+1

He stinks it up on the field, we don't like it.....so therefore we don't deserve a winner? Please. Man up and say you could have played better, thanks for the millions, and the chance to play in the NFL. Nope, true class act, jerk.

We'll see you next year.....and intercept you 4 times the same day.

And NOBODY was cheering that he was injured.....they were cheering that he was leaving the field and another QB was coming in. Why? Because it was painful watching him play like crap.....so ya, we were happy to see someone else coming in. Please. Go away da.

Agree 100%!! Guy truly doesn't "get it"

DA just proved why people booed him!!!! and why we wanted him gone....and while a few of our more intoxicated fans cheered when he went down!!!! even tho I think it was more cheers for Quinn as he ran out on the field more than DA being hurt....but either way glad that jackass is gone!

I knew the guy was a bum day one. I watched enough of him in college to see that 2007 was a fluke. Wish like heck we would have dumped him after that season. DA owes Winslow and Edwards big credit for his multi million dollar contract extention. Their repeated acrobatic catches that season made DA a rich man.
DA go suck somewhere else. I'm glad your gone.

Well in a way he's absolutely right. It's beyond ignorant to boo someone when they get injured. The fans did it to Tim Couch and they did it to Anderson.

It's days like that i'm embarrassed to be a Browns fan.

And anyone who disagrees needs to put their self in his shoes.

I completely agree. that was a very sad day to be a Browns fan. I'm sad those are the memories that DA is taking w/ him.

Derek Anderson says "ruthless" Browns fans "don't deserve a winner"
Posted by Mike Florio on March 9, 2010 10:06 PM ET
Former Browns quarterback Derek Anderson, cut on Tuesday by the team, ripped Cleveland fans via an e-mail sent to Jeff Schudel of the News-Herald.

"The fans are ruthless and don't deserve a winner," Anderson said. "I will never forget getting cheered when I was injured. I know at times I wasn't great. I hope and pray I'm playing when my team comes to town and [we] roll them."

Anderson also said that, after the 2009 season ended, he heard from no one with the organization until learning that he had been cut.

The cheering incident to which Anderson refers occurred in November 2008, when fans reacted happily to the fact that Anderson was on the ground, writhing in pain. As it turned out, he had torn a knee ligament.

The team's quarterback quandary traces to the 2007 season. Rookie Brady Quinn held out in a contract dispute, making Anderson the backup to Charlie Frye in Week One. Frye was benched during the 34-7 loss to the Steelers, and he was traded to Seattle a couple of days later. Anderson took the reins.

It was presumed that Anderson was merely holding the spot until Quinn was ready, which of course meant that Anderson experienced no pressure. Which allowed him to hold the ball a little more loosely and play well. Until the playoffs were on the line and the pressure caused him not to play well.

After the season, the Browns badly misread the situation, re-signing Anderson and making him the starter. Inevitably, he held the ball tighter and looked over his shoulder and ultimately was benched. After Quinn was injured, Anderson returned, only to suffer the knee injury that prompted fans to applaud.

So Phil Savage/Romeo Crennel regime made a huge mess in 2008. Finally, someone is trying to clean it up in a decisive way.

This time around, we can't fault Browns fans for cheering.

==============================================

Ruthless? Try completing a pass to someone on your own team once and a while, and the fans might be less ruthless. The Browns were considering changing the team colors to green with white stripes, after all the balls he put in the turf. Over, under, and behind is how you're supposed to have sex, not how you throw a football.

I think most of the QB's that leave Cleveland are bitter.. I would probably be too..

Dilfer did. still does.
Anderson does.
Couch does.

I mean the Browns suck, and it all points to the QB. To have an entire city pointing the finger at you, and you know it just wasn't you.. it has to be upsetting.

Good luck to you DA. You gave it your all. We had some really exciting games with you at helm. I'm sure you'll play against us in the future and scorch us as we have no secondary. So you sir, will get the last laugh.

Sorry, but with Anderson, it was him. Yes, we played other sub-standard teams that year, so he looked pretty good at times. 2008 and 09 were proof of what we had. We had a below average QB, both on the field and on the bench. They either need to improve or go louse up someone elses fun. The busted up RB didn't help much either, but Anderson was way off target most of the time.

Please. You show Anderson a couple blitz packages he's never seen before, and he'll ditch the ball to keep from getting hit.

It doesn't take a secondary to defend passes thrown into the dirt or wildly overthrown. Plus if our D plays with any kind of fire (see the Steelers game), DA and his size 32 lead skiis... er feet... will get sacked a few times then throw 2 to 4 ints (see MANY of his performances as both a Beaver and a Brown).
I wish DA the man no ill will. I wish DA the football player the worst of luck... in other words to continue to suck as usual.

I beg of you refs, can we allow swearing in this thread for once, SO WE CAN REALLY SHOW ANDERSON HOW RUTHLESS WE CAN BE?

Screw Anderson. Maybe if he acted like he ever gave a damn about the city or the team or could throw the ball with any consistency, he wouldn't have had any problems.

What a tool. And Browns fans will never, ever forget those words.....and when that team you play for DOES come into town, you better NEVER venture out in public. Because somebody who doesn't give a damn will show you the meaning of ruthless.

so funny how a game does this to people.

You all may be mad at Anderson, but let's be honest.. Once Quinn was drafted, he was never really gonna be seen as the face of Cleveland, and he would always have to look over his shoulder.

Savage screwed this up though. He should have traded him.. but I think his "talent evaluator" ego got in the way of doing so.

I don't care who the QB is, if he can't do his job because he's too busy looking over his shoulder, he doesn't deserve to be in the NFL anyway.

I'm surprised & disappointed Anderson said those things, and now I regret sticking up for him earlier on this thread.

If he had any jam, he would have said those things before he was cut.... not wait til he was being kicked out of Cleveland.
At least Tim Couch had enough nuts to defend himself while he was a Brown...

Oh no doubt, that was Savage's biggest mistake. Without a doubt.

I know it's football, but the Browns and all their fans are like family. You go to the game, you all tailgate together. You cheer in the stands together, you high five each other. It's like a big family.

If some dude makes ignorant comments about your family, would be be just a little ticked? That's the way I feel. I understand fans were hard on the guy, but they didn't do it without reason behind it. And by hearing those comments, it's obvious he didn't give a damn about the team, the city, or the fans while he was playing, representing the Orange and Brown.

So screw him. I don't care how mad at the fans you are, as a professional, you don't say stupid things like that in a newspaper. It's child-like. It seems like DA didn't have the mental capacity to play QB in the NFL, and by making comments like that in a newspaper, I think that holds more validity.

That's funny. I was hoping and praying you would be playing when your teams comes to town so we can roll you. And not because I don't like you, but because you are a crappy QB.

Teams we play next year that might need a QB: Panthers and Bills.

Wow I can't believe those comments. I made a post already saying how big a DA fan I am, but damn there's no excuse for that. This isn't a first for this either. He needs to be a bit more professional than that. The fans are just that, fans. Although it's classless what some of them did, that happens unfortunately. It's out of line to trash the entire organization after you get released. If he wanted out of Cleveland, he should have said so after 08. I will continue to support him, but really understand the animosity coming from other fans right now. He's not on the roster anymore though, so it doesn't really matter. Lets just get behind Quinn/Wallace/Ratliff/Whoever else is QB. Lets win some games this year, and have a solid offense.

I hope he's got 5 bucks left so he can buy some mouthwash to rinse out the sour grapes.

I guess in DAs world the only fans that deserve a winner are the ones that not only pay year in and year out to see down right pathetic football, they have to be happy about it too. So what team deserves a winner DA? Let me guess! The one that signs your next check? Goodluck to you. Don't let the screen door hit ya in the behind and for old times sake this ones for you.

Just clicking....

Derek Anderson is -- and always has been -- a gigantic ass. I know some of you can't believe his comments, but I can, he's been bitchy before. I seem to recall him being sour about something a couple years ago and mouthing off. Or, maybe it was just him crying about how pathetic we are.

Hey, DA, haven't you heard about pointing fingers? That's right...there's three pointing back at YOU when you point one at us. Of course, I've got two aimed at ya right now.

Ass.

I supported you Derek, not because you are a good QB either. I supported you because you have some of the most God Given ability and measurables that any QB can have to be successful. But Now I see why you couldn't put it together, because your Brain is the size of a peanut! Makes me wonder if you weren't tanking it to get your butt out of here...naaa you just sucked last year and there is no defending that! You had every opportunity in the world to prove you could be a winner and a QB in this league but could only prove you are a loser and mediocre at best..reaffirming what most say about you. If you ever role us as a team..it will not be with you starting against us..I am happy you are gone and will be even happier when the other QB that started for us last year and sucked is with you! So long Loser, you and the other lamo brought this team down and now it is our turn to return the favor and show you guys that You were the reason we sucked more than it was the town or anyone else on this team. I'll take paper Derek..and bag the eggs seperately Moron!

Anderson never really fit the mold of a QB that would work for this team in today's league. Sure, big arm, but with no touch. You can't win in the NFL with a QB that can't complete more than 50 percent of his passes.

There is probably something to the rumour that he would fit better in Arizona. He was just too expensive to retain for the Browns.

I won't miss him.

It's funny ....

People talked about how the Browns had to do Cribbs' deal .... and how it would help attract free agents because then they would see how "nice" the Browns are ......

Yet we have players after players leaving town complaining about the fans ...... and how the players feel unappreciated ..... and how the fans make iit hard for a player to succeed, given the perpetual "play the backup" mentality ......

Cleveland fans used to be known as pretty damn good fans. Now ..... I wonder how we are perceived by players looking at the Browns as a potential team?

Money, geography, and the team's success always play a part in a player choosing a team ..... but how that player will be treated has to enter into the decision as well. I just have to wonder how much effect we, as fans, have in tipping a free agent's decision one way or the other when this is the type of publicity we get?

I agree Ytown. It's pretty sad when we used to be such great fans. I have to believe it's still there and that most of the negativety is a result of losing.

I understand that DA probably said it out of frustration on being cut too.

With that best of luck DA where ever you land.

not eevry fan booed when DA got hurt.
Not everyone hated BE because he was from Meatchicken.
not every player that leaves hates the city, fans and team.

Too broad of a brush stroke.

note to players: not everyone is required to adore you unconditionally. BR is finding out that just b/c he is a spoiled athtlete that he can be held accountable for his actions and not everyone will always worship the ground you walk on.

Well we are known for cheering when two of our QB's were hurt, Ooops I meant backups came in. *wink nudge*

If Wallace is lucky Quinn will start, because everyone in the NFL knows according to the fans Clevelands best QB is the one on the bench. Instead of being the place people want to play we may end up being the place to stay away, which is sad.

Anderson played in 39 games for the Browns, that's 39 opportunities to win the hearts of the fans and show that you belong in that position. He spent his last 8 opportunities amassing an impressive 42.1 qb rating. He then complained that no one from the organization had contacted him since the end of the season.

So he's had 3 months to figure out what he's going to say when he got cut. It was no secret he was going to get cut, amassing that impressive 42.1 rating doesn't usually garner a roster bonus. No one from the organization contacting him was also a very good clue. So for three months he stewed on what to say and this was the best he could come up with?

DA, you received a kings ransom to play a game that you quite frankly sucked at and your response is to blame the fans for your poor performances. You could have taken us to the playoffs but instead decided to melt down in the 2nd quarter and toss 4 int's to give that game and our chances at a playoff birth away and you have the gall to blame the fans?

DA you're in the adult world, grow up.
