the nuances of the West Coast offense with Browns offensive coordinator Brian Daboll.

Wallace used the West Coast in 47 games and 14 starts with the Seahawks since 2005. Also, Quinn's talent is best suited for throwing short passes. The pecking order between Quinn and Wallace has not been defined.

General Manager Tom Heckert is expected to look for a quarterback schooled in the West Coast offense in the draft next month.

Well in a way he's absolutely right. It's beyond ignorant to boo someone when they get injured. The fans did it to Tim Couch and they did it to Anderson.

It's days like that i'm embarrassed to be a Browns fan.

And anyone who disagrees needs to put their self in his shoes.

He stinks it up on the field, we don't like it.....so therefore we don't deserve a winner? Please. Man up and say you could have played better, thanks for the millions, and the chance to play in the NFL. Nope, true class act, jerk.

We'll see you next year.....and intercept you 4 times the same day.

And NOBODY was cheering that he was injured.....they were cheering that he was leaving the field and another QB was coming in. Why? Because it was painful watching him play like crap.....so ya, we were happy to see someone else coming in. Please. Go away da.

I hated DA as a player but he always seemed like a decent person. I can't blame him for the way he feels after being cheered for being injured. The people who did that should be ashamed of themselves.
